Something I was talking about with a friend earlier tonight while we were watching Netflix was, "Why do they have a Gay & Lesbian category?" At first it seems like a no-brainer. But when you think it about it's kind of funny that they would need to put those in an entirely new category. Couldn't they just put them in their respective places?
I mean, you don't see a category called "Black Comedies." That'd be considered racist. So, should it be If its a romance movie put it under Romance, if its funny put it under comedy?
Just thought it was interesting. What do you guys think?

The content on Netflix (and other sites) is categorized in order to make it easier for the viewer to find what they're looking for.
The LGBT category is there so people can quickly and easily find movies/shows that focus on LGBT characters or issues. The content can then be filtered further by subgenre.
I frequently see users asking for recommendations for LGBT-themed movies, and I've gone looking for them myself. *shrug*
By the way... I just did a search on Netflix for the words "African-American", and it asked me, "Did you mean African-American comedies?"
The search results included stand-up routines by Eddie Murphy and Kevin Hart, as well as shows like Diff'rent Strokes and Good Times, plus a bunch of movies...
So while it might not be prominently listed with the other genres, Netflix apparently does have a category for black comedies... razz
