Camelot was not sure what to do. He had been powered up for an hour already, and that lingering sense of anxiety remained. What was it that was making him so tense? He did not yet realize that it had occurred to him only when he called his weapon, attributing his feeling of foreboding to the idea of patrol.

It was like that feeling he got when he walked into work, and he knew something bad had happened or was going to happen. Except usually when he got that spine crawling feeling the bad thing made itself known soon enough. ala a mountain of paperwork on his desk, a ringing phone with an angry patron, or a Dogby accident to clean.

Usual things that he did not look forward to dealing with, and always felt a little lucky if he got through a day without.

In any case, this feeling of anxiety was not his favorite way to patrol, and he kept glancing over his shoulder and making sure that there were no huge auras suddenly bursting out around him. Of course, if that happened, he doubted glancing over his shoulder would stop it. Maybe he was just being a little paranoid and over thinking things.

He did feel an aura, but it was a familiar, order aligned one. Relieved, he moved toward the source, hoping it was a familiar face he might talk to and get his mind off of his anxiety.

Aventine had been struggling to make ends of things all night. Powering up had been easier now than before, given that she wasn't as sore from her last youma run in, but immediately after she summoned her weapon, she regretted it.

It felt like someone was breathing down her neck, and she'd had a fleeting fear that some Negaverse creep had seen her transform. She wasn't sure whether to be thankful or not when she spun and saw no one. She'd tried to shake the feeling, but it clung to her; every few minutes she had a new layer of goosebumps popping up. She was so distracted by the strange feeling that she hardly even noticed the aura of a knight until she was half a foot from walking into him.

She was looking at the ground, rubbing at her arm and looked up just barely in time to stop herself from running into the man. "Oh! Camelot! Jeez," she huffed, seeming relieved. "I'm glad I ran into you tonight. You're stronger than me—is there someone following me or something? Or is it just so cold tonight? Seriously freaking me out, I was kinda thinking about going home early and calling it quits for tonight…"

Camelot nearly leaped out of his skin. He had managed to get himself distracted enough in his pursuit of her energy signature that he hadn't actually been looking out for her anywhere other than directly in front of him. His head was elsewhere, clearly, as hers was.

It was hard to focus, with that anxiety hanging in the air like a heavy cloud.

"Aventine," he breathed out in relief, shaking his head slowly. "I was just looking for you. Well. Your energy signature. I felt it, and ah. Well, anyway, ah..."

He tilted his head and looked around, looking for any other auras in the area. He did not feeling anything chaotic. No, the feeling her had with him right now, it was not an aura. It was strange and disconcerting and he had no idea what it was, but he knew it wasn't an aura.

"No, no one is following you. So you feel that too? I mean, that... tension... in the air? I felt it as soon as I powered up, like something is wrong, or is going to go wrong, and I don't know what it is. Ah... it's hard to put into words, but it's freaking me out, a little bit, too." He smiled thinly, though he did kind of mean it.

For as uncomfortable to make her to know that Camelot felt it too, she at least managed to sigh a breath of relief. That meant it wasn't just her, and that meant that maybe someone knew what was going on. "You? It's freaking you out?" she prompted, forcing a smile. Well hell, how did that mean she was supposed to feel about it? "…So, like, this isn't normal for knights? You don't just randomly get weird tingly sensations?"

She shifted positions, looking at her perfume bottle, wondering if she should just go home and try to ignore all this. "Is there some way to shut it off? Or figure out what's going to happen? I mean…you know I'm new to all this…typically powering up is just like—well, you know. Has this sort of thing…you know, happened? Before?"

But more importantly—was it going to go away? She wasn't sure she could do her patrols if this kept up. She couldn't focus, felt uncomfortable—how was she supposed to go out there and save people like that?

Camelot smiled sheepishly, nodding his head. He got freaked out sometimes, too, but that wasn't a bad thing, really. He chuckled and took a breath, as he was wont to do now, because it helped relieve the anxiety a little bit. If only for a moment.

