This was not good. It was unexpected and full of potential complications. Lavinia stared at the baskets before her. There were four of them. At first it seemed as if only three had been present but the dark of night must have hid the fourth basket. Lavinia grimaced before searching the skyline. Dawn was approaching fast and if she was planning to alert the father of these baskets ... she needed to move fast. She didn't wish to leave these helpless being alone for too long.
Lavinia nudged at the fourth basket again. Confusion was the dominant expression as she stared at it. Had she missed it the night before? Uncertain as to whether she should leave at all the kelpi mare shook her head. Perhaps a quick dip in the ocean would clear her thoughts. Lavinia took a hesitant step towards the cave entrance before pausing. She needed time to herself but she didn't want to leave these baskets.

The small swim had done her some good. Lavinia shook water droplets off her back as she made her way back to the cave. As her sight adjusted to the dim light Lavinia was relieved to see all of the baskets still remained seated near the rear of the cavern. This place had been a good hiding spot that she had found. Lavinia settled herself to lie down. Her thoughts whirled around the foals’ future. Would she take them back to the Mazoku or would she instead leave them with their father? It was a strange predicament that she found herself in.
Essentially she was the one who decided what these foals would do when they arrived. Was she ready for the pressure to make such a decision? Lavinia let her head fall to the ground. She would rethink things after resting for a while. The idea of finding the father and bringing him back flashed through her mind as her eyes closed. He would want to know about this change in their lives.

Lavinia had made her decision. She would find the father of these baskets and bring them to the cave. He had a responsibility to the foals nestled inside just as she did. The question was how could she leave the baskets alone while she trekked only a short distance away? Lavinia cast her gaze around the cave. She needed to keep her unborn children safe. There wasn't much more room to the back of the cave but perhaps she could drag some kelp from the ocean to drape over the baskets. She wouldn't be gone too long. There wouldn't be time for curious eyes to pierce the frail deception she was planning. At least she hoped there wasn't.

The mare cast a critical eye over her work. Lavinia had spent most of the morning hours collecting kelp from the water's edge. She had brought mouthful and mouthful of the salty plants into the cave. There she had formed a pile of the plants in order to work with. Two of the baskets were dark enough to escape a massive draping of the sinuous plants but the other two baskets needed to be covered up with more kelp.
Finally Lavinia stood at the mouth of the cave and peered into the cave. Her keen gaze picked out the lumps of kelp but it was because she knew what was there. If she had to look into the cave with a stranger's eyes would she know what she was looking at?
Shaking her head softly the mare turned her body to head in the direction that she needed to go. She didn't want to leave her baskets but she needed their father. She meant to bring him back. Nothing else would do in her mind.

Lavinia inhaled deeply and let out the air slowly. She had done what was seemingly the impossible. After what she deemed was a giant mistake Lavinia had started out on her search. A few hours into her search Lavinia began to wonder if she should just turned around and go back. However she had pushed herself on. Now she rounded the corner leading back to the cave that held her precious cargo. The main difference is that she was not alone.
Lavinia peered over her shoulder to see the strange stallion that she'd found so many moons back and had sheltered with for a while before taking her sudden leave. She had found him. Now hopefully her search was not in vain. Lavinia craned her neck to face forward as she walked into the cave. Her heart was racing. Were the baskets still there? She couldn't make out her handiwork and she began to panic. A moment later Lavinia felt a wave of relief rushed over her. Her baskets were fine. Lavinia turned her gaze to the cave mouth. "Wasu, come and see."

He grinned, he was always grinning like his mother as one of his front hooves sank into the mud. The hat fell forward across his brows as he continued on, unaware of the bubbling noise the mud made under his hooves. Wasu was far more interested in finding the small crab like creatures that ran across the marsh than anything else going around him. Just the thought of his stomach rumbling again was agitating to deal with, it was always so loud so loud he didn’t want to hear it.
“So sis, what shall Wasu eat today? Little crabby crabs yes? Or maybe Wasu should make it easy, frogs are easy, but Wasu ate frogs yesterday…. And Wasu doesn’t want slimy…” He replied pausing as he turned looking over his shoulder. There was no one there, there never really was anyone there.
He grinned again as he continued his hunting.

When no one came into the cave in response to her call Lavinia strolled back into the open air. She had brought Wasu back but now it seemed as if the stallion had wandered off. Lavinia sighed. The stallion had been a little nonsensical on the way here perhaps something had happened. The mare sighed before gazing back at the cave. She had left her children alone for a while and knowing that Wasu was somewhere in the general area made it easier to leave the baskets this time.
She growled under her breath as she caught sight of Wasu. He had his eyes to the ground like he was tracking something. Lavinia stormed up to the stallion and lunged at him in an attempt to grab the hat. "Forget eating at the moment. I have something more important to show you. Come with me Wasu."

"Forget eating at the moment. I have something more important to show you. Come with me Wasu."
He had forgotten about Lavinia, his mind was easily sidetracked by the running of the little creatures that it wasn’t until the mare lunged for his hat that he remembered. Grinning he nodded to her, something was different. However his mind could not place what it could be…. Was it time?
That was it wasn’t it! It was time he thought grinning like a shark as his hat flapped on his head as he trotted happily behind her like a colt promised sweets. What would they be? Would they be like him? With little pointed grins and spots all over their bodies. Maybe they would be more like their mother? Grey with beautiful silky fins that allowed the ability to swim. Two of them he was sure there would be two just like him and his sister.
