 Trenton ran as fast as he could with Dorothy clinging to him. The farther they got away from Melrose, the better. He could see the barn from the distance, devoured by the clearly overgrown cornstalks. It looked as if no one had touched the land in quite a while, and as unnerving as it may be, Trenton needed something to hide Dorothy. He helped her over the low wooden gate and dragged her into the depths of the field until even he couldn't see where they were going. "This should be good enough." he breathed, out of breath from the longest run he had with his fresh legs. He looked around and narrowed his eyes. Something about this field... Something made him cautious. Call it paranoia, but he felt unnerved.

Dorothy gasped when he stopped, resting her head on his arm and closing her eyes as she caught her breath. "G-good enough? It better be good enough, because I'm not running again!" When she was finally breathing normally, Dorothy stood up straight, her hand on his chest keeping her steady. "Alright, we good now?"

"I... think so." Trenton murmured, ignoring the flutters in his stomach from where her hands were. He looked back and forth, side to side. "I can't see anything past this damn corn." he growled under his breath and swatted at a few nearby stalks.

She grabbed his hand, setting it on his chest. "Stop that! That isn't going to help us at all." With her own hands now on her hips, Dorothy looked around, then seemed to have an idea. "Lift me up so I can look around and see where we are."

Trenton opened his mouth to protest, but no matter how much he reasoned, he knew she had a point. Closing his mouth with an angry flatten of his ears, the inu finally agreed and got down. Without waiting for Dorothy, Trenton poked his head from between her legs and stood back up; he kept his hands on her legs to keep her from falling. "See anything?" he grunted as he straightened up, trying to keep his eyes anywhere but up.

"Oh!" Dorothy hadn't been expecting him to actually lift her, but it was far too late to protest. Digging her hands into his silky white hair, she looked around for a moment, then grinned and pointed.
"That way! There's the yellow brick road!" she told him, her fingers now playing with his ears.

"Good, now you can - GAH!" Trenton yelped and glared up at her when he felt his ears being fidgeted with. Bad move. Seeing up her skirt, the inu's face became a rising thermometer and he quickly averted his gaze. Her messing with his sensitive ears didn't help. "S-Stop playing with my - Ah! - ears!"

Dorothy hadn't noticed him looking up her skirt, too focused on his squirming. She tilted her head, confused. "But you love it when I play with your ears!" she protested, her fingers rubbing in small circles and her pinkies brushing the soft tips the way she knew made his white tail wag. "Beaides, you know it helps me think. And right now, I have to think!"

Pure T0rture does a scarecrow need to wait for? "N-No, I didn't! Ggggrh!! Stop it!" Trenton protested and squirmed even more as he tried to keep his tail from wagging, but in his attempt to stop it, he only made it worse and got his tail to wag even more. "G-Get off me!" he whined, trying to twitch his ears out of her grasp. "You already - Nngh! - saw the road, so let's go."

Pure T0rture That's why she's creating a map "Yes, but we can't just walk to the road. There are boulders all throughout the field!" she said, scratching just behind his ear with one hand and continuing to rub with the other. "Now hush. I'm trying to map out a route and your wiggling is making it very hard to see the mental map."

 With a giggle, a shadow ran through the fields, watching the couple closely. "Oh, how cute," it whispered to itself, licking its lips. "A puppy and his kitty. Wouldn't we just love to sink our teeth into such pretty white skin!" It tried to stay quiet, keeping the chase a game. "Oh yes, we want such pretty skin for our collection...such pretty, splattered skin~"

His ear twitching at the sound of a giggle, Trenton immediately stopped fussing over Dorothy's fidgeting and looked over his shoulder. The corn stalks were tall, taller then him and barely reaching up to the girl on his shoulders, therefore he couldn't see anything, and that plus the giggle made him uneasy. The inu narrowed his eyes warily then slowly turned back forward and glanced up, ignoring the skirt. "Find a road, quick." he told her in a serious tone. "I've got a bad feeling..."

"Don't be such a fraidy cat," she said, planning out a route already, only to freeze at the sound of a crazed laugh that was echoing all around them."Oh, I get it! Because he's a puppy, and you're the kitty! What a funny joke! We like your joke!" said a man with many-colored hair as he stalked around them, walking in a circle.Dorothy immediately scrambled off of his shoulders, landing beside her Toto and gripping his arm. "Wh-what the hell was that?!"

Trenton's tail wagged low and his nose wrinkled in a low snarl. "I don't know," he growled quietly while trying to pinpoint where the voice was coming from, though his twitching ears couldn't figure it out. "but that laugh sounds familiar."
