Akilae was on his way back home from another scouting trip and was still about a day and a half's walk away from home. For the moment he was perched atop a hill overlooking the lake Koralifel. It had been a strange feeling, eating his lunch and yet feeling the lake's presence even from the distance. In a way it pleased Akilae as only Oblivionites were effected by the lake. He was not of pure blood but that side of him was still strong enough for the connection to exist. On the other hand the lake's aura was not a pleasant one and it made something in his stomach tighten uncomfortably.

Not quite ready to continue his trek homeward Akilae had pulled out his harmonica and began to play an old familiar tune. It was a lullaby his mother had sung to the young hybrid boy when he had been smaller. The tune was of dovaa origin and one of the few facets of that culture his father had allowed into the household deeming it to be of no real consequence.

While Koralifel's essence filled him with unease the lullaby soothed his nerves a bit and served as some much needed practice. Akilae had been too busy lately to spend much time on music.

Souldul, the place gave Esmeralda the creeps. Her hunt for a Diabi dragon had failed, and now she was returning back home. She couldn’t survive another night by herself in this dark place, and was planning on taking the fastest route back. Usually water gave Esmeralda comfort, which was why she’d headed for Lake Koralifel. She’d heard strange things about the lake, such as the power emanating from the lake which only the Oblivionites could feel. To Esme, the lake only gave off a creepy feeling because of how dark it was. There was also no asking any Oblivionite how they felt on the subject, she didn’t know any and didn’t plan on befriending any of them either.

It was the sound of music that pulled Esmeralda away from her chosen path, she was curious considering usually this place was empty and quiet. Not wanting to disturb whoever it was playing, Esmeralda hid amongst the trees and bushes as she tried to follow the sound of the music. It led her to the base of a hill that was overlooking the lake; she couldn't make out who was on the hill so she went around and went up. Esme tried to make it as close as possible without getting caught, it would probably be better to figure out who or what was on the hill before she approached anyways.

Esme got close enough to finally make out some details of the person making the music. The blue hair with those green horns and black skin stirred an old memory, and Esmeralda smiled as she recognized who it was. She’d never thought she’d see him again. After all, the world was a large place and it had been a little while since she’d last seen him. It was odd seeing him here in Soudul embracing his other half, but then again he was also half Oblivionite and it should have been expected…

Esmeralda felt conflicted by the sight, younger she’d been much to open and too willing to make friends with anyone that was Dovaa. She’d wanted that connection she’d lost when she’d given up the Battler path and Tyrok had been so nice to her. Now older, she understood the war much better, understood the cruelty of the world in a way that meeting him now would be even worse for her reputation. Dragon sympathizer meeting with a Hybrid, she’d get banished or worst. Would he even recognize her? She’d changed since they’d last seen each other, what if he was totally embracing his Oblivionite side and attacked her?

The questions rolled around in her mind, but she wanted to know. Esmeralda made her way over to him, raising her voice over his music so he could hear her. “Long time no see Tyrok.” For precautions she stopped some paces away from him, hands clasped together in front of her as she tried to look as non-threatening as possible just in case

Akilae had noticed the approach figure, before she spoke but not as soon as he would have liked and he blamed it on how the nearness of Koralifel still unnerved him. Violet pupils had roamed over the stranger's body and Akilae had been surprised to see it was a Peiso dovaa approaching. The young boy had been even more shocked when he had placed the features of the woman to an old memory just as she spoke. Esmeralda! How strange to see her here and that she remembered him. It filled Akilae with glee that he'd been worth remembering and he shoved away the voice in the back of his mind that said it was only because who would forget meeting a hybrid.

Akilae had stopped playing after she spoke and lowered the harmonica to let it rest in his lap for the moment. "Hello Esmeralda, you've grown up," he replied, stating the obvious. "Did you know the song I was playing?"

