With the completion of Day 1, strength and weaknesses began to emerge. It was clear not all were suited to Stealth... perhaps some would find their calling in Combat? The training was located in the fields outside Trine with a practice field for the humans and the skies above for any dragons seeking to hone their skills. Veterans and survivors alike stood ready to mentor the fresh meat in the hopes of giving them an edge in the Missions.
As before, everyone needs to roll 3d100s in a single post. However, if you exceeded 80 on any of the skills from Stealth for the chosen character, you may reroll for 1 skill - whatever the new number is sticks even if it is lower then before. It also stays in the skill set you chose it for, it cannot be moved.
Combat Training For Hand-to-Hand combat, basic techniques like punches, blocks, and movement are taught so that a violent situation does not catch the individual off guard. Those who do well will be shown grabs and grapples.
For Human-to-Creature Combat, knowing how to move and what blindspots there are on Tunnel Snakes, Whers, and Dragons is highly important since the creatures often outpower the humans they are facing and dealing a crushing blow may save a man’s life. Opportunistic attacks are featured here and may be terms dirty fighting by some.
For Group Combat, learning to coordinate attacks and defensive movements with a group and against a group are incredibly important. Learning to work as a team is featured here.

Combat was not Etasha's specialty. She would rather be fighting smart than locked in close hand-to-hand; as far as she was concerned, if the blades had come out then she was already at a disadvantage given her small size and rather delicate build.
As expected, she fared rather better in the human-to-creature combat, striking at weak points and blind spots, and in the group fighting where she could coordinate and support a stronger partner. Teamwork had never been an issue for Etasha. Coryxoth watched curiously from a short distance away, occasionally moving in to help her with practicing a particular human-against-dragon move.

Combat. Finally something that was right up C'ross' alley.
He was a former guard, and while he might have been a little rusty thanks to his abrupt switch from Benden to Trine a year back and the accompanying chaos that had gone with it, he was still a strong young man with excellent coordination and some hand-to-hand fighting experience.
He made a beeline directly for the one-on-one matches, moving swiftly through the blocks and strikes and into the grapples and throws. His height and weight assisted him, naturally, but he also knew how to use that muscle effectively, keeping his balance and acting defensively rather than offensively. From there he moved to the group fighting; his performance there was perhaps less spectacular, but primarily because you didn't show off when you were fighting in a group. Again, this was something he'd learned as a guard: you coordinated with your unit, and only moved as fast as the slowest man there. Never leave a man behind.
The human versus creature, however, was a new one. And it was... well, a little distressing to C'ross, who spent much of the first half of the day concerned that he would somehow send Nimith between if he got too aggressive with it. Punching humans was one thing. Learning how to disable and possibly kill someone's bond-partner... Well, now that C'ross had one of his own, it felt rather like learning how to gut a man alive. A cruel and gruesome way to go.

((rerolling for C'ross, human-to-creature - 81 on stealth))
As the day progressed, however, he lost some of his squeamishness... thanks in no small part to Nimith finally speaking up and letting C'ross know that he was perfectly fine, thank you, and that it would be far more dangerous to their bond for him not to know how to disable an angry wher coming at them.
Right. Whers could harm people. Dragons could only harm other dragons, but whers could kill a man with a single snap of those big ugly jaws. Better for him to learn now where the blind spots and vulnerable parts were of those tough hides. He didn't have to like the thought of hurting a dragon, but it was a necessary component of self-defense.

V'lay, Day Two - Combat Hand-to-Hand: 32 58 Human-to-Creature: 72 Group: 37
---
V'lay wasn't interested in combat training. He had enough under his own belt to know how to throw punches, and when he arrived for the one-on-one training, he was barely present, not particularly interested in being instructed on something he already knew how to do by riders he didn't respect. V'lay wasn't in this to make Trine look good, and he wasted little time showing off. He wasn't here to impress anyone - and he wasn't there to work with anyone, either. His group combat was similarly dismal, this time out of genuine inability to work with those around him. V'lay wasn't interested in working with a pack of Trine riders, and those Benden refugees who had come...well, they were an embarrassment.
Human-to-wher combat, though...V'lay had experience, experience he didn't mind showing off and sharing, if it meant that some wherholders might lose their bondmates between because of something he helped with. He still wasn't trying overly-hard, but he was competent enough. There was no need to show off now. The time would come in the future when it would be necessary, but right now was not it. Right now was for showing you knew how to get in a wher's blind spot, and where to stab if you got the chance, not for flourishes.

((rerolling for Etasha, hand-to-hand - 86 on stealth))
Etasha was not, however, content to simply write off the hand-to-hand combat as a hopeless cause and focus on group tactics. After a frustrating morning, she cornered one of the instructors in the afternoon and asked for some techniques specifically designed to favor agility and balance over brute force.
It wasn't easy, and by the end she still wasn't quite as competent as some of those who'd come in with combat experience under their belts. But she felt a bit better about it than she had before.

---
Maybe he was just refreshed by the human-to-creature combat, but after a stint working with some of the other riders, he was more inclined to give the one-on-one practice a try. He still wasn't invested, but at least his form was better. Not as good as some of the younger riders - but nothing he did was as good as some of the youngers. V'lay wasn't young anymore, simple as that.
