There had only been two things Ami had done since getting home. The first was taking the codex to her lab, locking it up and borderline hissing at anyone who so much as looked at it. She'd have to work on runicing it in the morning, as it was too late- or too early? for anything to be done. So for now it was in a quarantined area, locked away.
The second thing she'd done was go home for a shower. Crawling around in those vents had been disgusting and unlike Evan she wasn't going to just ignore it.
So the suit had been tossed carelessly and into the shower she'd gone. It was strangely silent when she popped out. For once, Ami wanted to celebrate with someone. Parties weren't really her style. A quick text to Lex about making a cake, and she was drying her hair. Unfortunately with how long her hair was, it was going to take a while.

Lex had never been that person who was entirely cranky or grouchy when woken late (or early); but instead was the kind of person who had a half lidded zombie stare for a good hour or until someone brought out the coffee pot. The text from Ami garnered a mumble and yawn, along with a response of something along the lines of "as long as it's not chocolate." He could have made a cake pun, or some other kind of pass, but he was just too tired - and Ami wasn't really a fan of that humor in the first place.
He decided not to do much to get ready, just a simple shower and tooth brushing. He'd trim down his stubble later, and there wasn't even much work done to his hair but a few quick brushes. Ami wouldn't really care if he looked a bit disheveled.
Having bought a bottle of Merlot during his latest day off, the Lifer decided he'd bring it to their little cake date. Cake and wine, why the hell not. He made his way to the towns, and knocked on the small house's door. "Ami? Hello?"

The idea that Lex would be tired hadn't even crossed her mind. Ami was lucky if she could be asleep by 1, so it wasn't sleep time. She was too excited to care otherwise. She'd recovered a freaking artifact. Maybe they were becoming more common, but she wanted to scream it to the world. Well no, she would never do that, but the metaphor still held.
Unbeknownst to Ami, there was an intruder in her house. She of course, couldn't hear him because she had music up quite loudly on top of her hair dryer. That, and the door to the bathroom was shut and locked firmly. You could never be too careful with some of the creeps feng around Deus.
At least she wasn't singing. That would be way too embarrassing.
Unfortunately for Lex, Ami hadn't set out any of the baking materials- she'd planned to do it once he got there. The only thing she'd set out was her journal, as she'd intended to make a record of such an event. The idea had been lost in her eagerness to shower, so instead it just sat on her bed. Oops.

Having not gotten an answer, Lex assumed she was busy, and had left the door open for him. She was smart enough to do that, obviously. Music greeted him as soon as he entered, a song by that Radical Face group she'd shown him before leaving on her mission. He'd tried to get her to listen to Of Mice and Men, but she'd refused because "they would soil the name of such a great book." He'd rolled his eyes at that, as he did when he noted that she hadn't even put the ingredients for the cake out. "Silly girl.." He smiled, taking the butter and eggs out of the fridge. Didn't she know they needed to be at room temperature for the optimal fluff factor?
Walking to the back of the house, her bedroom, Lex finally heard the hair drier. That'd take a while... he gave a soft grunt, looked around like a child that was about to be very naughty, and threw himself on the petite woman's bed, intent on dozing until she was ready. He would have done just that, had he not felt a hard and square lump under him.
With mild curiosity he dug under his body, hands grasping the offending object. Pulling it out revealed that the book was Ami's journal - and a large grin painted the man's face. He could read it if he really wanted to...

LOUD NOISES. COULDN'T HEAR HIM.
---
If Lex bothered to open the book though HE REALLY SHOULDN'T BECAUSE THAT'S A PRVIATE THING GOD LEX he wouldn't find much in the way of feelings. Most of the book was empirical data. Lists, numbers, specs, factual descriptions. It was how she kept a calm mind, the way she remembered dates, how she kept facts to return to later. There were snippets of articles, bits of poems she liked copied in her neat cursive handwriting. Really it could hardly be considered a journal, it was more a collection of thoughts.
The small bits of it that were emotional at all were mostly crossed out in an ugly black ink. That was unfortunately the result of an angry soul and one too many drinks.
As time went on it was considerably less rigid. Some days she wrote more expansively. Emotions snuck in- simple things like compliments to Stormy's attendance, or Ami finding it amusing the way Lex's hair fell on his scarf that particular morning. It was hardly a diary, but there were cracks of personality skewed through out it. Increasingly Lex's name came up- written next to poems like The Bait or Silentium Amoris. Kat's name fell on the paper, Marcus', Tori's but never so much as Lex's. There was a clear bias towards anything related to the man. Things she would never dare say out loud.

