Unlike the rest of the wilderness, this area is a more recent invasion of the island – a corruption of what is meant to be. With a mayor that was fond of the exotic and unique, a zoo was akin to a flower garden meant to beautify an otherwise dull and boring island. There were many animals in this location – tigers, bears, penguins, gray wolves, and more, each with a peculiar name that seems to infuriate any of the surviving animals from these caged days. When the island was left uncared for, a careless sole zookeeper left a cage unlocked on a tiresomely long day. Which cage was it? One couldn't possibly know the answer to that. What one would know was that the animals took reign of the area, running loose and through weaker cages, over the few strong bars, or simply around when a door was found opened by one of the pesky, but clever, primates. What remains is a large series of cages and kiosks somewhere in the western part of the vast forest. Vines and weeds are already working their way into destroying whatever flimsy cages remain, while wildlife treats the area as a zone to be feared. One can only guess it has something to do with the resident Tasmanian devils that choose this to be their primary 'home'. Of course, even with the screeches scaring most away, these creatures are far more docile in this island for whatever reason.. Still, one should be wary.

His first impression was that he had fallen asleep in the church again during a late night prayer, but that thought was dispelled as a twitch of his face stirred dust up his nose. There was no such thing as dust at the Church. Jacob was the thing that dust feared most – they told stories about Nirvani's priest and his wicked mop and broom. Even if they would joke about Jacob in a french maid outfit that was Kade's and not his, he had no idea how the ******** that got into his closet, the dust still squirmed at night at the thought he could come and... Jacob snapped his eyes open and turned blurred vision around his environment before he fell asleep again because he really didn't need to start having fruity dreams of crossdressing at the Goddess' temple, even if he was being a total bad-a** against an army of dust particles. People would get ideas. Though.. that worry had quickly lost priority in his mind as he realized he wasn't anywhere he recognized. Jacob was sitting in his boxers in a big, rusty, cage somewhere.. outside? He could hear barking or something and, from what he could see, there was a lot of green outside.

….This was punishment, wasn't it. Jacob knew it. The Goddess had found out about him and Yoakim and he was being punished. The guy was married! He deserved it! But.. But, still, Jacob didn't want to be trapped in a hell of rusty bars in his boxers! Hadn't he done enough for the Goddess? Hadn't he cleaned her shrines to the best of his ability, dedicate his life to worshiping her and spreading her word? Why him? His hands were clasped together in prayer position as he walked on his knees towards the bars so he could look at the sky. “Oh, my Goddess, I ask your forgiveness..” He started as clearly as he could, before lowering his voice to start listing off any sin he could think that would make her take such measures.

Oh, how sweet it is to be standing in a meadow with your arms outstretched and the wind blowing softly through your hair and gently tossing the bottom of your beautiful sundress. Over the small hump in front of her, she could barely see someone coming towards her. She felt so wonderful and free, and curiosity got the best of her. Surely she had to meet the person who was frolicking through the flowers with her! As she ran towards them, and they towards her, she began to see more and more of the figure. Soon, more and more features began to materialize and she found that he had a large, bloody hammer. She stopped in her tracks and began to run back, her heart pounding harder than it ever had before. "NO! I'M NOT READY!" She jolted awake and into an upright position. Entirely relieved to find out that she was just having that same old nightmare. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, hoping that her chest would stop aching from the fright. She was so overwhelmed by this that she hadn't even noticed how different her bed felt under her.

Her hand moved from her chest and reached for the plush comforter that was always by her side. Her eyes opened wide when she found that there was nothing there but grass and dirt. She wanted to shriek, but was able to keep her silence, although the pang in her chest had quickly returned. Had the dream been real? Had he finally got to her and now trapped her as some kind of spectacle in a cage? Her heart was pounding in her ears so much that she could barely hear anything around her. Then, there was finally something that was able to break through. What was that? It sounded like someone was chanting. Oh goddess. It was worse than she thought. It was a cult. They were going to make her a sacrifice and there was nothing she could do. She didn't even know where she was and within this cage she wouldn't be able to use her detective powers to find out. That was it! Detective powers! She looked down and began patting at herself, but had found that she had been stripped up of utility belt and was wearing nothing more than an oversize tee shirt and boy cut panties. The hard reality that she had no protection hit her fast. She placed her head against the bar of the cage, fighting back the tears with all of her might. She was going to die.

