Fourseam Fastball flapped his wings and floated off the mound and back to the dugout with a huge smile on his face. He took off his ballcap and waved it to the crowd as he went, and tried -- not too obviously -- to look into the audience and see if Moon River was still there. Had she even come? He left her tickets at Will Call, along with passes to come to the clubhouse after the game, but he had no way of knowing if she'd gotten them...

He tried not to think of it during the game, but now that it was over, he couldn't think of anything else. Fourseam showered quickly and debated on putting his ballcap back on or not (not, it smelled like sweat) and then pushed through the double doors leading to the friends and family section of the clubhouse.

Would she be there? Why did he even care so much? Not that long ago, he would have skipped entire continents to escape the sight of her.

Moon River most certainly was there. She had spent the day getting ready with Midnight and had arrived as early as she could to take a spot. She'd never been to a game before. Never, if ever, would she tell Fast how long it took for her to find juuust the right look for this little ball game. Like she told Midnight, she couldn't appear too overdone but also couldn't show up as shabby mess. Snazzy sunglasses, a cute baseball cap, a pola-dotted scarf, annnd of course some bangles. It was perfect.

Now, she tried to pay attention to what was going on. Moon River had smirked at the name of the opposing team, she had cheered when Fast and his boys came onto the field, and even sat through that poor mare's awful rendition of the Phonyland anthem. But as the game went on her starry-eyes continued to fall on Fast. He definitely was a handsome stallion. Honestly, she was surprised he hadn't been snatched long before they'd met. What a lovely smile. Goodness! She needed to pay attention to this game! He most certainly was going to quiz her on it after.

The little lady squinted her eyes and tried to her hardest to watch the whole team and not just the really good pitcher in the center of it all.

So did she succeed?

Nope.

When the game was over, Moon River gathered her things and scurried off to the clubhouse. It took her longer than expected and the crowd was dispersing when she arrived. She'd gotten lost! Now she was going to lose him. She'd flown throughout the halls searching for this stupid place to the point that the 'perfect look' was frazzled and undone. Wide-eyed and close to becoming a frantic mess, Moon River scoured the room for Fast. He had to be here. He couldn't have left. Curse her poor sense of direction and not asking for directions.

Fast tried to keep an unaffected look on his face, but he was an earnest phony (a 'country bumpkin', if he remembered Moon's words right) and he couldn't keep the anticipation off his face. He looked around the clubhouse at the few people remaining, tried his best to look like he was nonchalantly just looking about, and smiled and nodded at all he could.

Then he spotted someone with a wide-eyed, awe-struck look on their face. A random phony, one of the people in charge of packing up the broadcast equipment, who looked like he'd just seen a freaking angel. Well, that was Fast's cue. He knew that look. It seemed to appear on anyone who had just looked at Little Miss Starlet herself.

So that meant she must be nearby.

Fast took a moment to take a deep breath. What was this, anyway, he wondered. A date? Was it it a date? Or just an outing between... somethings? An apology for that one awful night?

He pushed the thoughts out of his mind as he saw a short ruffled mane and an askew polka-dotted scarf -- and beautiful Moon River, looking mildly disappointed and lost.

Christ, the girl always looked amazing. He had to give her that.

"Evenin', ma'am," he said as nonchalantly as possible, sidling up behind the mare. Fast couldn't help but smile. It was in his nature to do so. "Fancy seein' you here."

Moon River was exhausted. She fought herself during the whole game not to look at Fast and then zoomed through the stadium as fast as she could looking for a silly clubhouse. To hear his sweet southern voice was, ah, music to her ears.

Her relief to have found him overcame her knowledge of the personal bubble. Suddenly, Fast was in a tight hug. "You!"

Wait...his fresh soapy scent was a little too strong. The mare turned a terrible shade of cherry red when she realized just how close they were. Quickly she released him and took a step back. The songstress adjusted her cap and scarf as her eyes darted from his to the ground and then back again.

"Uh...well...I'll have you know finding this little clubhouse of yours took a lot of work. So I'm expecting dessert with this meal." Ah yes, good save Moon. You don't sound like a priss at all.

Well she certainly deserved something sweet to go with dinner, but maybe the flirt sounded too demanding. She had to save herself. With a lovely smile and a good bat of the eyes, Moon River purred, "Congrats on your win. You played really well. I like how you...throw, I mean, pitch the ball." Smooth, Moon, really smooth.

Fast couldn't help but laugh at that sweet, yet somehow accusatory 'you!' that flew out of Moon River's mouth. He was taken aback by the sudden hug, but certainly couldn't complain. She was so ... soft, and smelled faintly of expensive perfume. Her scarf was clearly silk, and her shades designer, even if she was sporting a ballcap -- a look Fast had to admit he liked.

