Eons of darkness had been his lot. He had a desperate desire to leave this place of loneliness and see the world which would never be satisfied it seemed. At least he had Cresselia to talk to but everybody else was afflicted by the slight problem of unending nightmares. If he ever left Cresselia's power was needed to dispel the effect so he stayed here on this isolated locale. It was also right next to Cresselia's home, just in case.

He had, of course done much to try and keep from getting too bored but after a few centuries of the same scenery, there really wasn't that much to do. Cresselia never understood because she was always free and encouraged to travel around the world.

One day, he got something to take a bit of the boredom away. Cresselia returned with a lot of Unown, the most Darkrai had ever seen in one place since some ancient king tried using them to reshape the world. (That had ended in fire and brimstone. Darkrai had tried to warn them with nightmares and stuff but noooo, the king kept being an idiot. An entire continent had vanished overnight.)

The Unown had a prophecy and were very excited to tell him all about it. They were worried though, it looked like the world could very well end. As in every single continent. Some idiot was going to try and kill an entire species, the humans. Sure humans had their faults but Arceus had made them for a reason and the world was better with humans and Pokemon. (There was another world for just pokemon but that's another story. Darkrai hadn't talked to the other Darkrai for thousands of years but didn't want to disturb time and space by going to visit.)

He was going to get his chance to see the modern world after all! It was just going to be 400 years.

Boring. After 399.5 years, he gave up on the waiting and left. A note was left for Cresselia but it wasn't very specific.
