Grrel was sunbathing on a large rock near the Ashen City. Blatantly flaunting the fact that she was there and inside Ordetie territory, her obvious presence was causing quite a few stares and many young Orderites to circle her location in a wide path to avoid her.
Grrel normally would not have gone so near the strange city, but she wanted to observe the two-leggers at their home nesting ground, as she thought of it. She'd have gone into the city, but didn't want to risk getting surrounded and slayed, no out here, on the main road to the large place was safer. And the view was certainly fun! Grrel loved to watch the many expressions and hear the whispered conversations. They thought she couldn't hear them, but she could. her hearing and sight were better than most Magescians and Grrel used that to her advantage now, taking in all the sights and sounds of a market day in Ashen city with all the merchants and farmers bringing their wares to the city.
She didn't know that inside the city, she was the topic of most of the gossip. No one had ever seen a Draekin come so close and so blatantly to their city.. many of these citizens would only have heard of her kind from the tales of the dragon hunters.

There was no avoiding it, that morning the talk of the young scholars was the Drakein that was right outside their doors. It hadn’t come inside the city, but everyone was whispering, shouting and over all just talking about it. It had chosen quite a day to be out and about so close to the city, with everyone entering for market day. Some people were boasting about how they’d approached it, even talked to it, but Esmeralda knew that these were probably false allusions people were making about themselves just to claim a piece of fame. She on the other hand, as a scholar who was studying dragons was going to find out the truth. She was going out there, and she was going to talk to it!
Packing her notebook, ink, and quill, Esmeralda set out to find this Drakein. I didn’t take her very long to find it; it looked like it was sunbathing on a rock. It reminded her of the one she’d met a few days ago, the same coloration, maybe it was the same one? Esme couldn’t really tell, she hadn’t exactly met a bunch of its kind, so this was going to be quite the trip!
“Hello!” Esmeralda waved to it as she approached closer a large smile on her lips. Some people were looking at her in shock, who was this girl to simply walk up to the dragon and speak to it! But she was a Dovaa after all, in a sea of many Orderite faces, to her this was about as normal as having breakfast in the morning was. When she finally reached the rock, she squinted from the sun a bit and looked up at the dragon. “Can I bother you for just a tiny bit of your time?” If she could get something written on the Drakein, she was going to be doing a first!

Grrel had seen the small Dovaa approaching for quite some time. The main race here was Orderite, so the little Dovaa stuck out like a sore thumb. Impressive horns, Grrel thought to her self a bit enviously. That was one of the things she really wanted, a set of horns that were unique..
When she saw the odd implements, the same she'd seen Kadryn carry about and make odd designs with, she knew this was a peaceful approach and there would be no need to fight. Grrel rolled onto her stomach and draped herself across the rock as she peered down her scaled snout at the tiny Dovaa.
"And a good morning to you too small Dovaa. You may indeed have some of my time. I am Grrel of the Family Clan of Srrelliz. And who might you be?" Grrel was please, this Dovaa was polite, a good sign. She spoke as if a piece of her time was a precious gift and to be treasured... when in all truth, she wanted to spill forth a ton of questions for the small girl to answer. But Grrel didn't want to do that in front of a crowd, no that would quite ruin the image she wanted.... though it was always fine to barrage people with questions in private since it would only be them that saw that side of her....

There was much blinking done by Esmeralda when Drakein turned belly up on the rock, amusement made the corners of her lips curl into a smile, but she held herself back from laughing. Esme’s pen was working as she wrote down the name and clan given to her, she’d even started on a sketched of the outstretch dragon.
“I am Esmeralda Vorporian of uhm… Clan Peisio?” Yea that was about right, did that even make sense… Esme wrote down a few of her questions and left some space between them so she could also write down the answer she was given. “ So, why do you think some people are stealing your eggs? And what do you think about this who situation?”