Lex, even though he was a fully grown, 25-year-old man, still did a few very childish things in private. He'd pout when something didn't go his way, or occasionally pick his nose and flick it into the hallway. When no one was watching in the labs, he'd spit into the minipets' water bowls or flick them on the nose. And yes, Lex even went so far as to peek into a girl's "diary." The journal had been boring, until it got to the bits and pieces about people - and his name started showing up more and more.
The two poems were what really got his attention. Ami had been pushing Lex to read more poetry, especially in dead languages but also in modern and classic English. He'd nudged her into watching a suspense film with him on a mutual day off. The poems themselves were endearing, if not a bit sad to him. The authors clearly thought themselves not good enough for the subject of their affection - and his own name scrawled by them in Ami's dainty cursive needled his heart. He kept turning and kept finding his name, seeing some laughter and joy crop up in her handwriting. She really felt this much for him? To say he was in awe and felt so completely overwhelmed was an understatement.
He turned on his back, flipping back to the pages where she'd rewritten the poems and his name, softly reading them aloud.

Seeing as her hair was dried and now neatly tucked into a bun, Ami had realized there was someone in her house. After all, it was hard not to hear him with how loud he was being. There was no panic though- it was Lex.
What did, however, panic her was when she walked into the room to find him perusing her journal. Seeing as she'd thought he was just reading a book, the journal was both a surprise and annoyance. "Lex!" she screeched, marching right over (which was quite difficult in just a towel) and taking the book from him. "What the ********?! You don't just-"
Was it unfair that she was a bit peeved? She was almost completely naked and her boyfriend had just read through her innermost thoughts. "Get out! At least let me change." If he protested at all she added somewhat angrily, "You owe me that much."

Dropping the journal the second Ami's voice was heard, Lex tried to give her the innocent, puppy eyed, "I didn't do it" look. It failed, and it failed hard. Though, he had to admit, she was really cute when angry. Hell, she was cute at any time of the day, with any emotion. A smirk danced its way across his features as he got off the bed, holding his hands up in defense. "Alright, you caught me. Sorry." He acted like he was going to leave out the door, hand catching her hip before drawing her closer. "More importantly, I caught you." His smirk grew to a grin, that settled into a smile. "And I love you." He finished with a kiss, holding it for a few moments before breaking away.
With a grin he actually headed for the door. "I'll let you get ready."

It was infuriating. The way he could nonchalantly smile as though nothing had happened to him. It pissed her off that she had had her deepest confessions revealed and he got away scott free.
But she had no time to bask in her anger, not when he was pulling her so close and saying that he loved her. Lips met her own in an unfortunately awkward kiss, what with one of her arms trying to keep her towel up and the other attempting to gently push him away. Not becuase she didn't want his kiss, but in fact because she wanted it. The overwhelming feelings she had for the man were overtaking her denial.
As he walked out the door, Ami stubbornly opened her drawers, trying to shake the image of his carefully constructed smile. She stared at the clothing, trying to get a grip on reality.
Maybe it was the fact that it was late. Maybe her excitement from recovering the codex was bubbling over into her personal life.
She timidly opened the door, not having changed from the towel at all. "Lex?" If he made this awkward, she would never forgive him. "I love you too."

A broader smile spread across his face, cheeks threatening to flush. He knew those words, to her, were words that were not to be wasted and thrown like a child's paper plane. To Ami, the phrase was sacred. He'd do his absolute best to honor it.
"I'm glad." He responded, leaning against the door frame with a smile, hand itching to go to her hair and start fiddling with it. She'd just dried it, though. He didn't want to mess it up. "You're gorgeous; have I ever told you that? Absolutely stunning, outside and in." His hand brushed her face, softer smile now painting his lips. "How am I so lucky to have you?"

Ami felt her chest tighten, her breath cut. She would always be envious of Lex's ability to speak his feelings so freely. Words seemed to evaporate in her mind before she could think to enunciate them. Perhaps that was Lex's gift- the ability to make her thoughts stop.
"Oh shut up," she murmured, leaning into the hand he'd placed on her cheek. "As if I'm not lucky to have you." She realized the awkwardness of standing in the doorway and pulled his hand down from her face walking backwards and pulling him inwards like the temptress Circe herself.
Somewhere in the back of her mind she registered the door shutting on them. "Now are you going to arrange pretty words or will you act on them," she hummed. With Lex leaning in so close it- for once- wasn't hard for her to kiss him. Arms wrapped around his neck and pulled him down, down to her level for once. She only paused to whisper, "The hoodie won't help."

Let the record show that Ami, the 'ice queen', was the one to start this. He chuckled into her kiss, lingering on her lips just a while as he unzipped the hoodie. Breaking contact after what seemed like an eternity, the outer garment was off and thrown to the side.
"Nor will the towel." He whispered, nudging her down as he reached for his wallet.

"Let's take tomorrow- today? off," she insisted, looking up at him from her spot on his side as she drew tiny invisible circles on his skin. "Slow morning ... Caaake ..."
Something was nagging her. She would deal with it later. A single kiss was pressed into his shoulder that quickly turned into a laugh. "Maybe we can finally go to the beach."

Chuckling in the back of his throat while pressing a kiss to Ami's forehead. "Sounds like fun to me. I brought some wine; you don't mind a bit of morning drinking do you?" He murmured, chin resting atop her once again messy hair. All that work for nothing.
"I'm glad we didn't do that at the start." It was rather abrupt, but he was smiling as he traced a line up and down Ami's back. "It was hard for me, though."
