Location: In her shared apartment with Misty
A short while later, Misty emerged from her bedroom, still dressed in her pajamas. She moved from her doorway to the balcony that served as the second floor hallway. Doors lined the wall to the left of her, and to the right was the large wooden balcony that led to a spiral staircase. Over the railing, the first floor of the apartment could be seen, as well as the large, wall-sized windows that stretched across the room. The entire apartment complex was modern, and could easily be mistaken for one of the shiny glass covered business towers that was deeper inside of the city. Because of this... each apartment room had one wall that gave the perfect view of the park and surrounding city.
Looking over the balcony, Misty found her roommate standing in front of the large window in the living room area. She looked out the window, and noted that the skyline was different again. She wasn't back home... she wasn't in her own city. She just... had a bit more of her home make it to this world. New world. Scarlet must have JUST realized that things were different herself.
Frowning, Misty moved towards the spiral staircase, pressing a few buttons on her phone. As she walked, she would call a number that she had saved to her phone, and listen. Then hang up after a moment, then try another number. She did this until she made her way to the living room and stopped. The chill of the lower floor sending a small shiver down her back. The upper floor was usually at a nice temperature. The main floor, Scarlet liked to keep nice and cool. Chilly when you first get out of bed.
One full wall of the room was glass; large windows that stretched to the second floor. Giving a full view of the city around them. What “wall” lay between the large windows was steel and painted white. The rest of the walls around the room were also white, making the entire room bright from the light coming in from the large windows. The floor was wooden, with a leopard print carpet spread across the middle of the room. On top of the carpet was a large white table, with red and black sofas facing a large tv mounted on the wall. Behind them, was the dining room. Across from that, was the kitchen. To one side of the TV, was the door that went to the bathroom. On the other side of that, was the metal spiral staircase that Misty had just walked down.
“This... this is different. Why is this all different” Scarlet asked, noting that Misty was finally up and about.
“Trust me... this is mild compared to the fist time I was tossed into a new universe.” Misty replied, moving towards the black sofa to sit down.
“The first time...” Scarlet asked, glancing back at Misty.
“I know... I didn't think there COULD be a “second time”.... but apparently there is.”“Is... isn't there someone we can talk to about this? Surely there's some hero or being around that can-”“Suppose that will be on today's agenda. For now...let's just get the morning started on an easy note.” Misty replied, hanging up and dialing another number. Then hanging up again.
“What are you doing?” Scarlet asked.
“Seeing if anyone else has made it here...” Misty replied, pressing the buttons again and then putting the phone to her ear. “Seven numbers and nothing so far.”
“....Maybe it's just us...” Scarlet said uneasily.
Misty frowned and shifted her weight onto the edge of the couch. That's when she heard the all-too-familiar Maryland twang though her phone.
"Hey, Mist'. Long time, no talk."There was a long pause from her end of the phone, as her brain tried to register who was on the other end of the phone. Last she knew... she didn't even KNOW his number... let alone have it on speed dial. She blinked, looked down at her phone, and double checked the name on the screen. It... it WAS him. Quickly, she placed the phone back to her ear.
“C.J.? Er... hi. I... I'm sorry to call you so randomly like this.” she finally replied.
“I'm just... I-I'm going through the list of numbers on my phone and you're the first person who's answered.” she said. Then she shifted in the couch to turn and look out the large window.
“I just... things have been turned upside down again, and I'm just trying to find out who all is still around. It's... it's been a crazy morning. Have you noticed that the cities have been moved around again? Or... just moved around?” she said. Then she sighed and grumbled the next bit to herself.
“God I don't even know what time you're from...” she said, then shifted again.
After all... she woke up in her old apartment with her old team mate as though she had never left her universe. Except of course for the bit Scarlet had told her about briefly dating CJ. That had never happened in her world. Heck... none of this had happened in her world. The last time she had seen CJ was just... just a few hours ago. She'd managed to escape from Fisk the second time he had captured her and... and then she woke up here
Blinking, she took a quick glance back at Scarlet. Who was now staring back at her with an arched brow.
… should have taken this to her room or something. Crud.
"Nah, it's alright . . . well, Arell and I are still here. (Well mostly. We FINALLY got rid of that gator thing.) Haven't seen Dun' since he got his new job. Blue something. Blue Light-post sounds about right." C.J. explained, then his phone shifted a bit.
"Time frame? It's still May-something. Gotham's still here, New York's still across the bay . . . and I heard the other day Cobble-somethin's got his place open again. Not sure if he kept that whole ice-thing going, we broke up . . . got fired, Arell doesn't remember things since the big freakin' light when we story-jumped, but that's about it." he said, casually throwing in that last bit like nothing happened.
Misty sighed lightly.
