Neena shivered as she walked along, her wings folded tightly, head down as the wind blew the driving rain straight into her face. It was one of those rainy spring days, where the weather reminded you that winter was not long past.

She wanted to fly, but the clouds had threatened lightning, and then her wings had gotten too wet to be any use, and now she was just sloshing along, shaking her mane from her eyes every now and then, willing the rain to stop. Or hoping that she would find some shelter, some sort of cave or something. She was near a sort of cliff like area, and every now and then she would squint through the falling rain, looking for a patch of darkness that would indicate a cave entrance.

So far nothing, and she slowly veered away from the hillside, heading towards a stand of trees, hoping there would be enough with leaves to afford some shelter. She eventually sloshed her way to the trees, and headed underneath, finding a small area where the ground wasn't so damp, the overhead foliage making a canopy of sorts.

So there she stood, dripping, looking out at the falling rain. Neena was annoyed with herself for flying away from her usual area on a day that had promised bad weather since the morning, and grumbled to herself;
'Not likely to be anyone out and about on such a day.'

User ImageThere was a rare beauty in the falling of the rain. It was nature at it's purest. The world was getting a bath, and plants were soaking in the nurturing juices. Moist lands helped prevent future fires too. True the fire made the land reborn but why rebirth now what was still so young? It was a perfect question that was answered by more rain. Zheadeos loved nature his whole life he just hadn't really appreciated it before. I rare peace came upon those who truly appreciated nature in it's fullest loving all of her gifts.

He shook his mane out as he looked out across the forest. He begun exploring again just the other day. He'd left his herd to fulfill the chore of gathering spring berries if they were to be found. He figured the colt of the herd that had been born to the herd over the winter would delight in the berries. He loved foals he had wished he'd spent more time with his nephew when he met him but had gone back on traveling to find his place. He was happy where he had ended up because he was finally apart of something bigger than himself. What was a bonus was that he could at times see his mother.

A nagging within had his cloven hooves moving before he even registered that he was walking through the rain. The trees thinned out about him as he walked along. He had long grown accustom to the often nagging feeling that led him places. He'd just followed it because it always led him where he was needed. It was just in his nature. As the trees thinned he was able to see another cluster of trees ahead. He was sure that was where the feeling was leading him so he allowed himself to move a little quicker while remaining light on his feet. His mane having become thoroughly soaked no longer spiked up and his braid clung to his neck as he moved. It was unfortunate but once his mane dried all would be well. It was merely a spring storm it would pass soon enough. The Lightning had just to let it's dance begin and end and the rain would follow in suit.

Why though would someone be out on such a day if they didn't enjoy the weather? He was sure he wouldn't have a nagging feeling if they were happy so that would mean whomever he was approaching was unhappy. His ears flicked as he caught a grumble from a different direction than he was heading. He halted in his steps confused by the sound. He turned his head trying to find what he had heard and he caught sight of something white hidden among a lot of brown. "Hello?" He called out to see if he could find the source of the noise. The nagging feeling gone completely.

Neena was just wondering when the rain was going to stop - not for the first time that day - when she heard the voice coming from outside the trees she was currently sheltering. She stood for a few moments, going back and forth in her mind about whether she should reveal herself to the owner of said voice, and eventually decided to leave the trees, having decided that the voice sounded non-aggressive enough.

'Hello..' she said, and immediately wished she hadn't left the trees. She was decidedly bedraggled looking by now - wet mane, and wings that made her look like she was a bird that had been dunked in a puddle. He, for the voice owner was a quite fetching looking male, was a Cerynei. And no less, a handsome Cerynei with wonderful antlers.

Why did she keep running into stallions that looked amazing when she looked, or felt like a bird's nest? The spirits had a sense of humour it would seem. She gave him a half-forced smile, attempting to seem okay and at ease, though really she was half-hoping for a hole in the ground to open up and swallow her.

Zheadeos was surprised to see a very brown mare step out from the trees. It was no wonder he had only seen white, the rest of her would have blended with the trees. She reminded him of a bird but she had antlers, they were small but clearly there. He thought back to all his encounters with the Soquili he had seen over his travels and not once had he seen one with wings and antlers. It was very interesting, he'd seen many other mixtures in the breeds.