Grrel snorted with amusement. "Of clan Peisio? Ha! Peisio isn't a person silly, it's a dragon. And I'm positive, Dovaa though you are, that you aren't a dragon's child. We claim the name of the Drakienian who started our clan... clan Peisio.. heh..." She smirked, revealing her sharp teeth as her scaled lip curled up.
"Your full name is all you need to claim small one. As for the egg stealing.. I catch you doing it, I kill you. I catch you with a stolen egg or Keiling, I attack." She growled in anger. Oh how she hated the bond.. it stunted and forever enslaved her people.. and the bonded's would never know what was wrong with them cause they were stolen before they hatched..
"I think, of your leaders, only the Dovaa is not a liar. We were told when our leaders talked to yours, that no eggs would be stolen.. but no. Next thing you know, both the Oderite and Oblivionite leaders turn around and tell their people to enslave us for their stupid war. This whole situation stinks.. and ss far as I can tel, Orderites are no better than Oblivionites. Both will do anything to win their war. Which makes both of them pathetic." Grrel paused, during her spiel, she'd stood up and her wings had half flared. Talking about it just mad her so mad!!!! Clearing her throat, she resettled her wings and laid down again. "I will admit that not all of you are bad though, even if the majority just want to steal eggs for an easy route to more power.."

Frowning lightly, Esmeralda marked down what the Grrel had said to her. “Well, you know. As a Dovaa I speak dragon tongue, and I do have horns and scales and some of us can even turn into dragons! So I don’t think we’re so far off from dragons. Of course, nothing as close as the Drakein, but still.” Esme smiled right back at her; there was nothing to be afraid of. After all, Grrrl was not as large as the dragons and considering she was in a public place, it meant they were on good terms with the rest of the world unlike the dragons.
“What if someone stumbled upon an egg and it hatched for them as a bonded…The egg wasn’t stolen, how would you know if it was stolen or not?” If Grrel kept hat kind of mentality, it was going to get her in a lot of trouble or worst killed. Esmeralda understood that their young were being stolen; it didn’t come as a surprise since they could be used as machines of war. Granted Esme was no better, if she had to be truthful, she wanted to be bonded too but it wasn’t for fighting. However, you wouldn’t catch her telling that to Grrel!
Esmeralda completely agreed with Grrel on the whole Oblivionite and Orderite thing and she nodded. “Marcus tries to stay neutral and many if not all of us agree with him. He’s a good leader.” Esme smiled, it made her proud to know that the Dovaa were holding up their side of things. “What if, let’s say a Dovaa wanted a bond, but it wasn’t for fighting purposes. Just for studying, that kind of thing.” She already knew the answer would be no, who would let anyone take their children to be used for who knew what?

Grrel sniffed with Disdain at Esmeralda's comments. She'd come into contact with those who'd "stumbled upon" an egg.. and only one of them she believed. The silly man had thought it to be a rock of all things.....
"The child was taken and enslaved little girl. It doesn't matter that you steal it or .. 'find' an egg. You are taking a child away from its family and forever enslaving them." She got up and began to pace in a circle about the small Dovaa.
"Do you know what a bond is little girl? It is forcing an egg, a child yet unborn and with no way to speak or fend for themselves, to become enslaved to you till you die. And you will die before them, our lives are so much longer than yours. All of their magic is wrapped up in that so-called Bond, meaning they will never be as strong as those who are free, their growth stunted, their minds weaker and they will know nothing of their own kind! They won't know anything about what and how to be a Drakein. The joys and comfort as a Kieinling being with your mother, the love and happiness that being with your clan gives. No. All they will know is what the life of a slave, a pet will be." Her voice was a low and deep growl as her tail lashed angrily side to side.
"To bond, to enslave. They mean the same thing to us. But there is no way to free our captured young, the spells that once created us and twisted us from our Dragon ancestors is long lost now, as are the spells we used to escape from our first creators, the first slavers. Do you know why they made us? To study. To tame the dragons and try for peace. They failed." She turned and jumped back upon her rock.
"And you ask is what I think of those who want to bond so they can study us. I would kill that one faster than I would one who only stole an egg for power. We are people, we have minds and hearts and dreams just like you. If you want to study us, then go into the wilds and seek out a clan that is willing to let you observe them. Do not enslave a helpless child to help you in your search for knowledge. Besides, studying a bonded will only tell you what a stunted and weakened member of our race is capable of.
There is but one and only one way I would let anyone bond to study was if they lived in the clan and were studying on how to break the bond.. but I wouldn't let that one leave the clan.. not until they died or the bond was broken."

