Another Saturday spent alone in this month of romance. Sure Valentine's Day was over but that didn't change the fact that most people seemed to carry that lovey-dovey feeling throughout the month of pink. The result was that Delilah spent most of the weekend alone just doing errands that she had put off because of school.
This was no different. Today's main task was to visit one of the music stores she bought her sheet music from. Even if she wasn't taking lessons weekly anymore, Delilah was still asked to come play at her former school's concerts every now and then. So now she needed to find a new piece to play.
Walking down the street in her favorite pair of dark blue jeans and white tank with her leather, she really wasn't trying to be noticed. Why bother when everyone was already paired?

Nathan Darrow never took a day off from being himself. Whether that was while powered up and using the name Chaonis, or just wandering the streets as a citizen of them, Nate had a very set idea of himself and he lived up to it. That was easy, because he kept the bars for himself very low, and tried to make sure that everyone around him did the same thing.
He was browsing a music store today, not interested in buying anything, per se, though if he saw something he wanted he might spring for it. Or just take it, if he had a good chance at succeeding. Or if he was bored and wanted to see what would happen if they saw him.
Pushing buttons was far too easy.
He saw a girl enter the store and arched an eyebrow. The only type of girl that walked into a place like this was either trying too hard to get noticed, or into terrible music. he watched her, though, curious enough. She at least provided him a new target.

Delilah didn't feel the sudden set of eyes on her as she walked past the counter and towards the back. She had come to this store quite enough to know where they kept the pieces and trinkets for the piano. The front of music stores always seemed to be for the 'in' piece of the time. Needless to say that was typically for guitar or bass. Why half the world thought it would be a good idea to take it up was beyond her.
Still she had her own goal in mind as she turned the corner and stood before a wall of sheet music. Items ranged from the classic to the modern day and back to underground.
Quickly dismissing the classical, Delilah set her eyes on something that would come as a bit more unexpected. Picking up a a set of music, she flipped it open. Suddenly her eyes scanned the page and the fingers on her right hand seemed to take a life of their own as if there was a keyboard under them. After a moment, she put the first down and picked up a second. This went on for two more pieces before she picked up one and smiled down at it.

Nathan cleared his throat and moved toward her, quiet enough for a guy wearing so many chains and things that looked like they would make a lot of noise. He had learned how to walk with confidence and stealth, just from his time as a senshi and his mucking around following youma or using his powers to break into a building.
Either way.
"You know, there are actual pianos you can use, instead of fingering the air like that," he said, when he was close enough to invade her personal bubble and lean over her shoulder. He looked down at the paper with mild interest, though he wasn't the best at reading music yet despite his lessons. He wasn't the most dedicated, and he had been slacking recently. He usually just played by ear.
Oddly enough, he was a piano guy.
"Not that the fingers are a bad thing. Paints a few interesting pictures in my head."

Either he was really as quiet as a mouse or Delilah was so far gone into her own head that she never caught the presence of someone behind her until his voice killed her the inner music. So startled was she that the hand she had been 'playing' with swung back in the direction of the voice looking to smack whatever came creeping over her side.
Delilah's face went from surprise to embarrassment. "I'm sorry." She spoke pulling her hand back and covering her mouth. He had startled her. It was just a reaction and she hoped he wasn't mad. After all, she wasn't that strong to start with.
But by his look, she seemed to fall back into her normal face with ease. Something told her that he might not be unfamiliar with slaps. Still, Delilah had been wrong before about a person's appearance.
"But I didn't want to use the electronic ones and wear headphones. Nothing sounds right on those."

Nathan had a very slap-able face.
He watched her and grinned at her response, realizing just what he had gotten into here. It was all too perfect, it really was. She had no idea he was the same senshi that had so gallantly saved her that night. In his head, he had been profoundly amazing and she was likely pining for him after he left her in safety.
He was just that memorable. And he had been fantastically heroic, minus a few awkward moments he chose not to remember.
"So use one of the player ones? Or are you scared that you'll play badly? I guess that makes sense, if you're thinking about headphones. So maybe I should thank you, then, for sparing us the whole ordeal?"
Goading was just something he did naturally, even when it did not make sense. What was he doing, exactly? Did he want her to play the piano and was trying to insult her into action? Or maybe he was just trying to piss her off?

