Life was boring.
Maua glanced around nervously, feeling the eyes of several of her pridemates on her. She hadn't been in the pride long- just a few days, really, and while everyone was generally very nice to her, no one had really approached her and tried to befriend her. Not that she had tried with anyone, either. She wasn't used to so many others being around her, and the entire experience was a bit overwhelming so far.
She lay down, stretching her front limbs and releasing a small yawn. At least she felt safe here; being out in the Rogue lands meant she always slept with one eye open. Here, she could rest well knowing that despite how new she was, her pride would be there for her, and she would be there for them.
Now if she just didn't feel so... alone.
A beetle ran across her paw and she batted at it playfully like a cub. Is this seriously what I've come to? she thought, but continued her game, swatting at the insect, letting it get to the point where it was almost free before batting at it again. Cajanic Whew! I hope that was alright? ;u;

Shangwe moved carefully as he made his way over the pridelands, deciding it would be a good day to just avoid hunting. There were plenty of other hunters, and food was not something they needed to worry about. As much as he loved a good hunt, he just wasn't feeling up for one. Mostly because he was still injured from his last hunting attempt. He remembered it well- the cracked rib he was nursing was more than enough of a reminder. It hurt like a fire burning just under his chest, making each step a painful one to have to deal with. Still, he was not going to let it ruin his mood. He even managed a smile when he saw a pretty purple lioness playing with a bug not too far from her. "Hello," he offered the female as he made his way closer, sitting with a wince not too far from her, "are you new here? I don't think I've seen you around these parts before. It's a pleasure to meet you- I'm Shangwe."

The lioness's ears perked at the voice of the male lion. She placed a paw over the beetle, feeling it squirm for a second before she released it, realizing he was talking to her.
She stared at him for a minute before responding. "O-oh, me? I actually just joined the pride not too long ago.. My name is Maua." A small, shy smile spread across her face.
Wanting him to stay, she continued. "It's very nice here. I'm glad I was given the chance to join. Have you been a part of the pride long?" As she spoke, she began to relax, enjoying the socialization. She hadn't talked this much since she had joined.

Shangwe smiled pleasantly. "ah, Maua! That's a lovely name. I'm happy to meet you, Maua." He liked it- it was like his, in a way. Not one that lended well to nicknames. A weird thing he liked to think about. But it was more than that. In generally, he just liked the way it sounded. Learning new names was always a precursor to good things, so he was happy no matter what they sounded like. Since he had already introduced himself, he listened as she asked him about how long he had been in the pride. Chuckling lightly, he nodded. "Oh yes, a very long time," he replied lightly, "I was born and raised in this pride, and it is very dear to me. So I'm happy that we can share this wonderful place with new members like you. if you need anything, I hope you'll let me know- I would be happy to help you if I can." She looked happy, but he wondered if it was because she was in the pride, or because she was speaking to him. Being new was a little intimidating, he had seen. Was she lonely? "Did you join with anyone else, or on your own? Of course, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to."

Maua's smile grew as she listened to him talk. He had a pleasant voice, and seemed genuinely interested in her. Her tail tapped the ground softly behind her as she replied.
"You're very sweet," she started, enjoying his compliment. She couldn't remember the last time someone had been so polite to her. "I joined alone. I had been travelling by myself in the Rogue Lands for a very long time. I met a small group during my travels and they pointed me in the direction of this pride... so I took a chance and appealed to join." Her smile faded a bit as she thought about desperate she had been to join, to find a place to call home. She met eyes with Shangwe and her smile returned fully. "It's nice to feel safe. Everyone's been very welcoming so far."
She straightened up a bit, clearing her throat. "Enough about boring old me, though. What was it like growing up in the pride? I-If you don't mind me asking."

