With the loss of Agave, Pirata had gone in search of another suitable heir. This time she had kept things a secret - sequestering herself away once the signs of pregnancy were apparent and allowing only a couple well trusted guards to convey her orders to the rest of the herd. The foal had been born and placed into its basket without issue and Pirata had hidden it deep within one of the her spiders webs before returning to normal herd life. The mare had offered no reason to her underlings for her aloofness..they were but minions and she had no need to explain herself to them.
It was the spiders that finally alerted her to the baskets stirring and Pirata had gone to retrieve it before their excited scurrying turned into excited biting once the foal emerged. A filly this time and not a disappointment as far as her features were concerned. Her personality of course was still up in the air and so she wasn't going to place any sort of hope for the fillies future on the newborn just yet. She had let the filly grow for a while but now she was old enough to bring into the herd and Pirata decided that Cassava would be the first the filly met - they were close in age and so would be training partners despite the vast difference in size.
"Come along Syphax..I have someone I wish you to meet." She ordered the filly, setting a brisk pace along the path to Cassava's home. Syphax was not entirely impressed with life so far, oh sure the mountain was nice enough..cold but imposing and grand at the same time..but it was hideously boring the way her mother insisted she keep herself hidden away. She had nothing but the spiders to play with and they were not always the best playmates...even if it was fun to chase things into their webs and watched them get all trussed up. Even such an amusing activity as that got dull after a while.
But today was going to be different apparently and her ears pricked upwards in anticipation as her mother told her that there was someone she wanted her to met. She was going to met someone! Did this mean the end to her hidden life was in sight? Would she be able to follow her mother around and watch as the mare ran her empire? It would be so much fun...perhaps she would be allowed to order others about in the same manner that her mother was always ordering the guards around. In any case she didn't give any complaints as she was rushed along the pathway, trotting briskly to keep up with her mothers longer strides.

Tucked away in his little cave Cassava was up and full of energy today. His tail growled at him as he took a bit too long to stretch after rising and he let out a growl in return. The day was only just beginning but Cassava was ready to start. He came trotting out of his little home and let his eyes sweep over the bones that were littered about. Recently he had grown more and more obsessed with these pieces of dead animals and would go out of his way to gather what he could as long as Pirata didn't need him around. She came first of course, if she wanted him to do something then the bones would wait. But they were always on the back of his mind. He had one thing on his mind today as he waited for either a guard or Pirata to come fetch him, and that was to move more bones into the cave he called home. He enjoyed being surrounded by them to sleep but there wasn't enough in there just yet.
Stopping at a pile that consisted of smaller bones that he could easily manage himself Cassava scooped up two in his mouth and then turned around, waiting for the head on his tail to grab one as well before retreating into his cave. As he came out his eyes landed upon a large ribcage that either came from a Soquili or something like a deer. That would make the perfect little shelter for him to curl up and sleep in within his cave. Trotting over to the rib cage Cassava eyed it intently. The bones were much bigger than him and certainly weighed quite a bit but that didn't even register in Cassava's mind. He wanted that in hi cave and it woudl happen. Wrapping his teeth around the nearest rib he gave a tug and let out a growl as the bones remained where they were. He pulled harder, his growl growing louder as with each tug he came no closer to moving the bones. His tail rgowled too, to alert him of Pirata's approach but he was so focused and angry at these ribs that he didn't pay it any attention.

