The soft tap tap of boot heels against a wood floor was the only sound in Hekate and Z'fer's shared Weyr as the woman paced relentlessly across the floor her eyes dark with thought. Perched on what space was available sat her flits their little whirling eyes following her as she walked. Hekate had a plan. . .no not so much a plan as a dream. A brilliant, big, crazy dream, one she couldn't rest on until she made it happen. One that just had to happen.
I don't see why you're nervous Mine. I chose you for your ambition. I chose you because you are the best and the bronze two-legger of yours will see that this idea is as brilliant as you are. Devith crooned in Hekate's mind causing the woman to pause glancing out the window catching a glimpse of her dragon's silver hide where he lounged near by.
True. I've never been content to wait for fortune to fall into my lap when I can effect the outcome now. She replied pausing as a glint of bronze showed in the distance.
Calanoth and his return from their drills. Tell him Mine. Tell him your idea. Devith rumbled lifting his head to bugle a greeting to his favorite bronze friend.

Calanoth's brassy tones rang out a greeting to the silver. As odd as it might be for a bronze to have a silver weyrmate, Calanoth thought nothing of sharing his living space with the younger dragon. Devith had always been around. Why shouldn't he be? Calanoth circled once before dipping his wings and landing not far away from where Devith reclined.
Z'fer pulled his flightcap off, his braid tumbling out of the leather hat and striking his back with a thump. Within moments he was out of his straps and on the ground, maneuvering around the large bronze to help the creature out of his own harness. You going to the lake?
Maybe. Drills were over too fast. Calanoth shook himself vigorously. He still had energy to spare today. What do you think Devith? Care to woo the ladies down by the lake with me?
For you maybe. Z'fer snorted, folding the loose leather over his arm. He was tired, and feeling a bit better. The new recruits had had problems when transferring firestone last fall, so he'd spent the better part of the day practicing pick ups with them and the rest of the wing. As irritating as it was, he didn't blame Mercy in the least for these weyrlings not being as prepared as they might have been. No she'd done her job just fine. He had the utmost faith in the Assistant Weyrlingmaster from Malvren and her white dragon. It was Trine's masters who were slacking in his opinion. Not that it had been easy to teach considering the circumstances this past turn. It was still their fault and now he had to make up for it.
Z'fer snorted at Calanoth but gave his cheekbone a scratch and turned towards his weyr. Not what I had in mind but I don't blame you. A few of the younger greens had been looking... 'ripe' so to say and Calanoth could only be himself.
Z'fer entered without knocking, tossing his cap and jacket onto a chair before hanging his straps on their proper hook. "Remind me to schedule and extra day or two with G'aro, Janope, and K'lin. Their still reacting too slow, and G'aro dropped two bags of stone today. Seeoth is improving at least. I think she finally got it into her head that it's a wing, not her personal stage. I swear that dragon should have been born a silver." With that his grey eyes sought out the familiar gold of Hekate's, a teasing smile crossing his sooty face.

I certainly wouldn't mind adding to my already growing following. After all I can't help it if the ladies like to admire us and I am due for a swim. Devith replied with a rumbling draconic chuckle as he stretched himself out like a large shining cat before getting to his feet intent to pad down to the lake with his companion and leave his rider to her work.
After all he had the utmost confidence in her and Z'fer always seemed to be in a better mood without his silver rival watching him like a flitter watches a tunnelsnake. Shaking her head Hekate couldn't help, but grin watching the two dragons wander off on their merry way before turning back to Z'fer as he stepped through the door. "Duly noted and you can't really blame her now can you? Not every dragon can have Devith's flare and firepower to boot." She joked teasingly stepping up to wrap her arms around her weyrmate's neck giving him his much over due welcome back kiss. Savoring the moment for a short while Hekate finally pulled back and paused
"Z'fer you know they're looking for District Heads to help run the rebuilding and expansion of the Weyr. You also know I have a good head for tactics when I put my mind too it and building. Well. . .I plan to apply to become one." She explained deciding it was probably wiser to just come right out this time and explain to him what she was plotting.
"And~" Hekate added knowing her mates tendencies. "I need your helping in planning how to defend whatever district I might get." She continued batting her eyelashes up at him giving Z'fer her biggest gold eyed doe-like look hoping to draw him into approving of the possible move by his ego.