Quiet.” Jacob snapped as the first shout echoed around the enclosure, squeezing his eyes shut tighter to try to maintain the concentration he had on his prayers. He didn't have a problem with doing them with distractions, even when his second nephew was playing one of his inane handheld games at the highest volume setting, but this wasn't just the same respectful words he gave to the Goddess every day for the last decade or so. This was serious and Jacob's own life was on the line. He tried to reason with her silently – who would take care of the church without him? No one had offered to tend to the church since the first hurricane all those years ago and, even decades later, not one other seemed interested in his job! It would be impossible to find a priest or nun to take care of the church and there was someone else here. His eyes shot open and he turned around with a yell of surprise at the woman pressed up against the bars. His friend who was in the cage with him. Zelynity, who the Goddess had decided to punish.. with him..?

Suddenly, his first assumption didn't make a damned amount of sense. He creased his brows and stared at her for a long time in thought before venturing to greet her because, Goddess, this was awkward. “...Zell, why are you – uh.” He stopped as his eyes finally decided to inform his brain what should have been obvious – Zelynity wasn't dressed properly. At all. She was in her underwear and a t-shirt and he had doubts she had anything under that, while Jacob was just in his boxers and.. and this looked really bad. He cleared his throat and averted his eyes to the bars instead because, even if he had seen Zelynity, y'know, before, he hadn't in the light and they were.. sorta in public.

A second or two ticked on before the only logical scenario decided to surface in his mind. He lifted his eyes to the ceiling of the 'cell' as he tried to speak again, “...Did you take me on one of your 'detective cases' and get us drunk or something?” If so, then she really owed him.

While completely wallowing in self pity and fear, Zelynity had neglected to realize just how close the chanting had been to her. It wasn't until someone called her name that she realized that she was in immediate danger and jumped practically out of her skin. She slowly dared to turn, ready to face her captor when she saw Jacob. Simple, lovely friendly Jacob. It was taking all that she had to peel her eyes away from his bare body. It had been quite some time since she saw him so vulnerable. She forgot just how nice the priest's body was. She dared to look up at his face, her cheeks gaining heat. She wanted to slap herself. There were two good reasons why she should not be attracted to him! One. He was her best friend! And they didn't have anything between them besides that one thing that one time, BUT THAT WAS A FAVOR. She practically made him, although he didn't seem too reluctant. That wasn't the point! Two. He was her captor and it most definitely seemed like it was not in any sort of fun way. So, he had a dark side to him. He was the one ready to kill her so mercilessly and leave her out in the wilderness to die. She was about to start screaming at him and asking why he had her trapped like some crazed animal when he asked her why they were there.

So he had no idea either. It wasn't until the relief of him not being the reason that she was here hit her and she dove at him. "Oh Jakey, I was so worried that you might be the reason that I'm here! I should've known that you wouldn't do something like that. I was just so scared. But, now that you're here I feel much safer." Oh, what a lovely predicament they were finding themselves in. She shook her head, still trying to fight back the tears surfacing as she clung to him for dear life. She was glad that Jacob was here at least, now she had much more of a chance at survival. They were both relatively fit and witty, they could handle whatever was happening. At least she hoped they could. Now was not the time for fear. It was the time for picking yourself up and figure out what was going on. She realized that she had been holding onto him for an exceptionally long time, and peeled herself back and sat back on her feet. "I've been running last night through my mind over and over again. The last I remember I was getting into bed and then I just woke up here. Do you remember anything weird?" She figured the best course of action was to get all of their facts straight and work on a way to get out. They could do this. They could do this. All she could keep telling herself was that they could do this. They had to. They could do this.

Jacob was just examining the ceiling, wondering if he could see any signs of the Goddess up there because the fairies had a really weird way of showing they were watching and it would be the only comfort he could have in this situation to know the faithful was being guarded. Even if it was by fruit-flies with wands. ...Damn, that was pretty.. blasphemous. He would have to find something extra-worthy for the shrines next he got out because, even stressed as he was, he didn't need to start cursing the Goddess' fairies. He sent a silent apology – or he started to, but then Zell had decided that hugging him when she was practically naked was the best response in this scenario. As if he wasn't so obviously embarrassed as it was, fate had to egg the girl into making skin-to-skin contact with him. He mentally smacked himself for having any indecent thoughts because he really, really shouldn't. Not right now and definitely not ever with her. Though it would – agh, he couldn't think straight!