Before being distracted by details anymore he smiled. "I am Zheadeos, what brings you out on such a stormy day?." He had gotten better with speech through his years but he still didn't usually like the feel of many words on his tongue. She would likely not want to be out in the rain for much longer. With the way the clouds looked it wasn't likely to let up just yet which was unfortunate. He regretted pulling her from her shelter back into the weather. With the occasional breeze of wind the air could get quite bitter.

He had allowed himself to wander back to gathering details. The mare was bejeweled and bedazzled with gems and trinkets, he was sure they would sparkle given sun light. Her eyes even seemed to math the colors of her gems. It was amazing his eyes were a very plain color matching the grey silver of his own mane which would now look more of a dirty grey from the rain. He wanted to offer that she could return to her shelter but if it consisted of merely partial trees then it wouldn't be the best shelter. Especially once the lightning started. He'd seen many trees fall and catch fire in the rain and it was not pleasant.

It was easier after the stallion spoke to feel more at ease; he hadn't chortled at her appearance, nor made any mention of how wet through or mussed she must look. She gave him a proper smile this time, and replied to him.

'Good to meet you Zheadeos, my name is Neena, and I got caught out in this lovely spring weather.' she said, wincing a little as cold water from the end of her short mane braid dripped down her leg. She gave a quick involuntary shiver at the sensation.

'It was my own fault really, I wanted to fly and ignored the signs that the day would turn out like this. And now I cannot fly as my wings are so wet.'

She looked at the stallion, eyeing him in the same way he was evidently doing to her. She wouldn't have agreed about the colour of his eyes, they seemed an unusual silvery colour to her, though she didn't want to be caught staring so instead she spoke up again;
'I don't really know this area well either. Is there anywhere you know of that I could go to dry out?'

Neena sneezed after she finished talking, moving her head away when she felt the nose tingling, and then turned back, apologising with a sheepish smile.
'..Sorry.'

It was hard not to chuckle at her comment about lovely spring weather. She was clearly cold and being wet was not of any help to her. He shifted on his hooves as she spoke further. He could never imagine having wings. He felt water would forever restrict him has it had when he were younger it's a terrible feeling. "Sometimes the day's look like the storm will hold."

He looked around trying to figure the layout of the land with which they were on and nodded. He hadn't been around here in a long time, but he had once came this way to come to the herd so it wasn't so far off that he had traveled this area. His ears flicked when she sneezed and he smiled faintly. "It's quite alright. Sneezing is natural."

He turned his head surveying where exactly they were before he nodded."If you don't mind following me, I believe if we follow the small band of trees you were just in that we will come across an abandoned thicket. It's overhang has been braided and threaded to keep out the rain." He gestured his head toward the outline of the trees she had once hid in. He had never understood how large thickets had ever come to exist but exist they did. He hoped that the rain would break way and the sun that was out the day before would shine bright. He was sure she would shine and sparkle in such a light. One hoof after another he walked toward the trees with the intention of walking along the tree line.

'Well, not today. I'll still hold myself to blame for not heeding the signs.' Neena said, huffing a strand of wet mane out of her face, and then rolled her eyes skywards.
'I'm such a mess..' she said with a snort.

'Sneezing is, almost sneezing in your face, that's not.'
He was being very nice, polite mostly she guessed, but he must have been wondering what he'd gotten himself into and was possibly regretting calling out and letting her know he was around.

Neena took the time he was looking around to look at him some more, especially his fetching antlers. She hurriedly looked away when he faced her again and then nodded.
'I would appreciate that.' she replied, waiting until he was a few steps away to shake herself like a large dog, unfurling and then folding her wings, before trotting after him.

'Do you live hereabouts?' she asked once they had walked a short way together.

Still she was down trodden it was unfortunate. Sorrow and unhappiness were not things unknown to him but he sorely disliked the emotions. They were bleak and dreary like the sky above. It was something he always sought to fix and improve. "Something my sister would say is that a spent avoiding the rain is a day wasted." She didn't love the rain but she did enjoy playing and enjoying her time.

The land stood out against the grey sky of the horizon. The landscape took on a different feeling when the sun wasn't out to brighten moods. One thing could change everything, but that concept was what made the most sense in it all because even without the sun you could make someone happy you just had to be their own personal sun. "I actually live back in the other direction. I live with a herd of others like me.

