Summary - Pretty much Rep's specialisation is extreme terrain, so he'll be running a hunting mission to the arctic. But with a twist in so far as it'd spark an idea, restoring the base collectively. Like ..castaway or swiss family robinson with less coconut phones and more blistering cold.
Location – Around the location of the North Pole, formerly an established and thriving base, now derelict, the outpost is in dire need of repair, what furniture and items are there are broken from the original scuffle or have been exposed to arctic temperatures for some time. Whatever else remains within the base itself is up to you guys. Was there a library or at least a cache of books? Did they have any sort of research and development on the base itself? There is a building, functional and useable but in dire need of repair (It might also be prudent to clear out all the blood and body parts of the last inhabitants too) The nature of this base would also mean that it was up to the hunters how they make it suitable for living, interior design and the like is entirely in their court.
Main Dangers
+++++The weather is the dominant factor in this mission, snow and cutting winds are lethal if underestimated and even with the help of a weapon can be dangerous. The outpost itself is equipped with a heat barrier, much like that found on previous excursions (e.g Antarctica) but initially this barrier would be non-functional. Returning this barrier to a usable state would be the domain most likely of life/moon/mist if anyone wanted to organise something for that. If not I’m game to make up mechanics for this too. Anything people don’t want a slice of, I’ll happily provide bits and bobs for.
+++++The other danger of course is the native wildlife. Polar bears are around but the real danger is the less conventional wildlife, the area is rife with yetis and other fear creatures with an affinity for the cold. Far from human civilisation the place is probably a haven for Halloween excursions into the human world.
Lead-in
First priority in terms of the base would be drawing people’s attention to it ofc. Rep wants to run a mission to hunt yetis (because he has a problem with them after his first mission) and would discover after a bit of research that the base was still empty. Probably posters would follow along with an exploration mission out there.
I’ll run this yeti hunt and during it, people can investigate the place as they please. It will mostly be simple dice mechanics, with the option of self-spawned auto attack mobs (much like in Ems) probably with a GMed boss at the end.
After this point, Rep would want to take back the base and hold it, and would be on board with help from anyone else with interest.
Suggestions
The shields – bringing these back online might be fun, maybe someone would want to look into upgrading them to keep the bloody yetis out
Guarding – Running patrols, killing off monsters that get in, anyone could chip in with this.
Infirmary – Maybe a little field infirmary could be set up, a nice place for those in training in this field to practice their learned skills.
Research – Ideal spot to test out cold weather tech (more penguin shenanigans maybe?)
Artifacts – You artifact hunters might have things to find out here as part of your quests etc maybe?