Luckily, she had pulled back and he could pull his legs to his chest and respond like a normal, rational, not screwed up human being. “Don't call me that.” He said first, because he couldn't think of anything else to say right then outside of his strong distaste of that nickname. It sounded almost like what Kade tried to call him half the time, but he didn't threaten Zell like he would Kade. He just rolled his eyes and moved on talking without waiting for a response, because, honestly? It was sort of nice to hear it from Zell. Plus, he was put into a pretty good mood as she outright said he was her protector right then. “I don't remember anything? I was sweeping the church and.. I went to sleep? Uh, in my room? You sure you didn't drag us out here?” He paused briefly and grinned slightly, “It's okay if you did, but you could have picked a better spot. This place sucks.” But, seriously, that was the only explanation he had. Zelynity had randomly realized she wanted another 'favor' and decided that a romantic get away was the best option. What the heck else could have happened?

Oh, he didn't say that, did he?! Ilex huffed as he observed the two who were not doing anything baby-making related whatsoever. Urgh! Why didn't anyone want to listen to his superior match-making skills?! He would have spent more time pouting, but then nothing else would happen if he did that! He had to push them together! So, best thing to do was to give them something romantic! The little fairy dashed throughout the cell, morphing it into a fancy restaurant, complete with scented candles throughout, a small table with a BIG quadruple chocolate cheesecake for the two to share with a bunch of whipped cream and diamonds and.. maybe he should stop at the jewels. He refrained from the rubies, but managed to drop a pretty emerald on top just to put the finishing touch. After that, he only needed chairs and wine to put down and he was done! There, try saying that 'sucks'! He poofed away proudly to his next victims~

Zelynity had given up on the stupid gate, it obviously wasn't going to open up anytime soon. She slumped back onto her butt and pulled her legs up under her chin; she had almost fallen back down into her sadness when she realized what he had said to her. "You did not just try to tell me what to do." She squinted her eyes at him slightly and reached for his hair to ruffle it up in a playful way, "I'll call you Jakey if I want!" She practically sang the last part, enjoying the look of utter disgust on his face a bit too much. "Would you prefer I call you father?" She giggled and rubbed his cheek before pulling back away and standing up. Ah, she was glad that this cage was rather large, it felt good to stretch out her legs. "I'm positive I didn't drag you anywhere, Jake. I think I'd know and I wouldn't pick this dump." She kicked her foot gently against the bar before attempting to look out of them again, hoping she could get a better view from higher up.

As she was peering out into the abandoned area, the scenery around her began to change. The bars had vanished around them and were replaced by beautiful walls. She turned her head to look at Jacob to make sure it wasn't all just a dream and to make sure he was seeing what she was seeing. Thankfully, he was still there and she could still cling to some sense of reality. While she was looking at him, a table had formed and on top it lay an exquisite cake that looked like something she had never seen before. Her hand instinctively went to her mouth, she was in pure shock. Had he stuck so closely to the story of her dragging them here, because he had dragged her here? There was even wine! It was such a lovely little set up. Were those diamonds?! Oh, she felt just like she was in some sort of fairytale. "Oh Jacob." Her voice was low and shaky as she looked back down at him from the beautiful set, "is this all for me?" She was practically in tears. She had always suppressed her feelings for him, thinking that it was all just some kind of fluke brought on by their friendship. But this... this meant that he felt something too. She was dumbfounded and stood there holding her hand to her chest while staring back over at the table set for two.

Jacob was almost worried that Zelynity was seriously going to start crying as she sank back into a ball, because if she started to cry, then Jacob duties as protector of the woman would be alarmingly close to failure. He couldn't let that happen and he was about to try to say something to cheer her up, something totally masculine and cool that previous unnamed idols would say, when she perked up all on her own. She even ruffled his hair, much to his displeasure, and went on to tease him stubbornly on the nickname. He would have been more irritated about it if it wasn't just so damn relieving to know she wasn't freaking out. He rolled his eyes with a smile despite himself and grunted in agreement at the 'father' remark. He knew it was his title, but.. yeah, he wasn't sure he liked her doing it when they were alone together, just being friends.