All remorse Delilah could have had second before due to slapping him suddenly fluttered away like a butterfly in the wind. She was even tempted to smack him again for his insult to her ability. Did this man not realize that the piece she picked up would have been little to no interest to someone who didn't know what they were doing?
"Are you always this charming or did you just think I would be easy to fluster?" Delilah spat back before closing the music sheets, putting them back on the stand and walking towards the back piano she had used a few times when the store wasn't busy. Without evening taking a seat on the bench provide, her fingers hit the keys in a fast furry. Dancing over the ivories, Delilah's red eyes were still locked on the man who had driven her into action. She looked angered and the energy that came from her music showed it. It was fast, rapid, and dark, working to echo within the core of a person. Yet it ended just as quickly as it began.
"Satisfied?" She asked picking her hands up and crossing her arms under her chest. Her head cocked slightly waiting for some sort of retort.

Nate watched her, his grin remaining though his eyes were dark with interest as she stalked across the store. He followed at a leisurely distance, and stopped a few feet from where she was playing. He listened to the music she made and knew she was mad at him without having to look at her face.
Though he was, and he could see exactly how much he had annoyed her with his... general being.
He grinned at her broadly, nodding his head in a mock bow.
"I save a special brand of charm for some people. You're one of the lucky ones. But hey, that wasn't bad. Maybe you shouldn't be so self conscious, and then you wouldn't get mad when people ask you to play." Like he had been an innocent party, not badgering her in any way, but simply asking her to play for him.
But no, that wasn't the case. He had forced her into it and he imagined she'd only gotten mad not because she was shy, but because he was jerk. He was likely just teasing her again, in his way.
He smiled and put his hands on his hips, canting his head to match the tilt of hers, giving her a look that wouldn't melt butter.
"What was that, anyway?"

Oh he was an annoying one alright. And lucky her, Delilah knew that he had decided she was his present target based on the fact he watched her play and now threw back another snarky comment. She now had two choices: Ignore or Fight back.
Ignoring wasn't really a choice in her mind.
"Or you can learn to ask politely and not insult someone into doing things. Though I have a gut feeling you get a twisted pleasure out of the later." She fired back with a cocky smile of her own. "Making up for something? Lack of skill yourself maybe?"
When he asked about her piece, Delilah just rolled her eyes. "Not like it's any of your business but a personal piece. My creation." The last two words felt like they had more stress to them. It wasn't something she did often but in times of high emotion, she had been known to to create at home. Something her instructors had mixed feelings about.
"The name isn't there yet but I'm suddenly tempted to call it 'Ode to the Annoying'". It seems fitting.

He looked confused by her comments, shaking his head. Why would he ask someone politely and avoid the most fun part of this whole talking thing? Annoying them. One of his greatest joys in life was seeing how fast he could piss someone off.
And he was getting really good at it.
"I've got no lack of anything," he laughed, "at least not in areas I care about. I can play music too, though I'm not going to pretend I'm amazing just for the sake of looking cool in front of someone."
He grinned at her teasingly, then moved to sit down at the piano.
"Ode to Annoying huh? Gosh, already writing songs about me and we only just met. You can call me your Muse, if you'd like, but I don't do nude sittings. For free, anyway." He played at the keys, practiced enough to play with some skill, though his heart wasn't in it. He played a song from a musical, oddly enough, one of the few things he'd actually spent the time to learn. As Long As You're Mine, from Wicked.

