She moved silently through the trees ears flicking as she listened carefully for any sign of danger. Although she and her mother had recently scouted this area just last week, there was something...uncanny in this part of the forest. She really didn't know how else to explain it, but she could swear that sometimes she saw some sort of ghostly figure move between the trees. It was probably her imagination, tricks of the light, birds moving branches, but still it unnerved her slightly.
It didn't help that Zhang, the little quilin mare that had been a fixture in her and her siblings lives for as long as she could remember, had been telling ghost stories the last few nights. Normally Ruada was hardly one to scare so easily, but the strange sights in the woods fed her paranoia.
"If this is revenge for something I did as a foal to Zhang, I'm sorry..." she muttered under her breath to the stillness under the canopy.

It was quite a night for things that might be lurking in the shadows. Silently a figure was moving about the forest passing into a view and then phasing out or appearing to. He was quite a being looking more like his mother than father. His father had been a bright orange but he himself was lacking that color for the most part he was transparent. To strangers he was a ghost in the night since they could see right through him.
Wandering through the forest he kept a look out for anyone that might be exploring in the night. The wind was blowing slightly and his mane was giving him a even more ghastly appearance considering his lion hood. Looking in both directions he proceed forward and noticed someone or something up ahead. Carefully and slowly he observed the figure and waited for there next move.

Ruada's ear flicked as she thought she heard soft hoof beats. Too soft for anyone with some weight to them. Kirin perhaps? Ruada was a bit kirin on her mother's side and knew that when she wanted to she could move nearly silently, but that didn't seem quite right.
"Hello?" she said softly, feeling a bit silly. As far as she could tell there wasn't anyone actually around. Least she didn't see anyone. "Maybe this forest is haunted..." she muttered. "But that's silly...or is it...?" she looked around again and nearly jumped out of her skin as she saw a faint outline of what appeared to be a stallion with a hood on and brilliant orange mane and tail that she was nearly sure hadn't been there a second a go.
"Oh, hello there." she said sounding breathy but smiling. "You gave me a bit of a start, I didn't see you...there..." she trailed off her eyes going wide as the stallion seemed to fade from view and then reappear.

Upon notcing the figure ahead was a mare carefully observed her. She seemed dainty but strong at the same time. She had a saddle of sorts on and he wondered why she would. He himself wore armor but it had been a gift of sorts and was dear to him. He heard to mare call out but he did not answer back not sure of what to do. When she saw him through he could see the shock on her facd. Of course she would be shocked they always were. He nodded at her his eyes searching.
"Hello to you to" he smiled back at her seeing she was. His voice was deep and somewhat growly. "Most dont see me i hardly ever see myself" he grins at her as the scenery is seen through him. "I take after my mother not so much my father" he nods again and looks off into the distance.

Ruada was a bit surprised at the depth to his voice. She didn't know what she'd expected but for some reason she'd thought it would be lighter in tone, but maybe that was being unfair. Just because he was see through didn't mean he had to be light in every facet, and it did suit him.
She took a few steps forward and tried to get a better look at the stallion. Not that being closer or further way seemed to matter, but mentally it did. He cut quite the figure and upon closer inspection she saw his hood was more than that and was in fact the head or what appeared to be the head of a large cat. "So you have parents..." She said absently and loud enough for him to over hear. "I suppose that means you're not a ghost if you have parents..." she realized he could hear her and blushed. "I'm sorry. That was rude of me." she coughed and then looked again at his hood. "Did you kill that cat?" she asked interestedly.

He looked back at the mare and observed her again. She was very pretty he had to admit. He never really talked to anyone considering they always thought him odd and strange. His only friends were the shadows of the night and he longed for a real connection. His father had tought him to be strong and brave while his mother had taught him how to be elusive among other things. He knew how to hunt and how to fight but he hardly had to use those skills.
He then noticed the mare was closer to him and he eyed her. "Your a bit close to what you cant really see" he grins at her "I enjoy the company" he did not mind her being close to him even if it was only because she could not see him well. Listening to her words he nodded "Yes my father was a knight and my mother a hunter of sorts" he had never really been close to his parents always been distant. He was closer to his sister than his brother but he had much love for his family. "Im not sure about what i am really..Me and my siblings were different" Looking around again he smirks "A ghost? Who knows i might be" he laughs lightly "Your not rude i think your funny who knows what i am" he starts making spooky noises then notices her eyeing his hood.
"This cat..? Hmm my father had the heart of a lion" he eyes her again nodding. "I did kill it but not by myself..it was a test and if i failed i would not be worthy to anyone..i had to prove to myself i could do it be strong and brave like my parents"

She had to chuckle at his attempt at spooky noises. "It's far less effective when I can 'see' you, so to speak." she did however take a polite shuffle backwards. "Sorry, again. I know it wouldn't really help me see you any better, but you know my mind seemed to think that being closer would help." she said shaking her head amused. "I am glad you're not offended. I sometimes say things that put people off. My mother says I take a little too much after my father."
She listened as he talked about his family and about the cat and nodded. "Your parents have high expectations of you? I know what that's like. I'm also a child of warriors." She put out front leg that her horned anklet was on. "This was my own test of worth. Only the best are allowed to wear horns in my mother's culture. Although my sister wears them in the more traditional fashion." she said.
She then went quite for a few minutes and thought back on something else he had said. "Is it lonely then?" she asked. "Living between the light and the shadows?" she finished tilting her head slightly to the side.

