Ah, you want to know about elements? You've come to the right place. So what is an element? Elements are the very essence of life. They are a sort of matter, special particles of energy that exist in everything. Elements reside in you and me - even in a single blade of grass.

Each element has three possible abilities to learn, the first listed is what all can do if they possess that element. The following two abilities listed are the different branches the element takes, though it is simply impossible to be capable of both branching abilities. We are predisposed to which path we take before we even know how to use our element.

The twelve types of elemental energy shall be listed below for your reference. I shall mark the first listed ability as 'basic', then the branching abilities will either be listed as 'positive' or 'negative'. You will learn what that means later. Know that it is not expected of you to retain all that is listed below. This is quite all right, as many in our world have limited knowledge of the elements. The more you do know however, the more proficient you will become in the usage of your element. Make yourself at least familiar with the twelve elements that follow and their basic abilities.




The Elements

Light

Light elementals are highly sought after in the military. Many become doctors after getting licensed and trained by the military, a far cheaper option for the poor. Most light elementals attempt to become masters of the healing art, though some in the military choose the more offensive path of illusionary power.

Healing:

The healing of light and shallow wounds. This does not cure illnesses, just causes the skin to grow back to stop bleeding.

Illusions:

Distorting light to create false images - experts in this field can single out individuals to see illusions (they give off residual heat anytime an illusion happens, can't change things like smell)

Full Healing:

Full body healing - experts in this field can heal diseases and ailments of the mind






Wind

Wind elementals are most agile and deft, making them skilled warriors for the military. They are masters of projectile weapons and repelling them.

Agility:

Use the wind to become faster and jump further. Have a basic ability to use light breezes, such as adjusting the winds for arrows or boat sails.

Wind Strike:

Powerful but uncontrolled winds that send foes flying back. People who take this path can create cyclones and cause circling winds about them to repel projectiles. This path is for the warrior type.

Precision:

Focusing wind in exact locations to lift objects into the air. Many precision users combine their abilities with technology using air compression to make machines run.






Water

Water elementals are resourceful for survival needs, though they are not often brought into the military unless they have truly mastered their element.

Water Manipulation:

Control the flow of water

Ice Manipulation:

Change the shape of ice to your will, create ice as long as there is moisture or water

Puppetry:

Manipulate the water content in a foe's body. They can only control one at a time. Most who take this path can only paralyze a foe, but they themselves are at a standstill. Though some proficient masters can entirely control their opponent.






Earth

Earth elementals are strong and have a great advantage, almost always having their element nearby to work with. They have great advantages to what they can achieve, even capable of quickly building shelters in the wilderness should one get lost. They are common additions to the military for the diversity of their abilities.

Earth Manipulation:

Using the earth around you, grabbing big chunks of dirt and rocks.

Grain Manipulation and Compression:

Having control over each grain of dirt, being able to form it into complex shapes by compressing and compacting the dirt until it is firm like rocks. Masters of this field have been capable of forming rock golems to fight for them. (Though there has been a great danger of people trying to turn themselves in a golem, losing control of their element and the sheer weight of the earth crushing them)

Fissure:

Causing the ground to split open from the sheer violence of shaking the earth.






Nature

Nature elementals are either resourceful or dangerous. When one takes the path of creation, they have the ability to create an abundance of food - a necessary survival skill. Many avoid the path of poisons, though those who do take such a deadly path are sought after in the military.

Nature Manipulation:

Altering the plants around you that already exist. For example you could force a plant to produce fruit even if it is not in season.

Nature Growth:

Growing plants from no seed. Masters of this field should make themselves familiar with botany, they will need to know the conditions of the plants they wish to create, and recreate those conditions. Even an expert will have a difficult time growing plants in a barren desert. This is a highly sought after path, for they can provide in a time of survival.

Poison:

In order for these types to unleash poisons, they must have plants nearby. They harness the poison from surrounding plants - which can be saved for later. If the plants around them are not poisonous, they alter the plant to suit their needs. They poison by physical contact, or releasing gasses and mists.






Fire

Fire elementals are some of the most fierce warriors much of the time. Because many of their abilities are used for offensive means, they are one of the most common elements to find within the military.