"Well, lookit you, all gussied up in our gear. Look like a real fan,"
said the stallion with a grin. Fast nodded, his expression one of pride and admiration, regardless of how Moon was -- wait -- was she babbling a bit? Certainly this pillar of self-confidence wasn't feeling shaken being off her home turf, right? Well, they'd put that to rights soon enough. "You look beautiful as y'always do."

"Now, you know I couldn't invite out a lady to watch three hours of a game played in the dirt and not take her out to a meal with dessert after. Not too gentlemanly of me otherwise. I was thinking we might get some ice cream cones, if yer willin'." Wait. Ice cream cones? She was probably expecting creme brulee. Or fondue a la frenchstuff. Fast smoothed his hair back with one hoof and grinned despite himself, trotting out of the clubhouse.

Moon River actually giggled and fixed her cap once more as he brought up her fashion. Good stallion. After all that effort into planning her outfit, a rush of delighted butterflies found a great place to flutter inside her tummy. 'A real fan' and 'Beautiful' must have been the strongest culprits. Oddly enough being called a fan made her happy. Perhaps because she felt included? Heck, Moon had no clue about that. But she knew she was a pretty mare. And yet, to know that he, out of all the other phonies, thought she was beautiful made her feel...special? Augh, what was going on?

Moon smiled with true delight at him. "Thanks, Fast. For a guy who just had a game you look very nice." The periwinkle phony would of used 'handsome' but that felt a little too strong for something that may not actually be a date.

The lass followed him out of the clubhouse still with that wide smile, "Such a gentlephony. Ice cream cones sound perfect after a baseball game."

Fast grinned. 'Very nice' was strong praise indeed from a mare like Moon River, he knew that much. And he couldn't help but look for an extra-long moment at her beaming. Her genuine expression, as opposed to her 'network' or 'stage' smile was so much more becoming.

"Didya follow the game alright?" he asked, his earnest face marked with just the smallest bit of anxiety. "Hope it didn't bore you too badly."

As they walked out of the clubhouse doors and into the fresh summer night air, he took a look down the street. They were on the opposite side of the stadium from where the fans exited, relatively alone. "Say, if you're up to breakin' the rules a little bit, the ice cream parlor isn't too far from here. Know it's not the norm, but what'dya say to a little dessert before dinner? Promise you won't be disappointed at the ice cream. They make real good home-spun stuff."

Moon tilted her head from side to side, "Well....yes actually I did. I will say you'll have to tutor me in it but I think with enough help I'll know everything there is to know about the sport." 'I was staring at you most of the time' probably wasn't the best thing to say. "Didn't bore me at all. I had a great view. Thanks for that ticket and seat." Which was very true.

Her eyes sparkled in the street light (thank you handy dandy lampposts) at the thought of ice cream right now. How could she say no to that, "I'm up for being naughty if you are." With an added wink the comment took on a little more of a seductive tone. "I know for certain I haven't visited this place before, so it'll be a nice treat."

Fast couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle as Moon River assured him of her enjoyment. He tilted his head toward her. "Oh, don't you worry. I'll tutor y'right up. You'll be the most baseball-savvy singin' starlet there is." At this point, he quashed the urge to nudge her playfully, still unsure of how the little mare might take physical horseplay. She had hugged him...

And then -- woof! -- that tone! Fast's heart skipped a beat, looking at those gorgeous gemstone half-lidded eyes and that beautiful voice. Lord, she had a powerful voice. Could melt a man's knees clean off his skeleton and replace the whole joint with jell-o. But she meant dessert. Dessert before dinner. Fast looked away briefly and fought back the urge to smile broadly.

Maybe it was a date, after all.

"Great," he said, nodding in the direction of the ice cream shop. "How about a nice little fly there? I know you're a real talented flier. You chased me into a cloud that one time, remember?"

Oof. Maybe dwelling on their past wasn't the best strategy. But, looking back, all that just seemed funny to Fast now. He'd tried to get away from her then. Now, there was nowhere he'd rather be.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 01, 2013 10:59 pm

"There we go, that's exactly what I want to hear. The crowd will go wild for me when they learn all the knowledge I'm packing on baseball." She laughed and although he wouldn't give her a nudge, she gave him one. "But honestly, it will be nice to be able to know something other than music. I can come to more games and actually have an idea of what you're doing down there." If he'd have her back that is.

Moon River smiled with delight. Fast may have thought she was just being sweet but really she had enjoyed the sight of him shivering because of her. The power a voice had was really something else to behold.