If you didn't look close enough all the trees would have looked almost all the same, they were all the same kind of tree and were closely ranged in age. There were only subtle differences in them because of weathering and animals. They would need to find where there was a small gap in the tree line that was followed by a larger gap and a long strung branch. "I use to travel a lot when I was younger. It took me a long time to figure out what I wanted. Which was when I found the herd I now call home. I was very fortunate to actually find my mother was among the herd itself." He was glad to have found a solid home. He once called where e was raised home but it had long since been left his siblings off on their own adventures. He figured they would be coming up to the entrance her shortly.

'I suppose..it's just I do so enjoy the freedom of the open sky beneath my wings, that I dislike anything that prevents me from doing so.'
Neena explained, trotting along with him, flicking her deer tail as she went, trying to keep the wet strands of her mane from her face.

It wasn't as if she spent all day, every day on the wing, sometimes it was just for a few minutes, but she felt out of sorts if she didn't get to fly, it always refreshed her no matter what she felt like when she woke in the morning.

'Oh?' she said, ears pricking at the mention of a herd. She wondered what that was like, she was naturally (and usually) a friendly, chatty sort of mare, and she did like her company, but had still to find a place to call home with likeminded Soquili.

'That sounds nice.' Neena said, trying to keep the wistful tone from her voice but it was tricky. She did seem to have a knack for bumping into Soquili that had families and herds etcetera, and she felt like an outsider looking in.

"I can't say that I can relate to such a feeling but I do understand the feeling of being free, but freedom only lasts so long before you long to go home." It was what had happened to him. He had longed to settle back down in one place. He had not been fortunate to meet a mare to settle down with along the way as he had hoped, but he couldn't complain.

He had met many mares on his travels because many had open wounds that drew him. He had seen mares lose children because they left to never return, others that had been abandoned by their mates, some who had been used which was hardest of all to combat. He could never understand how a stallion could do such a thing. In years though he realized while his father had been around to raise him and his siblings he had not in the end stayed with his mother, proof in that she was without him in the herd.

"Yes, I was not expecting to find a herd. I merely stumbled upon it and found that I fit. It is amusing how things fall into place." He smiled nodding his head. He was still new among the herd because he had not been around for very long but it was better than nothing. The rain still fell from the sky but the wind had seemed to die down some. He hoped that it was a sign that the worst had passed.

It mattered naught though, the storm could rage on if it so chose to because Zhea had finally found the trees he had been looking for. "Ah here we go." He nodded toward the tree line where a gap was just wide enough for them. He had not thought about her wings in his process though. He hoped her wings would not get caught. In theory she would have a more lithe frame then him for being a mare but with her wings she would be more equal in size. He could fit though fine with a small bit of room so he hoped she would be fine. "Please be careful though I would not want you to hurt your wings. After you saying you love to fly I would feel bad if any harm came to them." He would find another place were she unable to fit. The entrance was the smallest area thankfully. It was just meant to keep out larger predators so after getting in it grew wider and more spacious.

Neena had often wondered about her slight obsession with flying. It was freeing, it did make her feel better, waking her after a sleep, or cheering her when she felt down. But maybe it meant so much because she didn't have anything more in her life and she gave voice to her thoughts as they walked.

'A home is what I don't have, and maybe I spend so much time on the wing because of that.' she said. flicking a wayward strand of hair from her face. Her mane was being more of a nuisance than normal, and she was eager to get in the shelter.

'You're very lucky.' she said with feeling, though her mood had lightened slightly now they were moving with a purpose and she knew that they would soon be out of the rain. She fell into her thoughts and was silent until Zheadeos stopped at a gap in the trees, moving to take a look at it herself.

'It wouldn't be the first time I damaged them if I did, but I should be okay.' she replied, before taking a few steps away from him and shaking again, before folding her wings and making sure they were as tight against her body as she get them. She pushed into the gap, wincing a little as a branch tugged at a few feathers but she carried on and was soon through, pausing when she was, turning to wait for the stallion.

He didn't like the thought of her hurting herself but she seemed fine enough though. He followed after coming into pathway. Once he moved through the gap he smiled."Hopefully the storm will pass soon, but for now if we continue down this path we will get to a clearing where it opens up" It would still be dark because the sky was dark but it would be warmer than the outside. The moment the sun came out it would brighten up and warm up even more but it was sure to be dry.

It was a tight fit from side to side but there was enough room for the two of them to be able to walk if they chose side by side. "What would you like to do while we wait out the storm? It won't be long before we reach the covered clearing." He enjoyed the nature that surrounded them as they walked. "Do you enjoy nature?"

