Ecemalka is a minx. Cunning and sly and too smart for her own good, Ecemalka delights in helping her thieving Chosen in any way possible. She has a particularly good grasp on human emotions, and can detect any fear or joy or anxiety radiating from the humans around her. Any emotions that provide opportunities for Auriel are ones that Ecemalka will point out for her chosen, as well as anything out of the ordinary that Auriel might not have noticed with her human senses.

She is as two-faced as she is cunning, and has no trouble cuddling up to someone and pretending to be his friend while sniffing out that person's insecurities and weaknesses at the same time and projecting them to her Chosen. He is not sure what to do with the hedge-witch's cold words save to carry them, and does not agree with his Guardian's advice regarding them. "Ain't no cause for me to be telling any of them," he argues as she picks her way along the trail. Though it seems as if she is nodding as she walks, he can feel the heat of her disapproval in the back of his mind. She has never agreed that as the strongest he ought to keep his troubles from the rest of the family; so far as she is concerned they do entirely too much relying on him instead of the other way around. "They'd only worry," he mutters, shifting uneasily in his saddle, wondering how long it will be before one of his brothers finds out anyway.

Her sleek black fur and the skull of her dire enemy disguising her face do make her such a frightful, strange doe that can possibly break bones upon the first footfall. It is the truth, though, when provoked for darkness does strike the swiftest and the most terrible way but all to protect her dear chosen. He is afraid of her, the strangeness and what she represents to him, but she loves him dearly for when the light left his in life, she is there to be his comfort for she never judges.
