Hel was barreling up the stairs of the reaper dorms, and she skidded along the floor as she reached the fourth floor, coming out into the hall from the landing. She was quick to steady herself on her feet, clutching a rolled up leather case in her hands. She stopped in front of Shun’s door, and shifted her item to one arm, raising her fist and banging on the door.

“SHUUUUUUUN!” Hel cried. “SHUN I WANT TRAINING NOOOOOOOW~!” Seemed she was excited about something.

Up until a certain valkyrie had run up to his door banging and shouting, Shun had been on the floor of his room doing a number of sit ups. When he heard Hel, he turned towards the door, furrowing his brow. Damn she sounded excited. While he was always up for training, he had to wonder what spurred this moment exactly.

Getting up, he made his way over and opened the door.

"What sort of training are you looking to do?" he asked, getting straight to the point.

Hel was grinning once Shun opened the door, and she unrolled her leather case to reveal a set of curved knives.

Knife training.” She announced. “See, I was cleaning out my room in preparation for graduation…and I happened to find these! Got them some birthday ago from a friend of the family who is a weapon smith, but I did not care to use them until now!” Now, she had a best friend who knew how to use knives, not to mention Amityville opened her eyes to the possibility that she wouldn’t always be able to summon her weapon.

“I can carry these on me, and it is always good to be armed!”

As the case was shown, Shun looked down to see a set of knives, much to his surprise. Reapers were the exception to the 'no weapons on campus' rule, but that typically only went for their own reaper weapons. Hopefully these weren't something that Hel showed off too much else she got herself into needless trouble.

"Very well. If that is the training you seek, then I'll do what I can," he nodded. Teaching others this sort of thing wasn't exactly something he had done. But the same could be said for hand to hand combat, which he was kind of able to do with Mitsu to some extent.

"I will likely be carrying a few extra blades on myself as well once I get out of the school," he nodded.

Hel’s grin just widened. “Bitchin’.” She replied, rather pleased. She didn’t feel the need to inform Shun that she probably needed to be started off at basics…since her natural weapon was a pole arm, mid-range weapon. He probably just knew already. She rolled up her case and then tucked it back under her arm for now, nodding her head as well. “Ya! Nothing wrong with being prepared, right? Where should we go?”

She rested her other hand on her hip, and tilted her head. “Oh ya! I can teach you pole-armed weapons one day as well, if you would like!” As a trade of sorts.

Shun took a moment to consider possible locations.

"Let's head to the roof. We'll be less likely to be seen there," he said with a nod. With that said, he went to fetch his shoes and coat, then stepped on out of the room.

"That would be a fair trade," he agreed. While he had his doubts that he would be carrying around a pole arm, the knowledge could be applied to staffwork most likely, which would be easier to find variants lying around.

Without waiting for her, he began to ascend upwards so that they could reach the roof.

"There are a few different ways to go about this. My particular style involves using both blades in reverse grip most of the time. Some styles keep one in normal and the other in reverse," he explained.

“Okay!” The thought of sparring on the roof was pretty exciting, actually. She never thought of it before! The reaper grinned, and followed right in step with the grim. She was also excited at the prospect of teaching Shun how to use a pole arm in the future, but for now…it’d just be knives.

The ghoul looked over at him as he spoke, and gave a thoughtful hum before deciding. “One normal and one reverse.” She informed. “That way I get a taste for both.”

Nodding to that, Shun walked out onto the roof, then turned around, summoning his blades. He wasn't as familiar with the second style but he knew a couple of things regarding it. There were a few times where he had to flip his grip, after all. After summoning, he flipped the grip in his left hand so that he was holding it more normally.

"When fighting like this, typically, this blade will be used more for the offensive. The reverse grip would then be used to parry strikes and the like," he explained, then demonstrated with a few quick slashes with his fore-dagger.

Once on the roof, Hel unrolled her set of knives, and immediately picked out two curved blades that matched Shun’s in length. There were quite a few within the set all different sizes, but she wanted to be on even ground with the other reaper so to speak. The ghoul stared down at the blades in her hands, her fingers clenching and unclenching around the handles, noting that it felt odd to be handling a weapon that wasn’t her spear.

She mimicked Shun’s stance and hold, and observed the boil, nodding her head. “Got ya.” While ‘defense’ wasn’t in Hel’s vocabulary…she really should be looking into it more.

"Keep in mind what your range is. You have to get a lot closer to make contact with these than your usual weapon," Shun noted. Not entirely certain what else to explain, he demonstrated a few maneuvers for Hel. He did it first at normal speed, then once more slower so that she could more easily see what it was that was done. When he was done doing this, he turned to watch her do the same.

For now, the reaper was sticking to fairly basic moves, not wanting to overwhelm Hel just yet.

“Ya, ya.” Hel replied, rolling her shoulders. “Not that I have a problem with getting up close.” She continued to watch the reaper demonstrate, and once he was done, she took the time to mimic what he showed her. Basics weren’t bad at all, and Hel felt that she had a firm grasp on it. She knew what she was looking out for as well. The weight of the weapon was different, the shape was different, and her body needed to act accordingly to it.

Which meant…

“Okay Shun, let us get into the heavier stuff already!”

Impatient Hel was impatient…and would still only learn her lessons through getting her a** kicked, metaphorically or physically.

"Also do try and keep in mind that you have a second weapon at hand," Shun said a little flatly. Since Hel wasn't used to that he could kind of imagine her only using one or the other. And he soon gave her a somewhat critical look as she voiced her impatience.

One did not master a new weapon in one day.

After a bit of thought, he turned towards her and crouched down into his usual stance, shifting so that both blades were reversed. He said nothing. He doubt he would have to. But he wanted to see if Hel really had grasped the basics just yet, especially with only having struck the air for a few minutes.

Trial by fire.

Or blades in this case.

“What do I look? Stupid?” The answer to that question was always going to be yes. Hel knew she had two in her hands, sheesh!

She just grinned at his critical look though, twirling one of the blades in her hand by the handle, right up until he got into position. He was correct. No words needed to be spoken. The blade stopped spinning and Hel grasped the handle, crouching as well and holding one blade out in front of her, and the other off to the side. Really, Hel learned best by ‘trail by fire’, she was just that type, and she wasn’t intimidated by the fact that Shun was very much the master and in his element in their little battlefield.

Hel being Hel, of course, was the first to make a move. She lunged at the reaper, and took a swipe at him with the blade that she held before her.

As expected, her form was not what it should be. Shun was easily able to lean back some to avoid getting cut. Shaking his head, he considered just how he should go about this. If he went all out against her, she wasn't likely to learn a whole lot. And given that he was using his real blades rather than a practice set, that would just end up with her being sliced up with... not much else.

And so he decided to not quite hold himself back, but to give verbal cues on what she should be doing. After her attack, he went on the offensive. If her brain didn't register what he was saying, she was likely to get cut. He didn't say things before he struck. He did it while he was in the process of doing so.

"Dodge."
"Parry."
"Counter."

It was a set of three attacks he had done. The first was a horizontal slash towards her midsection. It was then followed up with a strike from his second, then once more with the first.

Despite his words…Hel was not quick to follow right now. She didn’t dodge the first strike, and it cut into her clothing, but luckily not into her skin as she was wearing chain mail today. She got enough motor skill going to parry, though it was sloppy at best, and done with the steeled bottom of her boot, and she couldn’t even counter, as she ducked to dodge the third strike. All in horrible order, but this was how she was going to learn.

While she was low, though, she did make a swipe for his legs with the blade.