"Right, you have tas--" He cut himself off and bit his tongue from making a scream that would really make her see him as nothing more than a little girl, but it wasn't like she wouldn't forgive him. The whole Goddess-damned cage was changing. He looked to her wordlessly in shock and maybe a bit of awe because, wow, miracles. He didn't think he would witness one so bizarre though. Once it was all through with, he slowly got to his feet and looked around. This... well, okay, then. He wasn't sure what the Goddess or her fairies were planning, but he guessed there was nothing wrong with having a meal while trapped in the middle of the wilderness of Nirvani Island. He was already at the table to yank the cork off the wine because he really needed a drink when Zelynity finally spoke. He turned to look back at her in astonishment, "Uh?" For her? Did.. she think he did this? He looked down at the table and back to her a few times. ...Well... Why not? He set the wine down and nodded at her, arms crossed over his chest in pride. "Yeah. Just for you, Zell."

Oh my goddess... Oh my goddess... Oh my goddess... It was all that she could think as her hands pressed against her cheeks in what she soon realized had to be a completely unflattering way. She allowed her hands to drop back down, but one was soon plastered back to her chest as he said those marvelous words. Her mind had been racing with such excitement that she had hardly noticed the confused look on his face. However, whatever she did notice about his uncertainty quickly flew right out of her head when he said that it was all for her. Sure, it did all seem a little impossible for him to have done, but she didn't question the ways of the goddess. Jacob must have just prayed and prayed for something as marvelous as this to happen. She felt so entirely special in this moment, even if her clothing wasn't really up to par with such a beautiful setting. She finally gathered herself all together, after biting back her tears. It would be entirely inappropriate to ruin it with her tears. She simply couldn't have that! This was the day that she had literally dreamed of for years! This was the day when Jacob looked deep into her eyes and admitted his love for her. This was the day when everything would fall perfectly in line. This was the day that everything changed.

She sat down across from him and got a better look at the beautiful cake and the marvelous emerald placed perfectly on top. "I should have known that your incessant accusations of this all being my fault had to mean something." She sighed, still not able to fully get over it all. "I never would have imagined anything like this. It's so wonderful!" She trailed her finger on the table, attempting to fully process everything running through her head and reach a state where she was able to fully enjoy this. There was far too much on the line, and she wanted to make sure that she didn't allow her excitement to come through too heavily. She needed to calm down. She needed to be suave. She crossed her legs and leaned her head on the back of her wrist, finally daring to look over into his lovely eyes. "I'd like a glass, father." She said with a smile, holding up her glass towards him. There was something about the name that made it all seem so exhilarating and just... just... naughty! Having a glass of wine in the wilderness with a priest you fell for when you still thought he was gay. Yeah, it doesn't get any more exhilarating than that.

Goddess, this was weird. He didn't think that, of all miracles for the Goddess to bless him with, it would be, well, this. He eyed the gem-smattered cake warily as he worked the cork off, wondering if this was all just some sick prank before the deity offed him for his sins. The food would be poisoned, Zell would turn into some weird praying-mantis demon, and no one would find his body ever again. The pop and fizz brought his attention back to the bottle in his hand as he considered throwing it down and working his way out of this cell so he could get home and say his goodbyes before he was dragged off to wherever the Goddess punished people. ...But that would mean spending his last moments possibly seeing Kade and that would just be a crappy way to go out. Another night with demon Zell was a bit more appealing.

He smiled at her and filled her glass up, “Yeah, that it's your fault. But it's cool.” Attractive demon Zell didn't have to worry about protests from him because, well, praying mantis-style demon still included a good night before being murdered or whatever. He sat down at his spot across from her after he poured himself his own drink, already holding the glass in one hand. “It is pretty great, though. Ending with you, I mean. I didn't think she would know to choose – well.” He paused to take a drink – or three, because he needed this right now, damn it. He set the glass down with a clink and looked at the cake again – it did look pretty good. He didn't usually indulge, but given this may be his last hours, he couldn't stop himself from wanting a slice. “She is the Goddess. You want a slice? You can have the emerald.” He offered as he motioned to the cheesecake, taking another drink and willing the alcohol to work it's magic while he was still resigned to his fate.

