Personality: They say that still waters run deep, an adage that proves true when it comes to Rubati. One of the most notable things about this young Oblivionite is that she is observant. She has no trouble sitting still and sometimes she is so still and quiet it is as if she has blended into the scenery. People forget she is around and then they spill all sorts of interesting secrets without realizing there is an eavesdropper present. Rubati loves to collect little tidbits of gossip and blackmail, she loves to know and keep secrets. You never know when this sort of information might be useful. When it comes to making people believe that you are a mystical and mysterious being, it helps if they are a bit wary of you and it helps even more if you know things about them that they don't suspect. Her tendency to be quiet and to observe has served her well in life - she makes an excellent student and a great confidant. If you need to talk to someone, Rubati will be there to listen. She might not have a lot to say, but she will certainly let you talk.
Rubati is a self-serving individual. Her mother has taught her from infancy that if you want something, you can have it, and the best way to get it is to manipulate others into doing the dirty work for you. Navah never had a great deal of respect for others, and her attitude has had an influence on Rubati, who sees nothing wrong with manipulation. Additionally, Rubati was raised and indoctrinated in a community that taught her she is above all others. That her race, the Oblivionites, are superior and are, in fact, supposed to rule over the lesser races. This has created a level of entitlement within Rubati, she sees members of other races as mere tools for her own use. When it comes to the Order, Rubati is respectful and relatively well-behaved. When it comes to other Oblivionites, Rubati pretends to be respectful and well-behaved, but will often make subtle power-plays and try to put herself in a better position than whoever she is with. As far as the other races go, there are no rules as far as Rubati is concerned. Lies, manipulations, blackmail, nasty little spells - she's not above any of it.
While Rubati is self-serving, manipulative and entitled, she is not really that terrible of a person. If she makes you a promise, she will keep it regardless of the cost. Her word, when given, is her bond. She can be trusted to be discreet and she is generous where her talents are concerned. Rubati is a great person to have as an ally. While she can't be entirely trusted, she can always be counted on to preserve her own well-being, and if you fate is tied to hers she will make damn sure that you both come out of things alright.
Biography/Background: Bashir and Navah were both highly trained and skilled mages. Navah lived in a small house on the banks of one of the smaller rivers that branch into the Koralifel ocean, and when Bashir was not off adventuring and exploring he could always be found at the home of his beloved. Bashir specialized in dark magic, but also branched out to elemental magics, particularly fire. Navah, however, found that she had very little use for the vast destruction of the elemental magics and instead turned her focus on dark magic and blood magic, spending most of her time creating dark spells and potions and learning the art of conjuration.
The pair were quite content with their lives as they were. Bashir had always been a bloodthirsty man while Navah had always been much more thoughtful and reserved. He was frequently off fighting some creature or another, but he was home long enough to get Navah with child. Unfortunately, late in her pregnancy, Bashir also had the bad manners to die unexpectedly in battle. While Navah was and always had been a strong-minded and strong-willed Oblivionite, she found herself somewhat lost and lonely - she was facing motherhood for the first time and she had no one to share the responsibilities of that great undertaking with.
Unbeknownst to Navah was the fact that spies from a secret order of Oblivionites had been aware of her skills for quite some time, and they took advantage of the death of Bashir and approached Navah, offering her a place in their order an within their compound. In exchange for her loyalties and her skills with blood magic, they would provide her with a safe home and help bring up her child. They promised Navah that she would have the training of the child when it came to magic, and that was ultimately what sealed the deal for the young mother-to-be.
Navah moved to the compound where the Order of Onyx headquartered and began to settle in to her new life. She was given a small place that was distanced a bit from the main area of the compound and it was not long after she had nested that she was delivered of a daughter who she named Rubati. As an infant, Rubati was quiet and observant and Navah exposed her daughter to the workings of blood magic from infancy, not caring whether or not the girl was old enough to comprehend what was happening around her.
When Rubati was old enough, she was sent to the compound school to be educated in the ways of the Order. She spent the next part of her life being indoctrinated by the order to believe that the Oblivionites were the one supreme race in Magesc and that they alone had the capability to bring peace and prosperity through subjugating and ruling the lesser races. She also began learning the basics of dark magic and blood magic from her mother and continued to attend and observe Navah's work. While she was not permitted to create any spells herself yet, she was allowed to create the vessels for many of the spells and became quite adept at sewing the little dolls that received many of the blood-magic spells.
Rubati has only recently been formally given the status of Sigil within the Order, and she has begun formal magic training with the other Sigils as well as continuing her work at home with her mother. It has never been kept a secret that there are high expectations for Rubati. The Order expects her to become a powerful mage and serve them loyally for the duration of her life. Her mother also expects her to become a powerful mage, though her motivations might veer slightly from those of the Order's. Navah is less concerned with Rubati bringing power and success to the order and is more concerned about Rubati growing in her own power and finding her own successes in life.
Thoughts on the Great Engagement: Having been raised and indoctrinated by the Order of the Onyx, Rubati believes that it is imperative that the Oblivionites win the war so that they can take their place as shepherds of the other, lesser races. She believes that this is the only way the world might find peace.
Thoughts on the Dragons: Dragons are creatures that possess - and can therefore provide - great amounts of power. They are tools that can help Rubati and her fellow Oblivionites further their own power and obtain their goals, and as such they have value.
