Upset girl? Nearby Negaverse aura?

Aventine could really only conclude one thing. The girl had been in hysterics when she approached, but Aventine's costume had sent her running off as quickly as she'd come. It left Aventine in an awkward position; power down, chase after the girl and try to help…or try to make sure no one else got hurt, tonight.

In the end, she chose to stalk down the nearest Negaverse aura. It didn't take more than a moment; she walked briskly, wanting to hurry before she lost it entirely. From what she could gather he wasn't as strong as she was, and while she had learned not to underestimate anyone, she was also far more inclined to approach someone she had an advantage over.

Pushing through the trees and bushes scattered throughout the forest, she made her own shortcut and beelined straight towards the aura. It didn't take too long before she was right on top of it.

"Hey," she demanded somewhat crudely when he landed in her line of vision. She didn't slow her pace and continued to approach him. "What the hell are you up to?"

Merlinite tried not to jump when she appeared, looking at her in surprise. That aura thing, man. Now that she was basically on top of him he knew that she was there and that she was stronger than him, but that was not doing him much good now. He frowned at her, for a moment, then grinned and showed her the energy he had gathered.

This thing was fun. This whole energy gathering thing. It was the best fun he had so far, and he was still new. He didn't know that it was actually just a return to old form, not through experience, but it was great to learn he had this power.

And he liked making use of it.

Draining energy was a good interview tactic. The weaker they got, the more they wanted to talk. Especially, he imagined, if he was threatening them. He hadn't put it into practice yet but if he saw someone that had something good to tell him, he'd try it.

He grinned at this new arrival though, tilting his head.

"What do you think? I'm doing my job. I guess you're doing your job too, eh? Going to stop me?" He needed to remember to ask questions, when things like this came up.

As though he had said something dreadfully insulting, Aventine huffed and stomped her foot into the ground. "Yes, I'm going to stop you. Really, did you think going around and causing trouble was going to go unnoticed? Did you think you could just go around, causing a mess, and no one was going to chase you away?"

She was just so tired of asking questions, of trying to give the benefit of the doubt and getting the short end of the stick from it. She liked to think she was capable of learning from her mistakes, and damn it—she had learned.

Make your move before they did.

On one hand, she could just try to talk him out of it. On the other hand, she could just try to scare him away from the park before he got to anyone else.

"Because, let me tell you, I am more than willing," she said—and then picked up speed as she charged towards him.

"Look at you! All spunky and dangerous!"

He laughed as she charged him, summoning his Baton after storing his energy sphere safely away for now. He would drop them off to a General later, but for now he needed to focus on this knight girl. He was more than happy for a fight, at least, not one of those pacifist types.

He could do his job, gathering energy and information, whether she was unhurt or dying on the ground. In fact, pain was often a good motivator to talk.

As she got closer he braced himself, planting his feet and getting ready for an attack. Whatever she had to fight him with, he was going to take it like a man. He knew some of these guys were strong and could do a lot of damage. Some even had weapons or magic. When she got close, though, he lunged forward to meet her, jabbing his baton forward to try and punch her in the stomach with it.

He'd ask her for her name later, maybe.

For as many hits as Aventine had taken to the stomach, she was starting to wonder if she was going to permanently mess something up in there. She grunted when his baton made contact with her stomach; his weapon gave him extra reach that she didn't have. "Cheater," she hissed, even as the breath pushed from her. For a split second she saw a flash of white, but she wasn't going to just back off without a fight. She swung her hand, curled into a fist, towards the side of his head, desperate to put a bit of distance between them so she could recalibrate, catch her breath, and come up with a new game plan.

This guy didn't run like she would have preferred, but if it was a fight he wanted, she'd give him her best. And hopefully make it out in one piece.

"How is using what I was given cheating? It's not my fault you guys don't get cool weapons to fight with! If you were on the right side of the power spectrum, maybe you'd get something cool, too." He grinned at her. He was not sure about corruption or purification yet, it was not something he had really paid attention to when he was being taught about it.

And he did not really care if they did join his side: he just wanted to beat them.

