Ara walked slowly through the woods, pausing now and then to pick up a particularly pretty piece of rock, or an interesting bit of bark. She had no real goal in mind for the day, just enjoying one of the first tastes of solitude since she had acquired a son. The gift from the wishing star had been a surprise, and she was finding all of her time eaten up by the little bundle of joy given to her. Today was a rare day off, when her magically appearing son Gabriel was being watched by her mother. It had been almost two years since she had encountered the stallion she believed to be Gabriel's father and a little more than a year and a half since her son had appeared. Her original goal in going to the Wishing Star had been to reacquaint herself with Zacharael and then to forcefully acquaint his face with her satchel full of rocks. No one had told her what kind of wishes the star granted at the time of her wish, but she had adapted to the new role of mother that she found herself cast in. At least her son wasn't awful like his father. Spotting something glinting in the sunlight, she picked up her pace and found a large chunk of pyrite stuck in the ground. It was the size of her hoof and looked rather heavy, but she picked it up and put it in her satchel anyway. It was too pretty to leave and she wondered if there was more around so began searching more attentively.

Pyrite wasn't the only thing the sunlight had been glinting off. A strong glitter of sunlight illuminated a small patch of black fur of a creature that looked like it was struggling. Zacharael pushed his way through another tangle of branches with a muttered curse. That beam of sunlight had struck the rock squarely and bounced back into his eyes. The stallion stopped and blinked a few times to clear the spots that had formed. Why had he opted to take this tortuous route through a forest? The canopy of tree branches above his head made it difficult to maneuver flight so he was stuck with trekking it out on the ground. He glared at the coiled shape around his foreleg before giving his leg a shake to dislodge the traveler. He had found this creature after his run-in with Ara and had begrudgingly allowed it to stay with him. Seemingly, it had been a good decision. Until moments like this popped up.
Zacharael glared as Pandora curled up into a tight ring of muscled coils. "You said you knew a way out of here. Why haven't we reached the edge of the forest?"
Uncoiling for but a moment the snake hissed quite loudly before darting off into the underbrush. Zacharael wasn't worried. She had always managed to come back. Apparently Pandora understood his moods better than he did himself. She always took off when she felt that it was too dangerous to be around him. Zacharael huffed silently and used his tail to wrench free the knife from his leg. Perhaps now was a good time to sate the hunger that had continued to rise during this forest trek.

Ara looked up when another flash of light at the corner of her eye attracted her attention. She froze at what she saw. Of all the people in all the places in the whole forest that she could run into, he was the last being she thought she was ever going to see again. Oh, sure. She'd intended to eventually find him and tell him about Gabriel, since it seemed the responsible thing to do. Ara had actually looked forward to the look on his face when she sprung it on him; surprise! You have a kid. It had made her early days caring for Gabriel, when he was still a surprise burden on her life, that much better. That aside, she hadn't actually thought about him in a couple of months, since her son was finally old enough to look after himself sometimes and she'd begun to wander around searching for inspiration again. Sometimes she found it and didn't resurface for a few days. It was times like that which made her glad for Silk who had been an invaluable babysitter. Her familiar was venomous, and didn't mind napping draped around Gabriel's neck most days for protection (though lately her son was adamant that he could take care of himself...Silk was less than pleased, since this meant he had to actively follow the yearling around to make sure he didn't get into too much trouble). These musings raced through her mind in the same amount of time it took her to gasp, before old anger rekindled almost as strong as the day he'd tricked her and she shouted, "YOU!!!!"

Zacharael froze at the colored vision before him. Instinct had him looking for the black shadow that was Pandora but she'd already cleared the vicinity. His tail whipped towards his knife but he paused. Sure the expression that Ara wore was of surprise and anger and that had him worried, but would violence really be the key.
Zacharael folded his wings along his back as he pursed his lips in the silence that followed Ara's exclamation. How could one go about answering such hostility?
Taking a deep breath, Zach inched forward while maintaining eye contact with Ara. He sighed deeply before speaking, "I know not who you are nor how I came to find you, may I just say .. hi?"
Would playing the amnesia card work in this scenario? Zacharael could only begin to hope. If it didn't ... well things would be looking down for a while.

