The light in the sky was fading, the streets vacating, the temperature dropping, and where was Avacyn? Shuffling through job applications in a part of the city that she didn't remotely recognize, not that her memory encompassed more than a two block radius from her apartment. Having only been a citizen of Destiny City for two weeks, she had yet to learn the layout of her new hometown.

As the buildings loomed above her, she shuddered and glanced around the shadowy street. 'Nothing to worry about. I've got GPS,' the pink haired girl thought to herself, pulling her smart phone out of her pocket. 'Great. No battery... Now how am I going to get home?'

Frustration did not entirely begin to encompass Remarque's feelings when it came to powering up. What used to be a casual, enjoyable experience had since become tedious and labored, what with the recent mirrorwraith trouble. He had never before, despite how creepy or belligerent they were, wanted to crush them as much as he did now. It was pure willpower alone that had him going out, and he didn't care what it took, but he'd tame every last one of the damned things before he quit.

…Unfortunately, it seemed the more he tried to summon one, the worst they'd gotten, and he was frustrated and arguably desperate to hit his imposed quota for the evening.

The wraiths seemed more fickle than ever, and while putting them against larger targets had never been an issue before, Remarque didn't want to risk losing one. So he was picking smaller targets.

Which meant the pretty, pink haired girl in front of him was looking just about perfect.

He approached silently, while she was fiddling with some device, and as if a friend, casually stated, "It's probably not the safest thing to do, to wander through here at night. Are you looking for trouble, or lost?"

It certainly wasn't manners, despite how smooth his delivery, that had him speaking; he was sizing her up in the most discrete way he knew how.

Chills shot up her spine as Avacyn turned to face the oddly dressed blonde. Striking up a conversation with strangers wasn't the sort of thing that thrilled her, especially in a dark, abandoned, and poorly-lit street.

She scanned the area for an exit in the case things didn't go well. Of course, in the case something didn't go well, where would she even run? Which way headed back to the main part of town?

"I- I- I'm sorry," Avacyn began to slowly walk backwards from the male while thumbing in the direction behind her. "I need to get home."

"Sorry?" Remarque prompted. "Oh, you don't have to be sorry. I just figured you might like to be pointed in the right direction. You don't look like you have any idea where you're going. And if you continue in that direction, you're not likely to get anywhere safe anytime soon—unless 'home' consists of the homeless camp?"

He gave her a quick look over, banking on the darkness to cloak the oddness of his outfit until he could get close enough to act. "You look a little too well dressed for that, though. If you're lost, I can't rightfully let you wander around in the darkness. Not knowing what I know about this city. I've lived here my whole life, at least let me point you to back to civilization. Where are you heading?" he asked, thumb sliding over the smooth glass of his shard from within his pocket.

Avacyn laughed a little too loudly while nervously kicking at the concrete under her feet. She had a bad feeling about this, but she wasn't going to get anywhere on her own. She sighed, "You're right. I'm lost."

Her brows furrowed as she tried to remember where she lived, "Umm... I think I could find my way back from the University..." She didn't want to lead a stranger to her front door, but hoped she could find her way back from there.

Remarque allowed a smile, deceptively sweet; he kept his distance, as to ensure that the girl was as comfortable as possible without letting her get too far away. "DCU? You're a bit aways. I'll show you a shortcut, you'll be there in less than a minute. Come along," he said, gesturing. He started walking, headed towards a decently well lit area. It wasn't, however, with the intention of delivering her to the university. But she didn't need to know that. There was a break in lighting; a streetlamp was broken out between two widely spaced lamps. It was there that he took the opportunity to unleash the wraith.

While it was dark, his eyes were well trained to the light—and the small glimmering form of the creature he'd summoned. It wasn't one that he recognized, but then again, they rarely were. He watched it with a cold eye, as it did him, before eagerly turning its attention to the civilian next to him. For a moment, Remarque wondered if it was going to try and drain her energy or if it was going to putter off and do its own thing, as they seemed to enjoy of late, but was pleasantly surprised when it rushed through her.