He had always been more of a trickster and he still was as an adult. He eyed her and laughed. "Now you see me.." he comes into view as best he can standing in a sunny spot trying to get it to hit him just right. "Its always hard tying to make myself better visible" he looks odd stepping back and forth moving his head still trying to get in a good position. "Is that any better? You should know i still enjoy the closeness.." he offer her a gin "It always helps to be closer to those your getting to know..unless they want to eat you" he looks around now "We take after the best influences in life..the ones we were most influenced by..i guess for you it was your father as your saying"
"My parents always wanted me to be something more..i was a very adventurous foal but i lost some of that. I never felt the calling to be a warrior ..i am more like my mother elusive" he eyes her leg and notices the bracelet nodding "What animal did you slay? It looks like some sort of wild animal of course..the spikes..oh i mean the horns" he gets embarrsed but keeps talking "Its quite lovely..you have siblings to? What is the traditional way or wearing your trinkets?' he gets caught up in more than one question and then goes quiet. "Lonley..sometimes it is not many approach me..i wish i could get noticed more often"

She nodded. "A bit." she then smirked. "A wise assessment." she then grinned wider. "I promise I won't try to eat you, although I have been known to bite." she winked then laughed and considered the influences of her parents on her. "If that's true...I guess then my father contributed the most to my personality: the bluntness, a sense of duty and honor. In looks though I'm more similar to my mother, and she is the one who trained me to track and how to fight."
She went quite as he talked about when he was a foal. "I've always loved to explore. I suppose that's why mother picked me to train as a scout. And never anything wrong with being elusive. Been a few times I wish I was like you, and didn't have to worry about someone seeing me. I can move quietly, but you've got me beat hooves down." she said with a nod. "It's not that kind of trial, it's more of a survival test, Mother took me up into the mountains where one of our herd members is from and then left me. I had to get home all on my own." she looked down at her anklet. "They're bison horns, least mine are. My mother had to do some negotiating to get them for me and my sister. Mother's are different though, I'm not sure what they're from, and traditionally they're worn around the face, two to the sides, and then two at the back of the head or in any combination of that."
She nodded when he asked her about her siblings. "An older sister and a younger brother."
She frowned and resisted the urge to nudge the stallion. She wasn't sure how solid he actually was and it felt a little invasive for someone she didn't even know the name of. "Well I noticed you. I hope that counts for something." she said with a half smile. "By the way, my name's Ruada, Ruada Flew. I just realized I hadn't introduced myself." she said blushing slightly.

Quote: Lady Argentum Draconis Wrote: "You dont look the type for eating others..though you never can really tell" he eyes her carefully but knows she is not the type "If your known to bite..im known for fighting off things that do" he smirks at her "Your parents sound brave a nobel much like my own. The blood of our parents and those before them run through them..warrior blood is a strong thing..as we start our own familys the blood only runs thicker and the next generation is stronger than the last" he nods at that knowing it to be true "The hardships out parents went though are passed down to us but once we find a way over them the way is clear for the next generation"
He becomes quite as she does and listens to her next words. Her life seemed to similar to his own. Two warriors who might not have wanted the responsibility passed down to them. "We are so much alike..it is strange how similar our families seemes to be in belief and lesson..i notice you wear a saddle upon your back..does it mean something?" he glances at her "You may think being half invisible is a good thing but in part its also a downfall. I have gotten used to it but when i was little things were..strange" he considers his next words "Survial? I congratulate you for finding your way home and not getting spooked by the things in the forest. That is a test to pass as a foal a real test of worth...I have never seen a bision but i know they are beasts not to be bothered" he nods and keeps talking " Perhaps your mothers horns are also from some great beast..my mothers mother was from a land far from here perhas your family goes back to"
On the talk of siblings he relaises she was from a family with two mares and a stallion. "I have a younger sister and an older brother..the oppsite of you. I was closer to my sister though even though i was always foolish..i used to play jokes on her but she would always get me back. My brother was always distant and he left when he was old enough to do something of his own." he is drawn into the past before her next words "Thank you then for notcing me..Ruada tahat is a nice name. I am Keiron..normally we have titles like my father but i grew tired of mine and i am just Keiron"

