Al followed close behind Rep, still holding his breath from embarrassment. He finally lifted his gaze once they left the dorms to memorize the way to this highly spoken of location of food. Hopefully, he won't be forced into becoming too familiar with the kitchen part of it though.

Rep sauntered into the cafeteria as if he owned the place, getting no more than the most passing of glances from the few hunters already having an early snack or a late meal. Thankfully it looked like some competent people had been set on kitchen duty and the buffet was lined with items that looked edible. Someone had even left out clean cutlery and cups.
"Well well, you are in ******** luck man, whoever got landed with kitchen s**t today isn't a ******** mouthbreather."

Al meekly peered around Rep at the buffet and then... zoom! He was immediately on the buffet like a lioness on a zebra calf. He was grabbing a little bit of everything - some of which did not actually make it to his tray. By the time he was satisfied, every square inch of his tray was covered. He had no room for his juicebox which he decided to carry with his teeth. "Dere Foo?"

Rep looked on with slight approval at the way Al went all out for food. Once upon a time he'd eaten frugally, counting calories and trying desperately to keep in shape while resisting the enduring allure of junk food, curries and sweets. It had been ******** hellish, and since his metabolism had kicked up a notch here he'd been one hundred times happier and capable of eating like a horse. It looked like the new guy was just getting a head start on the new method of eating.
He'd already had breakfast that morning himself and wasn't particularly hungry, he settled instead for making himself a hot chocolate - which he produced from one of the many pockets on his jacket - and sitting down, beckoning Al over.
"We'll head over once you eat. Probably should note by the way, most s**t here if you want it and its not standard issue, you need to get someone else to get it. Trainees don't get immediate leave. Sometimes the portals to the outside world go down and then its like prison, you barter s**t."

Al wandered over to where Rep hailed him. He sat his tray down and then his juice and sat himself down right at Rep's side. He was already shoveling a fork-full of food into his mouth by the time Rep spoke. Feasting away even as he hung on every word. Barter huh? Shame Al had nothing useful to offer yet. He frowned before taking another mouthful of food and chewing it over thoroughly.
You can smell?
Al rolled his eyes.

Rep sipped his hot chocolate thoughtfully as Al tucked in, finally giving himself a moment to assess what he was doing. It was always a risk to invest this much effort in someone, particularly someone he didn't know in the least. But you had to throw down a wager on the table to win anything.
There was a distant feeling of approval that wasn't Tracey. He knew how to gamble didn't he, he did it every time he walked into a battle.
Tracey volunteered.

"I'm Rep by the way."

Al's face contorted as he struggled to hurriedly swallow as it was rude to leave the other man hanging. Coughing a bit as he finally got the food down - the wrong tube. He cleared his throat again and offered his non fork wielding hand, "I'm Al."
Oh come ON. It's not a big lie... a new life, a new name - is that really so hard for you to get?

Rep shook Al's hand with a level of unwitting strength that was highly inappropriate for a handshake. "Good to wake you." he said with a smirk.

Al's hand was thoroughly crushed, thanks. He whimpered pitifully as he withdrew his hand as soon as Rep released it. He held his hand close, nursing it.

Rep frowned at Al's reaction, eyeing his own hand with mild irritation. "Er. Sorry like. I didn't mean that man. You get sort of tougher here too and it like, creeps up on you."

Al nodded, making a mental note not to piss Rep off because clearly it might mean death due to not knowing one's own strength. "G-gotcha," He resumed eating while watching Rep. After scraping up the last of what he was certain was chicken he grabbed a soft roll and wiped up the remaining juices before polishing that off too. He was only sad he couldn't soak everything in copious amounts of gravy. All that was left was a large piece of what he hoped to be apple tart.

Rep polished off the last of his hot chocolate and licked off the moustache of froth, all without saying a word, sometimes it was worse when he didn't say anything because it meant he was actually thinking.
"Tell me when you are finished up and we'll head over to the training fields, there's important s**t you should know as soon as possible. I say that because there have been newbies who arrived here in the past the day before s**t really hit the fan and they were lucky to survive. You seem like an agreeable guy, I don't really want to see it happen to you."
He put down the mug. "What did you do before you got here? I'm no prying, your past career just might be useful for you. Mine wisnae."

Al tucked into his tart, taking it a bit slower as he savoured every last molecule of apple goodness. When he was certain nothing was left he tilted his head at Rep. He frowned a bit, "I didn't really do anything... I've never had a job before." Good, vague enough to still be honest.

Rep at this discovery immediately sized Al up, raking his gaze across him. He didn't look like the kind of guy to be on the dole. He wasn't scruffy or street enough, there was something naive and a bit well groomed about him for that. It didn't explain why he'd never had a job. Rich parents maybe, or maybe he was a liar. He couldn't pin down anything but vague hunches.
Maybe, he thought, the guy was just really young, there was a softness to his features he was starting to pick up on a bit, but even that could have been slow development.
"Me either technically." he said with a wave of his hand. "I used to crack games, pirate movies and s**t. Sell them at the Barras and whatever. Officially though I was unemployed. Mostly I just went out to clubs and s**t."

Al froze up under Rep's gaze, holding perfectly still until he was done and then Al could exhale again. "You used to crack games -- do you still have any??" Yeah, it might have been the young thing as the idea of games just filled him with delight.