Fire manipulation:

They must have a means of igniting a flame before they can control the flames itself. Because fire is such a dangerous element to practice with, children practice the different levels of heat before they are permitted to play with fire. They must have control before they are allowed to fully explore their element.

Explosive:

A sudden combustion of heat in a concentrated area. Masters of this path do not require a means of ignition. The average user of this path must create a flame first, focus on their intended target, then release the flame and it will explode upon impact.

Smoke:

Manipulate the direction of smoke and how thick it becomes. They can smoke out and suffocate people in trapped rooms, making them deadly. They also make a great pair with fire elements who take the other path, a good backup in containing a fire if a novice makes a dangerous mistake. While this branch is more passive, they can also save lives.






Sound

Sound elementals must understand the vibrations and frequency waves of sound itself. They make excellent spies, able to hear and control sound to their means.

Sound Wave:

The weak stages of this cause knockback as well as a sound, but more advanced stages will actually cause harm by manipulating the vibrations of particles upon impact, and experts can cause temporary ringing ears. They can mess with the way sound travels on a basic level, such as making a persons speech silent, or making their own voice incredibly loud.

Vibration:

This builds directly upon the sound wave ability, but now the attack spreads out in all directions in a circular shape. Masters can create sound barriers which protect them from many elemental attacks. Anything faster than sound - such as bullets, can penetrate this barrier. When the barrier is released in a forced way, it has a field burst effect, damaging anything in its path.

Screeching and Ventriloquism:

Screeching is when a sound elemental raises the pitch and volume until their foes drop to their knees in ear splitting pain. Masters can cause their foes to become incapacitated. They also have the ability of ventriloquism, altering where sounds come from to fake out their enemies. They can make their own movements silent which makes them deadly warriors in battle. Masters of this path can lull people into a trance-like state through song, whether it be vocal or instrumental, however, they only remain in this state as long as the melody continues.






Metal

Metal elementals are one of the most sought after in the military. Trained metal elementals have been known to crush soldiers within their own armor. As you can see, such a skill would be beneficial for the military, as metal elements can morph and manipulate the shape of weapons, destroying many foes weapons and armor - or enhancing their own.

Metal Manipulation:

Change the shapes of refined metal. Beginners practice with the more malleable metals, working their way up to the most strong and dense of the refined metal.

Creation:

Creating refined metal from surrounding rocks and ores. Masters of this field are powerful enough with their manipulation to crush foes within their armor.

Ultimate Shield:

Form metal over the skin to create a protective shield. Masters of this field learn how to move at normal speeds with the density they take on. There is an extreme danger with this route, for these people have to constantly calculate the movement of their body with the shell they have created.






Lightning

Lightning elementals are frightening foes if they have a great focus on their abilities. The difficulties many of them face is control of their element. Controlling lightning elements is rather unstable, but when used properly it can be a deadly force.

Paralysis Shock:

Beginners can give an annoying zap, and many are pranksters because of this. If they develop and focus their abilities better, they can cause their foes to become paralyzed for a few seconds. Masters can paralyze enemies for even a few minutes.

Magnetic Force:

A powerful field of energy that either attracts or repels with a force. This of course only applies to metal. Lightning elementals who choose this path are welcomed by the military. Masters of this path can expand the radius of their field burst a few extra feet.

Thunder Strike:

This builds on paralysis shock, their intensity of electrical shock now able to incapacitate their foes. Once their power reaches this point, they are ready to harness the energy of thunder. They draw the energy into their body, aim a focus point, then release. Thunder is an extremely dangerous and reckless path to go, and there are many stories of friends getting hit. Most lightning elementals avoid this path, but if you can master control, you would make a most deadly foe.






Dark

Dark elementals have earned somewhat of a bad name for themselves. Their abilities allow them to pull off some dangerous things, yet the military finds them to be a great asset. They make great assassins, thieves or spies. Something notable to mention is that dark elementals have a weakness to silver metals, and silver prevents them from the ability to phase. Most warriors with this element are rather cocky with their phasing abilities and must take care not to be touched by a silver blade.

Phasing:

This ability gives dark elements the power to pass through solid objects as if they were a ghost. It is important to note that they remain visible during this process. The only way to prevent phasing is silver. Beginners practice with their fingers, working their way down their bodies. There have been horror stories of these types getting stuck in the floor or forgetting to phase body parts as they attempt to move through an object. Masters of this ability can phase one extra person.

