A field strewn with boulders of various sizes, trees dead and alive, and occasionally accompanied with practice dummies. Unseated Shinigami are often assigned here to clean up the mess after training sessions. A large wall surrounds the area to retain any attacks that may cause damage to other areas.

We're coming up on our deadline, everyone! Ruka Kusabana
Captain of Squad 9 Finally here. Ruka smiled taking a deep breath of fresh air and field. She and Raine had sparred here frequently though such times had slowed somewhat with the peace of 36 years to accompany them. More often than not the pair of them had been so busy... But she still came out here whenever she could, often late at night just to train by herself. It was usually some Hakuda and Zanjutsu forms since proximity to the barracks when training would disturb the 9th Division members. Captains had terrifying pressure, after all, compared to the unseated shinigami.
"Well, here we are." she strode out towards the center of the field relishing the feeling of the sun's warmth washing over her. Suzaku hummed in her sheath and her adrenaline began to pick up in anticipation. A bright, beaming smile broke over her lips as she stopped at the center and turned to face them. Her eyes caught Nyhil's and she shot him a grin, cocking her head ever so slightly to the side "Are you ready?"

Nyhil Dakkar - - Captain of Squad Twelve - - Nyhil was considering the differences in this battle arena to the one in the twelfth squadron that was underground. He preferred that space but to some degree he had a 'home team' advantage in that environment so this was better suited to a more even test of ability. He made note of the length of the place but his own style didn't have much to do with distance. He followed for a time, pausing when they neared the middle so she still had a little room before they began in earnest. With a small smile more wolfish than happy and he nodded. Speaking with a tenor more exhilarated than a moment ago as he drew his zanpakuto. “I am Ruka. Let's enjoy our duel.”
He didn't waste time seeing how she would react without a released blade, there was little fun in a common fencing practice against such a strong foe. Instead he held the point of the wakazashi length weapon to his opposite palm, pressing it through his hand as he muttered the incantation. “Dominate, Zenchishi.”
As opposed to the splurge of blood one would expect from a weapon stabbed through someones palm instead his flesh rippled and as the two hands met they drew back with clawed weapons along the length of both, the metal seeming to grow out of his body where they wrap up around his wrists in vienlike patterns – the darkness of the metal continuing up til his elbows. The edges of his new 'claws' are slightly serrated and certainly don't seem as if they would be 'enjoyable' to be on the receiving end of. The half grin he wore as he moved in a flash step right at Ruka held slightly longer 'fangs' than before his release. His eyes seemed to hold their own inner illumination, easily visible as his first act was to immediately rush her. Before his transformation was even complete he was aiming one rake of one hand at her midsection.
He was grinning still, a large alteration from the mostly calm gentleman he'd been only seconds ago. We're coming up on our deadline, everyone! Ruka Kusabana
Captain of Squad 9 The woman grinned and quicly removed her haori letting it float gently onto a boulder as she cracked her knuckles. Her green eyes narrowed in steady focus though the excited glint had yet to leave them. She watched in quiet interest as the man released running a hand through her as she gave a short bark of laughter.
"Damn" she grinned.
Then there was no room for anything except instinct as the man rushed directly at her. She pushed off the ground lightly watching as the claws just skimmed the edge of her shihakusho even as she threw her weight back. Her foot came up aiming to kick up the man's wrist so the attempted assault would be redirected. If it didn't work then she supposed she was going to take a scratch but for the counter... well.
Her right hand circled Suzaku's hilt in the middle of her backflip and she grinned "Burn, Suzaku."
Fire roared out immediately after the command expanding in a circle around her. It was more a defensive lash than offensive but there was no denying that the heat and threat of the flames was very, very real. It cleared almost immediately after revealing the brunette woman again. Suzaku's twin sunset blades gleamed in her hands. Though opaque they seemed to be made of glass and as the sun beat down upon them they seemed to blaze ever so slightly. Ruka grinned an expression alight with a ferocity and will that had earned her the position of Captain to begin with. The fingers of one hand crooked ever so slightly in a 'bring it' gesture as the grin fell and her eyes narrowed once more. A steady calm seemed to fall over the woman her posture now faintly relaxed but still alert. She was ready for anything.
Don't give me those looks! We can finish this!

