Shadows began their slow ebb from every nook and cranny, pushing back the sunlight it seemed as they flowed and spread like a virus. The sun was setting, it's warmth giving rays giving way to the night. Though a full retreat seemed to be underway there were still plenty of golden beams shining brightly, keeping the darkness at bay.
Jade eyes blinked disdainfully at the presence of the light. Though he had, in attempts to appease the blood stained alicorn and get him to leave him alone, been venturing out in his runs for food and supplies earlier and earlier in the evening it did not change his lack of enjoyment. The alicorn had explained that living was not simply existing, but going forth and interacting with others present in this world. By stating that he was going out during the day Ryker could at least say he was trying to interact, even if he made no other efforts to contact or communicate with any other living being.
A heavy sigh escaped Rykers lips as he looked out over the stretch of forest before him, his breath freezing and fleeing as a puff of smoke as he surveyed the snow covered ground. Today would be a long venture it seemed. With a a slight grunt and a ripple of pain washing over his scarred figure Ryker set out for his weekly supply run.

A chill hung in the air. The sun displayed itself like a bright colored peacock, giving it's grand display towards the end of its day. As the sun set, the land became cool and frigid. It would be very cold tonight. One small flutter bobbed her way between trees, with no set direction. The very glow of lasting light, doing no more than adding to the confusion she was in. Tawingo, was lost. All of her life had been spent in one small grove. Her family came to visit her there, but it was her preferred home. Tending to the flowers and fruits that grew there gave her purpose. Many flutters took a side hobby of pollination. To Tawingo, it was more than that. It was part of her soul to live amongst the plants and help them. Being one with her own small ailment, she understood the need to depend on others. Tawingo depended on that grove, because it was unmoving, and easy to find her way around when she couldn't see. Yes, sometimes Tawingo was blind.
Only recently had she met a stallion that caused her to leave her place of infinite security. But he had vanished just as quickly as he appeared. Now she had no idea how to get back to her home.
Frail lady bug wings began to shake and shutter from the cold. Nerves likely didn't help. Once her wings began to shiver, her whole body quaked from the cold. It was going to be a long night.

Most had a tendency to say that the sun set too quickly; Ryker thought otherwise. Despite this, and the fact that he despised the brightness that surrounded him due to the shining orb in the sky, Ryker came to appreciate the glow not too long after he began his venture. Snow melted and soaked his fur on his legs with each hobbled step, and though he was use to the cold by now ice would make things quite difficult. The cold affected his body in ways it never had in his 'younger' years. It seemed to seep into his very bones and threaten to turn them to ice. It was if the blood in his very veins no longer had the ability to sustain their own temperature over prolonged periods of time and threatened with each passing moment to solidify and explode. Or... That at least is how it felt to the stallion.
The frown that was seemingly permanently plastered across the striped stallions maw was deepening and getting worse, with disgust and hatred mixing as his exposure to the world around him continued. It all was pointless. Why had he thought that there would be any hope for him to find food or supplies with the world covered in the chilling blanket of frozen flakes of water? He had been stupid he would admit to himself at a later time. For now, it was best just to get out of the cold.
Ryker turned and began to make his way back to the disheveled hole he called home, taking comfort in the silence that stood on the frigged air... Or... It had been silent a moment ago. A soft hum or buzz filled the air, a sound that sent shivers down the striped stallions spine. Jade eyes darted from side to side, searching for the owner of the buzzing sound. Was he hallucinating? He had to be he told himself as he continued to be on his guard. There were no flies in winter - it was to cold for them... But he still was on edge. Hallucination or not he didnt like the thought, nor the memory, associated with the soft buzzing of tiny wings.

The growing cold in the air made it difficult for her to fly. Soon, she would have to land and pop into a larger form. Traveling on foot would be easier at the rate her wings were shuttering from the cold. Zig-zagging was counter productive to moving forward anyways!
Before she could think about it further, a blur of orange and black slipped into her sights. Oh goodness! The frail flutter-bug had been so washed out from the cold on her wings, with the combination of already bad eyes, that she failed to see the stranger in front of her! With a mess of legs and wing, she tried to stop herself before smacking directly into their face.
"Aiyeeeeeeeeee!" a tiny shriek escaped her lungs. Her heart raced from the startle. Tawingo did her best to right herself, and flit away from them. Dear spirits, she hoped they didn't step on her! It had almost happened once before. The average flutter could be easily seen, typically the size range of various birds or large butterflies. Tawingo was not your average flutter! She quite possibly could be the smallest of her kind. Even though she had wings of a ladybug, she was bigger than that. Though, not by much! The bold blue of her coat helped her to not be mistaken for the tiny spotted bug. Normally. Still, tiny was tiny. One step would end her life!
Stepping on her? First she had to get away from their mouth! She hadn't thought that they could eat her instead, if they butt open their mouth and snap!

Too focused on what was further out, Ryker failed to see what was just before his eyes until he, quite literally, was hit in the face by it. The soft buzzing loomed ever closer until it was drowned out by a tiny screech. That was when the impact happened, and to be quite honest it was neither the force nor location that sent the stallion reeling backwards, but the sheer shock and surprise that he had failed to notice something so close to his proximity. Unsteady legs flailed as the male lurched backwards, the force of his own actions causing them, in their weakened condition, to give out and buckle. With a flinch of pain Ryker closed his eyes, breathing heavily as he gathered his thoughts and energy. Tiny buzzing wings, the screech of another living being, and impact with his face too forceful to be that of a mere bug.... Very few things in this world possessed all these qualities. Two of the three, there were many, but all three - Ryker could only think of one possibility. It had not happened many times, and he could only remember ever having seen it once, but despite her preference for her larger form his mother had actually shrunk herself before. The ability of a flutter soquili to shrink down to the size of an insect - An odd ability, and one Ryker presumed that his sister possessed as well since she had been gifted with their mothers wings. In a flash navy lids darted open and Ryker strained to see the being that had hit him so. He was careful in his movements, he did not wish to crush whomever it may be that was there - though this want was not based on the value of the life of the being, but the fear that it may be his sister, or worse, his mother.

Well, she didn't get stepped on! That was a relief. Her mouth gaped open at the sound of the other soquili pushing back in a rush. It sent a small gust of air her way. Tawingo spun around like a leaf falling from a tree. Control over her trajectory was lost as she plopped to the ground with little to no sound. Oh no. Had she startled them? She wasn't even concerned for her frail existence, but thought that she might have harmed them! Obviously she wasn't hurt at all. Tawingo mustered her strengths and popped into her large size. The dirt around her puffing away as she did. Well...large for her. She was about the size of a foal! Though she was more proportioned than a foal, and it would be obvious to most that she was an adult. Most. "I beg your pardon!" she did not hold back, did not fear at all. She simply ran right up to the lime green eyed soquili before her. "Terribly sorry! Did I hurt you?" she cocked her head to one side, looking at him with the deepest sincerity. She took note of his scars, and then looked at his eyes. The little flutter bug was confused. Maybe she didn't cause those scars, but she couldn't help but feel empathy for the stranger before her. She wouldn't be rude though. She didn't stare at them, and kept her gaze fixated on his eyes. "I normally take care to watch where I'm going. Very clumsy of me."