"No, I've never had something like this happen before. And I've been around for a while now. I'm afraid I don't know how to follow up on it, either. I'm hoping it might just go away without issue, but knowing Destiny City as I do... I don't think that will be the case."

Whenever strange things began to happen, they were usually followed by even more strange, and often dangerous, things.

He did offer her a reassuring smile.

"Whatever is going on, I'm sure we can handle it. We've been called on before, and we've always come through."

Aventine slowly nodded, trying to force herself to feel comfortable after such an admission. "Well…I guess I'll try to remain optimistic and on guard for whatever's…calling on us."

It was somewhat worrisome; up until now, Aventine had had very few things to worry about and focus on. Her routine was typical—take a route, stay out for an hour or so a night, hunt youma, chase away Dark Mirror Senshi, do some sparring—the usual things she had gotten used to doing. She wasn't quite sure what else there could be. Sure, she'd heard some magically fantastic tales from people who had been around for longer than her, but in the grand scheme of things, she didn't quite have the imagination to try and deduce who or what was calling on them.

Hopefully, Camelot either had that imagination or enough experience to guide her through it. "So…what does call on us? I mean, like…if that's not a totally dumb question," she added, rubbing at the back of her neck awkwardly.

That question gave him a moment of pause as he turned it over in his head. He had been asked a few times before about purpose and direction, and he'd given a lot of thought to where their powers came from and why they were chosen, but there was no real. direct answer for it. Nothing that was simple to sum up.

But that made sense, because there was really nothing simple about the war, no matter how familiar he was with it now, or how he had managed to justify and classify things in his own heads. It was different for everyone, who had different experiences to guide them, from the moment people woke up.

He smiled at her thoughtfully.

"Well. I'm not sure, exactly. And I don't think it's the same, every time. There are forces more powerful than us, that have been in this battle between Order and Chaos for eternities. I feel like our powers are drawn from history, and some of its lingering remnants are sometimes... still out there. The dream world we were all pulled into, or when we had to go to that sanctuary in space. The moon base, and our home planets and Wonders. I think there are endless possibilities out there, and I'm not sure we can anticipate everything we'll be called to do, or what is calling us."

That was a pretty long winded way to say he didn't know.

While Aventine wouldn’t have called his response long winded, she seemed to take every word to heart. Camelot, for all she knew, was a veteran of the war, and one worth listening to. His response was so well worded that she wouldn't have guessed he didn't know what was going on because it sounded like he knew what was going on—and that was enough to reassure her.

"I haven't been to my wonder yet," she said, hands gliding over the smooth perfume bottle she held in her hand. "Or to any other planets, or the moon…"

But if they could get there…it gave her an idea of how many possibilities there were for this situation. "…I don't want to think that there's any force out there that's stronger than us. I mean, we're the good guys, right? So why can't we just be the stronger, take care of all the bad guys, and then go back to living our normal lives?"

"I think that is what everyone would like," he said, with an easy smile, "but it's a little more complicated than that in application. All we can do is try to get stronger, individually and as teams, as a faction. And try as hard as we can to spread the idea of peace."

He was hoping that through purification they would be able to even the odds, or perhaps end the war the way he had always hoped to end it: peacefully and without either side having to eradicate the other.

The way they were going now, though, it didn't seem all that possible.

But they had to keep on trying.

"You should visit your wonder," he offered, trying to lighten the conversation a bit. "It might teach you about yourself and your past, or it might just be an interesting trip."

"Visit my wonder?" the page asked, laughing somewhat awkwardly. "Well, ah…yeah, I suppose I could do that." In concept, it seemed interesting…but from her experience with Troy, she wasn't sure she was ready to have some ancestor chewing her out for everything. Trying to get stronger, both by herself and by working with other people, seemed like a far easier task. Friendlier, too.

She wasn't sure what sort of thing wonders could teach, but if Camelot was suggesting it, she figured it couldn’t be all bad. She was just going to have to give herself a little extra prep time in case her ancestor was as hard on her as Troy's was on him.

"Any, ah…tips for heading back there? What's…you know, what's Camelot like?"