Zelynity raised her glass to him before taking a drink. "Oooo, that's good." She purred and sat the glass back down on the table. She smiled over to Jacob as he continued talking, or more just rambling. What had he meant that he didn't think she would know? To choose what? Who the hell is she? Was talking aloud about some other woman while they were on their first real date. Oh, he was just asking for it! She felt her face getting warm and decided it best to take a few deep breaths and just keep smiling. Maybe he was trying to get her to flare up. Jealousy was not a very flattering feature, she'd have to keep that to herself. For now, she was composed and lovely, simply overlooking him. ...The goddess? Did he mean the goddess goddess or was he calling that b***h a goddess?! She gritted her teeth, trying to keep up a decent smile and not freak out on him, but it was getting so hard with all of this talk of someone else. Was she not good enough? Why in the hell didn't he just set up some super romantic getaway for this other whore then?! She had to keep reminding herself to take deep breaths.

Oh, right. The cake. "I'd love a piece! That emerald is just so beautiful, I can't believe you even remembered my favorite color! You're so sweet!" And with that, her insecurities had melted away as she stared longingly into his lovely face. She didn't ever really remember them talking about their favorite colors, so it meant even more that he knew! Where had all of this come from? Had he been hiding his feelings all along just as she had? She just had to ask. At the thought of him feeling the same all along, she was snapped back into reality and felt a strange mixture of excitement and worry. She began to feel increasingly anxious and finally just blurted out the first sentence that wasn't some word jumble. "Jacob, why exactly did you do all of this?" Her voice was unnaturally high as she asked and it made her feel all the more embarrassed. She wished the small cave hadn't disappeared, it would be a perfect time to go crawl away and die.

Jacob gave her an odd look – she.. looked like she was in pain..? And she was breathing weird too.. Wait, did Zell have asthma or something? Oh, damn, she never mentioned anything like that before and this was probably the worst place to have an attack because he had no clue where he could find an inhaler in a fancy restaurant or in some goddess damned decrepit zoo. Before he could go into full out panic, however, she went back to normal in the blink of an eye, calming him instantly. Well, he was still somewhat certain she was a Goddess-sent demon, so he guessed that panic should have just been relief in the first place. He shook his head at himself and stood up to grab a very conveniently placed knife alongside the fanciful dish the cake was placed on. “You like emeralds?” He should probably remember that for his nonexistent future – okay, no, but it was still nice to know. ...Or it had always been nice to know because this was Jacob's miracle and, if on the very off chance this was the real Zell, he probably shouldn't ruin it for her.

He cleared his throat and smiled, “Yeah, of course you do, I always knew that, Zell. Goes to show the great friend I am – I don't think youUh.” The word caught in his throat as the knife sliced through the crust and collided with the plate underneath, sounding a noticeable tink to signal the beginning of an awkward silence. The voice was too high for regular Zell, which could have just been a bigger indicator this wasn't normal Zell and he was talking to nothing real, but whatever safety net he had from that delusion didn't work for this. Even if it wasn't her, saying anything aloud put his stomach into knots at the possibility it could reach someone for stupid reasons only teenage boys would be excused for having. Which Jacob was not, so he should get over it and take the inevitable rejection.

He sat down, poured himself another glass, and drank it down, if only to moisten his throat so he didn't squeak or stutter or sound any less of the man he was. “Well,” That was a definite squeak. Damn it. He forged on, “you could say I think we're good friends and I appreciate that.” Yeah, he could stop right there, smile, serve that cheesecake, and.. and, no, dammit, he was still talking. “You could say I wanted to go for another round, but the Goddess doesn't do this for a quickie, so I'll be, uh, honest here.” He cleared his throat, “...You're pretty, Zell, and you're a good person – great, you're a great person, and it's great hanging out with you, but it could be greater if we could do more than just hang out since – that night? It was great, uh, but it's not just that.Damn it, this wasn't coming out right. “It's more, I – Goddess, you still want that cake? Sorry, forgot about the cake.” Maybe the demon was charitable and would forget that fail? The cake could be a good bribe, so he hurriedly dropped a slice in front of her and sank back in the chair to not kill himself because that was really stupid.

