It was the allure of good coffee being brewed that caught them. Melvin couldn't begin to say how much he loved he had leave these days, and he had bought as much good coffee as he could that could still remain fresh and not stolen if he kept it in the fridge. He heard from a few other techs about a underground fridge where you paid for space and he was really considering it.

For now, he made a large pot, set his ipad down to work on a few things in the lounge. Sipping a cup of coffee, he tapped a few places. He'd already set up a itunes account, and was waiting to go on leave so he could buy a few cards and actually get some music on the damn thing. Ever since coming here, he'd been fiending for some heavy metal.

He only looked up when he heard the door open.

Coffee was a sweet blessing of whatever god you chose to praise. It gave energy when none was to be had, it made waking up more tolerable. It didn't taste bad either once you had a taste for it.

After the most recent events of strange shadow things Roland was in dire need of a good cup, and whoever was brewing in the lounge was making a rather good cup as it was. Cracking the door open he leaned in looking about before settling on Melvin with his ipad.

"Coffee?"

The smell of good coffee was an irresistible lure. It was especially so after a stint on pod duty that had involved cleaning up and checking every single cable and fitting in the room. Jordan wandered down the hall as casually as he could manage. He could, of course, go upstairs and make his own damn coffee. But there was apparently some already brewed down here.

It seemed to have attracted one other person already, and a person he knew, at that. "Hey, Ro," Jordan said, and looked past his friend into the lounge. "Hey, Melvin."

Melvin looked up at Ro, setting his own mug back down. "Better be or I paid for expensive dirt." He said, checking his own cup. "But I already taste tested. Definitely coffee." And seeing as Melvin was in a good mood, he pointed a thumb over his shoulder where the pot was. "Help yourself. It just finished perking." He turned his chair just a bit so that Ro wasn't directly behind him; something that put Melvin on edge.

He also noticed Jordan show up behind him. "If the Horsemen ever figure out with coffee is and use it to set a trap, I imagine our entire organization would be in leashes in less than a hour." It was a joke, though if you really thought about Deus' coffee addiction, it seemed almost plausible.

"What have you two been up to?" He said, thinking that Ro and Jordan had been hanging out together before showing up and not just drawn to the smell at the same time.

Roland moved into the room as Melvin acknowledged him going for a mug of his own once the offer was extended to him. "Smells like coffee most likely is. Works for me." Taking his cup he grabbed his own seat turning it to the door to join Melvin.

Tilting his chair back a bit he took a slow sip of the dark coffee the delight of bitter energy. Jordan arrived a moment later and Ro held his cup up in greeting before looking to Melvin with a grim stare.

"I think the Horsemen would find us twice as deadly, and twice as enraged if they dare touched the coffee. That would be a fools task."

He waved Jordan in a bit more, "I've been out and about I guess, not really much to say. Haven't been deployed on any missions of my own yet still."

"It's a serious threat to the organization as a whole," Jordan agreed solemnly. He padded in and poured himself a cup of coffee. "Is this your personal stock or the lounge stuff?"

"Pod duty," he said, and took over a spot on one of the couches to the side. "Cleanup after whatever those little ******** were, checking to make sure nothing was offline or badly damaged. Important stuff, but deadly boring." He took a sip of the coffee and sighed contentedly. "Coffee makes everything better."

"Personal stash. I don't feel like dealing with the cafeteria sludge unless I have too. I went a tad bit crazy with buying all the things I really wanted when I got my first leave, and coffee was one of them. Next time we ever get together again for a holiday, I don't want you to be the only one sacrificing your stash." Not that he wanted to sacrifice too much of his own either.

Turning about, he heard about the other too and what work they had been up to. "Pod duty is only good when you are alone and have a task to do. Gives you some time to think. I usually clean up there since it gets a lot of food traffic." And who wanted to wake up to a new world and fall to a dirty floor?

"I've been looking up runic reports on what artifacts everyone has on the island. A few of the lifers finally got a budget." To which he raised up the Ipad he had in his other hand as he sipped his coffee again. "Seems a lot of hunters have been to various places to get their own artifacts and now I have to track them down. Do either of you have any?"

Roland raised his mug to Jordan in agreement at the topic of threats, "A coffee shortage would lead to riots of the worst kind." He went back to his coffee before frowning a bit, "I spent my money on a few gifts, not even all of it. Heck I couldn't buy anything I wanted. Tech from out there won't work here till its modded and that's usually the cost of the device doubled for the work on it."

