Sin settled herself on a blanket gracefully and awaited the match results wondering what sort of demon she'd get to meet. The shock of course was in hearing Mort was her partner! Mort was not only undead, but dating her friend Belladonna so what was HE doing speed dating? Okay, perhaps like herself he was just using 'dating' as a loose term for meeting new people. She waited until he arrived and then smiled and arched a brow.

"Mort, this is an…interesting way to encounter you."

She frowned then suddenly and stood, for a second she remembered the oddity of her dream, the things that seemed a strange distant memory. For a second she felt like dropping into a curtsey, but of course those were reserved for demon balls and elegant estate affairs. She remained seated and looked up at him trying to figure out where that odd sensation had come from. She quickly touched her temple and then shook her head and smiled again.

"Forgive me I…I keep remembering snatches from an odd dream and I let them distract me terribly at the most inopportune moments." She waved a hand dismissively and then relaxed as she propped herself on a flung back arm. "So what are you doing speed dating? You don't seem the type for disloyalty and certainly not to a lovely ghoul like Belladonna."

To be honest, Mort had hoped to meet some of the newbies - Jack knew a small procession of them had been trickling through since that . . . weird dream thing. At least according to Belladonna. Either way, he blinked with surprise when he found himself paired with Sin, whom . . . wait a second. Bells had mentioned -

- Dreams. Yes, he remembered her saying Sin was the one who . . . But it didn't look like the demon was fully aware? Mrrr. "Hullo 'gain, Sin. Is, ah, not s'much for dating as is talking t'people," Mort explained, finding himself bristling at the insinuation where he normally would have just smiled. "Disloyal", bah. Like succubi knew anything about loyalty. Like she could pretend she knew him at all -

He rubbed his head in hopes it eased the whispering within it. They were doing wonders for his personality.

"Heard lot've people been having dreams like that lately," he continued, reigning himself in to something more polite while inwardly chastising himself. "Bells says was part've some big adventure, somethin' really happened. Know bits n' pieces from what she told. What is dreams of, if can ask?"

Sin laughed and looked at Mort uncertainly, oh jack he hadn't taken her seriously? She knew he wouldn't really be looking to two-time Belladonna. She nodded slightly and tried not to be hurt by his tone. Hurt? Since when had her feelings been so easily bruised? And by the opinion of an undead?

She frowned slightly and looked at him worried. "really happened?" She repeated confused, if her strange dream had happened...oh jack.

"I...I dreamed about a pale version of myself, she came and told me about her world and then touched my hand and....and I had all these memories of a place and so much green and life...and...loyalty. She was so jack-damn loyal to her King...I envied it..."

She stopped a bit surprised at herself, at her honesty.

Ah, so she had had some sort of awakening . . . Although mrrrr. That fragment had literally visited her? They could do that? Then why hadn't . . . Mrrrrrrr. Never mind that. Maybe it was all by chance or something, or maybe kings couldn't remember because of how deeply rooted they had been in the other world. What mattered was that Sin remembered, and that he could press her about it.

Mort took a calming breath despite not needing to and nodded. "Yeah, heard 'bout that . . . Bells mentioned was pretty loyal," he said with a little smile. "If remember correctly, had died for me too. Was nice've you." He hoped the king version had provided something more eloquent than that. "Was, ah . . . champion, yes? Remember Bells saying defended me from others, fought a, er . . . Julian, right?" Did she know that name perchance?

She looked at him and frowned trying to connect the strange dreamy memory with Mort. Odd, that fragment had felt such loyalty to Mort, to her King and her land. Sin felt Mort was...Bella's boilfriend, but she had never really felt anything like loyalty for him and she wouldn't have called him a friend outright either. Yet now she looked at him and remembered the way he treated others, when they had been in the Valentines World...he was good...and he would be a good friend. An undead for a friend? Well...Christof was undead and she considered him a friend of sorts. She pushed back an errant strand of hair and bit her lip, what a strange mess of thoughts.

"Yeah...well...I didn't die for you. You don't need to tha-Julian?" She'd fought Julian? No...no not her, just a strange little piece of her. Yet why would she ever fight against Julian to protect Mort? Julian was one of her best friends!

