The storm had hit hard.
He had just reached the skies of the sea when the strong winds came, the lasting sting of the rain pelted him violently like a hail of rocks.
He had to squint to shield his eyes.
He was tired, exhausted almost. He couldn't remember how long he had been flying, or how long it had been since he left Eden.
Only that his body was telling him he couldn't continue any longer.
He had to land.
He succumbed to the needs of his physical being and descended in to an open set of tree tops.
The forest was dark, shattering only when the thunder roared and the lightning cracked like a tamer confronting it's lion.
His hooves took to the soft, moist terrain, dirtying the feather around them in the landing.
Less than graceful but that wasn't particularly something he cared about at the present moment.
Food, shelter a pure source of water.
Anything, so long it meant he continue even just a little longer...
Tucking his wings in to his sides, his coat gave a shiver to the relentless weather as he took off at a sluggish pace through the forest.
Taking the sheltered paths under the trees when it was provided.

The storms and the rain had never bothered her. She sat there transfixed on what look like nothing but to her it was her own little world. She watched them the spirits as she always did when the time was right. The storm around her was strong but she did not budge still transfixed on the scene before her. They always looked so happy but how could a spirit be happy? Letting herself pull away she started to shiver realising how bad the weather really was. She looked to the sky and wondered if the weather was some kind of punishment. Shaking her head she slowly started to move into the forest scanning for life of any sort. Her life had been going downhill for awhile now and she did not know if it would ever go uphill. Sighing she kept waking a white ghost through the trees seeking skelter of any kind.

Was it his eyes playing tricks on him? Was there really somebody else out in this wicked weather? Alex gave a puff of hot, air to the wind before him. It's steamy trail gone in the blink of an eye. Any warmth he hoped to gain from that vanishing with it.
His dark blues followed the ghostly figure. He could tell from the figure that it was a mare but she didn't seem like she was in a hurry, neither was he. He was going to turn and walk the opposite direction when he noticed her pause in her steps. It interested him as to why.
Was she scorning the gods for showing such ridiculous anger towards their creations? Breathing a sigh, he knew he didn't have a bone in his body that would allow him to leave the mare alone in these conditions, or in the dark forest where there was a chance to be attacked by the evils of this world.
He wandered over towards her with a careful tread. He didn't want to startle her. That's if she was real and it wasn't some subconscious desire coming to life at an unusually vulnerable moment.
She had started moving again but his long strides had managed to catch up to her with ease. He immediately out-stretched the two wings on his right side, sliding over her in the motion of a cape of sorts.
"Lovely weather were having, wouldn't you agree?" He offered the mare a small smile, all he good muster and bowed his head gently.

She heard a figure moving through the tress but she just stodd there not worried. Not many would be out in this storm so she figured it was just some stray animal. She was shocked through when she felt the rain stop hitting her back and stood even more still. She has no idea about why the rain had stopped until she looked and saw a wing..could it be..no no there were two wings not one. She was still unsure of what to do though the wings..they reminded her of..no she would not think of him. She looked up and observed the wings taking in their colors. Was this an angeni..? She heard him talk and she did not know what to do in that moment. She had been alone for so long thoughts came rushing to her and memories. She eyed him her mask covering her face. “The rain..it comes and goes but it always has a purpose..” she does not show any emotion at his smile or his gestures.

It took the mare a couple of moments to face him, she was studying his wings.
The wings that were sheltering her from the horrid wind and rain.
Still looking at her, he caught her eyes as they moved to stare him down.
She had a mask covering her face. It looked like a skull, crafted from the dark arts.
A black animal skull.
He didn't move or say anything for a moment as he came to a stand still with her, still taking in her milky eyes and the rest of her features.
The fluffy tail, the ears and the cloven hooves.
What sort of creature was she?
His ears twitched at the sound of her voice and he gave a small shake of his head.
"It's the circle of life."
A smirk lifted at the corner of his lips. That, he didn't need much energy to preserve.
"The weather never bothered me much either." He uttered the words quietly, eyes finally falling from her and to the surrounding forest.
It was as empty as he was.
The inhabitants had fled to their homes and nests and yet here the two of them were, no where to be.
"Still, it has the ability to send most of these creatures running. What kind of power that must be, hmm."