While he suspected she wouldn't have any idea what happened, it was hard to tell who knew what around these parts. He had never had a wraith attack him, though he could hope only that the sensation would be so odd she'd attribute it to late night chills or exhaustion. Out of the corner of his eye he kept an eye on her, though even he couldn’t hide the alarm when he saw how solid the wraith was looking already. It hadn't had time for more than one dart-through before it was swollen and glistening with the distant lights.

Considering the normal amount of times a wraith darted through someone—or the fact that it took several people's energy to give it the consistency this one had, he was easily surprised—and suspicious. There was no denying that the wraiths were acting odd, but despite that, this was new to him.

This made even less sense than them.

Unless this girl was some sort of powerhouse, in which case, the Dark Mirror Court really needed to learn her secrets. He took a step closer to the mirrorwraith, brandishing the mirror as if that alone would summon it away. Preferably before the girl could pinpoint why she suddenly felt drained.

"Thank you," Avacyn yawned. "Excuse me. Guess I've been out here longer than I thought."

A few more steps and her eyelids began to droop. Ten more and she was leaning on the nearest building to keep from toppling over. What had made her so tired all of a sudden? She looked at her escort, then shook her head. She was always paranoid when it came to new people, but what in the world could he possibly have done to cause this?

"I'm sorry, but I've got to rest for a second. I don't know... what's wrong... with... me," Avacyn's speech was drawn out as she fought to keep her consciousness.

Only narrowly did Remarque resist the urge to throw the damn shard at the wraith before it finally seemed to think it was time to go. Remarque wasn't even sure it was because he was telling it too; judging by the way it was waddling, it looked like the damn thing only stopped because it couldn't hold any more energy. It slipped into the shard, even as he approached the girl. "Hold on, let me see. Are you breathing all right, light headed?" he asked, forcing concern into his voice. He was more curious than worried for the girl, and he doubted she could explain what had gone on here.

She seemed like the typical girl—nothing odd about her. He wasn't picking up any strange aura or anything.

She was just ridiculously good for draining, it seemed.

He didn't know how much else she could give, but he had no issue taking her to mirrorspace to find out. "—I can get you somewhere safe, but you're going to have to trust me. I can shortcut to a hospital from there, if need be," he offered, extending a hand to her.

She replied groggily, nodding slowly, "Yeah, just a little dizzy, I guess." She stumbled as she regained her balance.

Her vision still swirled as he spoke, understanding only half of what he said. After recognizing the word "hospital", she took his hand. "Thanks. You know, it's a good thing you came by. I might have just passed out here until morning if you hadn't."

Remarque took her hand and held it gently. "Well, we can't have that. Lean on me if you need to. I'll get us somewhere safe," he said, voice as gentle and soothing as he could manage. He walked at a slow pace, guiding her with him.

"You're going to feel something a bit strange, like jumping into a cold pool. It won't hurt, but don't fight it. Just one step closer to making sure you're all right." He didn't offer her time to protest; he'd been guiding her along so far. They had left the light of the streetlamps, though only by a bit; a mirror was nestled between two large trees. Remarque's pace didn't slow, and right when it looked as though he might crash into the glass, it rippled, and he walked through it. Arm still wrapped around the girl's, he pulled her right through with him.

The change in scenery was spontaneous; they walked into a room with white, strangely smoky walls. This drastic change didn't phase him; he'd seen it hundreds of times. He knew where he was going; he continued to walk towards a set of great, white doors. "Holding up?" he asked, glancing back at the girl now that he could see a bit better.

Avacyn found that a crutch was exactly what she was in need of, so she gratefully accepted his offer. "I really appreciate this," she said slowly, as if each word further consumed her energy. "I didn't mean to be such a burden."

The male spoke of a cool sensation and Avacyn looked very confused at him. Not that she had the strength to pull away in the case something didn't seem right. Her eyes widened as they made their way to a mirror and instead of it shattering into a hundred shards on impact, he continued straight through it and she as well, suddenly feeling the uncomfortable chill she'd be warned of.