"She...she...that's not really me Mort, I'm not that loyal. I look out for myself first and then sometimes I get lucky and manage to help my friends." She sighed and looked down.

"And?" He folded his hands in his lap and ignored how the whispers dredged up thoughts like I told you so, I SO told you, demons can't be trusted, who can be - "King wasn't really me either. None've fragments were really us," he said, then continued with a little smile, "but doesn't mean also wasn't part. Fragment is just piece've bigger thing, yes?"

Big things. All things fall apart. The center cannot hold -

Mort rubbed his head a bit more insistently, wincing through his smile. "If want t'believe wasn't you, is fine. But part've you helped part've me - like t'believe means real you has same c-capable-ty. If can't believe in self, who can believe in?" To die for someone else was a strong enough loyalty that Mort couldn't simply shrug it off as just part of the other world. It had to mean something.

If things didn't have meaning, after all, then what point was there?

"Sometimes a part is so tiny it's too weak to survive past the other parts. Maybe I would help you, maybe because Belladonna is such a good friend that if I saw you in danger I'd try and…but it's all just hypothetical right? A dream is just a dream." She took a shaky breath and tried not to feel that dream brush her so close, so much more like memories.

She felt for a second the stabbing pains, the odd floating sensation of lifeblood running out so different and yet so alike to FEAR. She felt the surge of energy as she tried to her last to heal her King, heal Mort, save Om…save…Om.

"I don't want to believe that…if I believe that then it means that while I am capable of sacrificing myself for those dear to me, they could easily come to betray me. They all did after all, in the end it was only you and I!" She jerked and closed her mouth her lips pressed into a tight angry line, no it was just a dream.

Those were truths, yes, ugly little facts viewed from one perspective he did not want to entertain, no matter how nebulous his mind at this time. He pressed his stitched mouth into a thin line as he pondered his response. "If don't remember, was to save us from said dream," he replied after a moment, then gave a very dry smile. "M'sad to say friends killing me 'cuz m'out've mind or s-somethin' is . . . almost norm now." The Haunted House, that middle-aether world underneath, and now this dream. And he knew, in the future, if he could find nothing to help him soon that tally would rise . . .

"But always was for good. Saving someone. Stopping killing. Waking us. N' m'grateful for that. I-If want t'believe friends will betray in end, can't tell you y'can't; don't know who you hang with. But from own 'sperience, can say if friends're willing t'do anything to bring real you back, then is true friends indeed. Nothing is black n' white no more, Sin," he told the succubus, his smile fading quickly into a more morose expression. "People're grays, morals can be grays too. Would rather keep living dream, or would rather make difference in reality? Would rather have f-fake friends or friends that care t'help? Would rather y'can d-do something, or can't 'cause have no belief?" Maybe there was something of the loquacious king in the zomboil after all.

Sin frowned and crossed her arms trying to slice away her emotions and be as cool and composed as she had been brought up to be. What had happened to the ghoul she had once been? A succubus looking for alliances first with no thought for friendships, what happened? She was going soft and if she wasn't careful she'd end up some a pathetic society sweetling instead of a true succubus capable of changing the currents of demon society. She would lose the influence of the Err name, she would lose it all if she kept allowing herself to be so sentimental.

"The norm? You might be accepting, but no one, friend or not, should ever try and backstab me. What next? What if someone came and told them that we were the fakes? What if someone told us that this world was just a fragment of another? No…I don't accept that betrayal should be the norm, or one of these days we'll end up completely wiped out for being complacent."

She forced a smile, forced her voice into the tone she used to keep emotion from showing. This was her mask, and she had been allowing it to slip too often. She stood gracefully and brushed her dress off though it still looked immaculate.

"It's been a pleasure Mort, but I do believe our time is up. Please pass my warmest regards to Belladonna."

The reaper witch, a friend, no she had to stop collecting friendships with such ease, Belladonna was an alliance. Mort could be an ally as well, a dim echo of loyalty to him remained, if he was in danger and she could help…well he'd best stay out of danger.
