A stranger pulled him into his house. The stranger was a master in close-range combat. Gokudera decided if he wanted to survive, he had to train. He trained with the master of souls, teaching him attacks that are quite impressive. Gokudera found Death City, where he bought a house and joined the DWMA. Since then, he's been looking for a partner.