She felt as if she'd been dunked in cold water and with that, became more sober and aware of her surroundings: a new, brighter room compared to the dark street they were just on.

'What the hell...'

She quickly scanned the room and the very oddly dressed man who'd helped her to... Where exactly? "Uh, I'm not sure what kind of a trick this is, but I'm not falling for it," Avacyn took an aggressive stance and just as quickly, dizziness took hold again and caused her to cringe. She rubbed her temples as she tried to make some sense out of the situation, "Guess I'm not holding up as well as I thought... I've never hallucinated before."

"Hm? A burden? Oh, no. You're nothing of the sort. Though, no hallucinations prior to this? I imagine this must all seem terribly uncomfortable. Here," he reached over to grab something that didn't seem to exist—until his hand landed on the empty space and a chair, strange and smoky as the walls, formed beneath his grip. "Let me just get you something to sit in while you collect yourself."

The chair was weightless for him, and he stopped just before the great doors. There were probably many ways to get to Ares' throne room, but this was Remarque's favorite; he enjoyed the extra bit of flair.

Shouldering open the grand doors was simple enough, and in doing so, he revealed a room that seemed just a bit stranger than the last. Mirrors adorned the walls, and a great throne sat in the distance. Nearby, stood an imposing mirror; it was hard not to want to stare at it.

Chair dragging silently in one hand and Avacyn's hand in another, he moved deeper into the room before slowing. "Here, this is a safe place. We'll figure all this out in no time. Have a seat, ah…I'm sorry, you have a name, don't you? What can I call you?" he inquired, setting the chair down solidly and gesturing for her to make herself comfortable in it.

"No, no hallucinations before this," she gestured to the room with a flick of her wrist, still extremely confused as to how they had gotten wherever they were.

As Avacyn watched him pull a chair from nothingness, her suspicions seemed justified: This had to be a dream. Chairs don't appear out of thin air and mirrors aren't a form of transportation. There wasn't another explanation for all of this craziness.

But if this really was a dream, she wondered what in the world had she eaten before she fell asleep!

Following the blonde to the next room, she couldn't help gawking at all of the mirrors, but one in particular held her attention longer than the others. There was something about it that she couldn't put her finger on...

His voice caught her off guard. Hopefully she hadn't been staring too long. "Avacyn," she answered as she took her seat. "What should I call you?"

"Avacyn, hmm? That’s a pretty name. You can call me Remarque. Just take some deep breaths, rest up. I'll make sure you get something to make you feel a little more comfortable, just lean back, close your eyes…"

He took a step back from her, not out of a desire to be too far apart from his unique little find.

He turned his back to her; she didn't seem like she was any sort of threat, so it wasn't in anyway the same as turning your back to an enemy. Truthfully, he didn't want her to see the compact he withdrew. Flipping it open and despite being very casual, he spoke in a slightly hushed tone so as not let this girl hear any more than he wanted her to. "Leto. I want you to check something out for me, I need your opinion. I'll need you to meet me in Ares' Throne room. Bring me something sweet—edible. Nothing fancy. Juice, if you can manage. Just don't take too long."

Leto wasn't a fan of taking orders from anyone- in fact, Ares was pretty much the only person she listened to ever. So when Remarque called her on her compact while she was busy trying to take care of her stupid unruly mirrorwraiths, and demanded she meet him in the throne room... Well, she was less than impressed.

With a roll of her eyes and a rather loud huff, she muttered a quick "Yeah, I'll be there in a sec" before snapping her compact shut and trying to call back her wraith.

Juice? What the hell was Remarque talking about? Apparently they were having a picnic in Ares' throne room in her absence. Grumbling under her breath, she finally managed to get her wraith back into it's shard and she quickly slipped through a mirror, out of another in her living room, grabbed a juice box and a chocolate bar, and left the way she had come in.

"This better be good, Remarque," she called out as she stepped out a mirror and the heels of her boots click clack'd as she made her way into the throne room. An eyebrow raised when she saw the pink haired girl sitting in front of him. "The ******** is going on?"