So sorry this has taken so long. The end of school was crazy and then the process of getting things secured after the fact were crazy.

She'd opened a wing briefly, gave it a little shake to dislodge a leaf and then folded it back against her, smiling at Zheadeos, her mood lifting as they were heading for shelter and she wasn't just standing around, not being distracted from the fact that she was cold and soggy.

'Okay, sounds good.' she said, hastening to his side and walking with him, enjoying the feeling of belonging with someone, even if it was a brief moment.

'We can talk? I'd like to hear about your family if you don't mind?' she suggested. She thought about his question before she answered it.

'Generally yes, when it's not raining on me.' she chuckled.
'The open sky is my favourite generally, and seeing the land from that viewpoint can be very beautiful, rolling meadows, snaking rivers and streams and soaring over cloud topped mountains..so I guess yes would be the true answer.'

No worries, I'm rooting for this pairing so I can be patient hehe wink

It was pleasant to hear she enjoyed nature. She enjoyed and experienced it in a way that was unknown to him but it was still an appreciation to the gifts of nature. She held the birds eye view kept apart from the tough of the forest and the rolling plains she described but he was willing to bet that the view from up above could at times be more breath taking.

She had asked him about his family. That was a big mess when you broke down who all of his siblings were but it was manageable so long as he started with the basics. He couldn't help but chuckle at the thought of how large his family was when he had siblings from breedings that occurred before his parents met. "Well to start with my family, I was raised by my mother and father in a small meadow with my sister Little Wind and brother Rhydain. Rhy, he was a trouble maker and Windy always loved to follow after him excited about the adventure that was going to occur with his trouble making. " He smiled thinking back on their little family. He sorely wished he could see his siblings more often but Windy was happy with her mate and there was no place there for him, and his brother he hadn't seen in a long time, but times with them had never been boring.

"Once I grew old enough to venture forth on my own I left. I always planned to return and settle down, to start a family of my own, but I did not expect to return to my family being gone. I haven't seen my brother since I ventured out that day. After some exploring I found a young colt that reminded me of my sister. It turned out that the young colt was my nephew. My sister had stayed close to home and created a family of her own." His nephew was spunky and curious like his sister but with a firm determination to protect his mother from a harm he could never understand. Ahead he could see the light growing stronger. The would soon reach the clearing.

He would continue to talk to her though. Talking about his family always made him happier even if it made a part deep down sad. He liked to remember the good days it made the loss of them easier to take. He wished he could bring them all to the herd but that would require finding them all and that was easier said than done. "Then upon exploring the lands I found two others that I was related to. I met a beautiful mare that was with foal on a long journey that had the same father as me. Before my mother my father had for other children with a mare that I've never met. The other mare was pleasant as well but had she not guessed who my parents were I would have never known we were related. She looked nothing like my mother taking after her father but because I look so much like my father she inquired. She had two other siblings."

He had a large family in the grand scheme of things but they were broken and distant. "I have my mother now with me in the herd. It was by chance that I stumbled back upon her. We haven't had much of a chance to talk since I've joined but one day I hope to ask her what happened after I left to explore." It was a fairly easy explanation of his family, it didn't include the herd that would one day become an extension of his family but he couldn't explain them, he wasn't close enough to any of them yet to include them.

Neena listened as they walked, nodding along as he spoke. His family life was complicated, his family tree seemed to have a fair few branches, but she would prefer that to the single twig that was the knowledge of hers; it started and ended with her and that was all she knew.

'Sounds like a perfect start to a life.' she said, when he spoke of being raised at home with two siblings. Sometimes she wondered if somewhere out there she had a sister or a brother. Did they look like her? If she did have a sibling, did they wonder about her as well? So many questions..she noticed his face as he spoke of his family, and felt a vague twinge of envy.

'That's a shame that you haven't seen your brother since you left home, but your sister is around, and even more you are an Uncle.' she said with a little smile.
'You returned to settle down? Did that happen?' she wondered if he was happily mated, but just hadn't yet said so. She couldn't imagine him not being so though.

'At least you know of your family, that they are out there in the world. And having your mother with you sounds wonderful.' Neena struggled to keep the emotion from her voice as spoke of his family but it was hard.

'I'm sure one day when she is ready she may tell you.' she didn't know either way, but figured it was the best reply.