Nyhil Dakkar - - Captain of Squad Twelve - - Nyhil let out a light bark of laughter at the remark as to his release, it was as nice a description as he'd ever heard. Better than his own subordinate's observations as to it 'being creepy'. The kick came up clean but he was expecting some sort of block. He hadn't figured it would be such an easily exposed area though. He didn't get much of a hit but his claws didn't need it, with even the most minor grasp the serrated claws would come loose, adhere, and begin to dig into flesh.
He didn't have time to see if the claws were doing what they were meant to however as fire curled out from the woman. Elemental zanpakuto were always so troublesome when they had a range...he curled to the right of Ruka, part of his uniform burned along his left shoulder but it didn't seem to have gotten much of Nyhil himself. "Here I was already planning to tell you how hot you are, so nice to be proven correct."His odd sort of compliment was still strangely matter of fact though his tenor still possessed a menacing facet.
Nyhil stalked around her for a bit, it was easier to fill the air with his scent - the hormones his zanpakuto allowed him to put out - when he completely circled one of his opponents. It wouldn't work immediately, it was a more subtle aspect of his powers. Eventually he leaped forward again, higher than the last strike, though at the last moment he feinted back left and came from beneath with his opposite claw.

Captain of Squad 9 "Flattery will get you nowhere." she returned. It would have sounded curt and cold had it not been for the faint smirk that darted across her lips as she said it. Had she not been so intent on the fight that remark might have actually flustered her but she was too focused for that. So focused that the dull tingling sensation in her ankle was for the moment duly ignored. Looks like she'd taken a hit...
When he started circling her she relaxed into a simple standing position though her feet were planted in such a way as to quickly shift her balance. She didn't turn instead following him with her eyes and senses. She remained poised for movement.
There.
Dual nature granted her some experience with tricks of the trade, at least. She flicked one wrist the blade instantly moving on command to block and when it proved to be just a feint the other sliver of sunset was already blocking the real retaliation. She pushed it up ducking as she did and swinging her free blade for his midsection. Regardless of whether she hit or missed she'd push onward adjusting her grip on the defending katana to go for a stab before suddenly digging her feet into the ground. The sudden shift in momentum would allow her to spin as fire came off the blades sending a wave of flame right at him.
Don't give me those looks! We can finish this! ((Okay this is crap. I admit this is crap. But it's 1 in the morning. XD; ))

Nyhil Dakkar - - Captain of Squad Twelve - - "Is it simple flattery or simple truth?" He remarked offhandedly, also focused on the fight at hand or likely he could have come up with something more catchy to say instead. He noted the temporary missing claw on his hand but it had already reformed, the blade regenerating at a breakneck pace when it lost it's pieces. It would take a bit of time for it to dig deep enough into the flesh to cause damage but that wasn't his own long term offense.
By now the hormones would have at least started to take effect. He was quite curious what his choice would do to the squad captain - and what effect they would have on the field of battle at all. Having increased the hormone that altered physical attraction he was interested in how someone would react to a person they 'liked' mid-battle. It was a tad risky given Ruka could just as soon be gay - which would mean the effects would be lessened or all together removed. All in the name of science. The effects would only get worse the longer they remained in close combat and Nyhil only preferred hand to hand.
Perhaps surprisingly he would 'catch' the blade swung at his middle with the hand he used to feint, though most of it caught metal the part that didn't would draw blood. Nyhil didn't so much as wince at the contact despite the bleed, instead throwing his hand up and letting the blood flow outward in a splash, the blood sizzling when it met the flame but not completely dissipating. He took some fire to his arm that had already been cut but it and his uniform sleeve - now falling to the ground - accepted the brunt of it in his stead.
His skin was red, part of it blistering, but the pain of such a burn didn't even register on his face, he wasn't displeased enough with his performance yet but he might as well heal it. Sending another 'splash' of blood at Ruka before he literally bit his own wound, fangs digging into his own palm as he stalked around her. It was a short motion, the injection only took a second - snake like in that way - with this he finally winced but it was only a short show of pain. Then moments later his skin would already be reknitting itself, the color fading back to his usual pale complexion. His tenor sounded vaguely entertained despite the words seeming a frustration. "You do realize that adjusting one's bodily function to naturally resist fire is not a particularly easy alteration? I imagine you enjoy being difficult Ruka." 【Throughout the time it had taken Raine to get here, he had already established with the Third Seat that he wouldn't go easy on her as both she and his Captain had requested. He had a very messy zanpakuto- his zanpakuto spirits were very ruthless and protective of Raine. He certainly did not plan to go any farther than Shikai if need be. There was no way the training area could contain his Bankai without half of their Division noticing.
