Welcome to Camp Nanowrimo!

Camp National Novel Writing Month

This summer we will embark on the adventure of a lifetime. In July, writers all over the word will set a word count goal for themselves. Typically the goal for nanowrimo is 50 000 words, but during camping season you are allowed to pick whichever goal suits your writing capabilities. The point of this delightful camping excursion is to achieve what you have never achieved before. You can explore new literary places, or motivate yourself to continue along with old favourites.

My name is Talia Delune, and I will be your Gaian camp leader throughout the months of June and July.

Yes I know, Camp National Novel Writing Month doesn't start until July, but June is equally as important. During June you will pack your bags with as much creativity as you can. Planning will start, characters will come to life, and worlds will slowly build themselves. Hopefully by the end of June you will have chosen your team and befriended some of your fellow campers.

Wait, team? What team?

Camp Nanowrimo isn't the only camp starting in July. Unfortunately we have already missed the official National Poem writing Month (occurred in April), but lucky enough for all the poets in the guild, All the Write Reasons will be launching their own camp version of National Poem Writing Month along side Camp Nanowrimo. Evil Emperor Ecchimaru, the gaian camp leader for National Poem Writing Month), and I have decided that a little friendly competition never hurt anyone. In fact we though it would be a great way to motivate each other by having teams set up. Us novelist campers will go toe to toe with the poet campers. OBVIOUSLY, we're going to win, but for some reason Evil Emperor Ecchimaru thinks they have a fighting chance. Pur-lease. Clearly they don't know who they're messing with...

So come guys- let's cheer each other on, and show them want we're made of!

.... Oh, and can someone remember to bring stuff for smores? I like smores.

Tips and Tricks

For Camp Nanowrimo

-Try to have as much planned out as you can. Churning out your world goal
will be difficult if you aren't prepared for what you're about to write

-Keep your notes on hand while you write

-Don't be afraid to change your concept. Things change- fighting it will only frustrate you

-Keep a certain time set aside each day for writing.

-If you find yourself incapable of writing large amounts in one sitting, try to break up your writing periods.

-Don't worry about editing while you write- it'll slow you down. You also risk deleting everything you've worked so hard on.

-Quality vs Quantity: Nanowrimo isn't about the quality of your work, it's about the quantity so in relation to the tip stated above, don't focus too much on the quality you're producing

-If you find yourself experiencing writer's block, take a break and re-visit your plans

-Always try to achieve more than your daily intended word count goal. This will give you cushion room for if you miss a day

-Keep and thesaurus, and dictionary on hand

-Save frequently, and back up your work

-Reward yourself! Give yourself some sort of incentive to keep writing

-Make sure your writing space is comfortable, and secluded so you don't find yourself distracted

-If you ever have questions, don't be afraid to ask your guild teammates!

Dates to Remember

Note: In honour of Camp Nano/Napo, a subforum will be created specifically for the two campgrounds. During the next couple of months feel free to participate in thread flipping frenzies(just don't try to flip the stickies)! Points will be awarded to the camp who flips the most- so cheer for your team as much as you can!

June 30: Camp kick off party! Meet in the guild chat space at 8pm ET!

July 1: First day of Camp Nanowrimo and Camp Napowrimo

July 5: Camp write in event (all campers meet in the campground subforum to write along side each other)

July 15: Halfway party! Meet in the guild chat space at 8pm ET!

July 25: Camp write in event (all campers meet in the campground subforum to write along side each other)

July 31: Last day of Camp Nanowrimo and Camp Napowrimo

August 1: Closing party! Meet in guild chat space at 8pm ET!

✔ Campers must complete the most they can in their camp (whether it be word goal or the poem a day challenge)

✔ Campers must show spirit. Can your cheer the loudest?

✔Campers must support their teammates. Imagine tug-o-war- can your team work together, and pull the hardest?