She wondered what the stallion thought of her. If thoughts of evil were going through his head if he was thinking of leaving her there. She was used to that and it would not bother her much if he did just walk away. No one ever tried to understand her it was mostly her own fault but she did not want the same fate as before. She noticed though that he was still standing there observing her carefully. She had never seen an angeni before to say the least she had to admit he was stunning. She did not know what to say to him or what he would want to talk about. “Life..is not always kind..” she nods slightly and looks off into the distance “I like all the seasons..each has there own meaning..” listing to him again she waits to respond “The animals adapt..they know how to survive..even in the coldist of winters..or the hottest of summers’..”

"I have to agree." He switched his gaze back to her only to find her gaze set somewhere a head of them.
In a way that it should of really been behind them. He had seen that distant look before, known it apparent in himself many times.
"Life finds a way to knock you, even when you're already drowning in the dirt."
He gave a gentle huff of a sigh, not registering that he was doing it, more out of habit lately than anything else.
"They do. I find it interesting how they just know what they're supposed to do. Like it's programmed in to them. Not by being taught by their parents, an instinct that's with them since birth. If only we all had that blessed sense of direction."
He looked at her with mild curiosity, she had a lot of opinions and beliefs in her. He could tell in the way she spoke, held herself that she must have been through as much as he had in the passing years.
"What do the seasons mean to you?" He tilted his head some, curling his wings further round her as he continued to walk. Encouraging her to walk with him.

“Have you had a good life..?” she looks up at him starting to feel lost and confused. She had not talked to anyone in quite some time and she felt..comforted by this stallion. He was going out of his way to talk to her and to shelter her. He was showing her kindness when she was not showing much emotion at all. He must have had a good heart..or was he also a lost soul seeking in the dark? “My life has been that way..no matter how many times I get up..im always right back at the start..” she sighs softly “I find it hard to get over my past..many things have happened..” she thinks about his next words carefully “We are all born..with a purpose..it is up to us if..we choose to follow it..” she wonders what will happen when this stallion grow bored and decides to wander off. She would be in the darkness once again loosing her grip. Her pauses had gotten worse after her experiences. She paused more often when she talked because she was always thinking. “The seasons..mean times come and go..foals are born and grow up..” she is referring to her own family with that. She sees him start to walk ahead and slowly follows.Hh

Had he had a good life?
What was the defining point of being satisfied with what hands had been dealt to you?
The good and the bad times.
He was trained in combat, had the skills to battle off any threat and protect those he loved. He had traveled the land in search of answers, seen more than he could of asked for and still, he was still searching for something.
Walking to a blind spot in the darkness, not knowing what it was he was looking for, where to start or if he would even know what it was if it was handed to him.
"I guess... I have a kind, wonderful family who loved me, cared for me even when my actions were questionable however I have grown apart from their views and traditions..." He paused, frowning. "Broke from the sheltered life of our herdlands and realized there was a darkness in me I never could of believed existed in me."
It dawned on him perhaps he was the problem, the obstacle standing in his way.
He nodded at her. It made him want to comfort her as she explained life had done the same. Showing her cruelties, rendering her in to the lost. The darkness. Were they supposed to have found each other or just a coincidence that two lost creatures were standing side by side looking for clarity.
"The past defines who were are." He voiced it with strong belief. "We may not like the path it creates for us, or the scars it leaves in it's wake only that we take to believe that it makes us stronger, helps us grow to avoid making the same mistakes."
He gave a light laugh, his eyes softening.
"I don't find that to be true. It weakens the mind when it desperately seeks strength and we all find ourselves making the same mistakes over again, disguising them in different situations. Scenarios. Only when it's too late do we see the devil lurking behind them."
He didn't mind her pauses or her silence. He found it soothing, that someone waited to find the right thing to say other than babbling constant, meaningless nonsense.
"Is nature really that simple?" He rolled his eyes up to the sky, narrowing his brows. "Were born, we grow, we reproduce, protect and care for our young, watch them make the same mistakes and in the end, out live that purpose and give back to the world." That was too plain for him to want, to be able to find mutual understanding with it and maybe, that was the route he was supposed to take.
They were all supposed to take.
He gave a gentle shrug at his thoughts.
"What has been done to you?" He asked this with care, in hope that his forwardness didn't offend her. Prying in to business that wasn't for him to know of.

