Kilian was confident when he set out this time. He had won his last dragon fight and was in high hopes of this one. He had been training hard. He was even bringing along his Keinling, Amadia. He had never practiced with her before and their bond was still rather weak. Kilian was just now beginning to accept the bond he had with the creature. As strange as that bond was, he was trying to embrace it.
“C’mon Amadia.” Kilian called to the golden Keinling. At the sound of his voice, Amadia shot up from the spot she’d been sleeping in and was by his side in an instant. He could feel slight vibrations coming from the creature. Excitement started to course through them both.
They were both eager that day and maybe that was their downfall. They weren’t inside the forest long before they were ambushed by a couple of Ysali dragons. It might have been Amadia’s eagerness at getting to hunt with Kilian or it could have been Kilian yelling at Amadia to calm down. Whatever the reason, they were both in trouble rather quickly.
As one of the Ysali dragons lunged for them, Kilan jumped back and Amadia jumped to the side. However, not being well trained, Amadia was a fraction too slow and was caught in the side by the advancing Ysali dragon. With a whimper, the Keinling went down. “Damn it!” Kilian growled as he pushed off the ground and throwing his full weight into the Ysali dragon, sending it staggering back into it’s partner.
Kilian ran to his Keinling’s side and tried to assess the wounds on her side. They were not life threatening but they did need to be treated so they wouldn’t get infected. Kilian’s head swiveled over to the dragons. He had just enough time to drag Amadia out of the way as the dragons’ tails slammed down into the ground where the two had just been crouched. “Lets go Amadia. We’ve got to get out of here.” He shoved his Keinling to it’s feet and willed it to push through the pain in it’s side. They ran through the forest as fast as they could, determined to outrun the two irate dragons on their trail.
