The sun had just set. A large draft stallion surveyed the path that he wished to travel over the course of the night and nodded dutifully to himself. The horn that graced his head indicated his species but he lacked the tail and hooves his kind usually bore. Something so small could be overlooked the stallion supposed. He checked the horizon once more and noted the round sphere of white in the night sky. It was not full anymore but it would provide adequate light for his journey.

With a silent huff Cosmic Eternity once again set out. He was glad that his evening jaunts were becoming easier to adapt to. It might have taken him longer to rise at the end of the day but it was safer this way. Cool blue eyes widened in remembrance once again and his steps faltered. Why was he doomed to constantly remember? Cosmic paused mid-stride as the need to cry out nearly consumed him. His jaws locked down on the cry of anguish that fought valiantly to escape. A muffled whimper was all that sounded before the stallion continued on his way. Things were getting worse it seemed. The memories were still so vivid like it had only happened yesterday. He needed to bury those memories deep where they could not haunt him anymore.

Morsmordre's feet were heavy, and her eyes stung and burned. The ache of moving was causing pain to shoot through her over and over. She could feel the heaviness of it in her body, restricting her limbs and making her slow. Infection, she was sure.

She leaned against a tree, panting. It was still two days travel to get to the safety of a healer she could trust--but there wasn't that much time left. Bending at her neck, she threw bile and in it was a tinge of blood.

Pushing her feet further, she crashed to a halt as she came onto another soquili--a stallion with a horn.

Perfect.

He thought he had been alone. He had been certain of it. So how was it now that he stood staring across the way at another Soquili? If he was able to have made conversation Cosmic would have been fine; but as it stood he didn't want to talk to this stranger at all. By the looks of things though Cosmic could be lucky enough to avoid direct contact.

Sure he had most certainly been spotted but the stranger staring at his form didn't appear to be in top form. Perhaps it was best if he just continued on his way without even acknowledging the mare's presence. With the decision made Cosmic lowered his gaze to settle on the ground. He moved forward, away from the mare that stood nearby. His posture indicating he wanted nothing to do with her.

"Stop," Morsmordre hissed angrily. "Stop right there, or I'll rip you limb from limb." She drew herself up to her full and impressive height. She moved swiftly to close the gap between them. Her hooves dug in and she bore her teeth, the snakes in her hair coiling.

"You're going to help me, or I'll kill you. I'll take you with me," she could feel the fevered sweat on her brow but she tried to ignore it.

It was almost comical how fast Cosmic turned around to face the mare. His horn flashed silver in the light of the moon as he glared silently at her spoken threat. He wasn't some pushover that would follow someone's orders so blindly so why was it that he had stopped. He could have just kept on plodding along.

He took in the appearance of the violent one before him before lowering his horn to rest at the same level as where he believed the mare's heart would be. Just because his actions were in silence it didn't mean that he wasn't ready to defend himself. Cosmic raised his gaze while keeping his horn level. His eyes seemed to communicate his desire to be left alone.

She bared her teeth, envious of not having a tail or horn like some of her kind. "Don't think you scare me," her voice was low and gutteral. "But what of your kind? What of your beliefs?" She mocked, "You would leave me to die? What kind of unicorn are you?" She sneered as she stepped a few feet sideways and closer.

The stallion continued to watch the mare take steps to close the distance between them. He checked his position before hearing the mare's words. Obviously she wasn't aware that if threatened his kind would take to defending themselves with their horns. He continued to alter his position to keep the mare in sight.

It might not have been obvious yet to the mare but he'd still refused to speak a single word. All of his actions had been made in complete silence. Would that change if he was attacked? Cosmic snorted softly in warning. He just wanted to be left alone. His head came up and his eyes locked onto the mare's. He could tell that she was moving about him cautiously. Was she searching for an opening or was something else at work?

Morsmordre was feeling weaker as the seconds slept by, "Help me and I'll let you go." The words were bitter in her mouth, "I'll leave you alone." She hated to say it, she had never let a prey go willingly.

She pressed closer to him, her eye-sight swimming. "How does that sound to you?"

