The mountain mine can be found at the base of the mountain, leading up instead of the usual down. Who ever made it to begin with, not many truly know, but it is still there for the local miner or, perhaps, just a group of teens looking for something new to explore. ..This may not be the best place to perform the latter, however.. There is always a risk of cave ins, especially with a whole mountain's weight looming above. Rain is not as much an issue here, considering that it would take a grand flood for it to go very far in the ascending tunnels, but the entrance could always collapse and trap one within. Most comers would be smart to take along a shovel or pickaxe, more for in the case of disaster than to actually mine. But, aside from those few dangers, it may be surprising that one can find any sort of mineral inside this mine, the veins growing in value the deeper someone treks. But, to find the truest beauty within the mine, avoiding unstable passages and the occasional gathering of bats, one will need to find the only tunnel descending into the earth. Down there, where the walls naturally form their own support, there is a shrine. Here, we give worship to the Metal Fairy and all it's past followers.

At first, Mei wondered if she had dug too deep.

Obviously it was a silly assumption, because the tunnels she had dreamed of constructing beneath the clinics weren't this well supported -- as she knew nothing about tunnel construction -- and that was saying something since this didn't look well supported at all. But to Mei, it was totally reasonable to just guess that she built this in her sleep. It didn't last, though. Once her eyes had adjusted to the darkness and she realized she wasn't asleep in bed, in her house, with her children, the anxiety hit her like a ton of bricks.

She had been lying on her back, but when she had fully regained consciousness, she flipped over onto her hands and feet. Someone was lying not far from her, and her first thought was 'It happened, Mao is going to kill us all'. But this person next to her was too big to be Rune or Mitsukai, and there was no way Mao would kill someone else and not her too, so she pushed it out of her head. Even without that terrifying thought, she was too overwhelmed with confusion and fear to do much at all. She let out a long, unintelligible stream of Mandarin gibberish, before falling into a soft, rhythmic repetition of "Oh my oh my oh my oh my oh my" and on and on and on. What was she going to do?

x~x~x~x~x~x~Sothen Viniva~x~x~x~x~x~x

When Sothen reached over to hit the alarm clock - he always awoke exactly five minutes before it went off - he hit a a mound of hard dirt instead. His eyes instantly opened, and after taking in his strange surroundings, he was afraid to make any sudden movements. It wasn't too long before he started to hear a soft voice speaking in a language he didn't recognize, however, it sounded as distressed as he currently felt. Daring himself to sit up, he turned to see a woman. A woman. Looking down at himself, his panic became extreme embarrassment. Clad only in boxers, it seemed his kidnappers didn't have the decency to give him at least pants. Even in his embarrassment, Sothen's face was stoic as usual, although he avoided direct eye contact with the woman.

From his quick glances at her, he deduced she was older, though he couldn't really tell how much older. Maybe 40? The stress was easy to read on her face, but otherwise she seemed to have a kind look about her. Harmless. Though Priscilla always told him he was too gullible. He just couldn't bring himself to believe she was behind this.
"Ahem." In his attempt to speak, he chickened out and went for clearing his throat instead. He brought his knees up to his chest, almost as if to hide his indecency. "I...uh...Did you bring me...here?" The mines was an odd place to bring a stranger, but at this point, Sothen didn't strike anything out as an option. Perhaps the two of them were taken to the mines to be killed for whatever reason? Nobody would ever find them.

The corpse moved, and Mei almost screamed. She didn't, that was the important part, but she would have opened her mouth in a silent scream if she hadn't flinched so hard instead. "Zombie...!" she managed to squeak between clenched teeth as sheer terror seized her. ...But he didn't look like a zombie very much. His skin wasn't gray or rotting, his voice was actually quite clear, and he didn't seem to have any desire to eat her, and as she relaxed slightly, she felt a little silly for jumping to conclusions. But she couldn't relax completely; her heart still pounded hard in her chest, and her shoulders were scrunched up almost to her ears as she gawked at her mine-mate. "O-o-oh," she stammered, keeping her eyes firmly away from his bare chest or boxers, a slight blush creeping across her face. She had never seen a man in such a state of undress. She almost wanted to look, but she was much too shy to allow herself even that much indecency. Quickly, she covered her chest with her arms, even though she was wearing a very very modest nightgown and there wasn't anything to hide, it just made her feel better okay. "No, no I don't think so... Did you bring me here? Um, I have children so please don't hurt me, no matter how much Mao may have paid you," she cowered. The man didn't look scary, but she couldn't be so sure. Lots of people here seemed nice until they were out of the public eye. This man could be a perfectly kind person on the outside, but bribed with enough money, maybe he could do terrible things. Mei wouldn't doubt anything right now, she was much too afraid and confused to be skeptical.

