Ricky had a lot to learn. Moreover, he had a lot to learn about a lot of things. But most importantly, he needed to learn more about what it actually meant to be a Knight. Sure, his ancestor Oreius had attempted to teach him a great deal, but even he would admit that his lessons aren't completely valuable in the current day - Oreius didn't live during wartime like Ricky does, and there were different threats now than there were then. Instead, Ricky had a new teacher: Tony Darrow, or Camelot Knight of Earth. They had decided that their lessons would be best performed as civilians, late at night in the library for privacy and security. It was a strange place, the library. As someone who hardly knew how to read, a common source of embarrassment, the library seemed like a treacherous place that reminded him of his stupidity as stacks and shelves of books towered over him at every corner. But he tried to ignore them and stay focused on his lessons, sitting at a table with his tutor to start from the basics, hoping his reading struggles wouldn't become an issue.

Tony found the library to be his haven. He spent a lot of time there, when he wasn't on patrol or at home with his family. It was not just for work, it was where he began his patrols and where he brought knights and senshi if they needed his help.
It was his home away from home, and he wanted others to feel safe and connected there as well. Also it was accessible and not something that needed rent payments, and had no cameras.
And a hell of a lot of information to be had.
Tony had picked a few books he thought might help, sitting with Ricky at the table. He offered one of the books, clearing his throat.
"Well, ah, I think some of these books are good for learning about knights, in general, but everyone has their own idea for how the word now applies to us, in this war. I thought I'd dig up some references on Troy, and perhaps we could learn a bit about where your Wonder stems from." They could learn a lot from just visiting their Wonders personally, but there was also a lot in the history books, even contradictions that proved interesting. At least, Camelot had been finding it that way.

Ricky accepted the book with a weak smile, hardly giving the title on the cover a read through before placing it down with a shrug. "Alright, I reckon we can do that," he said a bit nervously. He did his best to think quickly, although his response still came out a bit delayed. "Maybe you can tell me some of the things you read, or point out things? Maybe some of them got pictures or stuff? I learn better with picture books." He cautiously opened the book that Tony had handed to him and began flipping through pages quickly looking for some pictures or photos of some kind, but was disappointed to not find any. "Maybe you got some in your books?"

Tony looked at him in wonder, surprised by his response.
"I... uh, well. I didn't read too much in advance, to be honest, I just looked up on the computer... and found some that had descriptions that i thought were applicable. Ah... I should have read through them, you're right."
He looked guilty and felt apologetic for it, thinking he should have done a bit more of the footwork to prepare for this whole thing, and that he was failing in his efforts to be a tutor already, three minutes in. He didn't realize just yet that Ricky looked rather uncomfortable.
He did begin to suspect, though, as Ricky began to look for pictures.
"Uh... I think there might be some photos in this one," he said, offering him one, but it was the thickest book on the table. Some sort of reference with small font and old timey or scanned photos and even smaller captions. It was written like a textbook by intellectuals, for intellectuals.

Ricky looked at the book and tried to read at least a sentence, but the tiny font and strange lettering was clearly confusing him. He started to flip through the pages at a really quick pace, only to stop and look at photos for a short while. None of it really made any sense to him, and it was obvious on his face. "Ya got anything in like, better English?" he asked, only half-joking. He figured it was some kind English, but not his English. Not American English. "Or maybe you can help explain it? I ain't in the mood to read much."

Tony frowned and rubbed the back of his neck as he looked through the books.
"Well I mean... ah. Are these too complicated for you? I can try to find something a bit easier to understand... I'm sorry if this is impersonal or maybe a bit too personal but... what level... I mean... what kind of books do you like to read?" he steered the conversation away from just flat out asking if Ricky could read to something a bit more approachable.
He wanted to make this effective and comfortable, and reading books that they barely understood wasn't going to help. And he could easily admit that some of these were above his head, too.
The librarian stood, though he didn't go anywhere just yet. He'd find some better books and try again in a moment but he wasn't sure what to grab. Or what might be insulting or not.

"I don't like to read any kind of books," Ricky responded pretty honestly. He did love reading the book his mother bought for him just before he moved, Oh, the Places You'll Go, but that was pretty much it and he'd only crack that open when he got lonely and homesick. He had a copy of the Bible in his apartment, too, but he never actually read that thing. "Look, I ain't the best reader," he mumbled, unpleased, hoping it wouldn't be pressed any further. He was growing frustrated with himself and already felt his blood boiling and his fists starting to clench.