"Oh fine Rimida-san, as you wish." He succumbed with a chuckle. He was amused that they had mentioned it to begin with. "Here we are-." He was cut off by the sounds of the attacks that lashed at each other. Raine observed some of Nyhil's moves with a moderate interest. He had never seen the Twelfth Division Captain in action before. The atmosphere grew heavy with a certain pressure- as if a massive thumb was just pressing down upon him. The Captains were releasing their spiritual pressure, and Raine was almost completely sure they were not using the entirety of their pressure. Raine gestured off towards the unused portion of the training area, where a deep trench separated the fields.
"We can train over there. What say you, Rimida-san?"Let your colors burn and brightly burst ༄ Into a million sparks that all disperse And illuminate a world that will try to bring you down - but not this time.... ▅▅▅▅▅▅▅ ▅▅▅▅▅▅▅

We're coming up on our deadline, everyone! Ruka Kusabana
Captain of Squad 9 Ruka smirked faintly at the returned comment before her eyes widened ever so slightly. He'd just gotten cut. There was a small pang of unease in her chest before she pushed it aside frowning as the flame briefly obscured her vision. A few quick steps took her back a little farther and she held Suzaku's sunset blades aloft fire dancing along their edges. Had he just...?
Blood sprayed through the air and her eyes widened a flash step carrying her back a few more feet though some of the blood just caught her robes. That had been purposeful. Had it been an attempt to blind her? A small feeling of unease rang in the back of her mind and she tensed. For the beginning of their battle she'd been testing the waters and seeing his limits. Normally (as Raine could attest from the numerous spars lost) she was much faster and fiercer. But testing had been yielding nothing. There were little details, things she was sure she was missing in pieces of a bigger puzzle, but she hadn't found them and probably wouldn't find them until she upped the ante. A small smirk flickered across her lips Suzaku's gentle hum reminding her of light and warmth and the will of fire. To battle a Captain... she wouldn't surrender.
She snickered a challenge flashing in her eyes. The sight of the red and blistered skin caused a feeling of unease she was unused to but this time she kept the frown inward "Well I'm certainly not keen on making things easy."
The itch in the back of her ankle was getting worse, she noted before returning her attention to the vampire man. Again a challenge shone in her eyes. Her spiritual power raised a tic and the pressure came down a bit harder than before. Suzaku hummed excitedly and the air around her rippled faintly from heat. Then it dropped, dimmed and altogether disappeared and so did Ruka.
It flickered into existence a moment later a little to the side followed seconds later by a gleaming katana in a clean stab. Again she followed through following up with a round kick her small stature requiring that she push briefly off the ground to aim it at his chest. When the ground was beneath her again she'd spin in lashing deftly and efficiently in an attempt to get into his guard and inflict a deeper wound. The edges of the twin blades rippled with heat promising severe burns for those caught up in them.
Don't give me those looks! We can finish this! ((Er... too much sugar not enough hydration? I'm going with that excuse this time. -nod- /shot ))

Nyhil Dakkar - - Captain of Squad Twelve - - Nyhil's own fanged smirk widened into a dark grin as she dashed back from his blood, the slight shock on her face might as well been an exaggerated gasp to the detail oriented scientist. He noted the tensing of her muscles and kept scanning her carefully as he moved toward her again, apparently not content to give her a moment's respite after biting his hand. However she didn't seem to be wanting any given her answer to his jibe.
He wouldn't have time during the battle to do anything major, he'd been telling the truth, making his flesh fire resistant was a harder process than that. He would have some minor protection just because his skin was tougher than any average shinigami but not enough to just stand in the path of her flames. It being a friendly spar left him without some of the actions he might take in a battle against a true enemy, but that was perhaps part of challenge. When Ruka flashstepped near him his arm swung out, the metal tips of his fingers used to deflect the stab to his side, it was still close to him but this was not horse shoes. Hand grenades however? The heat radiating off the metal certainly made him feel it was close enough, he could feel his side burning just from the proximity to those blades. Burns that likely would have been detrimental to most from the agony of such an injury. Fortunately for him, he didn't feel pain in the same way as most.