Zelynity watched his face carefully. She had grown very used to noticing the slight twitches in someone's face when they were lying. The look that crossed someone's face when they were embarrassed. The smell that emanated from a young boy in love. Only one of these was prominent in Jacob at this very moment, and not the one that she had been waiting for. Maybe his undying love for her was overshadowed by the embarrassment. That was all she could really cling to at this point. Unfortunately, the only part of his little spiel she was focusing hard on was the another round. Had she mistaken this lavish lovefest for a sly ruse to get her back in the sack? He was starting to ramble off again, and she was still staring intently at him, with the best attempt at a straight face she could get with so much emotion lying under the surface. This was Jacob, surely she could get some kind of read on him after all of these years. Was it common for him to drink so much? She tried to listen to him some more. Cake? Yes she still wanted some cake, oh was she supposed to be done with it? Alright then, no cake. She dropped her hand that had been stroking her chin in deep thought as he slipped down further into his chair. He looked so defeated, what had she missed? She was such a shoddy detective! She had spent all of her time analyzing his first sentence and missed all of the rest. She should be fired from her post. No, no she shouldn't. It was all his fault. He was the one that made her act like a buffoon.

She took another sip of her drink and cleared her throat. "I'm going to be frank with you. I'm not particularly fond of just another round. I don't just want to be like a slice of cake to you. Enjoy me at your leisure and then just abandon me for all the other desserts out there? I mean, you probably have pies, strudels, muffins, and goddess knows how many cookies beating down your door." She was getting incredibly distracted by the cake just sitting there begging to be eaten, but it was kind of going along with her message so she just kept with it. "I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'd like to be the only dessert in your life. A lovely indulgence that you can have whenever you want, without that awful pang of guilt." She tried her hardest to keep her gaze on his face as she talked, but the memory of his toned chest seemed oh so wonderful. She fought the urge to look at him, trying to make sure there was nothing left that she needed to say to him. The more she thought about it, the more she really wished she hadn't said anything.

Whatever part of her didn't look like she was crazy, probably looked like she was obsessed with sweets. Maybe he wouldn't notice the hidden meaning that she had tried to throw out there, but she knew it was blatantly obvious. Did she need to say it more? Would it help if she just jumped onto the table and screamed her love for him at the top of her lungs? Would it be any better if she crawled across and kissed him? Would it help any if she wasn't such a puss and could do either of those things? It took most of her energy just to come up with that stupid dessert story. Strudels, cookies? What was she even talking about?! She wanted to slam her fist into her face in hopes that some of the stupidity would fall out of her. But that would only make her look even crazier. So there she sat, legs crossed and hands placed firmly in her lap. She was smiling at him and praying to the goddess that some other miracle would happen and they could just frolic out of the zoo, hand in hand and never look back on the way their lives had been. If only she wouldn't regret leaving that cake for the rest of her life.

Jacob wasn't sure if it was because he was dehydrated, scared, confused, and maybe a little drunk, but he really couldn't help it when he heard her go on about cakes. He pursed his lips at the first reference because, yeah, this was a serious thing, he wanted to know what she had to say, but.. then she kept going on. Cake this, cake that, and he could see her eyes losing his and going off to the slice he had set in front of her instead. Should he be angry that when he had actually opened up a bit to her, managed to convince the Goddess herself (maybe) to put all this together just for her, all she could think about was eating some fantastic looking cheesecake? Nah. Nah, that was probably why he liked Zell. So, he laughed at her instead. He lowered his hands and went to holding his knees, leaning over as he burst out in complete entertainment at how much of a dork Zell could be. The only problem was that, while he was trying to calm himself, he lost his footing just enough to topple him onto the table and face-first into the remains of the cake.

It was hard to continue chortling at anything in that position, so at least he stopped laughing as he peeled himself off of the cake. He was just dislodging one of the precious stones from his nose when his fuzzy brain had come up with the best line ever. Years of perusing romantic comedies and the last glass or two of wine fueled him to look at her and state, "Zell, I'm offering you the chance to have your cake and eat it too." Wait, did that even make sense in response to what she was saying? Ah, hell, like he cared right then. He only wanted to lean over and mush some cake onto her too by using his.. face. No, no, wait, he just wanted to kiss her. Yeah, that sounded cool. He went and did just that, like the beefcake he was.
