It was a fairly gloomy day out, so Lemure of Love Lost had the perfect excuse to stay inside End of an Era and Taquita's bookstore all day and read. No one was going to try to force her outside to play when dark clouds were looming above. She settled into a lounge chair with a book she grabbed from the Young Adult section of the store. It was one from her usual favorite series, Nina Colt: Vampire Hunter. Although, at this point in the series, Nina didn't really hunt the vampires as much as she dated the vampires. She currently had three undead boyfriends, and two more that were werewolves. Nina also was seeing a werecougar on the side, and was debating whether or not to sleep with Connor the wereunicorn. Lemure was rooting for Connor to be the chief boyfriend, and was hoping the next book that came out would center on her romance with him. He was by far the dreamiest of the group. She sighed and sunk deeper into the chair. Today was going to be a nice, quiet, peaceful, faux-romance filled day.

Red Velvet was outside with her bag and galoshes. And umbrella in her one hoof.
"Are you sure you don't wanna come Snaps?"
Snaps simply glared at Red Velvet and quickly dashed in before any droplets landed on Snaps' fur. "Oh your no fun p ussy cat!"
Red Velvet ventured forward into the new day...gloomy as it seems. "I wonder if my friends are out to play?"~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After a short while Red Velvet has her head slump forward in an utter defeat, her umbrella up while the rain falls.
None of her friends wanted to play in the rain, thinking her a little weird for wanting to play in the rain.
"Is it so hard? I don't see anything wrong with wanting to be in and play in the rain."
Red Velvet wondered by the river side and then headed back to town. "Now what am I suppose to do now?"
Red Velvet then pulled up short next to a bookstore. "Heck. Maybe they have some good books in here."
She wondered in and placed her umbrella in a rack near the door. "Hello? Anyone in here?"((OMG. I want to read the book Lemure is reading!))

The bells on the shop rang, and Lemure heard a voice asking if anyone was around. She glanced around the shop. It was empty. Usually her moms were around during open hours, but they must have snuck off somewhere to do something more exciting. This meant that she was unwillingly and unknowingly put in temporary charge of the store. She set down her book, slowly pried herself off of the comfortable chair, and made her way over to the front door to greet the potential customer. Connor's glistening horn would have to wait. "Hello," she said with a polite grin while trying to remember her customer service manors, "It's awfully horrible out today, isn't it? You must have really wanted a book to come out in this weather. Was there anything I could help you find?"

Red Velvet's eyes widen. Wow! What a beautiful phony! She has this....ethereal appearance. She quickly shook her head to make herself stop gawking and remembered what the Phony had to say.
"It's not terrible outside. I actually love the rain." Red Velvet looked around the place. To her right now, it kinda look scary, but when the sun is shining, she bet this place was a refuge for a quiet place.
She knows that this would be the place to go to to escape from her siblings.
"As for the book, I guess it's pure chance. All my friends didn't want to play in the rain so I happen by the place and thought that a book would do the trick to save me from boredom. So whatever you choose, would be fine with me!"
She went closer towards the phony and held out her hoof. "Name's Red Velvet. What's your's?"
Red Velvet then realized that there was mud prints over her hoof and then went to wipe it on a cloth in her bag, then held out her hoof again.

Lemure stiffened as Red Velvet pulled in close. She backed away slightly, forcing her customer service smile larger to compensate for her discomfort. The filly was not used anyone being that near her other than family. Most customers in the store stayed in their own little personal bubbles and didn't want even talk let alone shake hooves. Keeping her manors in mind, she extended a translucent hoof in return. "I'm Lemure of Love Lost; my mothers had a flare for names, but it's a bit of a mouthful, so you can just call me Lemure." She wasn't sure what to recommend for Red Velvet, so she decided to probe some, "What type of books to you usually read? Do you have a favorite genre or series? We stock a lot of different types of things here, so we're sure to have something you like."

Red Velvet then turned to the right and looked down the aisles of books.
"I'm not really sure. I came here on a whim when my friends wouldn't play with me in the rain."
She started to walk down and look at the books. "Any joke books?"

"Joke books? We have a comedy section over here for those; follow me." Lemure led Red Velvet down a maze of isles until they came to bookshelf lined with all sorts of silly sounding titles. She scanned over them: 101 Phony Jokes, Are You Serious?!: The Best QC Mishaps, Bad as I Wanna Be: The Story of TACO, A Book Like Pun Other: Names That Make You Smile, Not So Classic Phony-Tales... Finally, her hoof settled on one of them: A Horse Walks into a Bar: Adult Jokes for C*cktail Parties. Lemure blushed. This was the one that most Phonies that came in here bought, but she wasn't sure she should be looking at it. Sure, she had snuck a peek a couple times she was restocking it, and it "just happened" to fall open, but she had never dared to page though it. With her moms preoccupied, she knew this was her chance. Besides, it couldn't be any dirtier than the romance books she was already reading. She read a couple and snickered. "Here, this might be what you're looking for."

Red Velvet looked at her new friend's face. She had a glint of mischief in her and it was a welcome thought.
Red Velvet thought she would never see another emotion from her.
She smiled back and bounced towards her. "And what kind of book is that?"
She then stood behind her, looking over her shoulder.

Lemure grinned and snorted. "I... I can't say it out loud! You have to read it!" She kept laughing as she pushed the book into Red Velvet's face. This day had turned out a lot better than she thought it could. Laughing was way more fun than sitting and moping around.

Red Velvet looked through the book and frowned. As she tried to read, she didn't understand half of these jokes. So when she looked at Lemure, she paused. She was laughing....Red Velvet smiled. Even though she doesn't get it and Lemure did, it was fun to see her laugh. So she joined in as well, and laughed with her friend Lemure.

"Thank you for coming in today! I really mean it!" Lemure said smiling. Usually she had mastered the way of saying "have a good day" that it really sounded like "get out of my store right now", but this was a genuine thanks. Laughing with a new friend was way better than spending the day alone. "Come back anytime!"