With a minor grunt he was knocked back with the kick to the chest, his recovery was quick however. He dug into the ground with one of his claws; ricocheting himself back at Ruka. His maneuvers were haphazard yet manipulated, coming back at her tooth and nail, claw moving at her mid-section while his face went in to bite her extended arm. He was viciously fast to bend forward, a light yellowish-green sheen on the edges of his fangs – as though there was venom within the extended canines. Nyhil had purposefully trained for the use of bites in combat and while most would find it an odd choice it didn't leave him open to do so. His other senses provided for the temporary loss of complete vision a failure in such a strike would undoubtedly incur.
By now his previous 'broken nail' would have embedded itself enough into her flesh to start interfering with the control of her ankle, pressing against nerves as the piece of Nyhil's blade/finger began to do it's work in interrupting the bodily function of whatever it dug it's way into. He hoped that it would be enough to insert a few a few more claws into her, it only took a vague strike, but claw or fang, whatever he had ready couldn't be pleasant for her. Thus far he wasn't coming out unscathed either. She'd likely bruised his chest and possibly cracked a rib - though it was hard to tell from his full on assault.
(ooc: Yes he's still releasing hormones, not that they're a big deal really - I know lots of girls that kicked the crap out of people they liked. Likely test failure on that one Mr. Dakkar.)Location: Squad 9 Training GroundsOutlook: Enthrallment with the battleHealth: Questionable? Hard to tell on appearance. We're coming up on our deadline, everyone! Ruka Kusabana
Captain of Squad 9 He was moving like lightning and she was finding it difficult to react. Almost as soon as he was knocked back he was coming after her. She kicked off the ground hard in an effort to get away from those claws hearing the sound of cloth tearing but not yet feeling the sting of pain. Her left foot touched the ground.
Pain shot up her ankle and it gave way beneath her making her stumble. There was a burning at her midsection and she bit down on her lip to prevent a curse from slipping out. All of that went out the window when she felt teeth sink into her bare arm. Her thought process went somewhere along the lines of the flat, quick understanding of a fight- then it took a sharp turn, spun around and hit the gas pedal as it veered in the opposite direction straight into the part of her mind that was all reflex and no thought with just a touch of fury.
One of Suzaku's blades slipped from her grasp the golden blade connecting them ensuring that she didn't lose her weapon. Her now free hand immediately curled into a fist reiatsu curling in the air about them before suddenly condensing in her hand. There was a rush of movement and quite suddenly Ruka unleashed what had to have been one of the most vicious right hooks she'd ever delivered. She felt the blow connect and watched the body fly her breath coming in pants as she struggled to compose herself. The rage consumed her for a little longer before she cracked her eyes open glaring at the crater in the wall where his body presumably lay. Suddenly hyper aware of the pain in her ankle, the growing pain in her midsection and the definite pain where the puncture marks remained she cursed swiftly and loudly in a variety of different languages shaking her bitten arm as she did so as if to dislodge something from it. Movement was limited to a hop that, while powerful, was still an obvious detriment though she didn't really have it in her to pay any mind. He'd bitten her. He'd ******** bitten her!
"Madre maldito hijo de puta! That ******** hurt!" a hiss escaped through her teeth and she clenched her right hand briefly before picking up Suzaku's other blade. The golden chain gleamed in the light as she reared her hand back before tossing the right katana directly at Nyhil. Instead of stopping short as a normal blade would have done the chain seemed to stretch letting the makeshift projectile shoot forward charged with her fiery reiatsu.

Nyhil Dakkar - - Captain of Squad Twelve - - Strike complete; the unforgiving claws had many more dangerous vital targets in the torso area of the body. Nyhil was only paying vague attention to the pieces that would break off into her middle, more aware of their loss in any way because of his exceptional senses. The more important of his attacks had hit home. It only took a moment to inject the venom, though the blood that flowed from the wound into his mouth was distracting elation. Normally he kept his addiction to donors or animals only and live human blood - warm from the vein and still flowing gave him a moment of pause. It was too sweet to immediately let go, this was a friendly fight after all he didn't have to be concerned for his life so he hesitated to allow himself a swallow. Therein was his mistake, it didn't take long but it took too long for a reasonable combat. He was just about to withdraw from the sinful ambrosia when Ruka's fist detached his face from her arm post haste.