Good he remembered her! A smile bloomed on Esmeralda’s lips and she took it as a sign to approach him. Walking over, she took a seat beside him and leaned back to put her weight on her arms. “Yes, it has been quite some time.” She murmured quietly as she gazed at the lake before glancing at back at him. “I did not sadly; I can’t say I am very good with music.” Heck, most of her studies were done in completely silence, and if she wasn’t out on the field observing she was in the library and only silence greeted her there as well.

“How have you been? You’ve grown up some too!” It dawned on Esmeralda that she had no idea how old Tyrok was. “How old are you anyways?” She didn’t think he could be older than her, but you never knew! She’d seen young looking people and they were her age.

"I'm twelve now so a little bigger but not too much." Both of his parents were fairly tall and Akilae was anxiously awaiting a growth spurt that would mean he might one day also attain that height. Beyond that he found it hard to notice when he was growing because he saw himself every day and he always looked the same to himself. his mother had claimed that once he was permitted to take Ysali as his clan he would likely see a rapid amount of change as young dovaa in her family tended to mature quickly after that point.

"I have been good," Akilae stretched as he replied to an earlier question. "Mostly I just have lots of lessons." When he wasn't out on scouting duty he was in weapons training or learning more advanced things about the geography of the various continents. Politics too was a subject all novices regardless of division were expected to become proficient in. There were very few moments in Akilae's days when he had nothing to do.

"What about you?" Esmeralda likely had far more interesting things to say than he did.

Ah, so he was four years younger than her. “I’m sure you’ll hit a growth spurt soon enough and then you’ll be even taller than me.” She chuckled softly, she herself was 5’8” but Esmeralda had stopped growing or so her mother kept telling her.

“Hm well.” A lot had happened since she’d last seen him. “Well I graduated first of all, became an adept. My research on Peisio dragons was actually recognized and people take me a little more seriously than before. My family is having another baby, so I’ll have a sibling…” Esme still didn’t know how she felt about the whole baby thing. “And I’ve been out on my own most of the time, sorta got good at avoiding people when I’m out.” Bands of warriors were not a good thing to run into when you were a young Dovaa in unfriendly territory, plus it helped her get much closer to the dragons if they didn’t catch her.

“And now I was after a Diabi dragon, but I don’t feel safe in Souldul so I’m going back home for a bit.” Granted Esmeralda also missed having people around she could talk to, she found solitude to be quite unpleasant especially in Souldul. “Lots of boring research things, my life isn’t as exciting as a warriors, but I like doing this much better. That’s pretty much it.” While a life of adventure was all fun and games, she knew she could never follow in her parent’s footsteps and would probably end up at a desk with some scholar job, kids at home and a husband. Boring, much too boring even for her, but at some point she’d have to settle down. “So what are you doing in Souldul?”

"I live in Soudul, just not in the capital," Akilae's reply was light in tone, free of any of the malice an angry hybrid might have at banishment. A little fidgety he turned his harmonica over and over in his hands as he spoke. " Soudul is not a safe place, it's smart to feel scared." Dragons were far from the only dangerous creature that walked these lands and even Akilae had to be careful of where he went and when.

"I do not think Soudana would appreciate a dovaa trying to study her dragons." Here there was an edge of warning to Akilae's voice accompanied by a frown. He could not force Esme to give up on her pursuits but he didn't like the idea of a non oblivinite trying to discover all the secrets of his goddess' creations. "I won't help you with that." It was fine to walk and talk with her or to observe other dragons but Esme would find no aid in Akilae when it came to her Diabi studies.

" I wouldn't want a sibling," though the threat from moments before hunt in the air Akilae was making an attempt at least to switch to a more nuetral topic. His parents were not planning on more children and Akilae was glad of it. He had so much to prove still and did not need more competition.