He had to pull back when she swung at him, though, and her fist caught the side of his face because of it. It stumbled him, and he jerked backwards and away with more intent on instinct. Lifting his hand to his face, he growled at her. There was no way he was going to let himself lose another fight: he needed to start being the impressive badass Lieutenant worthy of every accolade and promotion he could be given.

"You're a toughie. You out here, busting my team's chops a lot or something? I thought you good guys were supposed to be pacifists?" He grinned at her, knowing he had instigated a bit, but maybe if he kept up the questions she would give him some information he could take back to his team.

"Honey, if you wanted a pacifist, you should have bothered someone else. Just because I'm the good guy doesn't mean I'm going to sit back and let you beat the s**t out of me. Who has been giving you lessons, anyway? You seem totally uninformed." And rude, but she wasn't going to pick more of a fight. They weren't at each other's throats for the second, and that just meant she had a little extra time to prepare herself for his next attack.

Unfortunately, not fighting for her life gave her too much time to think, and he had given her a bit of food for thought.

He had a damn fine point about her weapon, and she hated how unfair it was that this guy—this lieutenant could do more damage to her than she probably could do to him. Even as a squire, her weapon hardly counted as dangerous. Sure, she could whack someone with it, but it was still glass. She'd already damaged it once before—and she didn't think she'd be as lucky in the future as she had been then.

"Right side of the power spectrum," she scoffed, "Sounds like someone's been feeding you some pretty generic lies. Because people who run around and suck out people's energy is totally the 'right side' of anything."

Merlinite grinned. He liked that answer, though there was a much older knight who would not have been as happy to hear her saying such things. But what happened when he was not paying attention or even around was not for him to know. Instead, a very eager Negaverse Lieutenant was facing a fight he could get behind.

He was going to have a lot of fun with this one, he was sure.

"So we do what we have to, to get the job done. That doesn't make us wrong, and who cares what you think, anyway? We're not afraid of our power, and we're definitely not afraid of yours!" He laughed at that, shaking his head.

Okay he was a little nervous, if only because she was higher ranked than he was, but that didn't really count for much right? He was ready for this fight and he was going to prove to her and to himself that he could manage just fine.

"What are you supposed to be, anyway? An 8 year old girl's tea party?"

"You stalling?" she prompted, taking the slightest bit of offense. An eight year old girl, really? But her outfit was so classy! Even decked out in all that pink, she'd grown rather fond of it. "Because we don't have to fight if you just politely back off. I mean, let's be realistic. I'm not going to stalk you, not gonna follow you home, and definitely not gonna come looking for you to check in. All you have to do is be a good boy, say 'Yes, Aventine, I think I'm done doing bad things for tonight so I'm just going to go home and not play big, bad lieutenant for the rest of the night. Nice to meet you, goodbye.' Or, you can say no, and I'll have to rough you up a bit until you don't want to be out any more tonight. What's it gonna be?"

"Stalling, no way!" He laughed. She was a bit too clever to easily give up any of the information he wanted, it seemed, so he would either have to be more clever in his own right, or just beat it out of her. He was not even sure what information he wanted from her, so new to it as he was. He just had this feeling that they were all holding some big secret, and it was his duty to drag it out of them.

And he would, damn it.

One by one.

"But who's to say I'm not going to do any of those things to you? I'm not worried about you White Mooners, and your fancy ideas of peace and quiet. I'm not scared of anything you guys think you're capable of, because you're not. All talk, not follow through. But you lot, you should worry about us. Because I'm never going to stop with the big bad act." He grinned at her, baton in hand. He patted it lightly against the palm of his other hand, though hard enough to make a dull thud against his palm.

He liked the sound.

"So bring it on, Barbie." He charged at her, just in case there was any doubt left in either of their minds, as far as what option he was picking went.

Aventine was definitely more afraid of the baton than she was willing to let on—but what the hell. She wasn't going to go down without a fight (and hell, she could high-tail it out of here if she had to! Right?). As the lieutenant ran at her, she primed herself; her bottle was not a weapon, but damn it if she wouldn’t find some way to hurt him with it. Whether it was meant to actually hit him or just distract him, she relinquished her clutch on the neck of the glass, aimed for a split second, and then sent the piece hurling towards him.