Tony frowned.
Okay, so he was not the biggest reader on the planet. He only read fleetingly, even less now, and before it had just been stories about Camelot and Arthurian legend. He collected those, even before he had been awakened. Now they just served to help his understanding of who he was and where his powers had come from.
"It's alright," he said, nodding his head. "reading is different for everyone. We can go with something a little easier, and work from there. Maybe practice will help in both areas? Reading and you can learn about your Wonder at the same time."
He moved to get some different books, and it only took him a little time to find some easier books to read. History books geared toward younger audiences, maybe, but it wasn't about the content so much any more.

Ricky was still frustrated. He didn't want some reading lessons. He was almost twenty-three years old, he didn't need to feel so small. Tony was at least nicer about it all than Oreius would ever be, but it made him feel like crap nonetheless. "Do any of these books got stuff on them Negaverse and Dark Mirror witches?" he asked. For how long he has been in the war, he still knew very little about the people he was fighting other than they were undeniably evil. He saw what they could do - he had no question that he was in the right, but he didn't know what they wanted, what their purpose was, or anything about them. "All I know that they're bad and I'm s'posed to punch 'em."

"No, I haven't found any written records of the war, though I've looked. I'm going to keep searching, but it might be difficult to find anything about our fight that isn't recorded as something else, if that makes sense."
Historians sometimes had a way of taking events and making them make sense. History was said to be remembered by the winners, but it was also needed to be recorded in a way that made sense. It was the same way that people could keep living in Destiny City and yet somehow accept or ignore the existence of monsters.
"But you're right about that, at least. They are bad, at least the Chaos inside them corrupts them to be so. We can't let them succeed, but I don't think defeating them is the same thing as killing them. It's Chaos itself we should focus on. There are ways to drive it out, to purify a Chaos soldier into a senshi or a knight. But then, unfortunately, it's much easier for them to corrupt ours than it is for us to purify theirs." He sighed.

"Whaddya mean Chaos itself?" he asked back. Unlike the Senshi were often awoken with a Guardian Cat, Ricky was awoken to Troy alone - well, in the Surrounding. He had some guidance from the Zodiacs, and Virgo certainly tried to instill lessons in the past, but he wasn't paying much attention then and didn't take the job as seriously as he did now...which still wasn't all that seriously. Most of the times he powered up were for the faster speed to get home quicker, or to fight when threatened, rather than for active patrolling. "What is erm, Chaos, or whatever, anyways? It ain't like this job came with much 'splaining."

Tony looked thoughtful, then sat down again, and leaned back in his chair. He nodded his head as he tried to turn things over in his mind and find a reasonable way to explain Chaos that wasn't too confusing. He did not know all the details, just what he had been able to learn through the battles so far.
"Well. Chaos is the force that corrupts starseeds and creates Negaverse soldiers as well as the other dark senshi. It is also what makes people into youma, when they're corrupted too far. The more Chaos that fills a starseed the more corrupted they become, and the less... human, I suppose."
He frowned.
"It's hard to explain, but Chaos is what is making the enemies that we need to fight. It is what is guiding them, and, in its way, brainwashing them. Making them more and more evil and lost."

"So like, Chaos is the devil and then the Dark Mirror people are like witches or bad aliens, Senshi are the good aliens and we're like children of dead people?" Ricky asked. He had a really rough - and pretty terrible - understanding of what he was actually involved in. He tried to understand it all in his own terms, or using terms he had heard before, but it was rarely ever that accurate. "This sounds like that episode of South Park about Scientists religion that Tom Cruise is in. Basically we need like, Jesus to come save us all?" He wasn't the best student, but he was a firm believer that no question is a stupid question. His questions, however, were pretty stupid.

Tony stared at Ricky, not sure he even understood the breakdown that the younger knight had put together.
And he'd never seen South Park.
"I'm not sure if... Jesus... uhm... well. I think we need to fight for ourselves. We need to find a way to drive back the Chaos that controls the Negaverse and the Dark Senshi, so we can be allies instead of enemies. It's Chaos that's fueling this war."
Or so he believed. He knew there were terrible soldiers on the side of Chaos, and they deeply believed in what they were doing. But the Chaos inside them was what colored their perception of the world. He felt like they could be saved. Most of them.
He wasn't ready to give up on anyone.

"How'd ya reckon we're s'posed to do that?" he asked, a bit dumbfounded. He didn't think that he had anything in him to fight Satan or Chaos. Sure, he was strong and a good fighter, but he couldn't go toe-to-toe with the devil. It's the ******** devil. Or, Chaos. Or whatever. He knew the Senshi had magic - perhaps that was enough to stop them? Perhaps Princess Chronos would be the one to stop Chaos. She sure was pretty. Ricky's mind began to wander further from the topic at hand.
