As per the usual routine, Madeline was up to her ankles in muddy boots by the time she arrived out at the training fields, hunched against the bite of late-winter wind and groaning. However, beneath the customary hunter coat was another coat, and this one made her look even more out of place than usual, because this one made her look like a panda.
Pulling the hood of her black and white jacket up by the ears sewn into the hood, Madeline inhaled sharply and sneezed, burrowing her hands into the pockets of her coat. She hated the training courses, and all she wanted to do was beat something up with her club for a good long while. Maybe she could find someone to spar with - a quick look at her phone told her how many people she knew and how many would kill her if she rang them up for an a** whipping this early in the morning. And knowing Ami, the girl herself would murder her for dressing the way she did too.
Madeline sniffed again, staring into the gloom of Deus with a glare, willing someone to appear so she could accost them and make them spar with her.

Was that a PANDA?
Feng pouted taking a closer look at the black and white organism. Panda's probably didn't wear hunter coats, so he supposed Shang was right. Though it could have totally been a panda. Like a monster panda. Monster panda attack.
Pandas probably didn't sneeze that cute either.
He rubbed the red wool of his mittens - mittens were warm and comfy, shut up - together and kind of sidled towards the figure. There was a very huge chance he'd regret it, but he didn't want to pass by a sick hunter and get in trouble for not helping them or at least offering to help. Plus they could die of the swine flu or something and then he'd just feel bad for not taking them to the infirmary or something.
"Uh. Hello?"

If only Madeline had been a Monster Panda, that would have been ten times cooler. As it was, she was just a panda-imposter, and a bad one at that. There wasn't even any bamboo around to chew. Baw. Rubbing her hands together in front of her face, Madeline groaned and shook her whole body out. Why was it so cold in the mornings?!
She wanted summer to come already.
But then again, Summer at Deus was basically lukewarm fog with the usual dash of suffering.
Turning her head at the sound of another voice, Madeline swung around and came nose to nose with Feng.
"Oh!" She tilted her from side to side at the other, giving him a cursory once over. "Ohh. Yes, hello." She grinned at him, all of her bad thoughts dissolving in a haze of pleasant happiness.
"Good, you'll do. Come on!" She wrapped a hand around his wrist and gave it a gentle tug, pointing towards the training grounds all around them. "Spar with me, huh?"
The panda hood fell further over her hair, making her look like a very fluffy, rumpled panda. Cute but completely useless in every other way.

Whoa close, closecloseclose oh god was she going to kiss him HE WAS GOING TO GET KISSED BY A PANDA JESUS HE WASN'T READY.
He leaned way back, eye going a bit crossed as he tried to focus on the really close face in front of him. "I'll do?" He repeated. "Do for what? I don't even know you. You could be a serial killer. Are you a serial kill-ouf!" He stumbled as the small woman tugged him toward the training grounds.
She's going to kill me. I'm going to be murdered by an adorable panda girl.
"If we spar, you won't kill me right?"

Oh, Feng. You haven't earned Panda Kisses.
Yet.
Madeline grinned at her poor companion, positively accosting him whether he wanted to be accosted or not. Her hoodie did nothing to help the matter either, the sleeves so large that they engulfed her hands. She looked like a puffy panda. There was even a tail sewn on too.
"Maybe I am," She replied ominously, grinning from ear to ear. "A cute panda serial killer. And you're my first."
As she dragged him off to the training fields to begin sparring, she turned her eyes back to him and winked.
"I don't make those kind of promises." She teased mercilessly. "But I'm a panda today. Do I look like I could kill anything?"
Feng, for your own safety, it might be smarter not to answer that.

Feng whined low in his throat, resisting the urge to dig his heels in the dirt. "I think you're cute enough to be evil," he hissed.
Wait.
"Not that I think you're cute. That would be weird, I just met you. And I'm not like that. I'm not a pervert or anything, like, thinking girls are cute when I don't know them or something. Not me," he coughed, refusing to look at her face.
Smooth.

