If she was looking for someone to talk to, she could hardly have been more fortunate, or ultimately, more at risk. There would be no confusion at all over what she was dealing with, no question as to if it were chaos that approached her, nor doubt as to his rank.

He hesitated from what he was doing, by all appearances a simple walk, a Styrofoam cup clasped in his hand, a plastic folder tucked under his arm. But now, she had his attention; he turned towards her, tilting his head.

“Well, good evening. “He said quietly, almost a purr.

“Serpentarius.” He nodded in return. “I see my name, if not my reputation proceeds me.”

He tipped his head slightly and thoughtfully. “I see, I’m to believe you come in peace, yes?” He raised his own hands to show they too were empty for all that was worth.

“Well, let us assume that I too am willing to leave this at a peaceful interaction. Why don’t you tell me a little bit about yourself? We can consider that a toll for the evening.”

“I do try and make time for those who are curious about the Dark Kingdom, It seems only fair since all you otherwise have to learn about us, is whatever you are led to believe.”

“Let’s find a bench, I don’t see any reason we should spend the night on our feet when we aren’t fighting or running.” He shifted slightly as thought he might leave her behind if she did not follow him to the aforementioned bench.”

“Let me be forthright then as well,” He paused to glance back at her, “Are you interested in JOINING us or are you just fishing to find out what we will say? Not that I can honestly swear either way that you’ll be honest with me, but humor me.” He waved his hand as though dismissing the importance of the question.

“Specific questions, I won’t hold your hand through this, after all, I don’t know if you are interested in us, or interested in rejoining so many of your former comrades. Besides which, believe me that there are still those of the Dark Kingdom who’d rather see your favors returned, if you catch my meaning, than to see you recruited regardless.”

“If anyone else knew you had, I think you might be surprised at the number of people whom have spoken to me at one time or another.”
“I think it must be a natural thing to feel conflicted, do you really…think that the white moon would hold so great a sway if it didn’t make it hard to even think about joining the other side of this war?”

“I can’t deny that the same might be true for us as well I admit, but it’s a theory I continue to toy with.”

“Consider who you most wish to be with, then see that you make sure you have something to offer them, that would be my advice.” What better way to smooth a path than to at least make a peace offering after all?

“What do you wish to know about the Dark Kingdom?”

“Certanly better organized, for the most part we respect the ranks of those around us, at least to their face. We punish those who don’t…because otherwise we would be exactly what you call us…chaotic. Ironic isn’t it? Order…is the most chaotic force in this war.

Where as Chaos, is the best ordered in it?” He gave a small roll of his shoulders that might have been a shrug.

“Punishment is a teaching tool, better that than death after all, but yes, we train, we have divisions, I had a team…though they are not mandatory. We have a fairly good support network in place.” He hesitated a moment and then added.

“I could easily be said that my defense of one of my own team… was a contributing factor to where I am today. Perhaps more ironic that I was defending him from a handful of the Dark Moon Court at the time…”

“Wars seldom make sense, they are recorded according to the victorious, and even then seldom by those whom were directly a part of it. Summarized and sanitized.”

He hesitated a moment, thinking on Lyra but he said nothing. “I like to believe that Lyra is happy with us, she prefers to be called Ammolite now.” He didn’t tell her how much she had forgotten, they had grown closer to perfecting corruption but had not yet, half a life or more could be forgotten in the transition with no way to predict what would be lost. Something similar had happened to Linarite, but that was conversation for another time when things were so very delicate.

“We feel different, such things have been more than enough in the past to start wars, what I know of our history suggests we didn’t want to follow the so called ‘Moon Queen’ either. But you’re right, I feel people have a harder time believing in a war when they realize that it is in fact, not… black and white, but ten thousand shades and shadows in between.”

He gave a small shrug. “You must know someone…passionate about the cause.” He hesitated as though he were considering what to suggest that might impress the ‘higher powers’ of the Dark kingdom, no small irony that he could easily be considered one.

“…Hinder them, that might work. Hinder someone you know to be passionate, someone… someone you are known to associate with would create a stronger impression. I could see to it such behavior made its way to the right ears so that you’d be… considered.”