Pirata was not surprised when she came around the corner to find Cassava messing with the bones again - it seemed to be an obsession that was quickly developing...but at least it was one that served a purpose as his strange little hoarding kept the place nice and tidy and as long as it didn't interfere with his duties she honestly could care less. She had more important things on her mind then the strange activities of the Usdia foal.
"Cassava." She called out as she drew closer "That is far to large for you to pull alone, make a guard do it and come over here." She stated with a slight sigh - the usdia was not always the brightest but she was always trying to instill in him a sense of superiority anyways. If he was to be her pet then he was going to have to get used to being above others in this world and ordering them to do things for you ought to be second nature.
Syphax eyed the strange foal before her as he tugged on a bone - he was so..small. I mean sure she was small herself when compared to her mother but this foal was just downright puny. He must have some sort of influence however as her mother was telling to him to get the guards to do thing for him - and no one was allowed to do that except for higher ranking members of the herd. It was a puzzling situation to be sure and one that her young mind was still grasping to figure out.
"Who is he mother? Where did he come from?" She questioned after a few moments, deciding that even annoying her mother for a few moments was worthwhile if she got an answer out of it. Moving off from behind her mother she trotted towards the other foal a few strides. "He has a funny looking tail." She stated as she eyed the skull coming off the end of it...she could have sworn that it was looking back at her but that was just to weird so she decided she must be imagining that particular trait.

Cassava's ears laid back on his skill for a moment when he heard Pirata's voice. He gave a final tug on the rib cage and let out a growl before turning to face her. "Okay." Was all he said as he took a few steps towards her, but he would make a guard move it for he really wanted that one in his cave. Before he could do or say anything else he heard another voice, this one smaller than Pirata's and then saw the filly. More surprising than the sudden appearance of another foal was that this one called Pirata mother. Cassava's head slowly tipped to the side as regarded the other foal with curiosity. "Where that come from?" He asked, knowing that not only Pirata would likely correct his poor seech but that she might not be too keen on her foal being called 'that'.
His tail whipped around so that the head faced the filled and it let out a growl, though it was a non-threatening one. The tail could after all only make one sound and that was a growl so that may have been as much as a greeting to the other foal as it was anything else. Cassava's eyes roamed over to Pirata looking at the spiders on her back to see what they would do in regards to the other foal standing there. Did they like it? If so then he would like it. Though since this was Pirata's foal he liked her already

"Where did that come from" Pirata corrected the colt almost offhandedly, though she wasn't entirely sure why she bothered. The colt had proven several times already that he wasn't the brightest beast on the mountain. But no matter...he listened and he was unusual so she was willing to keep him around. Now that her own basket had hatched she even rather hoped he would become somewhat useful."And She is a she, not a that." She further corrected. The mare did not feel like answering where the filly had come from - the colt was far to young for such discussions even if she was and so she just ignored that part of his inquiry.
"Her name is Syphax Noctis and you are to be her training partner, confidant..companion.She is my daughter and you are to listen to her as you would me" She told the colt firmly quite sure that Cassava wouldn't not argue the order. The little colt rarely if ever argued with anything she said...he was quite the obedient pet really. Skittering about on the ground Pirata's spiders paused only to raise their legs menacingly at the tail when it growled before determining that it wasn't really a threat and continuing on with their. one of them skittered across the fillies back, using her as a platform to reach Pirata.
"Syhax." She stated turning her attention to the filly. "This is Cassava.." She stated the colts name, letting her words trail off before adding the last bit and watching her daughter for a reaction. "Noctis."
Syphax narrowed her eyes slightly at the colts words - however before she could say anything else about it her mother had already corrected him. Standing proudly she looked at the colt. Wait a minute had her mother just stated the colt had the family name? Was he a ..brother? Impossible..and yet her mother had given him the name. Syphax eyed the colt with a more critical and wary look on her face. Competition perhaps?
Well..her mother had ordered the colt to obey her and so Syphax decided he couldn't be to much competition right now. Still she would keep an eye on him for a while just in case. "Cassava then...Does his tail have a name?" She asked primly though there was a glint in her eye that told she was trying to gauge the colts temper by egging him on. He really was a strange little colt but by the standards she had seen among the few guards that had kept watch over her in secrecy she nad her mother were quite strange as well.

