Name: Julian Vayne
Nickname: Jules
Age: 24
Birthday: July 17
Sign: Cancer
Gemstone: Moonstone
Blood Type: B+
Fav. Food: Anything with cream in it, like fetuccine alfredo or butter chicken. Smooth and delicious.
Hated Food: Any kind of fast food, TV dinners, pretty much anything he doesn't cook.
School: Does not apply.
Hobbies:
Wine-Tasting: - As the son of a prolific winemaker, Julian spent his life being groomed to take the reins of the business, and one of the ways he was initially introduced to it was through wine-tasting events. As a result, he now organizes and hosts these events himself, without his father constantly overseeing him. He'll commonly organize the events at brewery locations, and seldom at his house. They're typically public affairs, and he spends ample money on advertisement to attract new and unusual customers. Ultimately it's become an endeared hobby, and a means to socialize with the citizens of Destiny City.
Glass-Blowing: -- Baubles, bowls, glasses, vases... He's blown them all. Occasionally one will find a few displayed in his house somewhere, but for the most part, they end up as gifts to friends and acquaintances whose company he cherishes. Typically he aims for the elegant, windswept look, but sometimes he'll deviate from the norm and opt for something more avant-garde. Sometimes it doesn't work out, and the glass shatters satisfyingly before it's swept into the recycle bin. Despite the end product being a failure, the journey to that point was still interesting and relaxing. He often uses public workshops for glass-blowing, as he lacks the space and amenities to do so in solitude. Besides, it's much easier to come up with new ideas with an instructor or fellow enthusiasts hanging about.
Typically he doesn't keep many of his creations on hand, as they take up too much space. He'll sometimes donate them - if there's a fundraiser involving some kind of scavenger hunt, he'd gladly provide a few of the glasses as some kind of consolation prize. Sometimes he'll present a few to good friends. Only a select few pieces are saved, and usually displayed in a cabinet or on top of a bookshelf.
Jewelcraft: -- That's right, Jules makes jewels. To be more accurate, he makes jewelry. It's becoming a minor side business, something he doesn't devote a lot of time pitching sales for, but it's a good use of time and requires ample concentration. He typically creates more ornate designs, like embellished (fake) sapphire necklaces or complicated cubic zirconia rings. He's no professional, and due to that he's disinclined to spend money on bona fide jewels, but he can make some decent costume jewelry. Sometimes he'll donate some of it to high schools - their costumes in plays could use a bit of color to them. Other times, if someone confides in him that they wish they could find a ring or bracelet to match their prized outfit, he'd try his hand at making it. He's not the best, and he's looking into making more abstract pieces to cater to a niche market, but he's certainly open to discussing designs and small commissions with anyone who has an interest in what he does.
Primarily he obtains his materials from online sites, but if he can find a local source for cheap gems and decent settings, he'd much prefer to circulate his money within the city. Has he found a shop like that? Not yet, but it won't stop him from looking.
Virtues:
Socially Graceful -- He sits up, exhibits excellent table manners, knows how to hold himself, and on top of that doesn't often suffer from a slip of the tongue. Julian speaks eloquently, even bombastically. Perhaps it's a side-effect from growing up with a winemaker who threw a plethora of tasting parties, but regardless of that, Julian knows how to behave himself in public. He doesn't make a scene, he won't actively try to insult anyone, and he strives to provide proper hospitality. This most often applies to large parties or groups of people - when he's one on one with someone, he's more apt to let his hair down, but he still maintains a measure of grace.
Even-Tempered -- Tell him he sucks, tell him his family's wine tastes awful, tell him you hope his car blows up - Julian will take all those insults in stride. It likely had something to do with being from a family that put itself into the spotlight. Maybe it's because he's heard it all before. Either way, Julian won't react in rage or retaliate against someone for insulting him, and he's not quick to become irritated when his patience is tested. He won't throw a fit when he's in pain. Overall he's pretty calm through a variety of situations, and is rarely ever frazzled. That's not to say he can't be angered, but the means by which he expresses that anger is very mild.
Fastidious -- Working with wine requires attention to detail. One has to monitor the composition of the soil for the grapes, the age of the wines, make sure the barrels remain completely undisturbed, all that jazz. Jules learned it all, and took quite a liking to the depth and detail involved in winemaking, and quickly applied that same fastidiousness to his everyday life. If someone was coming over, he'd arrange minutia just so he could maintain an appropriate ambience, or he'll spend a couple hours looking over label designs for a new wine to adjust small details. He'll even arrange his food in a visually appealing way, or organize the junk drawer to be more user-friendly.
However, his fastidiousness does not stop there. He'll also pick up on minor details, such as a price discrepancy on certain items at the store, or a new scarf in a friend's ensemble. Details make up the larger part of life, and he takes the time to recognize them for what they bring to the table.
Flaws:
Disinterested -- Julian gets bored. If conversation takes a turn toward something more mundane, he'll lose interest and mentally drift off. If asked about something that doesn't interest him, he'll respond in curt, one word answers or simple black and white statements and hope the conversation moves on, or he'll change it himself. Why should he have to suffer through idle chit-chat about the new school policy, or a news scandal he'd already heard about four times prior?
If asked to participate in a party or an event that bores him, he'll simply decline the invitation. The only exception he'll make is if he agreed to sponsor the event. Otherwise he won't subject himself to needless suffering.
Haughty -- Oh, you're not rich? You don't go to dinner parties? You dress in poor taste? Julian won't associate with people who he considers socially inferior. If they lack the proper social symbols, he's not going to bother with approaching them or responding much to them. Chances are they lack the education and finesse to appreciate his company, so why waste it on them? If pressed for conversation, he'll respond curtly and be on his way, whether he needs to leave or not. He won't waste his presence on the average joe.
Persnickety -- The only problem with paying attention to detail is that Julian often gets lost in those details. He'll lose hours to menial tasks, like rearranging the house just so, or try in vain to get a swirl of color into a glass in the exact shape he was looking for. Often times it's difficult for him to disengage from what he's fixated on. He might end up late to a dinner party because he was designing a wine label and spent far too long on adjusting the font. He might fixate on a particular headline in a newspaper and irritate his friends due to his inability to switch gears and keep up with the current topic of discussion.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: Narrow eyes, with plenty of lashes. His eyes are a reddish brown - similar to coagulated blood? I don't know how else to describe it. RUSTY BROWN
Hair: White, waist length, with loose curls that taper to waves. If you need an example, check out Alucard of Castlevania's hair.
Face: An androgynous face shape, features that are borderline feminine. Straight nose. Lips are a bit pouty. A wee bit on the pale side.
Clothes: Typically a tailored suit, tan, with a white scarf and navy blue dress shirt underneath. White scarf is sometimes swapped out for a white tie.