So this was the problem. She needed his help. This close to him and bathed in the moonlight Cosmic could see the festering wound on her side. He peered closer at the wound and then into the mare's eyes. Just how far had she managed to get before this wound had slowed her progress? The stallion eased back before merely nodding to himself. Would it have been seen as acquiescence to the mare's demands or a gesture that he knew what was happening. Whatever the case, although she had threatened him, this mare did not deserve to be felled by such a common injury. He lowered his horn to brush against the site of the wound.

Cosmic closed his eyes and began to concentrate deeply. He'd never really healed anything but injuries to his own body before. Well there had been that failed attempt but once again the stallion refused to think about it. He pushed the welling memory deep down into his subconscious mind and continued to concentrate instead on the here and now.

As he worked Cosmic could not groan at how slow the healing was progressing. His diluted blood apparently wasn't strong enough to fix everything. He had seemingly cleared out the infection but the wound was still an gaping mark on the mare's side.

Morsmordre felt the tip of his horn touch her, and felt the heat emanating through her body. It wasn't the same as the heat from her fever, but she shivered almost uncontrollably. The bile in her stomach calmed down, the feverish feel of her head cleared and her heart started beating more slowly over the agonizingly slow minutes.

She still felt sick, so achingly and bothersomely sick. It was then that she knew that she would break her promise, he couldn't leave yet. She would need him to regain his strength and heal her more.

Baring her teeth, she lunged for him hoping to get a grip of him and drag him to somewhere she could contain him.

To the trained eye one would know on first glance that the mare was still suffering. The quickness in which she moved though caught Cosmic off guard. He stumbled over the braided portion of his mane as he attempted to fend off the swift attack. His horn scored a small scratch just below the mare's left eye. It was purely an accidental strike. The hit would have only caused minor discomfort and nothing more.

Cosmic felt teeth catch his mane and he cocked his head to the side. Why did she not thank him and be on her way? He'd done the best he could. Cosmic made a pained grunt before gently attempting to extradite himself from the mare's grip. His eyes flashed with worry before he gazed solemnly at her. One might read the simple message of betrayal that his gaze expressed. He might not have said the words out loud but in his silence it could have almost been easy to know his thoughts.

I healed you and now you turn on me...

Morsmordre held on to him enraged, speaking through clenched teeth. "It's not done, you haven't healed me fully. I'll just leave and it'll be infected again. Until it's gone, you're mine."

She breathed more evenly now, her body shaking a little with the combined effort of holding him. But she felt better, much better than she had. But where would she take him now? Surely there was some cave she could hole up in until he fixed her completely.

So that was the issue now. Cosmic tugged gently against the hold that the mare had on him before ceasing his motions. Although he was larger in stature than the mare, Cosmic had not been trained to fight. Would it just be easier to acquiesce to this stranger's demands rather than fighting his way free and for certain picking up wounds of his own in the process?

The answer was no. The unicorn stallion blinked once before sighing softly. No words had yet to pass his lips to the mare in conversation. His demeanor spoke of a mild mannered individual that would only fight if he felt threatened. At this point he knew that for now the best option would to go willingly with this mare.

She tugged him harder, trying not to pant. "I promised, on my Master's Life, that I will release you once healed." It was not something she said lightly, and she meant it. "No harm will come to you, if you help me so I can make it to him."

Morsmordre hated making promises, but this was needed. She had to this time, because if not she'd never make it to her master, she'd never last another day or two with her blood boiling and her body shivering with sweat and fever.

She had not waited this long for him to come, she had waited long enough.

"Now come," she tugged harder panting.

The unicorn didn't care for the sensation of having his hair tugged forcefully. It didn't matter if the mare was in dire need of his services, Cosmic Eternity just didn't approve of her actions. He didn't offer any resistance but the tiny spikes of pain when the hair tore from the base of his mane was an irritating enough factor. The unicorn flinched at each minor flare of pain. He didn't try pulling away as that would have made things worse.

For a while it was merely enough just to follow complacent like behind the half-kalona mare in silence. Cosmic gave a faint grin. How unnerving would it be to the mare if she felt like she was talking to something that didn't talk back? A sigh left the burly stallion's frame as he was continued to be subjected to rough handling at the mare's actions. His mind floated to another time as he sought a way to distract himself from losing his temper. Just because he was going along with the mare it didn't mean that he appreciated being treated as just a thing.