"Camelot is... very quiet. I'm afraid I haven't had much luck there. But it is vast and beautiful, and perhaps I just haven't found the right place yet."

He hadn't gone into the castle ruins yet, nor had he really explored the old houses. He'd been into a forest, gone over to neighboring Wonders, Shalott and Avalon, and felt connected to the lands and his home here on Earth.

But as far as memories or run ins with Ancestors, he had not experienced anything just yet. It wasn't surprising, he found he was always late to the game. Just look at how long it had taken him to just wake up and join the fight. One of the oldest fighters out there, and not in an experience way.

Just age.

"But I'll continue to explore it. I should make more time for it, myself. Especially now that I'd like to have some answers. I should take my own advice sometimes." He laughed.

Aventine couldn't help but grin; Camelot's laugh had been reassuring. Her fingers were laced before her and she was twirling her thumbs around each other as she tried to imagine what Camelot must look like. It was easy; she just imagined all the fairytale scenes she'd seen in movies. Aventine had since taken on a similar image, though she shook her head; she hadn't the faintest idea what to expect of her wonder.

Camelot had made it to his, though…and sooner or later, she was going to have to buck up and check hers out. "Is it neat? Like Indiana Jones?" she prompted, trying to hide her eagerness and lust for adventure. Troy's wonder had seemed rather plain—stables? She could go to a barn for that—but a new world entirely? One to legitimately explore?

Suddenly an ornery old ghost didn't seem like it was going to be enough to keep her away.

Camelot smiled and nodded his head.

"Almost, really! I'm sure there are very interesting and possibly dangerous places to explore... actually, all this talk is really making me want to go back there. Take a good look around, for once, instead of just... ah..."

Well, most of the times he had been there was as a taxi service. He had been able to to go two nearby wonders, but his own was vast and he had not thoroughly explored it. Hell, he hadn't even been to the castle yet.

"I'll take you there, then, and we can explore it, if you want. And when you learn how to return to your wonder, I would love to see it. It's a personal experience, and I think the first time should be private. Uh. Visiting your wonder, I mean. That... yes, well. You understand."

He laughed at himself, feeling better despite his shield and the strange circumstances, just thinking about the fun he might have exploring his wonder. It made him feel a bit childish, but then, maybe he needed more adventure for the sake of it in his life.

The offer alone made Aventine's eyes sparkle. "That would be amazing! You have no idea how excited I am—I talked to a girl, and she said she could get me to see a moon, so I'm really looking forward to that. It's kinda scary, but I'm sure she knows what she's doing." She waved her hand nonchalantly and then continued, "If you're offering a trip to Camelot sometime, you know I'd be dying to go—and as soon as I get to mine and figure things out, I'll come pick you up and drag you there!"

She paused, considering it. "…Unless I find some psycho-crazy old man there who just likes to insult me in front of all my guests. But, uh. I guess it's too early to worry about something like that."

She'd have to get to her Wonder first, if not for the personal nature of it, then to make sure it wasn't some pig sty. She might not be able to control where her wonder l, but if she could help it, she wasn't going to invite people she wanted to impress to a complete dump.

Camelot smiled at that, seeing the excitement on her face. It was like he had said 'christmas' and she was six. No, that wasn't necessary: everyone loved Christmas, regardless of age.

"I've been to the moon," he said, thoughtful, "I hope you do go, and can enjoy yourself. I like the idea of visiting other planets and wonders, and learning about the past as much as one does the present, and the person they're with."

He looked baffled at her next words though.

"Well, hopefully you don't have one of those... I've never met any one at Camelot, but I suppose I just haven't looked around enough." He was hoping that they weren't standard with Wonders, though, because he got yelled at enough in his day to day.

He chuckled and nodded his head, then opted to bow instead. He would take her to Camelot whenever she wanted to go, and he would be glad to.

"Well, we should probably get going. Ah. Just let me know whenever you wish to go to Camelot, and I will be more than glad to take you. I'm always at the library, of course, so it's not hard to ah... track me down." And he had his ring, as well, though obviously she hadn't found her yet.
