I think the new Pope in the Catholic Church is pretty awesome. He got out of the Vatican just to meet the people in the street, and as a Cardinal he would ride the bus and help the poor. I would like to know what everyone else thinks of this so far, especially non-Catholics.

I think his stance on gay marriage is pretty terrible. It's one thing to have an opinion as a churchman and another to campaign politically on that opinion. He is conservative and that is concerning.
I did like the way he phoned up to cancel his newspaper subscription himself. His humble nature is great for the church's public image. From what little we've seen of him so far he seems to be a decent choice.

i think he's better than the last pope. He stands for the poor, the environment, world peace (encouraging leaders to meet over the Korea issues than fight), and other social issues of our time. However, I'm not fond of his stance against gay marriage, which seems to be the norm stance among Catholics and (most) other Christians. I hope that in time he will come to see that gay people deserve to marry too, like Obama has.

Shad Woest I like that he doesn't look like Darth Sidious. well yes, that does help! and he wants the Vatican to give to the poor instead of taking thousand dollar bonuses, and that seems like a good hearted gesture. especially after the Vatican has come under criticism for being too financially self interested.

just recently some young man in Paris was despondent and depressed because he felt his homosexuality made him hateful to God and THe Church.
so Pope Francis phoned him! and said something like "your homosexuality is okay."
to me that seems amazing, and wonderfully pastoral.

As a noncatholic, I can say the one thing I really like about him so far is his push for Liberation Theology. It's what any church should be about, yet almost none are that I am familiar with.

He's actually quite liberal as a pope, considering what he does every day. I love and appreciate him a lot

A pope that seems to accepts new ideas, and seems open to new suggestions.
Refreshing to say the least. Plus he looks less like I might be electrocuted if I say hello incorrectly.

so far so good
about economics and gays and so on
but i am waiting for justice for women religious!
making a saint out of John Paul II is an atrocity! in the name of Mary, he crucified the women religious!
meanwhile congregations are dying because there are not enough (male) priests.
