It was hard to miss the trails of red and gold that had begun to appear on the paths in and around Amityville. The town, the horseman reserve, all had the same thing cropping up. Small red and gold envelopes, sealed with a simple insignia. The design was distinctly Chinese, a snake of gold on one side, a character for luck on the other. You can’t tell, but they feel like they have something inside of them. Before you get the chance to open it however…
Pain in the back of your head. A grey haired old conquest horseman in somewhat frumpy and rather musty smelling robes. The colors have long since faded from his no doubt once extravagant robes, leaving him looking rather drab and sad looking. “What you doing?” He snaps at you two fingers held up. He slaps them and his knuckles to the back of your head as you attempt to answer him. “You know what they do? No? This what wrong with foals. Too eager to play with magic. Magic must defeat magic.” As you look closer to the horseman you realize he is scowling at you in a eerily familiar way.
“You see these foal? They magic. Magic from the moon’s revival.” Picking up an unopened red envelope he waves it extremely close to your face. “I look for one who can use the magic. Maybe you?” Another two finger slap to the back of the head. “You be more careful next time. If you find a coin come find me. I see if you have the magic needed. Can’t have it falling into anypony’s hooves.”
Are you a Halloweener?
Yes:
No:
You don’t have time to ask him much of anything as he briskly walks away, bright red envelopes falling from his drab robes. You do however, spot an older scholar of conquest standing nearby, watching the elder horseman with a mix of exasperation and concern.
Ask him who that was:
Ask what that horseman is doing:
Ask about the red envelopes:
After a while the scholar groans, noticing how Uncle is now attempting to hit a priestess and talk to her about fortune telling. It seems that is all the info you’ll be getting. As you pick up an envelope a coin falls out. ‘Uncle’ is still nearby, arguing in what you think is mandarin with the other scholar.
Take the coin to Uncle:
Walk Away:

Yes:
He eyes you again before hold up his fingers.
Do you flinch?
Yes:
No:
Do you flinch?
Yes:
He hits the back of your head twice. “Two for flinching!”
No:
He hits you once. “Next time do not try to trick Uncle and pretend to be a pony!”
No:
He tilts his head and stares at you.
Are you a conquest horseman?
Yes:
No:
I’m Invictus:
Are you a conquest horseman?
Yes:
He hits you once. “Bow more. No respect your elders? Shame on you.”
No:
He does not hit you, instead he nods and says “You try the magic. Maybe it time to pass to another clan.”
I’m Invictus:
He scowls. “You need more training. Can’t shoot like ancestors? Disappointment, Uncle has.” He does not hit you but you get the sense if he did, it would be just because he really is completely insane in a not Insanity infected way.
Do you murder Uncle?
Yes:
No:
Do you murder Uncle?
Yes:
He revives the next day, perfectly unharmed, talking about cabbages.
No:
He walks away like nothing happened.
You don’t have time to ask him much of anything as he briskly walks away, bright red envelopes falling from his drab robes. You do however, spot an older scholar of conquest standing nearby, watching the elder horseman with a mix of exasperation and concern.
Ask him who that was:
”Uncle. He was ah… one of the elder scholars who specialized in lunar based FEAR for the clan. Sadly he was a bit… eccentric and so we sent him to a distant lair.” The crazy horseman in the distance is busy setting red envelopes into the trees. “A very VERY distant lair. We don’t talk about Uncle much.”
Uncle?
Ask if he’s ‘Insane’
Uncle?
”I don’t know. He’d been around for ages. It’s the only name we knew him by. The only one he ever gave us anyway.”
Ask if he’s ‘Insane’
”What? Er.. yes but not in that way. Just with age I think.”
Ask what that horseman is doing:
”I’m trying to figure that out myself. We knew he was keeping record of something but it was privy only to the Emperor himself.” He gives you a look as if to say ‘why am I even talking to you?’
Ask what it might be:
Ask what it might be:
”If I knew that, I wouldn’t be here would I?”
Ask about the red envelopes:
”Oh those things?” He holds up one, opening it, a few silver seeds falling out. “Harmless for the most part. Filled with money. A small tradition from around this time of year.”
Most part:
Do they all have money?
Most part:
”You cannot expect all things to be free of a risk.”
RISK?
RISK?
He stares at you blankly, not impressed with your ability to gasp that yes something might happen with some of them and no, he’d not going to tell you.
Do they all have money?
”No, sometimes they have fortunes, sweets. Traditionally money but well, where Uncle is getting it I’m not sure. He does seem to want any gold coins you find however.”
What are the gold coins?
What are the gold coins?
”I have no idea. Uncle just wants them. Maybe he’ll give you something for them?”
The horseman gives an actual whinny of approval, taking the coin with a small bow. “Yes. This is the magic. You have it yes. Bring Uncle more and maybe I pay you.” The other scholar and him resume bickering like you were never even there.
My character understands mandarin:
My character understands mandarin:
They are arguing about what Uncle is doing, while Uncle is yelling about how foals like him don’t eat enough cabbages these days and end up all lanky. Very informative.
Walk Away:
Uncle spots the gold coin in hand and very quickly, he is standing in front of you, yanking the coin from you hand. “Yes, Uncle sees. He does see, you have magic, but is it enough?” He eyes you up and down. “You bring more to Uncle, I pay. Then we see if your magic can defeat magic.” With that, he leaves you, running away… as the other scholar chases after, still yelling in mandarin.

My character understands mandarin:
He’s cursing Uncle and telling him to stop running. The curses are rather colorful to say the least.

A Wild Uncle Has Appeared!
The slightly insane horseman from a remote lair has returned, and it seems he’s brought with him a clan tradition from around this time of the year. While Conquest certainly has it’s festivities and ceremonies for the lunar new year, Uncle is… taking things a bit outside of the clans as well. From now until MARCH 7TH Students and Horsemen have the chance to try and win gold coins to exchange for special minipet totems!
How it works
For the time of this mini event/status effect RPs that are started and completed using the Red Envelopes will have the chance to get a minipet totem with a special status effect. Rolling 1d4 to activate the red envelope, characters will be subjected to a possible status effect.
Roll results:
1- You feel SUPER LUCKY. In fact you feel like you can do ANYTHING. Logic doesn’t matter, you’ve got LUCK on your side! You also found one gold coin WOHOO!
2- You feel like you are a snake. In fact you ARE a snake for the next hour!
3- Just as you think you’re going to get something- Boo :C! Someone opened this envelope already! You feel really unlucky. Best not try anything too dangerous like opening pickle jars and the like.
4- It seems that you find an odd gold coin. Maybe that crazy horseman knows what to do with it. You also have a strong desire to hiss all your 's's.
For every COMPLETED RP that uses the Red Envelope Status effect you earn +1 token to exchange. Each coin you find grants a free +1 token to exchange!
