The morning was soft and warm, the sunlight filtering in through the thick foliage patchy with green. Insects hummed softly and a small brook wound its babbling way through the trees. It was a pleasant, peaceful sort of start to the day, even if the birdsong was a bit quieter than usual but there always was some small sign of warning when a predator was about. The mare yawned, stretching languidly as the feline whose pelt she wore stretched over her own. Yesterday had been delightful, she could still taste the blood, still hear the startled scream and the gallop of hooves as her dear, sweet, helpless 'friend' tried to flee. Yesterday had been perfect, the past month's planning had gone without a hitch. The mare's family probably still thought she'd abandoned them, each phase of her performance had just gone so well.

It was over now though. And Caoraigh, though patient, disliked having nothing to do. She needed a new plot, in a place far away from the young mare she'd played with up until yesterday in the sunny afternoon. Usually she waited for the most appropriate weather for the scene about to play out, but there had been something wonderfully awful about the cheerful blue, cloudless sky and the fragrant flowers spilling to the edge of the small, crystal-clear pool being the backdrop for her inevitable betrayal. The pool was a bit spoiled now, dead things tended to do that to small bodies of water, but the idea of someone finding the remains in such a place was just too delicious to pass up even if she wouldn't be around to see it. Always better to move on before anyone could recognize her, tie her into the terrible, awful, wicked deeds, and spoil her stories. There were plenty of other places to go, other soquili to meet, other games to play. She'd raced most of the night to get this far away, the tracks she'd left those of a disturbingly large feline until she found the rocky ground at this pretty forest's edge to hide where she made the change back. Now she was no one significant once again, just a stranger looking to make a friend, or fall in love, or in need of rescuing, ah, so very many, many possibilities! The options were truly endless!

Mulling over which plots she might brush off and make use of, Caoraigh moved through the trees to quench her thirst in the small brook she could hear. Really, which plot depended on who she managed to stalk down and select as her prey. But it was amusing to consider which ones she might get to play with. A noble hero? A shy little thing? Oh the games to be had...

Santaro was no one's fool, but his own recent exploits had proven exhausting and his ears were still ringing from the high pitched squawking of the mare. While evenings of passion usually passed by quickly, this one crept by slowly as she unraveled in a massive heap of sob stories and a burst of emotion. The early morning hadn't come fast enough that day and he slid out without much dramatics when the mare began to hint at a long term commitment. A lifetime of one mare wasn't something Santaro had ever considered, however little ones to raise in his own ways was appealing.

His life had begun to unfold on it's own. There were frequent violent encounters with other males and a series of forgettable moments with mares. He found the challenge of breaking up couples to be too tempting to resist. However, there was something addictive about ruining a life. Santaro relished in the knowledge that there were many who would think of him as the moment their life took a downward turn. Broken relationships, broken families, broken egos, broken hearts and broken bones, it was a pulsing excitement that would arise with every new meeting. What was he going to break next?

He stood gravely beside a boulder set in a small stream. The water curved and trickled past his dark hooves. He wasn't oblivious to the silence of the forest, but he could hardly connect the dots as to the meaning. Perhaps nature's wonders decide to grab an extra few hours worth of sleep. His eyes quickly darted to the sky to check for a storm, but the sky was clear of any cloud cover. The back hair on his neck flicked a few times before he dropped his head down and he began to drink from the water. His ears were pulled back, listening carefully for any noises.