x~x~x~x~x~x~Sothen Viniva~x~x~x~x~x~x

A zombie?! Where? Frantically looking behind him and to the sides, he braced himself with his hands on the cold ground. The woman looked absolutely petrified...So that mean there had to be a zombie. He had nothing to defend himself from a zombie! Maybe this rock would do... Sothen picked it up, clenching it in his hand, for when it showed up. But he couldn't see around the corners...It was so dark in the caves. But then the woman suddenly relaxed? What was going on? It took him a moment to realize she was looking at him! His mouth formed an 'o' as he let the rock slip from his hand back to the ground. Him holding it probably wouldn't help her image of him. He too quickly adverted his gaze as a blush emerged on her cheeks and she attempted to cover herself...Even though she was wearing much more than he was. Hell, he'd wear a night gown right now instead of sitting in a mine practically nude.

After several moments of contemplation, his gaze finally wandered back to the woman. Who was Mao? Children?
"Um..." He ran his fingers through his hair. Who had brought the two of them there? How can he help the woman here without her being completely afraid of him? She had children! They would miss her a whole lot...They needed her. "I...don't know who Mao is." Unfortunately, this woman seemed as quiet as he was. Well...Just because he didn't talk much, didn't mean he couldn't do anything. Scratching his neck uncomfortably, he finally decided to stand up. It probably wouldn't help that he was relatively tall. Actually, he towered over her. Without saying anything, he started following one of the paths dark paths. How would he ever find his way out? He could hardly see two feet in front of him. There could be a big gaping hole and he wouldn't even know, but it would be best if he fell. Then the woman could escape without falling to her death. Assuming she followed him of course.

Mei was a trusting individual. Maybe that was her downfall, maybe that was why she encountered so much trouble over the years. She could be wary and she often leaped to conclusions, but she didn't hold onto those negative images for long. She was more inclined to believe in the good of people, so when the man, despite his relative nakedness, made the smallest of goodwilled gestures by denying a connection to Mao, she believed him. He wasn't a corpse, he wasn't a zombie, and he wasn't sent by Mao to kill her. This was a reassuring thought, yes, but it was slow to settle. Even after Sothen had spoken up, Mei continued to sit there, arms wrapped about herself, gawking up with wide eyes. He didn't know who Mao was, but then that left the circumstances of their being here without a plausible answer. She trusted his words to be true but she didn't quite trust him yet, and she still had to run those scenarios through her head.

When the man stood up and began to walk away, Mei finally snapped out of her stupor. "O-Oh," she remarked softly as he disappeared into the dark shadows of the mine. She didn't know if she could trust him, but he had been thrown her with her, and that made him the closest thing to a companion she had. And at this moment, she would rather have a companion than to be all alone in this strange place. Shakily, she rose to her feet, and after taking a few hesitant steps to test the ground (she was barefoot afterall) she hurried after Sothen. "W-wait!" she cried as she trotted after him. "Where are you going?" It made her nervous, him walking away without a word like that.

x~x~x~x~x~x~Sothen Viniva~x~x~x~x~x~x

Sothen stopped in his exploration at the sound of light footsteps following him. He hadn't walked far anyways; he was expecting her to follow eventually. "Oh! Careful..." What he didn't expect was for her to almost crash into him, but he didn't mind. Better she run into him than fall into a pit. If she ran after him, then she must trust him enough, or just the fact they were in the middle of a mine, nobody in sight, that drew her to him. Two were better than one, right? Hopefully the two would be able to get out in a timely manner. He didn't want to be late for work! "I don't...really know." It seemed kind of hopeless, this place could be huge. It certainly felt huge. Maybe they could find a small stream; a water source would be a decent place to start or survive for awhile. And they could follow a underground river hopefully to the outside. But this wasn't a normal cave...So the chances of finding water were slim.

He took her hand gently and placed it on his shoulder. He kept the other hand on the side of the rock wall to guide them. With his eyes finally adjusted to the darkness, he looked closely at the woman. Sothen had seen her around town a few times...She worked in the clinic if he remembered correctly. Why couldn't he remember her name? Think! There was no way he would ask either; that would be embarrassing!
"Do you have any ideas?"