From a young age she had always relied on her brother. After there parents had died they woke up to find themselves pure white with the ablity to see spirits. They never knew why or what happened and she still had family out there but she was distant from them. She was never fond of them or there ways her beliefs had made her an outcast. She lost the brother she thought she knew and wished to banish him from her heart. She did nothing wrong it could not be helped so she was on her own thought she knew love. The stallion was only going to leave her and she knew that but he was not as loving as she first thought. He left when the kids were only foals she raised them by herself. The only one she still saw now and again was Titan he seemed to understand her pain. She was a soul with a background that is hard to move on from. Loosing your brother to mere belief and then finding out your love was not what you thought but even worse. Did she ever really love him? Or was she just weak needing someone to lean on and accpect the first stallion who tried? Never again would she be so foolish as to let love blind her. This stallion here next to her he seemed kind and trusting but how she she ever be sure if he was the one to rescue her? JHer heart was stone and ice someplace that none could ever reach. If he was the one then the spirits would tell her so but so far they had been all but quiet..strangley quiet..what would he think when he learned of her gift? Of her curse..
She is broguth back to the present now and nods absentl mindley. “You sound like me..my brother and family..abandoned me..becauce I did not believe..what they did..becauce..i did not life mate..among other reasons..do I regret my choices..sometime..but it was..only fate..” she looks up and him seeing truth in his eyes. “Darkness in you..? You do not know..the things I see..” she watched him for a moment wondering why they had been brought together two lone souls seeking a purpose. “My past has left..many scars..in my heart..it has changed me..i will not make the same mistake..i will not be fooled again” she is still talking with many pauses not being aware of it “Mistakes..we both have made many” she sighs and is startled when the spirits come back suddenly and she stops dead in her tracks to watch them dancing like never before. She shakes her head trying to clear them but they wont budge they seemed to be celebrating. She keeps staring at them before being drawn back again to reality. “Nature is not simple..it can never be simple never..we are born to fufill our purpose but someone must break..that cycle..i hope I will stop making the same mistakes..What is our purpose..? The things that have been done to me are of my own foolishness..” she wants to yell out at the world but know that wont change a thing. “I was fooled into a false love..forced to raise a family..”Hh

His eyes traced her form whilst she remained in her thoughts, not rushing to give him an answer. He gave a genuine smile, thankful for her time and consideration. It was turning out to be a deep and pleasant conversation.
He had met many of soquili and never had he had one like this. He soaked in the silence and watched the shadow of his wings spot her figure like a canopy would the earth. The break in his feathers here and there giving the same effect.
He lifted a brow when she noted that they were alike and gained his attention, wondering how as she continued to explain her thoughts, her beliefs and how she came to be here. In this moment, stood with him.
Sharing his views and opinions.
How was he to know that there was another like that, somewhere out in the world and had taken him this long to find them.
He blinked, startled at the absence of time and how it all went by so quickly. Realizing how long it had been since he had a glimpse of enjoyment in doing nothing but talking. Yet, he had only just met her and he was comfortable.
Sadness was all he could feel for her. The pain, of losing ones family must of been unlike any other. Shunned by them. Alex had taken his hide out of his herd, for their benefit. He didn't want them to see him break what they worked so hard to achieve.
It was a hard decision to make but this mare didn't have that choice.
"I'm sorry for your losses and I mean no disrespect when I say this but they're merely blind to what truly matters in this world. Never should any shun their family, no matter what they believe or what they do. Be angry with them, pray for them, grieve but never abandon... What a fate to have to bare."
He frowned in his words, wanted to reach out and touch her to show some form of a comfort he could see was lost on her but he knew better. Pity, sympathy, it wasn't either of those but a form of empathy which could be taken out of context instead he gave a slow shake of his head.
She was right. He did not know what she saw and especially not him him. He hoped she saw the better side, the side that life had blocked from him being able to see at the present, if he would ever know or see it again.
"You're right, we have shared much of the same pain. I too have felt heartache, been deceived in to believing but it is all for the better. Determinism gives the feeling of hope to cling on to and we just have to keep believing that the theory is a true one and it isn't just an act of random events."
He halted when she did, pushing his head up to look out before them. His eyes slipped to their corners to look at her, wondering what she could see. He didn't see anything but the flash of the raging sky flickering across the stumps of old wise trees and the darkness that followed it.
Neither did he feel another presence, or wandering eyes. So what was really there?
"Maybe it is time to take the future in to our own hands. Move on from the pain and know that it happened to better us. Keep it behind us, never forget but use it as a map to guide ourselves, others." He moved closer to nudge her cheek gently with the tip of his nose. Breathing slowly, he used his eyes to try follow the line of her sight.
"What do you see?"