She didn't wait to see if it hit before she ran to meet him, swinging up her leg to try and kick him off balance.

She didn't bother to speak now; they had exchanged words and neither seemed to be budging any time soon. She wasn't going to waste her breath on him—not when he was putting up a fight like this.

She threw the thing at him! That was rude. And he was not anticipating it, so much. So when it came hurtling at his head he had little option but to get hit by it, though at least he had managed to turn his head to not take the hit directly to his face. It hit him in the side of his head instead.

He stumbled, and her kick finished the job of knocking him off his feet.

Landing on his back, he growled and opted to bring his feet up, to his chest, coiling his body and saving his power. She was close enough for him to lash out at her, kicking at her with both his feet like a spring, bursting forward quickly.

"I think someone needs to take you down a few notches," he declared, though he felt warm blood running down the side of his head as he scrambled to his feet. Had she managed to cut him? That damn bottle must have done it, obviously, since it was the only hit to his head he'd taken. That was frustrating, certainly.

Aventine stumbled back, obviously a bit out of breath. She had been hurt enough that she thought she saw stars dancing just out of her line of vision, but she wasn't down for the count just yet. "I don't need to be taken down a notch!" she snapped back, trying to suck in a large enough breath to stop the burning in her lungs. "—You do, you're the one up to no good! And look at you! Is that—wait, is that blood? You're bleeding?" she asked, not sure if she was just shocked or actually had a bit of sympathy. She hadn't been out for blood, she just wanted the guy to get out of here before he caused her or anyone else any trouble.

She wasn't sure she wanted to really fight, but she certainly jumped at the chance to urge him on his way, "You should probably head home—you know, get that checked out. You could get a concussion. Or die. And then you wouldn’t be of any good to anyone." Could you die from a perfume bottle to the head? She hoped not; she didn't want to kill him, but if he could be scared away…then she didn't have to feel bad, right? You had to risk a little bit of bruising any time you powered up—and she knew she was going to have to pack some ice on herself when she got back home, tonight.

Merlinite was doing what he could to ignore the blood on his head: he was not going to let himself be intimidated by someone in a frilly pink dress! Even if she had managed make him bleed, and was stronger than him, and could likely kick his butt.

Not intimidated.

"You think a little brat like you is going to give me a concussion? Kill me? Bull s**t! There's no way I'm going to let you run me off with one lucky hit, kid. Don't you worry about it. I'm tougher than that, and I'm going to show you."

He grinned at her. He was ready. This was what he had been hoping for. A real challenge, and someone who might even be able to tell him something he didn't know about the Knights. Which was basically everything, so he had a lot of room to work with here.

"Now, you can be a good little girl and tell me about yourself, about who or what you work for and what you're planning on doing any time you meet one of us, and I'll only rough you up a little. Tell me nothing useful, and things won't be that nice for you." He lifted up his baton to make his point, though he was feeling a little bit dizzy.

"Don't call me a brat!" She snapped; she hadn't wanted to kill him, though she was starting to think she wouldn't mind if she could at least shut him up. "—You're a brat. And I'm not obligated to tell you anything, lieutenant. If anything, you should be telling me. I'm stronger than you!"

But what did she need to know? She already knew that he was the bad guy, working for bad people, doing bad things. "I don't even know what you want to know, anyway. Not like I think you even could rough me up, not in that condition," she said, just taking another step away from him. She liked having distance between them; even if he was injured, it didn't mean she was safe from him. "Why are you fighting if you don't even know the answer to those things? I thought that was common knowledge? I'm a knight—well, I'm a Squire of Venus, Aventine. And we fight to keep the world safe? That I fight because I hate seeing people get hurt—that I hate that you don't even feel bad when you hurt people? I'm not stupid enough to tell you any grand master plans, so you're better off not even asking. Why, what are you doing, what's your purpose?"