Ah! The little fairy observed from the top of the mine the pair interact, pleased they weren't actively trying to escape – not that they could – and seemed to be getting along! The only problem was that they weren't getting along enough. Really, how could they not see how perfect they were for eachother?! Sothen was handsome, strong, and – ah, Ilex wasn't going to start checking out his followers now! He needed to get the romance juices going and the best way to do that was some subtle intervention! He conjured up a stereo and set it into the ceiling to play on repeat I Will Always Love You for the next 932,493 hours until someone did something baby-making related. Next, he showered them with rose petals because her followers always loved flowers, didn't they? Ah, it didn't matter! The scene was pretty darn romantic now and all he had to do was wait for the two to get it on. Now, for the next couple~! Ilex poofed himself away to do more work~!

She flinched slightly when Sothen took her hand and put it on his shoulder. It was a little awkward to walk like that, but Mei had faith that he knew what he was doing. Why else would he venture into the darkness so fearlessly? Sure, he said he didn't know where he was going, but it didn't seem like it to her. He was just so tall and blonde, that had to count for something! "Do you think we are lost?" she asked hesitantly. What would her babies do without her? That's when she heard it. The ghostly music, echoing off the dark walls. Although it was too dark to see, she paled instantly. She knew this song, it was a popular pick on those singing competition shows that were always playing in China. But where was it coming from? "D-do you hear it?" she asked in a trembling voice. Maybe it was whomever kidnapped them? But why this song? She didn't want to die to this song! She was white with fear, and then something began to rain down from the ceiling. Something soft and cold hit the back of her neck, and immediately she let out a short scream, letting go of Sothen's shoulder and latching onto his arm. "It touched me! Something touched me!" she panicked, switching to Mandarin without even realizing it.

Lost? Of course they were! But it seemed she trusted him so he merely nodded to her question...Before remembering it was dark and she probably couldn't seem him that well. As soon as his mouth opened to reply to her, it slammed shut. His hairs slowly stood on end when the music began to play, softly at first, echoing off the walls and enveloping them in a strange tune. It was a song he had never heard before...And quite frankly, now, never wanted to hear again. Love? This was the opposite of it! Their captors had a very strange sense of humor. Psychotic killers no doubt. The two should get out as soon as possible. "Ach!" He let out a slight yelp as the woman grabbed onto his arm and invaded his personal space more than before. Maybe if he were wearing more clothes he wouldn't be so quick to recoil. Why did the woman jump? Was there something else going on? Just before he was about to shake her off a bit, he felt...Something soft falling down onto him. They felt like moth wings attacking his body, and surely they were assaulting the innocent woman with him! Allowing an unsuppressed shudder travel through his body, he placed his free hand reassuringly on her arm when she sputtered out some Asian language. One of them had to remain calm...Even if his own heart was racing in apprehension at the situation. "We should...pick up the pace." He had no intention of dying a death by moths.

Taking some steps forward, the woman signing continued to eerily echo through the caverns, and the moths continued to rain upon him. Clenching his jaw, he continued on quietly while carefully placing his feet.
"I think...I might see something shining!" But it could just be his imagination. Or the criminals themselves. It did seem they were in a mine, it could be gemstones. He turned to his companion. "Do you think we should approach it? ...Or go the other way?" He would leave it up to her; she had more to risk...And she seemed so timid. Sothen didn't want to lead her into something she wanted to avoid.

Oh, it was so horrible! Lily had cried for days. Her follower, one of her oldest, sweetest, loveliest followers, spirited away into this dark scary mine! Just the thought of poor Mei, scared and practically alone, was enough to move the fairy to tears. She was not the type of fairy to intervene, like Ilex had, and yet, even she had a limit. That's why, even though she very rarely did things like this, she had come to right the wrongs her brother had committed. ...It took her a while, though. This mine was so creepy! Ilex may have liked it, but Lily preferred her field a lot more. She could be brave for Mei's sake! ...Or maybe not. After hysterically flying around in those awful gloomy passageways, she decided she had had enough of this place. She'd just have to try to pull them out! Lily summoned up her strength and filled the mine with a strong wind that ripped through the passages. Lily dodged a barrage of rose petals, and then -- ah! Sure enough, the wind had caught Mei and Sothen and pushed them through the dark passage all the way to the exit! They were free now, though perhaps a little windswept. With a small sigh of relief, Lily wiped her eyes and left the mine herself. Now they could return to their normal, happy, peaceful leaves, and Mei to her children. What a relief!

- Sothen and Mei are free from the mine! End event! -