His response sealed her mindset. This man was lacking in something and was hiding it very well from the rest of the world under a layer of cocky. Delilah knew it wasn't one thing: Ego. He seemed to have plenty of that with extra to share.
While she was about to respond to him just hiding the fact he couldn't play to not lose face, he surprised her and took a seat on the bench. Naturally her eyes turned to his hands on the keys leaving her to wonder what a tuned piano could sound like when someone with such manners (lack there of) played it.
"I'll just call you bad luck more than a Muse." Delilah responded as the opening notes caused her to blink. It was something she had never expected. Wicked. A musical she admired but no where near the level some people did. Still, as she listened to him play, Delilah couldn't help but begin to mouth the lyrics. But something was missing and the more he went on, the more she started to notice it.
"You have no love for the music you play." Delilah commented as she cast her eyes onto her face. What did he look like when he played?

Nathan stopped playing, looking at her with a strange look on his face.
Something she said must have hit a cord in him, as it were. He watched her stiffly for a long moment, before he relaxed and leaned back on the stool a bit. There was no back to lean back against but he didn't fall backwards, just sagged a bit and looked at her with his dark, but deep, eyes.
He thought about her wording. He didn't love the music he played? This song was given to him by someone he had very strong feelings for, but it was as complicated a relationship as Elphaba and Fiyero were subjected to. Maybe more so. She was not only seeing someone else, but she was a Dark Mirror Senshi. He didn't know who she was in real life, in this life.
But he was her Fiyero.
"Well what do you suggest I do to make it better, then?" he asked, almost reasonably.

The expression she was met with surprised Delilah. She couldn't hide it fast enough as he looked at her without that cocky grin. In her gut, she felt as if she was being punched for saying something to that affect. But it all passed when his face seemed to regain that smug expression.
Regaining her own composure, Delilah stood and looked back at the keys he had just been playing. What should he do? Not play love songs first off. They didn't suit his harden, egotistical exterior.
"Pick one of them." Delilah responded turning her attention back to him and stepping back. "Elphaba or Fiyero. And pretend you are them." Her body moved to lean over him towards the keys of the piano. Slowly and with a deep breath, Delilah played the same song but as she did so, she put in what she imagined Elphaba to be feeling at that moment: Hope.
Only having played the first few measures, she stopped and looked back at him. "Every song has a story behind it. Make yourself the character if you can't find one and put yourself into the song. It will give more back. And then the people who hear it will typically feel what you are trying to express."

Nathan frowned at her, not much for playing games. Well, not these kinds of games. He did not like to embarrass himself in public, which meant he did not take little risks like this. Opening himself up by trusting other people not to be setting him up for some kind of a trap was asking a lot of him.
It was like saying for someone to close their eyes, and then smashing something in their face. He was always anticipating that random pie.
He listened to her, though, and watched her as she played, wondering if he had not already been putting himself in the song. Maybe that was what the trouble was, because his emotions were so all over the place that he was relating too well to Fiyero. After all, it was not easy to have an affair with someone, even when there were strong feelings involved. And there was a word that he had a tough time wrapping his head around, which made it more difficult to play anything right. Love was scary.
"I guess that makes sense. I'll have to work on it. Right now, I'm not feeling much of anything, besides mildly annoyed. But. Thanks. I guess. For the unwanted advice, that I guess is okay after all." He grunted stubbornly, always finding it hard to be nice to people, though he was at least making a small effort.

Delilah stopped her movements and just glared straight down at him. It took her two breathes to cross her arms in front of her chest speak in a strained toned "You did ask for it."
Once the words were out, Delilah stepped back and shook her head as she turned to walk back to the music she had been looking at. She was not a fan of giving advice or words only to have them coldly thrown into her face as annoying. It didn't strike her that he might really be trying to be nice. After all, he had been mocking her for the past few minutes.
"You are welcome either way. If you let the music speak to you, the story behind it, I am sure you will see your talent improve. But maybe you should try something not so romantic." Delilah turned her ruby eyes back onto him, this time she wore an expression not of annoyance or anger but of playfulness. It was strange for her but she couldn't help it. Maybe in her own mind she was trying to cheer him up because he did seem down.