Ruada thought about that. She'd never considered the impact of her parent's lives and her own and how they would affect her future foals. Then again she hadn't actually considered having foals yet either. She'd yet to meet that special someone and while her parents were the product of an arranged union, that had taken years to finally come to fruition, were hardly about to inflict that upon their own children. "I hadn't ever thought about that before..." she said quietly still thinking it over. "Although I think the biggest challenge my mother ever faced was making my father realize he loved her back..." she shook her head. "Ignore that, thinking out loud." She said with a smile and tossing her forelock out of her eyes.
She looked him over and considered. "You don't look like you're from either herd my parents were originally from, but that doesn't mean anything. It's good to know though that there are other families out there that believe in things like duty and honor and want to share them with their children." she glanced back at her saddle then back at him. "It's a good place to hang things when you're out and about. I really don't have a good reason for it except my parents have them, and it just sort of came with the anklet when I came of age." she shrugged.
She laughed then. "Oh I was scared a lot of the time trying to get home on that trip, but I knew rationally the only way to be safe again was to toughen up and get home again. It also helped that I knew a few tricks from the mountain mare that lives with us."
She looked down at her own horns and then back up. "I think my mother's were heirloom and from something called an elephant...see her herd used to actually have the horns attached to their faces, but blood thinned and they don't appear like that anymore at least for her family. I hear there are other families that managed to remain more 'pure' so to speak."
She nodded as he talked about his siblings and then sighed. "Must be nice. I'm not really close with any of my siblings. We all pursued different paths so except for rare occasions our training sessions didn't over lap very often." She blushed and scuffed a hoof at his compliment to her name. "Thank you. Yours is nice as well. Title though? Like what? We don't have anything like that in my family."

He supposed that when he started a family he would push his foals into following there own dreams. Sure he would want them to follow the family linage but he would never want to force them into something they never wanted. His mother had never loved his father not in the start anyways. She was elusive and hard to catch having been scarred by a past stallion. She was wary of his father but being a knight he never gave up on her. Once he finally got her to open up he knew that he had made the right choice. If had let her go he would of never been able to forgive himself. It was a test of sorts to see if a mare like her could ever fall in love with someone like him. "Some things are not thought of often but those are the things we should remember" is nods and lisitins to her words "Thinking aloud..? My mother never loved my father..not for the longest time but he loved her..he would not give up and he won her..in the end he won her over.." he smiles at the thought of an impossible love worth fighting for.
"Blood runs deep we are all connected somehow where else would we come from? Traditions need to be kept alive they should not be allowed to die" he looks at her saddle again agreeing that it would be a good place to put things. "So its not for riding..? You just have one because it was part of your proving? That is something to be passed down..a saddle" he is drawn off again thinking "I am glad you made it back and received honor and everything that goes with it. If you had gotten stuck out there we would not be able to talk of these things" her history was as interesting as his own and he enjoyed that learning of it. "Title..my father is Kamau the one who fights with a hear of a lion. It is a long but noble title that he had to earn. My title was Keiron the phantom..but i do not wish to be someone that is never seen.."

"Truly?" She asked in relation to his parents. "It's nearly the opposite for my own. The only real change is that they were promised to each other by their parents when they were young. Rather than be tied to my mother my father left and wandered to this land. She eventually tracked him down and made him realize he could be with her, love her in fact instead of just respect her like a fellow warrior." she paused. "I like that though...the idea of having to earn someone's respect before you can trust them with your heart." she sighed. "I'm sure lots of people would think that's silly though or too much work." she laughed.
She smiled listening to Keiron. "Thank you, and I'm glad you made it through your own trial as well. It's nice to talk about this sort of thing with someone who understands. I don't think I could talk like this with my parents or my siblings." she gave him a bigger smile. "Keiron the Phantom? It's rather bold and daring though. I kind of like it. I understand the dislike at the whole not being seen thing, but it does make you sound dangerous." she winked. "And some girls like a little danger even if it is only imagined."

"Being forced to love someone i cant imagine what that would be like" he thinks about that "Having your mate decided for you as a foal..that does not offer much of a challenge" he eyes her thinking about her words "I suppose it wold work out that way you would know if it was true love. or nothing more but a set up" he liked this mare and her stories. She seemed to be just like him in a way and also had a somewhat big family. He liked talking about these things with her since she was willing to listen.
He nods at her "Yes i have not met many and stopped to chat. We have many things in common from the way we grew up. Talking to someone else is different from talking to family. Sharing your experiences with someone new shows that there are others like you" he smiles at her the wind blowing his tail "You like that title?" he laughs and makes fun of it "He who is never seen look! its Keiron! the Phantom!" he laughs harder and then gathers himself "Sometimes we have to make fun of ourselves..we cant always be serious" he knows its true "It makes me seem dangerous..? well that is an upside." he ponders for a moment "Your a mare who likes a little danger i can tell"

Ruada nodded. "It does take all the fun out of finding the right person to be with for the rest of your life. On the other hoof though it does present it's own set of challenges. Like learning to deal with someone you dislike. I'm glad they eventually worked things out though." she said. "They really were the proper match for each other, so maybe their parents knew something that they didn't, even though it didn't work out exactly as they planned." she said with a chuckle. It was funny how things worked out sometimes. For one thing she never would have expected to meet someone like Kieron, much less enjoy his company so much and find that they had so much in common.
That made her pause and look over at the stallion again. He really was something else, the whole being only partailly visible thing aside, and from what she could tell was rather handsome. She laughed as he teased himself. "Too true. Everyone needs a reality check once in awhile or a good laugh at one's own expense. Keeps us all honest." she said with a nod. She then blushed hard and turned her head in a way that made her look coy, although she didn't mean for it to look that way. "Guilty as charged." she said. "I hope you won't hold it against me."