“I thought you lived elsewhere.” Of all the places for Hybrid to be, Souldul was the last place Esmeralda thought she’d find one. She wasn’t one to judge where one made their home, she found it hard to believe a Dovaa mother would allow her son to reside in such a place. Then again, she didn’t know Tyrok’s father and he could very well be the reason why they were staying in Souldul. It took some great dedication Esme thought, to stay here with the Oblivionites even if one stuck out like a sore thumb. Then again, maybe he had no father; she hadn’t asked and was coming to many conclusions.

His next words made her narrow her eyes at him, and she sighed angrily in reply. “Soudana is not the one who made me. You’re quick to forget Abronaxus it seems… Your other half.” Was he so quick to forget that he was a Hybrid and Abronaxus also played a role in his destiny? This type of dispute is felt was why the war was on going now. As much as she wanted to stay neutral, it was hard now with his words not to take sides even if it was her own.

“I don’t need your help; I don’t need anyone’s help.” She almost spat the words out at him with venom, his words hurt her; she’d told him people made fun of her. And while her parents had been supportive of her choice to not partake in any war, Esmeralda felt like the only reason they were having another child so many years after her was that she’d been the biggest failure of the family. This was a reminder she didn’t need, never trust a Hybrid they say, and Esmeralda was starting to see why. Pushing herself forward, she brought her legs up and wrapped her arms around to hug them. “Well neither do I.” Was her only angry response to him before falling into a brooding silence.

Akilae had bristled at Esmeralda's anger, he would fight her if he had to. She was older than him and bigger but that meant little if she had forgotten how to fight.

"Abronaxus' people would not let me set foot on their plane." He growled, getting to his own feet. "I have never hurt a dovaa in my life but I would not be welcome to walk among people like you. I am not given even a chance."

The boy's hands clenched into fists and he ground his teeth in agitation. "I cannot enter the Obsidian city but no one has tried to make me leave Soudul." There were places he wasn't welcome to be sure and others where he got strange or withering looks but there had not yet been any violence against him or attempts to track him down and forcibly remove him from the continent.

Not to mention that the Oblivionites of the Order treated him as one of their own. He served Soudana and he did his best to be useful which was enough for their approval. He would never be the same as them because his blood was not pure but he was not a true outcast.

Dovaa and their culture were mostly a great mystery to Akilae. His mother did not speak of her people often and not until after the final battle could he set foot on the celestial plane. The other races said Soudana was cruel and merciless but it was Abronaxus who allowed his people to segregate themselves away from the rest as if they were better and cast away their hybrids to fend for themselves on other continents as if they did not exist then.

What Tyrok said was true, it didn’t help that he was half Oblivionite because she’d seen an Orderite walking about selling her wares quite freely in the city with special permission of course. Esmeralda felt guilty that her own people felt so neutral about the war yet discarded Hybrids so easily without a second thought to them. They were still part Dovaa, didn’t that count for a little something? Esme sighed softly relinquishing her anger. “You can sit down… I’m not going to fight you. Even at your age you’d probably beat me up.” She realized that it was a sad fact if she couldn’t protect herself even from one much younger.

“Does your mom ever talk about the Dovaa and their history, or even about the Oblivionites?” Maybe he was getting all angry because he didn’t know. He didn’t know that Dovaa’s were meant to be neutral and that Obliviontes were quite the opposite. It was interesting though; too see such opposition in someone. Esme wondered how Tyrok may have been different if he’d been raised in the Astral City, accepted by the Dovaa and not living with the constant reminder that he was banished from the place. “Have you ever tried going to the celestial fortress?” Esmeralda had heard plenty of stories about random strangers just popping in through the vortex, it made her wonder if any Hybrids had tried to do such a thing in the past and what kind of welcome they might have received.

Despite the invitation to sit again Akilae remained standing, he did not trust Esmeralda and would rather be prepared to strike if a fight broke out. Instead the boy glared down at his companion although a tiny bit of tenseness exited his posture for the moment.