He drank from his mug again shivering at the talk of the shadow things, "I locked up in the labs trying to find information on them in the database, big fat nothing. Squished a few that got in but other wise I was with a few other lifes trying to piece it all together when that went down. As for artifacts. No luck, I went with Nevada and Lex to get some from an underwater prison complex. ended up getting blasted by death beams every time we go close and called it quits."

He sighed, "I hear the place has been picked dry too..."

"Good call. I try to keep enough on hand. Barring another six months being stuck, of course," Jordan grumbled amiably. "It helps being able to keep my own coffee pot." He shrugged one shoulder at Ro. "Save up, you'll get there."

He nodded to Melvin. "I try not to leave any messes when I'm on duty," he said. "Less work for whoever's on cleanup."

"I've been looking for information on a specific artifact," he said. "I've found some mentions of a kylix - an ancient Greek cup - with water from one of the underworld rivers. If it exists, I'm looking for it, but I haven't found any solid location information yet. Are you tracking who has what?"

"I was out protecting the towns. Still haven't heard any word of exactly how the attack started or what spurred it on. Just another case of a strange situation able to support massive collections of shadowlings and even very large shadows which becomes concerning when it's this close to the towns and headquarters. I'm just glad there isn't any cleanup and that they didn't destroy the dorms. It was bad enough waking up to one of those." Melvin had cleaned up his room twice over just thinking of some nasty shadow having walking all over his things. It was disgusting to think about.

To Jordan, he shook his head. "I'm researching all artifacts that hunters have collected. I haven't sent the memo out yet, but everyone who has one will be sent to me. We need to collect information their effects and magic. Seeing as they aren't a weapon but a magical item that uses fear, it's essential to document and test their properties and see if they can duplicate them. I'm hoping I can use the research to replicate something that can be used on the field. Hopefully something the moons and lifers can use on the field to help support everyone and create a higher rate of survival, but I honestly don't know what the data will show until I start testing since all previous information has just been theories and mythology. I've only bothered with my own artifact." He admitted.

"I heard the other departments had meetings as well. What did you both get up to?"

For a while Roland grew quiet letting the two other hunters talk. He hadn't done much with Artifacts beyond the trips Nevada, Lex, and himself had taken. He really did need to get back on that, but life had just sort of rolled on, jobs where given, orders to fill in for other Hunters. He just didn't have time to chase his own project yet beyond fixing his desk.

"Eventually," he shrugged, "First goal is get my ipod turned over, I hate not having music. As for messes I can't say I've left any other then in a few blast chambers. You know the ones they have set up for uhhh more explosive weapons? Like Jerry's? They make great sound proof rooms for working on Sylvia, and the mess usually isn't complained about since I make far less then what a canon might." He went back to his coffee again realizing already his silence and constant sipping had lead to a rather low cup. To make up for it he looked at Jordan again.

"Let me know when you go looking for it if you find a location, I wouldn't mind helping on another artifact hunt. As for the meeting," he shrugged, "Nothing really, people where given a chance to propose projects, a few people are looking into starting a sort of mental-health, psychology thing. I was told to finish repairing a desk I busted, which I did, but I'm still playing around with a few...additions."

"I was helping protect the main building, after we woke up to find a few of those things in the room. I'm just glad they didn't damage anything important. I'm actually surprised that no major damage was done, with as many of them as there seemed to be." Jordan shook his head. "It makes me a little paranoid that nobody knows where they came from or what they are."

He nodded to Ro. "I'll be sure to let you know. I can probably use the help - it seems like these things are pretty well protected. Good to have backup." He looked back to Melvin. "You probably already know, but Harrison and Rep both have artifacts; Harrison has a pair of binoculars that keep him from needing to sleep for a week, and Rep's got an earring that can release a wave of water. Which, might I add, he takes off at home, because hell if we want to clean that up if it gets set off by accident," he noted dryly.

"My personal project involves teaching Sun hunters some degree of tactical thinking," he said. "Allan was a little confused by the need for tactics other than hit it until it stops moving, but that just demonstrates why it's needed, in my opinion. Jerry and I are also working on clearing out the old school in town so the rooms can be used and we can convert something into a lounge for Sun division." He gave Ro a thoughtful look. "Who's starting up a mental health program? Once I've got a space to work from, I'm setting up as an informal counselor. Sometimes people just need someone to talk to. It'd be better if I can coordinate with whoever else has the same idea."

