Peep was uncomfortably rotund. The Acha doe was petite girl even for her own species, but with her pregnancy came a very full belly that left her completely unbalanced and poked out at either sides as if the babies within would soon burst forth. Sometimes she thought they might do just that. They were really quite wriggly; their occasional little kicks often surprising her at the most inopportune moments. Her fault for taking on a mate that was really far too large for her to handle. She blushed just thinking about it.
As she searched out a place to rest, she was tired but grateful. Peep looked forward to when her offspring finally arrived and was intent on being the best mother she could be.
Her dainty legs looking quite strange beneath her new bulk as Peep carefully slid down a small embankment, seeking the shallow mud of the creek side. The little doe had already been (thankfully) warned of how Totoma young were born and now she only hoped her children would be strong and healthy.

Once upon a time, before all this Legendary business, when her cousins were still small - fillies and colts - their mother had returned from a nightly sojourn with a swollen frog. Not swollen the way males inhaled to call for mates, but swollen all over, a globe with legs. It would die soon, Grey had said to her brood, watch and learn. Cue Queue had been there, dallying a few days (how idyllic it had been, before all this Legendary business) after a hefty hunt, and had watched; it did indeed die soon. She still wasn't sure what her young cousins had been supposed to learn. The only discernable effect, as far as she could tell, was that Left was traumatised and cried for three days. But that boy always did know how to cry.
In any case, that was what this bloated Acha doe reminded her of, that hapless frog. But she was hardly going to die - quite the opposite, her tingling Legendary senses could tell her. Or maybe she would die. Her tingling Legendary senses didn't exactly extend that far. It was part her own fault really, this tiny little doe: her tingling Legendary senses also told her the blood that pulsed through the impatient life within wasn't all Acha. Far from it, in fact.
"Didn't your mother ever tell you to pick on someone your own size?"

Peep made a sound very reminiscent of her name and turned awkwardly to seek the owner of the voice. When she found it, she studied Cue for a long moment before offering a shy smile. "No." She replied quietly; her soft voice holding an underlying tone of amusement. "But I don’t think she had a Totoma in mind when she was giving out advice." She walked the last few steps to the muddy creek and sunk gratefully into its soft embrace, figuring her new companion wouldn't mind if she got comfortable before they had a chat. From there she turned her head back to the impressive Kimeti and smiled again. "My name is Peep." Jun D Oh dear, Left crying for three days over a frog. XD

"I'm Cue," she returned casually, sauntering down towards the mud, "What's a doe like you doing with a Totoma mate." It wasn't really a question. "Pretty far along, aren't you? Any trouble?"
Shortly in the distance, a black-and-white wasp started over with a speculative buzz, but, noting the subject of his mistress' inquiry, began to wander away.Ruriska Sorry for the long delay, Ruri darlin', I've been rushing a deadline. QAQ Ahahah, you know how Left is... XD

"He was very nice." Peep murmured. At the time, she certainly hadn’t been thinking about what might happen in the future. Instincts she hadn’t realised were there had taken control. She wriggled a bit, the mud and water squishing around her. "This is my first time but, I’m sure it won’t be long now. I can feel it." She considered the mare’s question, her gaze following the wasp when it appeared. "Only… it’s been uncomfortable. I’m worried for them." Peep sighed. "I just want them to be healthy." Jun D No problemo. ;o; No rush here! G'luck with your deadline stuff.

"You don't say," she muttered in response to her admission of discomfort, not too indiscreetly, "where's that very nice Totoma of yours now, if you don't mind me asking?"Ruriska Thank you, darlin'. <3 Am I dragging this out too long? D: I'm really enjoying it, so Cue is being difficult and cynical on purpose! XD

Peep answered quickly and honestly, having no issue with offering information on her life with a stranger, "I don't know. But he comes to see me every few days." She was very grateful that he hadn't been a buck with no interest in his offspring; otherwise she would have been a very panicky first-time mother. Jun D Not at all! xD I'm having fun.

"Every few days, huh. Not bad. Not bad." She nodded absently for a moment more before lapsing into distracted silence. She was thinking. Adding pluses and minuses. Calculating a balance. That was a really small Acha. That was a really big belly.
"Listen," she finally said, not yet convinced of the balance, but victim to a nagging sense of responsibility, "do you know what I am?"

Peep blinked. What was she? A Kimeti, certainly. But that could hardly be the answer. Apparently having missed the ‘Welcome to the Swamp’ course that covered Legendaries, the Acha gave an honest, “… no,” and an apologetic smile. “Should I?”

"No, no. I thought not," she shook her head mildly, considering her words, "look, I don't mean to scare you but - you're a very small doe. This could kill you, you do know?"Ruriska Cue is the Surgeon General's Warning. XD

Peep didn't saw a word, but her eyes widened with concern. It had not occurred to her that her own life was in danger. Her only worry had been for her children and even now, now that the Kimeti had revealed the possibility of her death, all could think about was them growing up without her. She had to find their father. She had to make sure somebody was there, just in case she didn't make it. Jun D Now I want to see Cue on posters when I go to the doctors.

Cue sighed.
"I can see it in your eyes. You never once thought about that. And now that you have, you worry only for your children. Motherhood! I'll never understand it. But I suppose the impulse alone is enough of a sacrifice to tip the scale," words esoteric to all but herself; nevertheless, significant, "I can help you - well, as far as the Swamp will allow, and the Swamp is usually very good about things like these. I just want you to promise me one thing."Ruriska That would improve doctor visits by 10000%. ;A;

Peep didn't know who or what this doe was, but she offered hope. If she said she could help, then the little Acha chose to believe she truly could. "Anything." She promised instantly.

"Promise me that if you ever get yourself into a situation like this again, you'll go and find a Legendary - ask around, there's bound to be Kin who know where to find one - and beg a blessing for safety, your children and you both. You could drop by Rise & Shine's - they sell food at the salt marsh - first, but I'm not always there, and you'd probably have to move as soon as you get, it can be a long trip. So just grab whoever's available. Can you do that for me?"

"A-a Legendary?" Peep repeated, before the confusion in her eyes cleared and she gave a firm nod. The ‘what’ now explained, partly anyway, Peep was happy to bind herself to that pledge. "I promise." Legendary, Rise & Shine, bless for safety; she would remember. Jun D This is the cutest blessing ever.