“Yeah, I... I woke up in my old apartment building. The one I used to have while I was in my nice, normal little universe. And saying my universe is normal is extremely hard to even believe but...” she said, then paused as she noticed something out of the corner of her eye.
Scarlet had moved from the window, and had now planted herself in the red chair right next to Misty. Still staring at her with an arched brow. The look she usually gave someone when they were doing something romantically stupid.
Misty placed her hand over the bottom half of her cell phone and looked over at her.
“We'll talk later...” she muttered.
Scarlet simply arched her brow a little higher at her.
Misty sighed and turned back to her phone.
“The last... the last thing I remember, Fisk had sent someone after me again and grabbed me from the train yard. I had just... phoned in a favor, so to speak, and had gotten myself out of Fisk's building. Then... I woke up in my old bed, my old roommate came in and woke me up, then thought I was crazy until she couldn't get ahold of anyone, and noticed some of the Gotham buildings. Then realized some of the buildings here in New York are completely new to her.” she said.
Scarlet coughed pointedly.
“Blaming this on me, are you?”Misty shifted and used her hand to try and wave her off.
“She also said that we had been dating, and then she never heard anything more about it. But, she doesn't know anything about Gotham, or this “new” New York, or anything outside the world I knew a few years ago. And yet us dating had been a thing, but, you're not part of my Universe. At least.. I don't think you are. And the last thing I remember was getting out of Fisks, and I'm nowhere near being pregnant all of a sudden, and...ugh... it's giving me a headache.” she said, sighing again.
“I'm sorry. I don't... anything past getting myself out of Fisks hasn't happened for me yet. But.. at least I remember who you are this time.” she continued, a small smile in her voice. Then she paused, and the smile vanished.
“I'm... I'm assuming I'm the reason you were fired. That woman did create a lot of trouble... I'm assuming I'm the reason we broke up too. I mean... you rescued me multiple times within the spanse of a day.”"Well that's good that you remembered me this go 'round." CJ replied .
"Don't take it so hard, hon. Didn't have anything to do with that. Circus got sold to a firm (I think. Damn writer) and our jobs weren't needed really. Still keep in touch with everyone." he said, then paused a moment to wave off someone else himself.
"Well, that and the whole 'mobsters came for Arell and I about the same time Fisk's men came for YOU' thing. Once we got outta that we just . . . decided to go on break. I think. Tell y'what. We're still waiting for the rest of the band to get here. Why don'tcha come by and we can catch up?" he asked.
“Oh, well... sure.” Misty replied, mood taking a slightly better turn. “I'd lo-” she began, then Scarlet began muttering something. Misty only catching that she could hear everything that CJ was saying and this was far from a good idea.
Again, Misty tried to wave her off.
“.... I... yeah. I'd like that. Just lemme know where you're at and I'll be down.” she said.
“Oh, no. No, no. We're not having another Alan episode. We're not having another John episode. You're not going to meet up with an old flame. Again. Not happening.” Scarlet growled.
Misty covered the bottom of her phone and grumbled back to her.
“Nothing is going to happen.”“Knowing you? My pretty little a** it won't. You want to go down there, I'm coming with you.” Scarlet huffed.
“..... you won't drop it either, will you?” Misty grumbled.
“Nope. I'll go back into hunting mode if I need to.”“Fine... but if you scare him off, I swear...”“Now when have I ever done that?” Scarlet asked with a grin.
Misty sighed then turned back to her phone.
“....WE will be over rather. My roommate likes to play Den Mother and Match Maker. She won't be much of a bother though. If you have... band members you're waiting on, I'm sure she'll make a new friend real soon.” There was a small snap as Scarlet shot her hair band at Misty's shoulder, and Misty chuckled slightly.
“Well you will...” she said, looking over at Scarlet with a grin.
C.J. chuckled a little bit.
"Sounds good! The big dude and I are at Pierside Joe's. Kind of a dive, but the burgers are alright." he said. Then the other man said something, and CJ muttered to him again.
"Sounds good. I haven't eaten yet, so I'll hold you to the burger thing." Misty replied, a light smile in her voice. Then she stopped as Scarlet jumped from her chair and ran towards the door next to the dining room. She muttered something to herself and soon vanished inside her own bedroom. She chose the spare room on the first floor, simply because she liked having the AC running constantly. Misty, on the other hand, did not. Easier to let all the heat rise and stay on the upper floor than rack up the electric bill that Scarlet would have been forced to pay off.
Misty sighed lightly into the phone.
"We'll have to get ready to come down. I'll let you go and... see you when we get there.""Sounds good. My treat, so don't worry 'bout buyin'." CJ replied.
"Sounds good. Y'all drive safe, a'right? Take it easy." he said and hung up.
Misty hung up her phone and smiled lightly to herself. Then she paused for a second and looked down at her pajamas. A moment later she bolted from the sofa and hurried back up the stairs to change.
