 The beds needed tending.
Sighing slightly, Snap lowered to her knees quietly, and lowered her mouth to scoop up some moss, and move it around, gently. It was a rare quiet day in the glade, with just her tending the fish pond, the flames at the center of her moss beds, and make sure the hanging snake bodies were still good. They could go bad, and bad meat definitely wasn't her favorite food to eat, even cooked like Dream prepared the strips. She rose quietly, and stretched, yawning a tiny bit.
That reminded her. Dream had told her (rather shyly, really) that he was going out hunting, and that he wouldn't be back for a few days. He had taken Harm with him, claiming the flirty buck needed 'toughening'. Free had made mumbles about being nervous and wanting to go find other berries, and that she'd felt... watched. That last bit had made Snap a bit wary of her surroundings, but she remembered that a totoma buck had come by briefly, taken a snake without a word, and left. He'd creeped her out, but hadn't done anything violent...
Sighing, she wished for something... interesting. Anything...

The 'something interesting' took a bit to show up, and when it did, it was quietly, the red buck moving slowly as if tracking something terribly close to Snaptwig's pond. Closer inspection would reveal a downed bird hobbling along on the ground, and it was this the buck was tracking, slow and careful and smooth --
And then a flurry of energy erupted from Ember as he snapped forward, breaking the large bird's neck neatly with one crunch of his jaws. Finally, something solid to eat!

That... had certainly been unexpected and sad. Snap blinked at the unexpected brutality of the slaying, and frowned a bit. "Ah, hello there, how are you? You're a hungry fellow, aren't you. And look at your hair. How'd you get it up like that? I kinda like it..." Snap spoke quickly, shaking off her slight startled feelings. She moved closer to Ember, and peered at him. "M'name's Snaptwig. Who're you? If you'd like, you can stay here and eat. We've got snake and berries, even a few fish, if you want them..."

Ember looked up, startled, the big bird hanging from his mouth; after a moment, he dropped the bird, giving a faint cought. "I'm... The bird's wing was broken already when I found it. I think it hit a tree wrong. It was going to die anyway, and yes, I'm hungry." He made a move for the bird again before pausing and glancing back at the doe. "I'm Night of the Dancing Flame. But call me Ember. It's easier."

"Don't worry about it, my friend..." Snap murmured, moving closer, and leaning down, and taking hold of the bird, and moving it to pull out the feathers for him. "It's nice to meet you... Here, come on. Do you like to eat fish? How bout berries?"

"I... eat everything. I'll share the bird, if you're sharing your food," Ember offered, a bit taken aback by her generosity. "Oh, and that's feathers, not my hair. Sticking up like that. I collect them. Do you want some of this bird's feathers?"

Smiling widely, the doe nodded eagerly. "I'd love some. Perhaps I can add them to some of my collections, or dye them with berry juice or wear them like you wear yours..." she murmured, and then moved closer to him. Most kin wouldn't get that close on a first meeting, but she wanted to see how he tucked the feathers into his mane like that...
