Darrian had just finished helping Damir with some chores as he returned back to the little glade he had made a home of with a very important mare. Although her foals had already grown, Erumara had stuck around since her foals had grown calling it home, they always came back. Dar was glad that she had decided to stick around, he had grown quite fond of her, but there was still a particular matter he had on his mind. Making his way back slowly, he gave himself time to think. Once he broke the clearing, he saw her there, and just as she had that first time, Erumara took his breath away. He nickered a greeting before trotting over, his wings fanned out cooling himself down. "Morning, Erumara."

Erumara raised her head at the noise. She smiled at Darrian. “Good morrow to you as well Darrian.” She nodded her head and stretched her legs before standing up her tail flicked as she adjusted her wings. She looked at him calmly. “Finished patrol or help with others?” She never really knew what Darrian was up to and never asked him for specifics. After all he had never bothered her with a number of things that he had every right to ask her. So kind and gentle she was glad to know him. He have been like a father to her foals and even though she had explained he was not their true sire she encouraged them to be honest with him and look on him as a kind of father so that they might have a good experience to look at rather than the nightmare was their birth father.

Bringing his wings back and tucking them against his back, Dar dipped his head in greeting. "I ran patrol first before pulling a wagon thing around helping Aila." He trotted into the shade, the sun was starting to get higher into the sky. "What have you got planned for the day?" He asked her, making small talk. Darrian's tail flicked nervously and he found it hard for him to stand still.

Nodding she accepted his day. “Well I should go for a walk, but I have nothing specific planned.” She never really did. Just savoring the peace she found here was enough for her. She had seen the humans here but never bothered coming closer. She supposed she should someday but a part of her still held back from the joy life had offered her before her trip down south. “Perhaps you’d join be for a stroll if you are not to tired from your labors?”

Darrian nodded his agreement as he trotted the rest of the way to her. "Are you feeling up to a flight? I was thinking of going to the lake soon, we could just have a short flight over there if you feel up to it." He suggested. She didn't fly much, although her wings were large enough that they should support her slight frame. He wondered if they had maybe sustained damage from that terrible incident.

Her wings twitched as she thought about it. It was her careless flying that had brought her down south in the first place. Since then she hadn’t truly trusted herself to fly alone. Menel flew with her sometimes but beyond that only Darrian flew with her. “Certainly.” She tried to sound more confident than she felt. She was out of practice and might need to take a break. Still she wanted to spend time with Darrian. He was a balm to her mind.

Dar took off with ease, hovering in the air waiting for her. There was a strange look on her face, uncertainty? Don't worry, I'll make sure nothing happens to you." His voice was confident as he stared down on her. He would always protect her.

“I know. Silly.” Her voice was to soft to be heard, but she looked up at him and laughed stretching her wings out and then pushing off the earth to join him in the sky. Could he really protect her? She knew he would try but she had known pain and didn’t know if it was truly possible to protect her from all the ill in the world.

Staying by her side, even in flight, Darrian made sure to leave space in between them for their wings. He had been hoping that she would be up to a flight today, his mind had been full of thoughts of this mare. He wanted to know where she stood on the basis of their relation. "The air feels good today, not too warm and not too cold." Yes, he was making small talk. His thoughts were making him somewhat nervous.

“Yes and there is a nice lift to the wind to make things easier.” She complied with small talk when it came to Darrian. She might not be as social when it came to the rest of the others living around her but it was easy to talk to Darrian. He knew her past and was there for her. Though he didn’t really know of her past before the trip down south. That was something she intended to fix. The stallion was a father to her children and she wanted to share everything with him.

They were nearing the lake now, Dar could see it in the distance. The sun was being reflected on the lake's surface. "Erumara. There's kind of a reason I asked you to fly with me today." He sighed as he started his descent. They could walk the rest of the way to the lake. He landed softly, taking a few steps to slow himself. When he came to a full stop, he stood and waited for her to land.

Landing she was silent watching him. She didn’t know what to say. She knew he wasn’t the kind to force her out, but if he did she would go. She had been here so long it felt as much like home as anywhere else, but she knew she was in another herd’s domain. Perhaps while Dar was kind and sweet his family had grown tired of her presence? The thought made her sad but she would not make things hard for Dar who had only ever shown her kindness. “No matter the reason I will hear it gladly, you know that.”

The stallion took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "This time that I've spent with you, from the moment I've met you, has been the best time of my life. I...I hope that in the time that we've been together, your feelings have grown, as mine have. You see...what I'm trying to say is...uh.." Dar felt himself start to stutter and lose his words. Normally, he was such an elegant speaker. He took a few steps towards her and pressed his forehead to her shoulder for a moment, steadying and grounding himself again. "Erumara Minuialwen, you have become my heaven and the stars and moon beneath it. You're my sun on a rainy day, the warm thermals in the cold sky. Since I met you, I could not imagine my life in a different way. Even when your children have grown, I hoped you would stay. Your past is like the birds in the sky, while you can't get rid of them, they're always there during your flight, and sometimes make the flight that much better. I do not care about things in your past, and you know I will never force you to tell me. What I care about is your future, our future. Erumara, will you stay with me and live our lives together as mates?" He finished, it seemed he had found his tongue as the words just rolled off of it. Darrian inhaled again, as if holding his breath as he waited for her reply. The world seemed to stop spinning, and he knew it would never start again if she said no.

Of all the things that Erumara expected that was not one that even remotely entered her mind. Dar had been so kind to her and so wonderful but she had never thought about finding a mate. She had children and they were strong and healthy wonderfully good children. In no small part she realized thanks to Dar. Her heart squeezed tight for a moment while she thought. She had never been in love before but was it supposed to be that comfortable feeling she had with Dar? Where she could tell him most anything and feel safe? Or was it supposed to be more than that? She had no idea and would normally have asked Cale on the matter but she hadn’t seen the other mare since before Erumara had traveld down south and experienced that nightmare. She knew Dar didn’t care about her past and he never pressured her to do anything ever. She looked down at the gentle soul who had his head resting on her shoulder. “Dar. I can not lie to you. I’ve never really been in love before and there is something I share with you, but I don’t know if it’s love or not. I-I can’t promise you that it is, but if you’ll let me I’d like to explore these feelings with you.” She gently turned her neck so she could bump his up by his head. “As mates if that’s what this feeling is. I only ask that you be patient with me as I flounder through this. I’ve never really had anyone interested in me beyond one very unpleasant experience.” Her eyes darkened for a moment but cleared looking at Dar beside her. He was the balm to her pain is so many ways she wondered if she could give her heart to such a stallion. She wished with all her heart she could because every time she looked at him she felt a tugging on her heart to be near him and the desire to make him happy.

Darrian's gentle smile was replaced as he looked at Erumara. Oh how he loved her. "That's all I could ever ask for." He said happily, giving her a nuzzle. ["I'm sorry you've had such unpleasant experiences, but I will do everything I can to keep you safe. And, in the future, you decide that what you feel isn't love, and no longer wish to stay with me, I will not hold you back." It pained him to say so, but he had to tell her. He loved her and would let her do as she wished no matter what.