"Yes, welcoming we are! I hope you find your happiness here- this pride is a wonderful place, though I know sometimes it can be a little intimidating just trying to settle in all on your own. If you need a place to stay, my den is plenty big enough for company." He would be happy to help her, since he wasn't even sure if she had found a den for herself of not. Even if she had, maybe knowing she could go somewhere else for a visit would help her feel more welcomed. He didn't dislike the idea of being near her some more, anyway. when she asked about him, he smiled. "I don't mind at all! I had a lot of fun growing up here. My siblings and I always went on some pretty crazy adventures. It was amazing we didn't end up getting ourselves seriously injured sometimes," he chuckled, "but that's the fun of being young, isn't it? Learning your limits and pushing past them anyway." He chuckled lightly. Yes, he did indeed love his home. "Oh, and for the record- I don't find you boring at all. So are you a hunter here, too? It's sort of the starting point for all of us, I think."

The lioness listened intently, not missing a word. At his invitation, her eyes widened a bit. She had been sleeping outside, unsure of where else to go. No one had really gone over the basics with her, and she hadn't wanted to ask and seem like an idiot.
Her tail curled towards him and she replied, "Yes I am. I've gone hunting a couple of times, actually. I enjoy it; it's thrilling and I feel good about providing for the pride." She chuckled to herself quietly. It seemed silly, almost, how much she enjoyed just being part of the pride.
"I'd love to hear more about yourself... what about your family? How many siblings do you have? Any... cubs of your own?" She tilted her head, hoping he wouldn't find her to be too intrusive.

Shangwe laughed. "I feel the same when I go hunting! We'll have to go sometime together- I would be happy to see what you're made of!" he teased lightly. He was sure she was perfectly good at hunting- probably better than he was. But he didn't think he was amazing, of course, he just liked doing it. It wasn't about who had the best skills for him, just how much fun his fellow lions were having while out on the job. He wouldn't trade his job for anything in the world. "More about me?" Shangwe hummed, "Oh, well, there's not much to say, really. There was a few of us. We all lived happily here, but now some have moved on to other things or have hidden themselves away. I don't see my family much," he sighed faintly, though her last question made him smile again. "Cubs of my own? no, no cubs yet. Perhaps some day, though. What about you?"

The lioness laughed. "I think you'd be pretty surprised! I'm one awesome hunter!" She couldn't wipe the smile from her face. The male's playful teasing was nice. Fun. Refreshing, even. She nodded slowly, listening closely to his response to her question. When it became her turn to answer, she chuckled lightly. "I don't have any, either. I would like to have a litter one day, though. Maybe more. I'm a bit old fashioned, I suppose. I believe in love before cubs." In her travels, she had encountered many females with young ones who had had "flings" with males just to have children. It saddened her every time. Her mother had done the same, and when she was younger, she often wondered about her mysterious father. "What's your favorite thing to do, Shangwe?" she blurted, wanting to change the subject before she got emotional.

Bittersweet Candies (I figure we can wrap up with your next post) Shangwe smiled. "that is something I believe, as well- I don't think you can have cubs if you're not in love with the lion you're with! I definitely want a mate who will stay by me so we can raise a family together." He smiled at the thought, sighing softly. Yes, it would be nice to have a little family one day, with cubs keeping him on his paws. Being a father sounded very appealing, if he was totally honest. smiling still, he was a little surprised by her sudden question, though he wasn't one to complain. He took the hint a dropped the subject. "Me? Well, hunt, I'd say," he chuckled lightly, "but I also really enjoy getting to know new pride members." He winked at her at that, grinning from ear to ear. "Why don't we go grab something to eat and we can talk more? I've very happy we have had this chance to talk, and I'm just selfish enough to keep you longer, if you'll allow it."

Maua's smile mirrored Shangwe's, a chuckle escaping her lips. He had something about him that was infectious, and she loved it. "I suppose I'd like to be a bit selfish and keep you longer myself." Her eyes shone, extremely pleased that she had found someone that enjoyed being around her, and that she enjoyed being around in turn. She stood, her tail swishing back and forth, and waited for her companion. She was sure she could find plenty to talk about to keep him around longer.