Cassava waited and listened closely to Pirata correct him. He wanted her to be happy with him and so if he could say those thing correctly he knew she would be more approving of him. And Pirata's approval meant the world to him...that and bones. So when Pirata had finished correcting him he made an effort to say it again, but correctly. "Where did she come from?" The sentence was a bit drawn out as he concentrated carefully on saying the proper words and saying them correctly and then he looked to Pirata once more for approval.
As Pirata moved on to introduce the filly Cassava's head tipped to the side. She was a Noctis too? He wasn't quite sure what daughter meant, nor did he know for sure what companion and confidant was, but the words training partner made it through his confusion and he perked up at that. He hadn't quite done much training yet, but what he had done he had really liked, especially when Pirata nodded her approval of his efforts. He gave his head a nod in agreement. "Cassava be training partner...and those other things." Then his gaze swiveled to the filly and he got a blank expression on his face as he thought about her question. Does his tail have a name? His blank look slowly moved from Syphax to Pirata and then to his tail. He didn't think it had a tail but since Syphax had asked he felt it was important to name it. But what does one name a tail? After a moment of thought he turned his gaze back to the filly and proudly announced. "Tail Noctis."

Pirata nodded her approval of the colts correction but sighed slightly when he turned around and uttered another broken sentence right afterwards. Oh well..one couldn't expect to change the world with a single word now could they. Eventually, as he grew, she was sure he would become better at such things. And she certainly couldn't fault his logic when when named his tail..even if it was horribly unimaginative.
Well..she wasn't keeping him around for his brains or his imagination. "Very well then, the tail is..Tail Noctis." She allowed before turning her attention back to the two foals. Syphax seemed a bit disconcerted that the little Usdia colt shared their name..but that was by design. A bit of healthy competition to fuel her along would help ensure that she did not turn out like her failure of an older brother. Her attempt to warp Agave had failed..so she would try a different track this time around. She-ra would probably throw a fit but Pirata wasn't overly worried about that for the time being.
"Now, the two of you will stay here from now on. You will both attend lessons from the warriors in the herd as well as accompany me on forays about our lands so that you might become familiar with them." She told the two in all seriousness. Almost as soon as the words left her mouth her spiders drummed their feet and her ears caught the sound of approaching hoofbeats. On the hard rocky ground the sound was almost like..well an ironish sound striking other iron with a hollow echo. "Ah that must be the guard to watch over you this afternoon. You two will be spending a great deal of time together so I suggest you get to know one another."
Syphax merely blinked as the colt decided to name his tail..tail. But her mother allowed it and so while she thought it utterly absurd she didn't raise any objections about it. Maybe she would offer a few suggestions to the colt when her mother wasn't around to over hear. That might be fun...he seemed like a somewhat gullible colt. Perhaps she could convince him to name his tail Skullbutt or something.
Surely that would put to rest any sort of threat he might pose for her future. No one would follow someone with a tail that was named right? Especially one that was named Skullbutt. "As you wish mother..I'm sure we will have an exciting time together..won't we Cassave?" She told the colt in a sickly sweet voice before turning her head to beam up at her mother. Of course she wasn't entirely pleased with being told she would be staying here now..but it was a great deal larger then her previous dwelling and in a far more active location so perhaps it would prove exciting. And was that a cave over there? She would have to go and check that out...

Cassava beamed a smile, his tongue lolling out of his mouth as Pirata nodded her approval of not only his corrected sentence but of his tails name as well. It never occurred to him to flash a smug smile to the filly in that moment of triumph. He didn't see her as a threat in any way nor did he even think that they may one day vie for Pirata's attention. He was just happy that his master was pleased and if his slow interpretation of Pirata's words were right then Syphax was also to be his master. Wasn't he the luckiest Soquili ever?! He didn't have one master but two! Today was a good day. And he even got to name his tail himself.
His smile faded for the smallest moment as he heard Pirata say that Syphax would now be staying here with him, that they were to share his home on top of training together. He didn't mind the idea of training together, it sounded like fun, but sharing his home made him almost whine. What if she touched his bones? But he couldn't wouldn't say anything about that, they were his masters and he obeyed without question. Cassava looked from Pirata to Syphax and then back to Pirata and nodded his head. Cassava and Syphax stay here, take lessons and..." His eyes drifted to Syphax for a second trying to remember what she had just said. "...have an exciting time together." He repeated those words slowly and carefully, then drummed his front legs on the ground the way that Pirata's spiders often did.