The force of the strike was too much for him to keep his footing, his claws detached upon entry so his strike to her middle wouldn't keep him at all grounded, and he was too high from the ground to repeat his trick of slamming into the dirt for traction. Airborn he didn't even have time to flail before he struck the ground hard enough to knock the wind from his lungs. He was fairly certain his jaw was broken and slightly displaced but he wouldn't have much time to waste on recovery. The other woman was cursing at him outside of the depressed earth his impact had created. He'd of made a remark but he was too busy choking back in air. This time he had to roll to the side, still clipped in his upper arm by the firey blade as he went. The burns erupting along his shoulder again.
Nyhil pushed himself up, his body bent forward at an odd angle to compensate for other injuries, his jaw slightly displaced from the punch Ruka had delivered. “Danku. Splitting Void.” He spit the words out still gasping for air, his lungs were less than pleased at his impact with the ground. The shimmering wall blinking into reality between them. It wouldn't buy him long, but she couldn't just throw spells (or swords) at him for a short moment. Raising his clawed hands he pulled the dislocated jaw into place with a sickening snap and bit his own blood covered lip – though the liquid on his fangs was a different color than a moment ago. He managed to remark after a moment of recovery. “I didn't use any deadly sort of venom Ruka...no reason to take it personally.”
The captain didn't really understand complaints about pain in any form of battle – even a spar. Such discomfort is how you know you're still here, unpleasant as it could be it agony was what let you know you were still alive. His own wounds were likely starting to compound since he could actually feel several of them but he was not one to back down easily. His guard still raised as he pressed his glasses up his face with a claw, wondering idly when the toxin he'd injected into Ruka's blood stream would take effect. It wasn't deadly but it would interfere with the fine control of her muscles, it usually worked fairly well in battle but he hadn't tested it on Captain's before.Location: Squad 9 Training GroundsOutlook: Slightly confusedHealth: Questionable? We're coming up on our deadline, everyone! Ruka Kusabana
Captain of Squad 9 There was the grim sort of satisfaction that came with hitting a target. Ruka tugged lightly on the blade still in her hands to call back the other. It came to her hands easily and the brunette resisted the urge to wince as she felt the pain in her midsection. If the virtual uselessness of her ankle was anything to go by she didn't really have much time left to her and she refused to go down without a fight.
"That wasn't personal that was reflex" she retorted instantly though the clipped, acerbic tone seemed to imply otherwise. She sighed ignoring the pain it inflicted, and rolled her shoulder. Her words were honest just filled with a bit of a sting. She wasn't too happy about being bitten and after meeting with Nyhil a few times she'd made a personal promise to herself: if the man ever bit her she'd hit him so hard it would make the times she'd punched Raine out of her office look like child's play. Judging by the fact that the man looked a bit of a wreck... well it wasn't perfect but she could live with it. Again she sighed, and then her lips curved in a grin.
"You're pretty strong. If I'da hit anyone else like that they probably woulda died." she commented idly twirling the sunset blades in her hands. Her Rukongai accent was slipping in a bit more prominently, most likely due to the pain but also a bit as a purposeful distraction. She was considering her options. He said he didn't use any 'deadly' venom...
There was a number of things that could mean and all of them would be no good for her. She didn't know what he'd done to her yet but all in all she'd lost her ability to use one leg and what seemed to be the very nails he used as a weapon had rapidly made their home in her middle. Time was running out and so were her options and she refused to go down without making a hell of a lot more trouble for him. Suzaku hummed in her mind and her green eyes narrowed, considering. She needed backup and Suzie was just the one to do it, but...
A moment longer to wait. She didn't want to use her trump card just yet. She upped the ante on her spiritual pressure a bit more watching out of the corner of her eye as the air began to ripple around her once more. For those more inclined color wise there was a vague maroon tint to her reiki. Shifting both her blades to one hand she raised one hand aiming directly at Nyhil and making no attempt to make it seem she was aiming anywhere else. The Danku had to be gotten rid of and she wasn't going to move head on in this condition. She'd provoke him first and move from there.
"Hadō #91. Senjū Kōten Taihō." instead of the usual ten, five pink lights appeared around her before shooting forward. It was intentional, she didn't exactly want to decimate the field and however she felt about being bitten she wasn't out to murder the man. Doing the full incantation would just be overkill.