She wondered what had taken so long. Why she had only now met this stallion after her many trials and errors. It a test of some sort or her own destiny if only she could have known the future. She could not linger in the past for she had been in it far to long. Titan her son had told her that she must move on but she always pushed him aside. He told her to open up her heart and move on because everything happens for a reason.
She never wanted to open herself to anyone but not after so long she could not control the words pouring out. It felt good to have someone to confide in even if it was a stallion and even if she did break her own promise to herself. She felt something inside of her stirring the locks she had set up were coming undone. It would take more though for her to regain her common scence.
She felt like she could tell this stallion anything and he would believe her. Foolish thoughts but she could not keep tham at bay. She wanted to believe that was true but she knew better than to trust in hope. Did he understand her? Was he thinking of how foolish she must have been to fall in love knowing it could not last? She longed for true love a love that would never die or if it did a stallion who was good enough to stay in touch. She wanted someone to grow old with start there own generation and family. She looked out into the distance knowing what she must do but how could she do it? She kept lisiting to the stallion taking in his voice letting it provide comfort. “Yes..but they did..they punished me and I will never go back..i will start my own life find my own happiness..that is what I always thought would happen…I am not happy though” She wanted to feel close to someone and he was trying to know her pain understand her suffering. “I know my fate is real…I wish I could see what was planned..your pain and my pain..we both know what its like for things not to happen how we hope..how that fairy tale ending can quickly turn dark..” she noticed him eyeing her then having stopped in his tracks. She scanned his eyes and face at the same time knowing he would not be able to see her face or expressions. “I would love to keep the past behind me..but it is always one step ahead of me..” she is shocked when she feels him touch her with his nose and in return lets herself lean on him longing to be accepted feel the warmth of someone.
“Why do I feel drawn to you..? I can not resist wanting to know you..i feel a connection..a cond forming..its trying to break my own promise..” she stands there feeling his heat and warmph. “I see..spirits..my long gone family..ansctors..they come and go as they please..i can call on them sometimes but rarely..right now they seem happy..happy ive found you” she closes her eyes then and hopes he does not run from her or call her names for being different..ghostly.. not normal.
"Do you know why i wear my mask..? Or refuse to speak my name..? If someone sees my face..or knows my name..i feel they own me..they know who i am..i can never run from them..if no one ever knows who i am..i remain free..a ghost..only a shadow in there mind..easily forgotton..once i show them myself..they never forget.."

He did not need to see her face, her expressions to know the pain she had felt, the horrors she had been through. Her voice gave away the things she had witnessed had to push past and work out how to live again.
Only to feel that life was like an endless nightmare becoming nothing more than the dead walking the earth. Were you really living if you didn't feel the joy in it? Weren't happy, hesitant to turn around the next corner you needed to take thinking disaster was waiting to strike yet again.
That was not a life. There had to be a break in the bad, in the middle-earth of limbo and Alex was beginning to believe that this was that break, granted in a way he would of never suspected.
"It may not be the past that is before you but the future opening it's arms to welcome you and were too busy being consumed by that past to take the hand that is offered to us." His voice trailed in to a soft, hushed tone once the mare took to leaning against him. He didn't reject it but also welcomed the warmth and the touch of another. Not just any others touch but hers.
He would have been numb, void of any opinion if just anyone had taken to lean on him but not this mare. He was welcoming it and to show that he was grateful and feeling the exact same lure towards her, he curled his wings around her further and pulled them towards him to embrace her.
He narrowed his head to one side, his wet bangs slipping in a bond across his cheek to reveal most of the deep ocean blues of his eyes. Her reflection clearly held in them.
"I feel it too." He started, a smile creeping across his lips. "You're not alone in feeling those things. I too never thought I would feel quite like this again or find some sort of belief in the myth that is a true, happy ending to a fairy tale."
He paused, thinking how his family had watched his sister spent most of her life chasing them, basing her beliefs off of them, seeking the prince charming that shone so brightly only to end up with the dark prince in the end whose children sent her in to agonizing despair.
That came to an end, her children eventually returning, finding their mother had grown in to a stronger, kinder mare who shrugged off the taint of depression and found a happiness most would never touch in their life.
Was that something they had potential to touch on too?
"Apart of me wants to believe that there's still a chance to make our own ending, a happy one." He looked back to the spot she had been staring to the moment she revealed what she could see.
He squinted to see if he could make out their ghostly figures, if he tried hard enough that they would appear to him too but they didn't. He didn't find that odd at all but thought she was gifted and knew that many would of killed to have the same ability.
To see their loved ones, those that came before them. Others who were long forgotten wishing they had left that mark to be remembered.
"They're happy you found me? Hmm..." He gave a gentle laugh at how his own feelings mirrored theirs and wondered if she was too. He bowed his head in greeting to where he believed the spirits were dancing and then looked back at her.
"I have no desire to see your face or know your name if that is your wish, what I care about is knowing the gentle, kind soul that is behind it and who she really is." A whisper. "And if she is as happy as her ancestors to have found me."
He waited before continuing. "Can I tell you a secret? I am happy to have found you. To have met someone who is a light in the darkness even though she has been through so much, reflected on the darkest of pasts. Raised a family and battled the many oddities and delicate patches life could throw at her and continue to hold on to hope that it could all change. How can that not make a lost, shell of a soul like me happy to have found someone in a moment of chance, like this?"