Ara glared. He clearly hadn't changed much since their last encounter. She hadn't forgotten his deception of being prickly yet helpful and reminded herself not to be taken in by his newest act.
"Is that all you have to say to me? Hi?! You a*****e! Where are the rocks you took from me?!" she started out speaking normally, but was shouting be the end of her sentence.
If he'd truly forgotten their encounter, telling him about Gabe would be awkward...actually, did she even want to tell him about Gabe? The only reason she even had been blessed with her son was because of a misplaced wish on a star...there was no reason that Zach ever even had to know.

So it didn't seem like Ara was going to buy into his act. Her anger was a tangible thing to behold and he gave a soft cough before letting himself relax. It probably wasn't the best idea to relax around this volatile mare. Then again it was probably just his presence that brought out this volatility in Ara. Stealing her rocks while pretending to help her probably had not put him in her good graces. Zacharael paused and let himself lazily look over Ara's form before smirking.
"So still missing those rocks then? Were you able to finish your artwork or did I sabotage that as well," Zacharael winced briefly at the volume level that Ara had finished her tirade at, "you know you don't need to shout when I'm standing right in front of you."
Zacharael brought his tail back into play as it not went for his knife but to snake along the ground towards Ara's leg. If he could get her off balance maybe he'd get out of this.

Ara scoffed, of course she would continue shouting if she felt like it. Perhaps she would even shout louder, just knowing that it seemed to annoy him. "If you must know, I finished my work and had a few stones left over even. I overestimated how many I would need."
She didn't let on that she'd had to make a smaller piece, she'd die before she let him think what he'd done had effected her in anyway other than to raise her ire. It had taken a whole day just to figure out a new pattern, but in the end it had turned out better than her original idea. Zach had only made off with a few black and white rocks and maybe a handful of the little gold nuggets. It was fortunate for her that he'd come along towards the end of rock transportation.
With an annoyed snort, she eyed his tail snaking its way towards her leg. No way was she letting her guard down around him again. It helped that she had a second pair of eyes peeking out from under her hat, whispering a warning in her ear just loud enough that she could hear it but no one else. Ara contemplated the merits of stomping on the offending appendage, see how he liked that.

Zacharael listened to Ara brag that she had managed to complete her work and had a few rocks left over. He'd have to give her points for ingenuity. Her anger and wrath on that day when he'd taken her rocks spoke of a deep hatred. Surely she could not have finished the design that she had set out to do. He gave his shoulders a brief roll.
"So it seems I would have to give you credit then. I guess I didn't steal enough rocks, what a shame. I would have you know that I still have your rocks in my possession. They are not on me but I know where they are."
As Ara eyed his tail snaking along the ground Zacharael grinned. She had taken the bait it seemed. He wriggled the appendage a little more before whipping it out of her reach and stepping into her personal space swiftly at the same time. "Shall we dance?" Zach now stood almost right alongside Ara’s frame. His tail settled to rest against Ara’s back. He wanted to unnerve the mare; to put her on edge.

Ara tensed up so hard her muscles ached, and for a moment she did nothing but curse her hesitance to step on his tail. Perhaps that would have given him something to do other than torment her. "Do. Not. Touch. Me." she ground out. Underneath her hat, her snake familiar was coiling through her hair, able to hear what was going on outside but since he'd drawn his head back in when Zach got too close he could not see what was happening. Silk would happily bite anyone that dared touch her without permission, and she knew it. Would it be worth it to restrain him? She was leaning heavily towards 'not' as she made to rip herself free of his hold. ((Not this tag but probably next, we can roll for whether he actually bites Zach or not? Like, he lunges but misses or whatever?))

Had Zach realized that there was someone else or something else listening in to the conversation he was having with Ara he might have been more alert, more on edge himself. The truth was he was having too much fun toying with Ara to even note the chance that this could occur. He grinned cheekily at Ara as she told him not to touch her. Zach's tail skittered once again over the mare's back before he moved it to the side. He still stood in Ara's personal space as he looked the mare over.
She still appeared to be the same and Zacharael had an odd sense that something was amiss with Ara. "So, you say I didn't wreck your work but I don't believe you. You also seem to despise me a little more than what would be called for. What's going on little Ara?"
The words flew out of his mouth without a filter to stop them and Zach shrugged. It was fun to rile this mare up.
-[The Spoof]- Your idea sounds good. Say odds are a successful strike/evens he misses?