Don't give me those looks! We can finish this!

Nyhil Dakkar - - Captain of Squad Twelve - - “Yes, you sound not at all personally offended.” He remarked in an observant quip, slowly licking blood from his lip and offering a broad smile before he added. “You have a tantalizing flavor.”
Nyhil was teasing her, but to a point he was also baiting her. People always got so offended if he told them they tasted delightful. Of course he could have said she was repulsive but he was much too much of a gentleman to lie in that way. He was still healing and having a little banter filled the void as she also seemed to be considering her next move. He chuckled when she remarked on his fortitude, rolling his shoulders. “I believe I might be getting under your skin. My sweet Ruka, you would be shocked to know how long I can endure."
He noted the alteration of her voice, the difference in accent to words as she continued. It was clear annoying her likely wasn't the best course of action but he'd always enjoyed pushing others. She was plotting something and he couldn't be making it any easier on himself. Still the value more than equaled out to the cost for the often bored Captain. A dark brow rose as she uttered the words for her spell and he was forced to duck away from his shield as the pink arrows cut through it, causing his Danku to fail. Unless she activated Bankai he wouldn't do the same, it was poor sportsman ship but just standing back didn't seem to be much of an option either.
His venom would only work to heal so much in a short period and he was still sporting several visible injuries as he flash stepped up to her, body bent at an odd angle to help compensate for some of the broken bones. Nyhil's glowing eyes were almost right in front of her as opposed to going for her back or either of her sides, an X shaped slash coming down at her with blood splashing from wounds on either of his arms. It seemed he still purposely would throw his blood on her...though as of yet there wasn't anything that it had done to her uniform. Location: Squad 9 Training GroundsOutlook: amusedHealth: 50%? We're coming up on our deadline, everyone! Ruka Kusabana
Captain of Squad 9 That last line struck a bit of a nerve though perhaps not in the way the man had hoped. Her body tensed up as approached and when he appeared she forced herself to push back on her good foot. She made sure to keep her mouth shut as the blood splashed over the sleeves of her shihakusho her blades crossed before her in an 'x' shape as well. Her eyes flashed the green in them unnaturally bright and she grinned, wild and fierce.
"Bankai. Hisaye Suzaku."
Just as before fire blazed out this time much wider and with more ferocity and power than before. When it cleared Ruka stood again at its center. In place of her twin blades she held only the one of Suzaku's sealed state though upon her back hovered four pairs of the blades she had used in her shikai. Still she was not alone. The fire, instead of dispersing as it had in her shikai, swirled and flowed behind her. The cry of a mighty and ancient avian pierced the air as Suzaku took form the phoenix regarding their opponent with bright, blazing gold eyes. Ruka's shoulders seemed to relax ever so slightly now that one of her oldest companions was by her side though the glare she was giving him remained just as scathing.
"There's no 'my'." she replied, voice startlingly cold "I don't belong to anyone."
It might seem an... odd thing to take offense to but it irked her in a way she couldn't quite explain. Perhaps it was the life in Rukongai where everyone stepped all over you when you were a kid and then you had to fight your way up when you were an adult. She'd seen her share with Yasushi struggling to keep his shelter afloat for the children of Rukongai, when the kids had to scrabble to find work or food. Though there'd been a great deal of kindness from strangers there had also been cruelty. Or perhaps, if she was to go back a few years, it was the way the Quincy had treated the Arrancar during their war. Objects, things to be used and then disposed of. Hell, that was even how they'd seemed to treat each other. Either way, it really pissed her off.
"Suzaku."
The command was uttered softly, almost a whisper, but as soon as the last syllable left her lips the bird was spreading its wings. It flapped them closed and fire wrought a blazing trail over the earth heading for their target. Ruka's feet left the ground letting her wings remove the weight. Hidden behind the fold of Suzaku's wings she allowed herself to close her eyes for an instant gritting her teeth in pain. With every passing second it became more and more difficult to ignore but she was determined to persevere. She took a deep breath and readied herself for the returning onslaught.
Don't give me those looks! We can finish this! ((I heard so many innuendos in there that it's starting to physically pain me how oblivious Ruka is. OTL To be honest I didn't expect this reaction from Ruka but she sort of wrote herself. ))