In her heart she knew she would regeret it if she passed up this chance. If she left this stallion and locked her heart up she would forever regret and wonder what could of happened. She would not let that happen no matter how much she might of wanted to keep everything in. If se left now she would never be able to forgive herself because this stallion felt the same things she did. She hoped that he would not leave once the night came but was that to much to ask for? He must have had his own life his own mate. She would not ask him though because deep down she knew he did not have a mate and never did. She could tell that much from his words. “if the future is before me..why does it look so much like the past..?” her speech is improving the more she talks and she is almost back to her normal pattern still talking somewhat slow but with far less pauses. “The past has been my life for so long..it is hard to change what can never be forgotten..but it seems this is the first step” he had not pulled away from her yet so she assumed he felt the same way she did. She felt his wings envlop her fully pressing her to his side and she welcomed it. He cared about her a stranger who he had just met and somehow she cared for him. How could this bond be growing so fast? How could they go from strangers to this in such a short time? They must truly have been lost willing to take the comfort of anyone who would lisiten. She looks up enjoying the touch of his feathers. She sees his eyes closer than ever now a blue that seems to see everything. He is watching her intently and she feels as if she can see his heart and soul through his eyes. She is shocked that she is letting herself go so easily all that time building up a wall that is so easily broken. She had a heavy heart for so long but she can feel this time its different. He did not feel like the one who had fooled her she could tell his words were true he was one that would never leave his love. She hoped he would find someone fitting surely he would not fall for herself a mare hopeselly lost. ..unless he already had started to. “You feel the same way I do..? I never expected to feel this again the way I do now..You are breaking down my walls and defenses..as if they were nothing but air..I can tell you are true to your word..true to your heart..fairy tales and happy endings there myths..they have to be..” she starts to dought herself now coming to terms with what is happening. “I..I..think..i have just met you..I..” she cant spit it out but she knows she has fallen hopeselly in love..again love at first sight. Not with only his looks but more so in love with who he is and his history. His pain and suffering make her feel as if she has known him for years. The way he looks into her eyes she can see he is not dark but a soul who needs rescuing like her..had they rescued each other? “How am I letting myself do this all over again..I shunned anyone who tried to get close who wanted to know me..i cant run from you..i would never want to run from you..” a rare smile crosses her masked face. She had no reason to be happy and had not felt so happy since well..she had never been this happy never with her old mate never with the siblings. She had just been given a new meaning in life she had to admit it. Her heart was open now for him to see she felt that he could. “I cant hide anymore..there is no reason to hide..no one can hurt me because I am stronger..we can make a happy ending..but only if we stay by the others side and never ever leave..the spirits I am happier than they are to have found the one I was never seeking..this was all by chance but it was set long before our time..our ancestors must have been in love..i canot explain any other reason we would be so close..with only a first meeting” “You really have no desire to see my face..? My old mate begged and pleaded with me and so I showed him..but you really have no want to know who I am..? That is..a very unexpected action” she is drawn into his way of letting her do what she wishes if it makes her happy. He is not at all forcing or pleading like her old mate was. He was the type who would be willing to never see her face but still get to know her. She admired his spirit and his way of doing things. “I feel the way you do..We were both lost of the darkness but by a miracle we met..i have gone through much but so have you..it is time we start over as you have said..we can put the past behind us..”