He shot a sly look at Melvin. "I hear Life division has a space program planned."

"Artifact runs are miserable work. I went with Jerry to get his and we had to try over and over for a week or so before we even got close. Well, he got close. I didn't even get one of my own until I tried a few times with Leon. If you need any assistance, I'll be happy to help you. Just be aware you'll have to come to the labs once you have it runiced - which I agree is a pain in the a**. I've tried to get a friend in the runic department since a while ago, but I hear that even getting into the department is rather hard considering a lot of people want to work there in order to make a bit of extra cash and have a bit of power. They don't mess around, even when it comes to other Lifers." Greedy bastards, the whole lot of them.

Looking to Jordan, he smiled. "I can imagine how chaotic fighting in a room with the three of you can get. I'm surprised you and Rep didn't wind up tearing down one of your walls in the process. Can your weapons even fit in that room?" He had a very comical image of the three of them trying to swing their weapons and only managing to move it a inch before the angles of either the hilts or the ends of their weapons knocked a wall or a piece of furniture.

As for space, he shook his head. "I won't mention names, but someone thought a space program would be a wise idea. What they didn't get that, despite all the magic, we don't have a space station or a rocket launchpad anywhere. The heads were at least kind enough not to burst out laughing and gave the guy some funding to d**k around with, but not enough to do much of anything. Maybe buy some water rockets to shoot up into the sky or some weather balloon, but nothing that would reach the stratosphere."

Brushing that ridiculous matter aside, he had some deep interest in what Jordan was planning. "I agree that this place needs a counselor. I heard there used to be a guy who did that, but he isn't here anymore. Shame too since a few people are a bit off their rocker and need to seriously be brought back to reality. I talk to enough people to worry they might snap or think they are too macho to even talk to anyone." Melvin made sure to look at Jordan and hoped he got exactly who he was talking about. "I see enough people staring out into the middle distance or crying in the cafeteria to be concerned if they will be handling a dangerous weapon on the same field with me. If you need help with that or even cleaning, I'll be up for it. That is, if I could also snag a piece of some place in town for the Life division." A Sun lounge was fine, but if he was going to clean up, he wanted to grab a corner for his department or even just himself.

"Oh trust me I know its miserable work Melvin. Death lasers. In the shoulder, chest, face, they didn't quiet kill you but it was close enough to have to pendant out before your shield stopped tanking it."

He raised his mug to Jordan smiling a bit, "More then happy to help Jordan. Just return the favor or help me out if I go looking for one again myself. I could use you and ferros as like... a wall of smashing defense if things go south." He listened though as Jordan described the artifacts his boyfriends had, Rep's sounded rather interesting. "So that's what that big blue gem is for. It's actually rather good looking on him, didn't know it was also an artifact."

"As for counseling, Candace and a few other girls mentioned it. It might end up being a communal project if you two end up pitching in on it. Also let me know when you start that tactics class, can't hurt to know what the Sun's are doing if it means being able to mesh with it better as a Mist."

He finished his mug and frowned, he wanted more coffee...

"Yeah. Artifact hunting isn't my top priority right now, but I will get back to it when I have a little time. Right now it's mostly research, though. Confirming the thing I'm after is more than a fairy tale." Jordan shrugged. "It might yet turn out to be a false lead, though I hope not." He nodded to Ro. "Let me know when you head out hunting. We're happy to help."

He rolled his eyes amiably at Melvin. "Yeah, Ferros and Tracey aren't exactly indoors weapons. Rep was already out when Harrison and I woke up, though. He said he had a bad dream and needed some fresh air. So it was just Ferros and me being awkward in an enclosed space. I may have put a couple of dents in the floor," he admitted sheepishly.

"Yeah. Killzone died defending the island when the Horsemen tried invading." Jordan looked off into the distance. "I wish I could've been there to help - I mean, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have made much difference, but I'll never know." He sighed and shook his head. "He left some pretty big shoes to fill."

Melvin got an angled brow at what he was implying - yeah, Jordan had caught that just fine, and yeah, he was on it. "I'm pretty sure you can claim some space if you're willing to pitch in with the cleanup project. We're going to get the word out as soon as the damage assessment from the shadowling hordes has been taken care of."

"I'll let you know when I get that started, then," he told Ro. "I sure don't mind inter-division cooperation. We could stand more of it, most of the time."