"You think I'm cute?" Madeline turned to Feng with a wicked grin, leaning in close to his face, nose and nose. "Aw, thank you! And you never know. I could be positively wicked."
But then he retracted his statement and Madeline pouted, the hoodie sliding over her hair, ears waving in the light breeze. "Oh my god, you could just say, you're cute without wanting, to, ya know, throw off your clothes and jump in bed together." She grinned, suddenly summoning Arsen to her hands.
"Anyways, I think you're cute too." She winked at him, hefting the club above her head as though stretching towards the sky. "Cute enough to let me knock you around a bit, at least! No promises, remember?"
But instead of doing anything positively mean, she simply brought the club down and knocked it gently on the top of Feng's head.
"Come on, lets go." She grinned at him. "Or are you afraid of hitting a panda?"

"H-holy God," Feng stuttered, face going as red as his sash. Close. Noses touching. So close. Clothes off. Bed. That was just bad and wrong and she shouldn't just say stuff like that because it wasn't like he actually wanted to do that - he was a gentleman!
He squeezed his eyes shut as she called him cute, feeling positively ready to explode into a confetti of embarrassment and shyness.
Which is probably why he didn't see the hit coming. He startled as the club hit him gently on the head, summoning Shang out of habit. It was all a huge accident, really, as the head of the meteor hammer swung out and hit her.
He blinked, and then shrugged sheepishly. "I guess I can hit pandas?"

Madeline blinked at Feng, her lips wobbling as though trying to hold in a laugh. Giggling escaped her throat, and she smothered one hand over her mouth in an attempt to stifle it. "You sound so surprised!" She said, waving one hand at Feng like she was trying to make him stop being so cute with her hands.
"God, why haven't I met you sooner, you're adorable." She whistled, swinging the club in her hand and rubbing the spot where the meteor hammer had hit. "Nice weapon by the way. It fits you."
Winking at Feng, Madeline grabbed Arsen with both hands, trying to stifle her laughter in favor of focus. "Nice job. Please be gentle with me, senpai."

Foul. Red Flag. Excessive flailing.
Maybe. But what if she really thought he was? What if she really did like him, and he just went off and tried to beat her up? That was wrong, probably. And he wouldn't make friends like that. Or gi-... girl-...girlfr-... Nope. He couldn't even think it. 2spooky.
Or what if it was all innuendo.
Nope. Best to think of it as literal. Down the other path lie madness. And nose bleeds.
"I uh. I could be gentle?" He said uncertainly. It was difficult to be anything other than brutal with a weapon as big as Shang, but he could try, at least. He swung the weapon, barely hitting her. "Like that?"

Hold up. Timeout.
Feng was overloading on adorable, and Madeline nearly doubled over in giggles as soon as he told her he could in fact be gentle. "I - its okay!" She said, stepping forward and giving his head a pat with her own hand, ruffling his hair. "You're so adorable - have at it, babe. Don't be afraid of getting rough on my account! I - It was a joke, I swear to god."
Feng was going to be the death of her.
In fact, cute things in general were going to be the death of her. She almost felt bad sparring with him, he seemed to take everything she was saying literally, and to anyone that knew Madeline in the slightest knew that about 90% of what she said was definitely not to be taken literally in any way, shape, or form.
Because that - that would lead to disaster.
Trying to regain her focus, Madeline jumped back and swung her club, catching Feng's unguarded legs with a sweeping blow in an attempt to knock him off balance. "The panda strikes back!" She howled triumphantly.
Feng, you poor s**t. What did you get yourself into.

Feng didn't get himself into anything. This was all a seriously unfortunate case of wrong place wrong time. That was probably a pretty good metaphor for his entire life, really.
He frowned at her, unsure whether he should be believing anything she said anymore. Was she joking? Was she serious? Did she want him to actually spar with her or did she want him to be gentle?

He tried to be a little more sure of his next swing, but her attack hit him just right and he went flailing towards the ground. He landed hard on his butt and winced. Oh god that hurt ow. And he looked like an idiot who couldn't even keep his feet under him now.
"I'm not sure this was a good idea," he whined, flipping himself back onto his feet.