Esmeralda scratched her head. “I don’t know the Bonded I’ve seen are treated quite well. Nothing like actual war slaves I’ve seen. I don’t see why they wouldn’t be able to see their family if they wished it… At some point, everyone must spread their wings and fly from the nest as the saying goes.” Speaking about families made her feel guilty about her own, she hadn’t visited them in forever, she felt like she’d shamed her family and until she could prove her worth, she wouldn’t see them.
When Grrel called her a little girl, Esme pursed her lips and she could feel the hot tears coming but held them back. She hated being called a little girl, others always used it as an insult and she didn’t want to be referred to by that anymore. “Are you saying people are forcing unborn children to Bond? I would think it is a two way process.” There was of course, no use spending time refuting and arguing with her. How did they know people were forcing them? Who held this knowledge? The wounds of the stolen eggs were clearly scars that still bled, but Esme wanted to hope that what Grrel was telling her was not the truth.
How could you treat a baby as such? Wouldn’t they be seen as partners of some kind? Why wouldn’t you want your Drakein to know how to be themselves? Or why wouldn’t you want them to know whom their family was? All the questions were buzzing inside Esmeralda’s mind and with Grrel’s outburst and circling her came the tears. She felt like Grrel was being mean, and she was angry at all the people out thre stealing eggs, and angry about what Grrel had just said, because she thought all these things were true and it was sad. So sad. Hot angry tears poured down Esme’s cheeks as she got puffy and red faced, fist clenched and trembling like a leaf in the wind. If she let her emotions run anymore wild then she was going to burst herself and start yelling and screaming and stomp away like a little child. But she wasn’t a little child anymore; Esme didn’t want to be treated as such.
Taking a deep breath, Esmeralda wipped the tears roughly from her face with her arm and starred Grrel down. She ordered her voice steady and calm even if she wanted to spill her guts so fast Grrel wouldn’t have time to understand her words. “I think you’re wrong. If I was bonded I would do the whole opposite of what you said, I would care for the Drakein not like a slave, not like a pet but an equal. An equal that has a mind of its own, that has likes and dislikes just like me. One that gets angry, mad, sad, happy, hungry emotional. An equal that would help me when I go out and observe the dragons. I would want it to know who its family was, spend time with its family and especially know what it really means to be a Drakein. And I would hope that in return I would be gifted with a partner who can give me advice, and help me with things and grow as I grow.”
“I believe we are all slaves to the god, but I would never treat another being as such. Dragon, Drakein, Oblivionite, Orderite or Dovaa.” There, she’d said what she’d wanted to say, her own ramble to Grrel’s outburst. Esmeralda sniffed softly and wiped her face again, this time unclenching her hands and trying to breath more evenly. People were going to thing she was insane.

Grrel rolled her eyes at the little girl's comments. "Why would any clan let a bonded near them? With the poor enslaved child comes tits slaver... and someone who has stolen an egg once will do so again.... No, a clan can not let a bonded near for fear that their eggs will join the poor thing in slavery." She growled and turned to hop back on her rocky perch.
"The bond is not a two way path. Most of the magic inside the unhatched egg is taken by the thief, empowering them. The bond is forced upon an egg and there is no way for the unhatched Keinling to reject it... the spell that made us long ago is too strong to resist, a bond will happen if a two-legger has the egg for too long...." She sighed as she saw the girl's face crumple up and tears leak out. Why was she taking her frustration out on this little one? She wasn't a thief.. though her words did imply that she wanted a bonded.. as a pet? Probably... or to study which was just as bad.
"And how would you know how you'd treat it? The bond lessens our intelligence, makes us weaker and more childlike... My poor nephew is one of these bondeds.. Keindreds his own age are able to speak and act so much more adult like than he does... It is so hard for him to be taken seriously when he can barely speak two proper sentences... You do not know how you will act until you are in the situation though I will hope that you never find yourself in that position...." She sighed, she didn't blame Samril for thievery, she knew that her stupid sister was an idiot and clueless and was to blame... only she would have been so stupid to lay and egg out in the open and leave it behind.....
"Slaves to a God?" Grrel laughed, "Perhaps, but at least your children, when enslaved, can be saved.. ours can not. Only death can break the bond... Your kind may always choose to leave and go away from others that enslave you, our children cannot."