Her ears perked as he mentioned flying and their past. "Ah yes, back when we were spitting nickels at each other. Look how far we've come now." A groomed wing gestured between the two of them as they walked along the sidewalk. "Off to eat icecream together, without the risk of one of us throwing soft-serve at the other."

The early memories she had between the two of them were terrible enough that she always mentally cringed when they resurfaced. How foolish she'd been back then. Goodness, it was hard now to recall why she had been so enraged at Fast. It was like he was the flame that always lit her dynamite. She'd just explode when he was around or be an absolute snob. What luck she had. Without it Fast may never have comforted her at the ball.

"I must say, I'm still surprised we're out with one another after how I treated you. But I'm happy that we are." She caught his eyes but the look lasted a little too long. Fearing she seemed too intimate or maybe even creepy, Moon River gave him a wink. "Come on, handsome, lets see if I can beat you to the icecream parlor." Jittery, but with a big smile on her face, Moon quickly flapped her wings until the ground was far from her hooves.

Fourseam Fastball felt his heart skip a beat, looking for that long moment into Moon River's diamond eyes. His brain, after a pause of silence, had only this to say:

This was definitely a date.

A slow smile crept over his face as the look between them did not break, perhaps a moment too long. He did not say it, but it was plain to see that he felt it -- he was glad, too.

But a moment later, she was smiling and dashing off into the clouds. Fast's competitive nature gave him a shot in the arm, and in a moment he was himself again, shooting after the singer. He caught up relatively quickly -- his name was Fast, after all -- and kept pace with her, shooting her a grin as they flew.

"Well, Moon, mysteries never cease. Y'never told me you're a racing phony!"He called, motioning with his head to turn. The ice cream shop was not very far away, and even shorter with two pegasi dashing off like this. "Never woulda guessed it!"

With a few flaps of his wings, he began to slow, seeing the ice cream parlor fast approaching. He landed almost noiselessly on the sidewalk, looking back up at Moon. "Me, I always felt like I got my speed from always bein' late. Punctuality's a virtue, but I always had to cut a corner or two to get mine."

"I like to keep my stallions on the tip of their hooves, Fast. Besides, nothing wrong with a little mystery." She winked and gracefully leaned into the turn. Without breaking into a sweat, or stumbling in the air, Miss Moon River did a loop de loop around the handsome pegasus. "Wouldn't you agree?"

The blue phony theatrically gasped at Fast, "Oh my! You're a tardy Marty? Heh, well it certainly helped you in the long run. You're as fast as lightning on the field."

As they landed, the elegance Moon River possessed faltered on her landing. She clipped a hoof and suddenly she was falling forward. Thank goodness she regained her balance just in time to make it look like she just decided to start running. She was in the mood for a quick jog anyways. That wasn't a trip, in front of a cute stallion, oh no...just a stylish way to hurry towards the ice cream parlor.

"Heh, I wonder what they have today. Do you have a particular favorite?" She was certainly curious to know more about Fast, and knowing what kind of ice cream he liked was definitely a good idea. Plus, her question would (hopefully) distract him from her clumsy landing after showing off in the air. Moon River wasn't looking for Fast to impress her. Strangely enough, she wanted to impress him.

Fast couldn't help but allow himself a grin at Moon's less-than-graceful landing and recovery. It was endearing, and it proved, maybe just a little bit, that she was trying as hard to impress him as he was trying to impress her.

He got lost for a second in the thought, especially as they both slowed to a stop just outside the ice cream parlor, and then she turned and looked at him.

Fast stopped. Stopped moving, stopped talking, stopped smiling, stopped breathing. There was a sweetness in her face he'd never noticed for all the glamour and the diamond eyes. A playfulness to her curls.

He wasn't in control of his brain. He was caught for a moment, and so -- if she asked, if she slapped him -- he'd have to claim temporary insanity. Loss of control caused by the golden curl that fell into her face from her exertion.

He kissed her.
PostPosted: Mon Jul 29, 2013 11:59 am

He kissed her. Fourseam Fastball, her once arch-nemesis turned friend kissed her.

Moon River had simply been awaiting an answer from him. They were just chit chatting about flying and ice cream. She simply wanted to know what his favorite flavor was. There was no attempt to seduce him, at least not at that moment, and yet she had received something special for nothing.

She gasped against his lips as her brain buzzed with questions and delight. So this was a date. So there really was something here. A little too eager for her own good, Moon River quickly sought to return his kiss. She clumsily bumped his nose with hers before finding just the right spot to smooch him.

It was wonderful. Moon River already knew the butterflies in her stomach would flutter for days to come after this. But she didn't mind. At last she had received something she really wanted from someone she truly had begun to care for. They had come a long way, her and Fast, and it looked like they weren't going to be done yet for a long while to come.
