Fishing was never his strong suit.
Heiko glared at the scaled, finned creatures with a new loath he hadn’t experienced before, a new inspiration for catching the buggers igniting. Oh no, this wasn’t about food anymore. This was war. Crouching low, he gave a viscous growl before pouncing at a particular silvery fish who had been just out of his reach.
”It’s taunting me!” Heiko hissed, spinning around at the laughter. His snowy pal, Leli, laid lazily in the shallowest part of the river, watching with a mirthful gaze. The pink leopard gave him a sour look, drenched. His luck was not working with him.

”They’re… fish.” Leli pointed out with a gentle smile, before bending his head and lapping up some water. Oh yes, it was hot, but the weather was making it almost durable. Ever since he started to make the occasional trip down in the rogue lands, searching for… something, he made sure to get in contact with Heiko and relax. Of course, somewhere very cool and with an abundance of water. He feared he wouldn’t be able to survive without it. His smile widened at Heiko’s glare, before looking over at his companion, Pisha, who was happily splashing in the water. The hare looked up at the feeling of being watched, made a point to glare, if half-heartedly, before continuing to look for smooth stones.

”I bet these fish think like anyone else does.” Heiko snapped, irritable. He was usually this high strung. But, as it was, hunger and a lion who refused to do anything but lay around instead of help was starting to grate on his nerves just a bit. ”If you would help, we wouldn’t have missed breakfast and could be eating lunch by now.” The leopard noticed the shrug from his friend and threw up his hands. Finally, he swung to look at Pisha. ”You agree with me, don’t you?”

”I’m not inclined to agree with anything, Master Heiko.” Pisha said stiffly, settling him with a glare before turning it on Leli. ”I highly doubt the rest of the council will agree to your constant disappearances.”
Leli grimaced, sparing a glance at the pink leopard, before sighing and smiling at his uptight hare. ”Trust me, my dear. I simply can’t ignore…” he gave a hesitant look at Heiko before looking back at Pisha. ”what I saw.” Leli smiled good-heartedly at the confused leopard.

Council? Curiosity nagging at the back of his head, Heiko smiled innocently and strolled over to where Leli was laying, looking as though he caught a bird. Plopping down in the water next to Leli, he leaned over, eyes narrowed. ”Spill.” he demanded sweetly, crossing one paw over the other before leaning back. ”Are you in some trouble with the council? And what did you see? A murder?” Heiko considered that thought. If that was the case, he best not hang around the lion too much; he didn’t want to get be a casualty. Friend or not, he was rather young and just didn’t feel like dying for someone else.

The lion blinked as the leopard sauntered over, eyes narrowing slightly in suspicion. When he leaned over, the light blue feline gave an absent smile. ”Yes.” he answered before sighing, hanging his head. He really didn’t like outsiders to know about his affiliation and position with his pride. But… Heiko had saved him and was rapidly becoming one of his closest friends. He decided to tell him; he doubted the leopard would blab it to anyone else. ”Well, it just so happens that I’m on the Ice Council.” he explained , watching the fish swim by.

Heiko blinked. The Ice Council? His jaw dropped. If Leli meant council like he thought it meant, then… ”So, you’re pretty high up there, huh? How many others are there? Is there someone above you?” Heiko asked in pure curiosity before realizing how suspicious he sounded. He back pedaled a bit. ”That is, if you want to share. I’ve… never been apart of a group; pride, colony, anything. All I really travel with is a close friend, Lishilo. So, hearing about these things fascinate me.” Heiko explain sheepishly. ”Of course, you don’t have to.” he stated quickly.

Leli threw back his head and laughed. Pisha, on the other hand, glared at Heiko as she settled down on the lion’s back to keep her eyes on him and to hear better. She was distrusting by nature… it took forever to gain her trust and convince her to be by his side. ”Oh, I’m not that high up.” Leli corrected. ”Above me is the Yeti King, Lady Yeti, and their children.” he explained, lapping up some more water. Once he was satisfied, he lifted his head again and continued. ”I’m also one of four on the Ice Council. We… are the King’s advisors, so to speak.”

Heiko nodded, before giving a weird look. ”Did you witness something bad?” he whispered, a look of concern on his face. He decided to explain just what he meant. ”You said you saw something.” Heiko explained, frowning. He looked up at the sour hare; perhaps the angry hare had something to do with it. However, Heiko realized the time. ”Ah crap! You know what? Tell me next time! I gotta head back… I was supposed to bring back food.” the leopard glanced over at the swimming fish and grimaced. ”Maybe I’ll find something on the way.” Heiko considered dryly.

Leli blinked before standing up. He quickly shook off the water before stepping out of the shallow water. ”I’ll tell you next time, then.” He said with a soft smile. ”Please, be safe.” Pisha sniffed, looking away. She hopped off of Leli’s back and headed to a spot a little away from the river, gathering the neatly folded scarf. The lion walked over to her, allowing her to jump onto his back. He was basking in the slight chill of the water but was quickly warming up; he needed to get back to his pride, pronto. ”I’ll get in contact with you when I’m in the rogue lands again. Be safe, my friend.” And, with that, they parted ways.