There was no talking out of this one, they were both quite set in their ways and Esmeralda doubted one of them would back down from their arguments.
“Fine, if you so choose to believe we’re all evil and we all want to steal eggs; I’m not going to dissuade you.” Esmeralda hadn’t come here to argue with the Drakein. “I didn’t come here to argue with you,” she admitted quietly. “I just wanted to find out more about the Drakein in general.” And then a brilliant idea came to the Dovaa, maybe she could still get information but make it a game in the hopes that Grrel would play with her.
Turning towards the perched Drakein, Esmeralda leaned on the rock and looked up smiling. “You must have questions about us right? Wouldn’t you want those questions answered?” Esme paused briefly to let it sink in. “You could always ask me a question and in return for an answer, I get to ask you one back?” Esmeralda quirked a brow, hoping that Grrel would join in.

Grrel threw her head back and laughed, "Evil? Ha! Only the thieves are evil little girl! And I know not all of you two leggers wish to steal eggs... but so many of you do. It is so rare to find one who wouldn't want a friend that would never leave you, or a power source that is yours alone... I do have an Orderite friend, we get along just fine." She smirked to herself as she settled back down on her rock. Kadryn was so far the only one she really liked.. though that little red head, the quiet one was rather nice too.
Her scaled eyebrow lifted a bit at the next comment of the Dovaa. Wanted to know more about Drakein? Well, good! She wanted to know about Dovaa too! Plus, if this girl learned more about Drakein, perhaps she would see us as people and not seek to enslave any of our children....
"Deal small one. Ask your first question.. "

Esmeralda didn’t think only thieves were evil, she knew plenty of people who were evil and hadn’t stolen anything. Not that she was about to share that thought with the Drakein, the more she interacted with her the more she reminded her of the people back home who were glues to their beliefs. It was a good trait, but it also meant that if they did happen to be wrong, they wouldn’t admit it. Esme had learned long ago not to argue with anyone like that, there just was no point and besides, she had better things to do!
There was no bigger smile than the one on her face once Grrel agreed to the game. “Are the Drakein going to fight with a side? “ She’d mentioned something about having an Orderite friend; did that mean that they spent more time with the Orderite than the Oblivionites? Another question to ask Grrel of course, but the name of the game as one question at a time and she needed to respect that if she wanted answers. She’d be patient, waiting was no problem for this one.

Grrel chuckled and smirked at the Dovaa in front of her, "A side? We are on our own side. Us against all the two leggers. Why would we care about who wins your stupid war? We have more important problems, like surviving and protecting our own. We'll fight whoever angers us, Dovaa, Orderite, Oblivionite." Her tail flicked about, she never really understood why they thought their war was so important... sure their Gods had started it, but hadn't they left their creatures behind to fend for themselves? Why fight a war that someone else started and left? So strange... "Now my turn... hmm..... What's the Dovaa's plane like? The so called 'celestial' plane?" What an arrogant sounding name.. celestial... as if they were somehow on par with the Celestial Dragon.....

“So your own. Check.” Well it was reassuring to know they weren’t helping anyone in the war, but it also wasn’t productive for winning it. Granted, Esmeralda stayed as far as she could from the war, she’d become a scholar so she didn’t have to be on the battlefield after all.
“Well, there’s the Celestial Fortress. That’s where everyone goes to study and it’s also where we go to worship Abronaxus. It’s a large structure with only one way in.” Esme had spent most of her time in there. “Astral city is where the ain action happens, it is said to be the most beautiful of all cities. I wouldn’t know how to describe it.” So pretty, yet Esmeralda was almost never there. “And then the coliseum, can’t tell you much about it. I stopped going as soon as my parents let me stay home alone.” She didn’t like the place.
“My turn! Where do all Drakein live?”

"Everywhere of course! There is no land, other than that silly little plane of yours that Drakeins cannot live in!" Grrel noticed approaching armed people coming from Ashen City. Deciding that lingering may involve fighting that she didn't want to do, Grrel flared her wings and got ready to leave.
"Well, it was informative talking to you small Dovaa. I hope if we meet again you have not furthered you plans to.. study Drakeins by stealing our children. Then our next meeting will be violent." Grrel gave her a big grin, one that showed all her sharp teeth before she launched herself gracefully in the air and flew off like lightning.