With the warrior coming along to keep watch on the two foals and her own things to attend to - not the least of which was to reveal the existence of Syphax to the rest of her legions, or at least the ones who needed to know such things- Pirata simply did not have the time, or truly the desire to stand around and ensure the two foals got acquainted. That was a fine job for the lesser warrior to see to as far as she was concerned.
"See that you do." She told the two foals with a brief look over the two of them before she turned away to address the warrior "And you..ensure that they do not injure themselves to terribly. They are important." She warned, giving the stallion a serious look before making her way down the path and leaving the foals and their guards to their own devices.
"Of course mother." Syphax agreed easily enough, keeping a complacent look on her face as her mother walked off. The filly waited until the sound of her mothers hoofbeats were well gone before she turned to regard her newest companion with a slight twitch of her tail. "Well you might as well show me around or something." She told the colt. Sure she could see most of the area from where she stood but if the colt had been here for a while then he would probably know all the little secret places...and when you lived on a mountain there were a lot of little secret places.
Then again the colt didn't seem like the brightest of sorts..so perhaps he hadn't explored much at all. At least he kept the place relatively clean...the bones all seemed to be in curious piles. Strange really...and with that thought in mind Syphax found herself wandering closer to one of the piles in order to investigate it further.

His head gave a slow nod as Pirata gave her instructions first to him and Syphax and then to the guard. "Yes Pirata." He said as the mare began to walk away leavinh him alone with the guard and Syphax. Cassava eyed the guard for a moment remembering Pirata's words about getting someone else to move that ribcage for him. Well the guard had to listen to him in Pirata's absence so a plan began to form in his mind on how he would get the guard to move not only the ribcage but a few of the other larger bones he had been struggling with. Syphax's voice filtered into those thoughts and he turned to look at her. He went to reply to her, to tell her that he would show her around since this was his home and he knew just about every inch of it around the cave and could tell her where each and every bone had come, but then he stopped. She was going towards his bones!
A whine escaped him before h could stop it and then he raced forward putting himself between her and the piles of bones. His tail had caught onto his panic and turned to face Syphax letting out a growl. "My bones! Pirata let's me have them!" Part of him knew he shouldn't be yelling at her, for she was a tiny Pirata, but these were his bones and they were all he had! He had to fight to keep himself from snarling at her and for a moment he wondered if he should get the guard to help with protecting the piles or not. No these were his bones and he had to protect them himself.

Syphax drew back suddenly as the colt turned on her, a look of surprise briefly crossed her features as she eyed him for a few moments. He was small yes..but also older and that tail with the way it growled gave her a bit of pause. Syphax had no actual training yet and to be honest she certainly didn't want to get beaten up by her mothers little..creature.
Of course she didn't want to seem like a coward either and so after only the briefest looks towards the guard..who seemed to be regarding them with passive amusement Syphax turned her attention back to the colt and drew herself up proudly. "That is no way to speak to me!" She told the colt firmly. "I was only going to look at them." She finished and then with a slight huff flounced off as though she wasn't really interested in them anyways. Whatever..she would go and look at that cave instead. It was almost certainly more interesting then the moldy old pile of bone that he seemed so possessive about.