He was no longer touching her, but Ara did not relax. She could feel the heat from his body and that was still far too close in her opinion. Being on the same planet was too close. "You know what, you're right. There is something else. But it's none of your business." She growled, thinking that there was now no chance whatever that she would ever expose her son to this jerk. It was then that Silk seemed to get fed up with the stallion harassing his mistress, he peeked out from under her hat to aim properly and the launched himself at the obnoxious creature that was so close to her, fangs first. Kettyn odds hit, evens miss though regardless I don't think Silk will do that much damage. Just piss Zach off if he hits.

Zacharael paused as he digested Ara's words. There was possibly something else but it was none of his business. There was a small part of the stallion that really was curious as to what Ara meant by her words. For now though it was amusing to ruffle her feathers so to speak. Zacharael had been paying little attention to anything but the mare and so it was a complete shock when something flew out from under Ara's hat and launched itself towards him.
Zacharael recoiled as fast as he could from the unknown object and stumbled over a rock before feeling something impact his side. Twin pinpricks of pain lanced his flank. A minor nuisance, but it was enough to raise the stallion's ire. Zach's gaze narrowed on the serpentine body that had fallen to the forest floor. Little Ara had a protector it seemed. With a roar of fury Zacharael's tail reached for his weapon before his angered expression fell onto Ara. It was her familiar that had done the damage but somehow he felt that she was responsible. Zacharael's tail swung around he brought the sheathed weapon down on the snake that was rapidly trying to return to Ara's side, pinning it in place. How he actually longed to bring the uncovered blade down on the creature but he wasn't that angry yet. "So Ara, was that really necessary?"
The stallion eyed the writhing form of the snake before raising his glance to look at the mare. "Give me one reason why I shouldn't kill your little friend?"
-[The Spoof]- Um, I didn't know which post to use in regards to the hit/miss so I picked the former.

The moment Silk left the cover of her hat, Ara knew this could only end badly. The admittedly infuriating encounter had been a nuisance in her day but before this moment odds were she would trade a few more barbs with this a** before departing and hopefully never seeing him again this time. Now, as she watched Zach stumble back in shock which quickly turned to anger, all she could think was curses at whatever spirit had led her to this encounter today. Silk hadn't acted at her command, but that was of little importance after the fact. When the knife came out a flash of panic had flown through her before it was replaced by a sense of calm that spread like ice. The only sign that she was terrified was a subtle rustling of her wings. Her eyes were like stone as she stared into Zach's, voice low with both persuasion and promise. "Because I am asking you not to, please. You might not believe me, but he only did what he did to defend me and if you hurt him for it I will do everything in my power to return the favor." Ara had little interest in fighting, as a rule. She was an artist, not a warrior or protector. Still, she had knives for cutting plants and other implements to dig into the earth and grind things into paste or powder to mix paint. She had skill with chisels that she normally used for carving stone and wood but which she could also use to carve flesh. Though these tools were used to create, they could also be used to harm and she'd had to defend herself a few times in the past. If it came to a fight, she wasn't sure if she could win, but she'd make him bleed. Kettyn Oh dear, I don't know how this is going to end! I am thinking they are kind of at a stalemate right now. I imagine Zach doesn't take kindly to fightin' words like that. I was thinking, actually, that Gabe could come crashing into the encounter sometime soon, maybe break things up a little. He ran away from Grandma because he was bored since Silk didn't stay with him today. Or something?

Well well well. This was a pleasant surprise. It seemed that Ara was asking him for a favor. There was a threat implied behind that favor though. For the longest time he held her gaze as he felt the snake wriggle underneath his sheathed weapon. He was weighing the options of just killing the snake and having this mare remain angry with him for the rest of his life. It would mean that she'd never forgive him but it would also mean that she'd always be around. Anger was a powerful motive. It would be harsh that she'd be forever trying to kill him but it would mean that he would see a lot of her.
There was something about this mare that had wormed its way into his mind. Zacharael sighed and grasped the hilt of his sheathed weapon before staring down at the snake pinned. To take a life wouldn't make a difference to him. He gave an irritated snort before staring back to Ara. "I don't know if that is motive enough for me."
It was just after speaking this that something else burst forth and struck at the male. Zach gave a start as his own familiar seemed to appear out of nowhere to strike his tail. It was shock that caused him to ease the pressure placed on Ara's familiar. He glared at Pandora as she weaved herself around his tail - acting as a weight. "Hmm. This is a problem that I did not foresee."