Necromancy:

These types claim the souls of those they defeat, and they can claim as many souls as they like. Masters can summon up to five souls. The more souls that are summoned at one time, the more vulnerable the user becomes. This works by pouring energy into the soul, which forms a skeleton that fights for their master. If the necromancer has claimed a powerful soul, that soul takes more energy to summon, but make a more powerful servant.

Mind Manipulation:

These users form a mental link with another. Once the link is established they can read thoughts and communicate mentally, sending and sharing thoughts. It is important to note that the Outcast possess mental capabilities beyond any other race. If an Outcast chooses this path, they can access memories on a visual level and induce nightmares.






Moon

Moon elementals are a rarity in our world. They have a special role in the elements, serving as a support system. Half of the elements listed above are aligned under the moon, the other aligned under the sun element. The moon element grants support to any element that falls under its alignment, though it isn't just support - they also have their own set of abilities.

Celestial Light:

Gives power or energy to any element under the moon alignment

Beastial Control:

Gives the user dominion over animals

Gravity:

Manipulate gravity






Sun

The sun element is rare to find. Like the moon elementals, they serve as a support to many other elements. Sun elementals enhance the power and energy levels for other elementals, sustaining their friends longer in a battle scenario. Aside from supporting roles, sun elementals have special abilities of their own.

Radiance:

Gives support to any element under the sun alignment

Ray Burst:

A powerful light that stings and causes temporary blindness. A master of this causes a ray burst from an explosion.

Solar Flare:

A large burst of radiation unleashed upon surroundings foes. The danger of this ability is that friends would be harmed as well.









The Alignments

Unfortunately, elements are a bit more complicated. You now know the basics that little children are taught in schools. You see, elements are strengthened or weakened by other elements and are categorized by their alignment. What? You don't know what that means?

The Moon and Sun elements are special. These two elements effect all other elements. For example, a fire element will always be stronger during the day while the sun is up. A water elemental will be more powerful during the night while the moon is out.

Elements and Races

Races appear to only be able to use certain elements. Genetics and location seems to make a great impact on why races are limited to the elements they have.

While that seems all set in stone, there are cases when personality supersedes genetics - this is extremely rare and tends to cause a parent to accuse their spouse of cheating.








Personality of Elements

Were you even aware that every element has a personality to it? Scientists have discovered that there is a correlation between personality and the element of a person. Say for example you find a Kitari who is born with the dark element. Kitari are not prone to possessing this element, but if their personality is predisposed to that of a typical dark elemental, then there is a slim chance they can be born with it.

Does this mean that a person's personality is determined at birth? Does it mean a person is a slave to the personality of their element, never to grow and change as a person?

No of course not. Well - yes to some degree to that first question. While parenting practices, experiences and growing environment make the greatest impact on a child, there is no denying that a child has a prepossessed personality in their infancy.

What happens if you have a person whose personality does not match up with the personality of their element? Lets think of the fire element as our next example. When we think of fire, it is explosive, angry and at times passionate. If a fire elemental is too soft or too passive, then they will have a weak flame.

I have spoken a lot about how personality effects the determined element, but as I have mentioned a few times, elements have a personality of their own. To use an element to its full capacity, the user must give in to the personality of their element. This is rather difficult for someone whose element has a personality that greatly conflicts their natural temperament.









Elemental Realms

How is it possible for elements to exist in our world? What if I told you mankind did not always possess the ability to use elements? While we were born with our own element, prior to the Great War, it was only the Xenema who could use the elements.

After the Xenema surrendered, they showed mankind how to create the elemental realms. An elemental realm is a place where energy flows in and out from. Think of it like ocean waves, the pull and pushing motion. In every elemental realm is what we call an elemental core.

Elemental core's are what grant mankind the ability to use the elements within us. The core's are extreme concentrated forms of elemental energy, the Xenema the only ones capable of creating them.

There are twelve elemental realms, one for each element. These realms cannot be accessed by walking into it - only a guardian can open the way to the realms. Guardians watch the realms, keeping the core's safe from destruction. To destroy a single core would destroy the balance of all elements and remove the ability to use the element of the destroyed core. Chaos would ensue.