Cassava stood firm under her raised voice. Part of him wanted to back off, this was after all Pirata's daughter and the only one he ever listened to was Pirata, but they were both Noctis' even if he didn't share any blood with them and so they were equals in a way. Plus these were his bones! No one could touch the bones unless he let them. He was so relieved that she had abandoned inspecting the pile of bones. They were his, really they were all he had outside of Pirata's presence, so he couldn't help be a bit overprotective of them. Of course his relief quickly turned to new horror as he watched Syphax make her way towards the cave. But that was his home! He had lived there since he had come out of that uncomfortable basket thing. Plus he kept sme of his favorite bones there!
He knew he would be yelled at again, but it didn't matter so much to him, Cassava just couldn't stand the thought of her touching his bones in there. Forced to leave the pile out her unguarded Cassava took off quickly and managed to slip in front of Syphax just before she reached the cave's entrance. His small hooves clicked and echoed inside the cave as he scrambled towards a more spread out pile of bones that lay in the back corner of the cave. These were his most prized possessions and also where he slept. Quickly he began nosing them closer together, pausing to glance at Syphax now and then. Surely she would understand what he was doing. Not to mention the filly was a lot bigger than he was so she would take up a lot more space in the cave that he did. Cassava busied himself with pushing the bones closer to a rib cage that stood in near the corner, similar to the one he had been pulling on outside but smaller. When he was certain that all his special bones were piled up and out of of Syphax's ways he looked towards her again. "This where Cassava sleep." He told her and then showed her just what he meant by crawling inside the ribcage, which was getting a bit small for him, and laid down.

Syphax gave a slightly annoyed growl when the colt suddenly appeared and pushed himself in front of her to scramble into the cave. He was a pesky little thing and she aimed a quick strike at him with her foreleg as he passed. Sadly her timing was a bit off - he was small but that just made him fast she was coming to realize. How utterly annoying!
Rolling her eyes and snorting slightly she ignored him as he started shoving more of his precious bones together - she really didn't get the bone thing, I mean..gross much? But whatever she was fine with letting him have them and turned her attention to inspecting the cave walls which were damp and cool. The walls sparked in some places when the light from the entrance hit it and Syphax found that kind of pretty but over all it was just a cave. Dull..damp and boring.
Turning around to see what the colt was doing she gaped at him when he started to crawl into a ribcage. "You sleep in the bones? What are you going to do when you get bigger?" Surely he would get bigger right? She could already tell that he was outgrowing the bones he was in. "Doesn't it smell?"

Cassava watched her with a careful eye and though he had only gathered up his favorite bones there were still quite a few strewn about the cave. He had been worried she might try to take them away from him, but in the end seemed completely uninterested. Well at least his collection was safe but he would feel much better once he had gathered up all the others and put them into piles on his side of the cave. But that didn't matter at this very moment. His ears perked forward when she finally spoke. His eyes looked at the rib cage that surrounded him and then back at her. "Yes, sleep in bones. Bones are special. Bones are mine. Pirata let me have all the bones I want." Before answering her second question he paused to wiggle his way out of the rib cage, it was getting to be a tighter fit so he would need to replace it soon.
"Bring bigger bones in." He said as he walked to the entrance of the cave and looked at the much larger rib cage that he had been trying to pull in earlier. "Sleep in that one soon, just need to get it in cave." He eyes moved to the guard that was standing watching over the two foals, soon he would ask him to move it for him. Slowly he turned his attention back to Syphax. "Smell?" He didn't understand what she was talking about. He stood there sniffing the air but all he could smell were the bones, the dirt and each other. Dropping down into a sitting position Cassave raised his left back leg and tipping his head back scratched at his ear much like a wolf would. "Only smell bones." He told her as he got up and gave his small body a shake.

Well goody for you Syphax thought to herself as the colt stated that her mother let him have all the bones he wanted. It was hardly something she would want - but it seemed that he was quite proud of them. In any case it gave her something to work with later on..if she ever thought he was getting out of hand or not listening she could just threaten to break on of his precious bones, She bet he would listen to her then!
"Yes precisely..Bones kind of smell, or at least they do when they are new." Thankfully the ones in the cave all seemed quite old and well picked over, she suspected that was due to her mothers spiders. "You should probably move the old ribcage out before you move the new one in." She suggested after a few moments thought. The cave wasn't all that big to be honest and if she was going to share it with him she didn't want half of it taken up with the colts old beds. "You'll have more room that way." She encouraged him to take her suggestion.
