Art, being subjective subject matter to begin with, was often taught by professors who had an "opinion" on the subject. Several of those professors were of the "opinion" that abstract art wasn't strong enough to carry a portfolio. Which put Mathias in a bind - as the vast majority of his portfolio was all abstract work. Which meant only one thing.
He needed to do a lot of traditional portraits and landscapes - and he needed to do them NOW. This of course, was difficult to do without models to pose for his portraits, or in his landscapes - and hiring them was somewhat difficult to do, being as strapped for cash as he was.
So that left him with only one recourse.
He stood in front of one of the many campus bulletin boards, ad in hand in the hopes that maybe his terms would catch the eye of a few people. Being strapped for cash, he couldn't offer cash payment for their time, but he was willing to part with the portrait or landscape he did of them, after it got graded in his portfolio of course.
Once he placed the ad, which had tear off strips with his phone number and e-mail, he moved over to a nearby bench to watch the ad.
Maybe he'd get lucky and someone would stop to take a look, and he could talk to them directly.

In her entire school career Fiona Watson had been quite the activist when it came to extra curricular activities. Which was exactly what lead her to DCU's bulletin board to peruse the posted flyers. She had been standing there for exactly two minutes before Mathias arrived scanning over what had recently been posted. Many of the flyers advertised textbooks for sale or tutoring services, things the ginger certainly didn't need.
She wrinkled her nose, lips settling into a slight pout as she placed a hand on her hip, clearly disappointed in the pickings for the month.
She hadn't noticed the young man posting the flyer, nor did she see him move to the bench waiting for someone to take a look at his ad. A flyer advertising a tennis club caught her eye first and she moved closer to the bulletin board, finger pressing against the paper and sliding across it as she skimmed the information.
Then she noticed his ad.
She turned toward it, head cocking slightly making her side braid slide across her shoulder. She read it with interest, reached to touch the printed number and hesitated.

A red head - okay, Mathias had to admit he had a weakness for red heads. He slowly stood up when he saw her hesitate for a moment, and walked back over to the bulletin board, leaning against it next to her, crossing his arms a little bit, already getting a good look at her profile. "Interested?" Mathias asked, motioning toward the ad. "Cause I have to say, it'd be an honor and a privilege to paint you." He tilted his head lightly, and then blinked. Were her eyes... different colors? His grin widened and he looked her up and down. "Yes, I have to say - you'd be perfect."

She turned, seemingly startled by his sudden appearance. She pulled her hand back, stepping away as she looked the boy over. She frowned slightly, unsure of how to judge the dark haired man but then he complimented her and her demeanor changed. She smiled almost shyly, though she was hardly shy, and looked away.
"Oh no," she told him with a shake of her head. "I don't think I'm cut out for being a model." Well, that wasn't quite true but Fiona couldn't resist trying to coax a few more compliments out. Mismatched eyes blinked at him as he took in her appearance and she laughed. "You're flattering me," she waved a hand about to dismiss him.
"Should I assume you're the one that posted the ad then?" It was the logical conclusion. "I suppose I could consider it, but...I don't know..." she trailed off, glancing away. A hand lifted to tuck a loose strand behind her ear. "I've never done it before."

Mathias smiled and ran a hand through his short hair, allowing his smile to become that infectious sort of grin that he'd often been told made him look like he was entirely up to no good - usually because that was the case. A hand came up to massage his chin as if he was deep in thought, his eyes moving over her body again, but mainly staying stuck on her eyes. "Yeah, I put up the ad - I just didn't realize that we had someone as hot as you on campus," his lip quirked into a half smile as he spoke, his eyes meeting her mismatched ones, actually glad he could let his mouth run for once instead of having to try and rein himself in. "You'd be a perfect model, you've got a very nice body, curves that don't quit and in the right places," He slowly walked closer, allowing his eyes to wander again, taking her all in at a different angle, he chuckled softly. "And it's pretty easy really, you'll pick out an outfit and just sit looking pretty for me, and seeing as how you're standing there looking pretty already - I think you've got it pretty much down pat." He smirked and winked at her. "What do you say? It'd make a great gift for a boyfriend, girlfriend or heck, even your parents." He smiled and bowed his head. "It would honestly be amazing if I could paint you - your eyes alone will make the piece amazing, let alone the rest of you - you are the picture of perfection already, I can only hope to do you justice."

She couldn't hide the little smile that appeared when he complimented her. She couldn't deny his claims (because really, she was likely the prettiest girl on campus) but still liked to play bashful. "You sure know how to flatter a girl don't you," she commented casually.
There were some girls that would be horrified by the way Mathias was complimenting her or looking at her but Fiona was not one of those girls. She didn't mind the attention because she knew she deserved it.
"Well, I'm still a bit uncertain," she told him wrinkling her nose. "But I suppose it's not such a bad idea." And it wasn't like she couldn't handle herself. "And you've been so sweet. So maybe just this once."

Mathias smiled and bowed his head a bit. "It would be a pleasure." He chuckles and nodded his head to her and offered his hand. "Though I suppose proper introductions are a must. As you can see on the ad, my name is Mathias."He wanted to get down to business - if at the very least so he could maybe see if she would be willing to sit for him sooner rather than later.