"No but she'd give his ego a run for his marks that's for sure." He leaned down into the kiss, humming against Hekate's mouth, and held her to him until she pulled away. His expression was one of tired satisfaction. The Z'fer of two turns ago would have dropped himself between before ever considering taking a weyrmate. The Z'fer of now had to admit it was nice to have this to return to after a day of drills.
Z'fer grimaced as she brought up the Districts idea that had been proposed to 'test' the gold riders. They were both too young to lead in his opinion and as much as he did Not want Abigail as Trine's Weywoman anymore, why couldn't they just do it the old way? Or put their own Jr. Weyrwoman in the position. She was due to rise anyways. Just because the Wherhandlers had revolted supposedly over color equality didn't mean that they had to change everything. He wasn't against color equality, but he felt things were the way they were for a reason.
"Don't tell me you're seriously considering that? I thought you wanted to become a Warden?" He frankly didn't want much to do with it. They spoke of District heads and leadership. It sounded like a porcine in a dress to him. Fancy titles couldn't disguise the load of whershit they were trying to pawn off on unsuspecting riders.
"Do you really think they'll let you plan tactics? I'm not saying you can't do it. I'm just saying this is all so Abigail can get her kicks in before they lock her away with the mindhealers for the rest of her life. He heaved a heavy sigh as he crossed the room again, tossing his jacket to the bed and dropping into the chair it had rested on. Of course she wanted his help as well.
"I've got training and drills to organize, and with the new additions I need to shuffle their positions. I still haven't figured out a better way to organize which of the greens and blues transfer out in fall." He griped. "I've got a perfect mess of greens who barely last a third, some who do better at the beginning and others who do better at the end, but they then have stamina's that don't fit with the others and I don't want to spend an entire shaffing Fall just directing them all back and forth!"
He turned and gave Hekate a sideways glance. "I could use a competent Wingsecond." He would not cave to those batting lashes.
He wouldn't.

"There's no reason I can't be a District Head and a Warden. There's also no reason I couldn't be a District Head and a Wingsecond either." She countered watching as the flits scattered as his jacket landed with a thud in the chair only for her three greens to curl up on top of it retaking their place like lazy felines.
"No I'm not naive enough to think they'll actually give me any real power. All the districts are just masses of land, ruins, and jungles, but I have to start somewhere. It's a claw in the weyr and I think I can turn their plan to our favor. Wouldn't you like a nice big weyr? One by the lakes with beaches for Cal and Devith to lounge on? A home that's safe?" Hekate began though as she spoke her voice grew softer a look of worry and fear crossing her features.
"You don't have to help me, but someone needs to make some part of this Weyr safe and it might as well be me. You don't know how they think Z'fer. Those rebels won't rest until we're destroyed and I'll bet you anything the handlers aren't recruiting because they want equality. No what they want is an army." She murmured her eyes downcast as she shook her head. Gently she reached out taking his hand in hers and giving it a small squeeze as she traced his knuckles with her fingers.
"I know their type Z'fer and as much as I wish this was the end of this madness I know they won't stop. I know they'll be back and when they come I plan to be ready~" Hekate spoke her eyes flickering with a fiery conviction at her last words Z'fer had never seen.

"I won't feel safe until I've got solid stone walls all around me." Ignoring the fact that stone walls didn't save Malvren from the wherhandlers. Z'fer still felt far too exposed to the elements and Thread in the shacks and open style of Trine. He sighed and listened to her, not resisting as she took his hand.
Her bubble was firmly in place. That was certain. He wasn't sure why he was so against her running a district really. Something about it just rubbed him wrong. Maybe he wanted her all for himself? With their schedules as riders in separate wings, it was hard enough to get the time he wanted with her. Now, she'd be taking on more responsibilities. She'd be responsible for other people in addition to just the 'jungles and ruins'. She was only 19! Barely old enough to be with him, let alone in a position of authority. Not that anyone other than Abigail and himself were of any respectable age in this thrice-betweened place.
He didn't like it, but the past turn had taught him that Hekate was about as strong headed as a draybeast. If she wanted something she'd take it, and it was apparent she wanted this. "I don't like it." He met her look with a hard one of his own. "But I can't stop you. I won't stop you and I won't get in your way." He glanced at their hands again and twisted his mouth. "If you need my help... I'll give what I can. I'll be here for you." At least until he'd had enough.
He'd sit back and watch things for now. If she managed to amass an army as she seemed to have planned, he might be able to work with that.

At his words Hekate seemed to perk up her eyes brightening as she all, but beamed up at Z'fer. "You won't regret it Z'fer. I'll get you your stone walls even if I have to build them myself! You'll see! It'll work out. Maybe it's not much, but it's a start." She explained leaping up from her seat and all, but tackling him as she covered the scarred wingleader with butterfly kisses.
It was rare when Hekate was so 'exuberant,' but it was clear that his approval though meager had meant a lot to her as she hugged him tight all, but curling into the larger man and practically thrumming like a content feline in his embrace. Really the whole affair was a bit disconcerting, despite her teasing it was rare for Hekate to show any true affection to anyone, but Devith. However Z'fer wasn't just anyone. He was her Everything and while he might not admit it Hekate suspected that maybe just maybe she was his everything too.

Oh Faranth, she was so young. She acted so mature at times but as Z'fer was smothered in feather light kisses he regretted his decision. She was still just a child, too innocent and optimistic for her own good.
Z'fer wrapped his arms around her and pulled her tight to his chest. He would help her, even if he ended up doing the majority of work himself. He'd make it work for her.