Knight Title: Borealis, Page of Mercury Challenge: Shall we? Uniform: This is going to be a tough one, as I'd like to leave a lot of it up to the artist! One thing I will say is I absolutely loved Lina knight's outfit, and I am looking for something akin to that, but in mostly white with some kind of ice blue glowing accents. Something with a tasteful amount of fur, maybe? ICE TRON ALL THE WAY PLEASE. Weapon -- Page: Plain old earmuffs. The kind that would do wonders in a cold climate. They should wrap around the back of his head rather than the top. He could throw them at the enemy and hope they trip on it, but otherwise worthless in battle. Squire: Moderately more high-tech looking ear covers, that look like they're probably used for hearing sonar or something. Sort of like headphones? Still useless in battle. Knight: Ornate, high-tech ear covers that have a small transmitter extending skyward on one ear. Unfortunately it's still not a good weapon for attacking! Magic: -- Page: Lol what magic Squire: After pressing his hands to his 'headphones', a high pitched beeping is emitted, and moments later a 2 foot diameter high-tech grid appears on the ground beneath a target's feet (must be within Borealis' sight, must also be within 15 feet of him) and a few seconds later, disorienting sound is blasted up at them. The grid will also follow the target. This can be channeled, or canceled and recast until his magic pool is depleted. If the target breaks Borealis' line of sight, it cancels the attack. It most likely distracts or interrupts an enemy, and does no bodily harm. Available magic pool: 20 seconds. Knight: After pressing his hands to his 'headphones', the transmitter flickers and moments later a 5 foot diameter high-tech grid appears on the ground beneath a target's feet (must be within Borealis' sight, must also be within 15 feet of him) and a few seconds later, high-decibel disorienting sound is blasted up at anyone within the grid. The grid will also follow the target. This can be channeled, or canceled and recast until his magic pool is depleted. If the target breaks Borealis' line of sight, it cancels the attack. It will distract or interrupt enemies, and causes mild bodily harm (headaches, nausea, the target can probably feel it in their teeth). Available magic pool: 45 seconds.
Summons Creature: A horse with icy hooves and mane, with a technologically advanced saddle that has gears that can whir into action when its magic is used. Summons Ability: As long as the horse is near Borealis, it can enshroud him with a high-tech spherical shield. It lessens the intensity of attacks made against him, and mitigates damage. It reduces 60% of a first stage character's attack, 40% of a second stage character's attack, 20% of a third stage character's attack, and only 10% of a forth stage character's attack. It does not prevent damage altogether. Alternatively he can be used as a classy mode of transportation.

Annnnd ready for crits
What I am hoping for: - Crits on the knight side, from weapon to powers. Never done this before, don't know if I'm doing it right! - Suggestions for powers, not sure I'm completely happy with these! - Crits on his civ side if his virtues and flaws don't seem right

Hi Strick! Jules seems like a neat character – and his name amuses me forever – so let’s get going on this crit!
ON THE CIVILIAN SIDE:
Hobbies – Just a few fiddly things here! Does he sell his glass-blowing materials? You mention he doesn’t keep them around, but what does he do with them? Also, I’d like to know a bit more about the social aspects of his hobbies! They don’t all have to be super-social, of course, but a lot of the time hobbies are used as jumping off points for RP – so does he go to classes for glassblowing or jewelry-making? Is he willing to chat with people in the places he goes to buy his supplies? Just looking for a few more ways his stuff can be social. Obviously the wine-tasting already is and it’s pretty much great!
Virtues- These look fine! They’re all things he might be admired for and they seem pretty well-rounded-out to me.
Flaws – Again, really great! I love how they mirror his virtues.
ON THE POWERED SIDE: His uniform is mostly CC so there’s not a lot for me to look at there; I also think that tech-y headphones are both a cute and appropriate Mercury weapon! Good stuff. C:
Unfortunately, while the Knight Info Thread doesn’t appear to be updated with this info, according to the new Knights 2.0 information, Knight spells can now only upgrade, not diversify (see here)! So you have one spell that gets stronger, not two.
If you want to try and hash out some power ideas together, you can PM me or go ahead and add me on AIM; terra.cooper. I'd love to try and work something out with you!

thanks a lot for the crit, song! i made some adjustments to the two hobbies you mentioned to clarify how they can be used for interactions. glass blowing should end up the more social one, and jewelcrafting is more social in its end result rather than the method. i hope i made that clear! if not, lemme know.
thanks a lot for giving me that link! i didn't even think to check there when i wrote this haha. i changed his magic based on one of your suggestions and i'd like to hear your feedback on it, since i was kind of taking a shot in the dark with it! same with the summon. if it doesn't work out, i can certainly change them again.