"Even if my mother took me to the city we would never get passed the guards, it is not worth it to even try," he grumbled and crossed his arms irritatedly over his chest. Only in the future would he meet that side of his family and learn more about dovaa culture or what it had been before the dovaa became the Oblivionites servants.

"My mother taught me the song I was playing, she said is was a dovaa lullaby," he replied with a thoughtful look on his face. "She tells me what I need to know about that part my body, she will help me pick a clan but beyond that it doesn't matter ." Akilae sighed and kicked at the dark sandy dirt "I can never be a dovaa because who would recognize me?" There were rumours and rare cases of a hybrid being accepted by a racial leader after performing great feats and thus being allowed to enter and live within a main city. So far as he knew those hybrids with dovaa blood had the hardest time since they had to do something truly amazing to get the notice of dovaa who were sealed away in their own private world.

No that Akilae was secretly yearning for Marcus' approval anyways, he was a child of Soudana and it was in her name that he would fight. Of course he didn't care for Draco Verrano's approval either as the man was something of a controversial topic within the Order and his father claimed he would not be Soudana's favourite forever.

Esmeralda rolled her eyes at Tyrok’s comment; so much negativity was never good for someone. How did he know what would happen if he tried to cross? She wanted to grumble at him and tell him he didn’t know anything if he didn’t try but knew better than to do so, he would surly walk away if she confronted him about it. “If you say so.” How was he supposed to pick a clan if he didn’t go through the vortex? All these questions that she probably would never receive an answer to, her curiosity was going to get her in trouble if she ever ran into someone who wouldn’t stop to hurt her if she got them angry.

“It’s a nice song, I’ve never heard any lullaby’s. I don’t exactly follow in my parents footsteps,” the next part she whispered quietly. “Disgrace to the family name.” Esmeralda sighed heavily, Souldul was making her moody. She remembered her parents dragging her back to bed when the dark scared her, she remembered her mother telling her to stop crying and be stronger when she hurt herself. Her parents were kind; they’d never punished her or forced her to do anything. But they’d been emotionally detached to her, wanting to push her into the real world so she could climb up by herself.

His next words made her chuckle and look up at him; she stared at him without saying a word. She examined his face, his features, scales and horns. “You look like a Dovaa to me.” She turned back to look in front, Esme knew what she saw others did not see. It’s why she studied dragons and other didn’t. “Can you play it again? I want to learn it so I can play it back to my children one day.” She obviously didn’t have any prowess with instruments, but humming it would work just as easily.

Akilae disliked dovaa even more at Esmeralda's comments. Everyone had their place within the order. All children were sorted into divisions when they came of age but not everyone served on the battlefeilds. Even then he had seen blade's who were simply untrainable as anything beyond mere guards but who's culinary skills were unmatched. No one was allowed to be lazy and do nothing but you didn't have to be a warrior to belong to the Order.

Akilae of course an an exception, he was born with a special purpose and to deny or fail at it would be shameful and problematic.

Irritation was overwhelmed by pride when he was asked to play the lullaby again. he didn't get requests to play music too often and never things he had learned from his mother. In return Akilae was impressed that Esmeralda's memory was good enough that should would be able to memorize and replicate it later. His mother had said that sort of thing was a skill some people had, playing and learning by ear instead of reading the notes off of paper.

The boy nodded and took out his harmonica again, a small smile gracing his lips before he began to play.

Closing her eyes, Esmeralda listened to the tune. She studied it hard so that she could burn it to her memory, she realised soon enough that she would need him to repeat it a few more times before she could really engrave it deep within her memories. When Tyrok was finished, she asked him to repeat it again for her. This time though, she focused less and tried to softly hum to his tune. Each time the song finished she asked him for another time, and each time she focused less as she let her memory simply take over freely. Once she was sure she’d gotten it, Esmeralda stood up and smiled at Tyrok. “Thank you for the music lesson, very beautiful. I hope the next time we meet you’ll have grown up some.” She was teasingly him lightly of course. “Until next time!”
